Destiny 2: The Final Shape is full of lengthy quests outside of the campaign. Despite the amount of time and effort required to complete them, the rewards can be pretty great. Such is the case with the Destined Heroes mission and its reward, the Ergo Sum Exotic sword. Here's how to get the quest and complete each step.

Every quest in Destined Heroes - Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Check the Radio

After completing the campaign, you'll find yourself back in the Lost City. Interact with the radio next to Ghost to begin the Destined Heroes mission.

Queens, Part I

After listening to the radio, a new banner appears in the Lost City. Use it to start Queens, Part I. The Lucent Hive is on the move and it appears Savathun is taking advantage of our distraction with the Witness.

This mission's mechanic is to defeat the Hive Knight and take their sword, using it to reflect attacks at the various runes scattered about. Each rune will be colored with the element that destroys it, e.g., orange for Solar, purple for Void, and blue for Arc.

It can be a hectic mission as you'll be contending with numerous enemies and trying to line up shots while being unable to fight back. Targeting is done entirely with the reticle, so you only need to worry about your angles in terms of blocking and reflecting.

You'll eventually reach a point in the mission where the Hive Runes are protected. This took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out, but the sword can also shoot projectiles. Use this attack to destroy the green orbs above each rune, thus exposing it.

The final section of the mission pits you against Savathun herself. Despite Immaru being on lockdown in the Tower, Savathun is more than willing to trade blows. She'll be immune to damage at the beginning of the fight. Collect the elemental orbs from the Hive statues and throw them at the corresponding runes to make her vulnerable.

Meet Micah-10

After dealing with Savathun, you'll be back in the Lost City where it's time to meet a new quest-giver, Micah-10. I love Micah-10, but her series of quests are rough due to them being largely the same. However, that's a problem for another day.

Speak with Cayde-6

Head back to Cayde-6, hiding behind the containers like the cool kid in an 80s high school drama, and obtain the Wild Card mission. Unlike Micah-10's missions, Wild Card is essential to the story and getting the Still Hunt Exotic sniper rifle.

Speak with Ghost

Stroll over to Ghost to obtain the Lost in the Light and Found in the Dark missions. These story missions cover the personal journeys of House Light's Kell, Mithrax, and Commander Zavala. Both are required to progress Destined Heroes and also award six fragments of the Prismatic subclass.

Complete 'Lost in the Light' and 'Found in the Dark'

Queens, Part II

Queens, Part II continues the spat between Mara Sov and Savathun. Savathun's "lesson" is becoming more apparent. By eliminating Taken, you can acquire their energy and sit on the edge of the Ascendant Plane. Once there, you'll need to collect Light from the three fonts spread around the room.

Eventually, Luzaku, the latest badass lady in a long line of badass Destiny 2 ladies, will show up to help you fight off two Tormentors. These Dread are tough enough on their own, but two in a small room like this is rough. I highly recommend running Strand for this fight as Tormentors can be suspended, essentially shutting them down.

Speak with Ghost

Back in the Lost City, speak with Ghost to obtain the Dyadic Prism. This item will open up the next, and final, quest in this chain.

Claim your reward, the Ergo Sum Exotic sword

Open your map and travel to the Sacrarium. In the room of Ghosts will be the sword to start the quest. You'll be teleported to the room where you first faced off against the Witness. Ghosts now orbit this room filled with light. Speak with the Dissident in the center to receive the Exotic sword, Ergo Sum.

Destiny 2 has finally wrapped up its 10-year saga of the Light and Dark. The Witness is dead, children of various species play with War Beast pups in the streets of the Last City, and Bungie is unshackled from a larger narrative. Today, the developer celebrated the occasion with a teaser of what's to come.

The Witness may be dead, but Destiny 2 lives on

Episode I: Echoes is the first stop in a post-Witness Destiny 2. Episodes are designed to be self-contained storylines and are told in three parts. Echoes deals with these new paracausal combinations of Light and Dark that have spread across the Sol system, specifically the one that's landed on Nessus.

The Nessus Echo has embedded itself deep within the planet and is drastically changing both the land and its inhabitants. For an early preview, players can head to Nessus now to experience the earthquakes. Otherwise, once the Episode starts on June 11, players will be able to work with Failsafe and fight back the Vex in the new Breach Executable activity. This three-person activity is an "arena-offensive" where Guardians must cap off radiolaria geysers while the Vex advance.

As players progress further into the core of Nessus, they'll encounter a new enemy who is pulling the strings. Beyond this tease and what can be gleaned from items in the game, not much is known. Being a Vex-centric Episode, I'd expect plenty of input from Osiris and Saint-XIV.

