MiniPC locked out and need to factory reset

Good evening,

So I was trying to edit some files in Safe Mode and accidentally crashed Windows and have effectively locked myself out of windows (attached photo). I cannot start windows recovery (attached photo) and the only thing I seem to have access to is the BIOS and the physical PC. My question is how do I factory reset my mini PC? Is there a way to do that through BIOS or the physical PC buttons/hardware? Or am I doomed? I read that opening the PC to play with the internal hardware may work but I want to avoid that if possible.

Would love any advice!

  • Looking for Mini pc for digital art(CSP)/u/holdmybacons
Hi, i'm new to this subreddit but had no luck looking for the info i needed. I'm looking for a cheap mini-pc for basic digital art(manga). Currently using mailny Clip Studio Pro/EX but never use the 3d models or heavy assets. From what I know CSP is a more cpu heavy program than gpu(could be wrong). I use the pages option on EX when i work on a comic, sometimes 20~60 pages of b5@600dpi for doujin works. I dont need gaming, but do need dual hdmi to plug in my drawing tablet, preferrably dual 4k.

Hi, i'm new to this subreddit but had no luck looking for the info i needed.

I dont need gaming, but do need dual hdmi to plug in my drawing tablet, preferrably dual 4k. Intel or AMD is both fine.

16gb ram, 500gb ssd is good enough.

My current setup is from 2018 with intel i5/16gb ram/gtx750ti exceeds all my needs no problem but i'm looking to upgrade while downsizing.

I'm based in US(ca) would there be a sub $200 system to run that smoothly? If that's not possible for $300?

As a project manager I mostly WFH but can be posted to job sites during the week and have been considering a minipc that would allow me to upgrade performance and semi-retire my laptop except when needed for truly mobile work. My current machine is an HP Elitebook X360 1030 G2 with i7-7600U CPU @ 2.80GHz and 16GB RAM connected to dual screens via a Dell hub. When I'm in the site office I generally only run 1 external monitor and run off hotspot unless there happens to be a LAN available.

My use mostly consists of office applications multitasking in chrome/firefox, pdf, excel. Occassionally I will need to view CAD files using Navisworks and trueview but it isn't frequent. I use OneDrive for most daily files and run a Synology NAS locally for photo/media/document archiving and have TB's of photos that I struggle to manage at times due to it being slow to access, preview or view. Otherwise I can't really complain about my current machine/set up.

I have been using this laptop for 5 years and don't tend to update regularly so when I do I prefer to futureproof and would rather spend a bit more now then update later.

In case it matters - the site offices can get dusty at times.

I had come across the HX99G for $1300 on Amazon with 64Tb DDR5 and 1TB SSD which I thought was a suitable form factor and performance was well and truly above my current machine. It doesn't make sense for me to upgrade to a laptop that is >3 x that cost when my mobile work is generally very light duty (checking drawings in client office/car or sending emails).

I have also been watching the HX200G/Atomman release to see what cost was. I don't game at all but figured for the cost - having a dedicated graphics card was better to "have and not need rather than need and not have".

Is there a compromise/weakness with these that I'm missing?

Appreciate any advice as to what specs I should be prioritising and any suitable products that meet my needs, thanks.

I want a mini pc that I can just use for the next several years. I’ve narrowed it down, thus far, to an Asus ExpertCenter, a Trigkey S6 Pro, or a Minisforum UM790 Pro.

Purely in terms of reliability, not capability, what would you recommend?

Is it worth buying a barebones MINISFORUM Ryzen 9 8945 UM790?

I have a Sk Hynix 2Tb SSD that I used in a Playstation 5. All I need is some laptop ram and windows 11 right? I think I can get Windows 11 from whokeys some how. I'm not sure how to load that up though. Is there a handy guide? I'm just trying to save money.

I bought this MiniPC a few months ago to run as a media server. I'm currently using fedora, and I am having some thermal issues. I noticed that a few minutes into a transcode, I would have severe buffering issues to the point of being unwatchable (HW transcode enabled, only using about ~25% CPU). I suspected thermal throttling and sure enough temps are quickly reaching 95C and above. I've seen some posts complaining about fan noise, but I don't hear anything at all. Even with the fan control mode as "always on" in BIOS, I still don't hear anything and the system boots with CPU temps at 95C, then slowly falls to idle at about 70C.

