Nvidia could be about to release a new slightly slower version of the RTX 4070, according to new rumors. A new Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 variant could use slightly slower GDDR6 memory instead of the usual GDDR6X, which could result in a lower price for the new versions.

The rumor of a new variant of one of the best graphics cards you can buy will be sweet music to the ears of those who have been tempted by the RTX 4070 but have found its $550 price still too high. There's no guarantee Nvidia will drop the price of a slightly slower version, but we'd be surprised if a small saving didn't accompany the new card, if it does turn out to be real.

LG has announced that it's started mass production of its latest new Tandem LG OLED monitor panels, which bring a big increase in brightness, as well as a longer lifespan when compared to existing OLED technologies. The new type of OLED also reduces power consumption by 40%, making it incredibly useful for laptops and other mobile devices.

It's this focus on mobile devices that is actually the big caveat to this LG OLED news when it comes to the best gaming monitors in the world. The MSI Claw release date is upon us, with the Intel-powered Steam Deck rival finally available to buy in the US. The latest gaming handheld that's looking to directly take on the likes of the Asus ROG Ally starts at $699 with prices rising to $799 for the top-spec version.

There's a new MSI motherboard BIOS available that lets users turn off current excursion protection (CEP) for non-K Intel CPUs. What does that mean? Well, it means that anyone that's using a non-K Intel CPU can now save power and reduce the heat of their system without performance taking a nosedive.

While this update doesn't currently affect any of the chips on our best gaming CPU guide, users of the likes of the Intel Core i5 14600 - the non-overclockable version of the Intel Core i5 14600K - have faced a problem if they found their system was running hotter or using more power than they would like.

With K-series chips, the user could just turn down the AC load line voltage on the chip and its power consumption and heat would correspondingly turn down, with performance only slightly being reduced, so long as CEP was disabled. However, for non-K chips, there has never been the ability to turn off CEP, and trying to just turn down the voltage with CEP enabled could see performance tank. It's this issue that the CEP update addresses.

The latest Nvidia earnings report is out and it shows the company is continuing to become less of a graphics card maker. and more of a maker of chips for data centers, at least when it comes to overall revenue. Revenue from gaming now makes up just one sixth (12%) of the company's total earnings, down from 28% the previous year.

Like it or not, AI and AI-accelerating processors are here to stay, and Microsoft has embraced that fact by recently adding a new section to Task Manager that allows you to monitor AI chip usage, just as you can for CPU and GPU load. Up until now, though, this only supported Intel's NPUs, but AMD has just announced it's been working with Microsoft to include AMD AI monitoring in an upcoming Windows update.