Is anyone running fedora with this MiniPC? As I understand it is pretty popular one.. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or an OS issue.

These are the game requirements - https://www.iracing.com/membership/system-requirements/ I live in Europe and ideally don't want to spend over 400 Euros. Is this a reasonable budget? Where do you think prices will go the next couple months? Upcoming sales?

Hey everyone,

I'm very interested in get one of these products in the next couple months. A few examples include the:

  • SER8 ($900 CAN Their Website)
  • Minisforum HX99G Barebones($850 CAN Their Website)
  • Minisforum 780/790 ($850 CAN)
  • GmkTec NucBox K6 Barebones ($500 CAN on their website)

I'm looking for minimum 780m performance, and currently not really any sales are going on unless we're talking about their own website. Open to alternatives.

On Canadian Amazon, some of these aren't even an option.

Your input is appreciated!

I have to say THANKS for the kind members on this site for their recommendations and suggestions on how to install - being a complete noob, I am semi-proud to be able to do the upgrades myself!

My questions and I am seeking opinions too...

Q1 I am intending to use the second 1 TB drive for any/all files and documents in daily use- the thought being when it comes time to replace the PC it would ease tremendously the transfer of docs/files, as well as backing up just ONE drive - also perhaps the SSD could just be extracted and placed into the future (hopefully 5 years down the road) new machine with a voila moment being here's all your 'stuff', no need to copy it over. Does that sound like a plausible practice?

Q2 The 8GB RAM 3200Mhz DDR4 I replaced - since I bought TWO 16 GB RAM cards as part of the 32 GB RAM upgrade, because I was advised to buy as a set to avoid compatibility issues - I have a new 8 GB RAM stick just lying around (I carefully put it back in the protective packaging from the 32 GB RAM). Should I try to sell it? Or, again, when the time comes, re-install the 8GB back , and keep the 32 GB modules for my next machine?

Any thoughts?

  • Advice on desktop for Minecraft server/u/Excellent-Chip1210
Currently running a 24/7 modded Minecraft server on my personal computer. Everything is working fine so far but I feel like I’m gonna end up paying more if i run it on my beefy gaming rig. I have less than 15 mods and only have 3 players exactly. I just want a reliable, low wattage, good desktop to not have any lag and still run smoothly with over 150 mods one day. My budget is 150. If you need to go up a little higher put it in the chat. Thank you! submitted by /u/Excellent-Chip1210

Obviously I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing here there's nothing I can find online about how to do this after I saw that first thing about being able to use a SATA or NVMe, and I don't really know what I'm doing. I can obviously call technical support and if this doesn't work I'm gonna try that I just thought I would ask you guys first because I thought someone probably knows.

(Btw for anyone wondering about the whole fiasco with s1 minis having malware pre-installed during shipping, I've done a bunch of virus scans when I got it up to now nothing ever came up and the company has since said they fixed the issue.)

So is there maybe something I have to do to make the computer recognize the new SSD, do I have the wrong type of SSD, what exactly am I doing wrong here that the computer doesn't seem to see the new secondary SSD when I put it in? For specs I have the ace magic s1 mini n97 processor 512gb storage 16gb ram and the secondary SSD slot says NGFF, and the original storage SSD said something with NGFF with a / and then a couple other letters, I don't remember and I don't really have time right now to take it out, but if need be I can pretty easily.

Even if someone could just send me a link to the ace magic s1 mini manual it would probably be infinitely helpful, as I bought mine off Amazon and it didn't come with one. Anything helps thanks guys!

TLDR; how do I upgrade storage with secondary SSD for ace magic s1 mini n97 processor 512gb storage 16gb ram secondary SSD I'm trying to install is M.2 NVMe not sure if that's the right kind and I'm not sure what I'm doing is there a step I'm missing because it doesn't show up in storage when I put secondary SSD in?

Would a Galaxy S10 be an upgrade or downgrade to my Pixel 7?

I want to emulate on my TV with USB-HDMI but Pixel 7 doesn't have that unfortunately. Galaxy does so I was thinking about switching. Pixel 7 has no problem running PS2@1440p-4K. I want something that's atleast equal or better performance wise. So would a S10 be a waste of money or should I go for something else in a similar price range?

I’m using this PC to run a niche software at my job. I’m a CNC machinist, and am using it to run a CAM software. Pretty simple stuff. Nothing crazy! PC should be here in 2 days.