A teaser image from the Destiny 2 Future stream, showing a person with a bio-techy look and cracking purple skin
Screenshot via Destiny 2 YouTube

Episode II: Revenant focuses on the Eliksni and Fallen. It's promised to have more dark fantasy themes and if the in-development footage is to be believed, the design team has killed it. Guardians will become "Slayer Barons," an elite rank of monster hunters in Eliksni culture. The footage shows Eliksni fighting Hive Worms, so perhaps we'll see another fight in the vein of Xol, Will of the Thousands.

In the interview snippets, the term "vampire hunter" is thrown around several times with concept art for weapons and armor sets channeling that energy. Before you get too lost in fashion-crafting, Eido is donning a new hat as Potions Master. Players will be able to craft potions that boost the Seasonal Artifact directly or help target loot for farming.

We might finally see a conclusion to the story of the Scorn as Fikrul is back and has obtained an Echo. The Scorn leader has set up shop in an Awoken keep called Fikrul's Vampire Keep. It might be worth dusting off your Dungeons & Dragons armor for the Destiny 2 version of Ravenloft.

Screenshot via Destiny 2 YouTube

Episode III: Heresy brings our focus back to the Hive, specifically its pantheon of Savathun, Xivu Arath, and Oryx. New Eldritch forces are at play, which ultimately pulls us back to the Dreadnaught from The Taken King. In case you're not as excited as I am, read that last sentence again.

The word "Eldritch" immediately conjures images of cosmic horror, and the Dreadnaught's return is the perfect setting. The ship and weapons are literally being peeled away to reveal skeletal forms underneath. To mirror this concept of two appearances, Bungie will be rolling out two armor sets: Eris Morn's contingent and the Hive Ship navigator. Both sets look absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to live out my Hive fantasy with them.

Screenshot via Destiny 2 YouTube

Year 11, Codename: Frontiers is what comes after the Episodes in 2025. Aside from the name, nothing was given. I'm hoping we get something along the lines of retaking Torobatl or finally finding out who or what the Nine are. Hell, I'd even take an Oregon Trail story where we help our allied forces branch out, now that the threat of the Darkness is gone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PYzMqhu3Fs

Destiny has been a roller coaster of a ride, but The Final Shape gave me the closure I needed. Now I'm ready to move on and discover new stories that aren't tied to the fate of the universe, especially if they're the right amounts of spooky.

Mountain Dew and gamers are one of those combinations that makes too much sense. It's like peanut butter and jelly, or peanut butter and chocolate. This citrus-flavored concoction was incrementally developed by several individuals before PepsiCo acquired the rights.

The taste, and combination of high-fructose corn syrup and caffeine, made it a hit with gamers who used it to fuel extended gaming sessions. PepsiCo, recognizing this, has made sure to promote the radioactive green drink with several games over the years.

Mountain Dew Game Fuel promotions

https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/1cei99j/til_i_used_to_own_an_extremely_rare_limited/

2004 - The Mountain Dew Xbox

20 years ago, Microsoft and Mountain Dew came together in an unholy union to create the Limited Edition Mountain Dew Xbox. During the promotion, folks would need to accrue 550 points through Mountain Dew to unlock the option of purchasing the console for $100. While the total number of consoles produced is unknown, there's an active subreddit trying to track down each one.

2005 - Every10Minutes

Continuing its partnership with Microsoft, Mountain Dew launched the Every10Minutes promotion. Participants would earn points by purchasing PepsiCo products which would then be tied to an account on the official site. Then, every 10 minutes (hence the name), they could use those points to bid on the then-unreleased Xbox 360.

2006 - G4

Leaning more into the Mountain Dew Game Fuel branding, PepsiCo teamed up with DirecTV and G4 for a Championship Gaming Invitational. Additionally, participants in the event could win Mountain Dew's "Wall of Cash" which contained "about a million dollars."

2007 - Game Fuel is born

Mountain Dew and gamers hit it off big with the Halo 3 collaboration in 2007. This was the first incarnation of Game Fuel and would become the staple flavor moving forward. Bungie would work with several other companies to promote the title, including 7-Eleven, Burger King, and NASCAR.

2009 - Horde or Alliance?

Mountain Dew tapped another massively popular title in 2009, World of Warcraft. From what I remember and what I can dig up, there wasn't anything specific being promoted as Wrath of the Lich King was released in 2008 and Cataclysm wouldn't hit until 2010. Either way, I loved Alliance Blue and definitely remember having a 12-pack in the fridge while bopping around Northrend.

  • World of Warcraft - Horde Red (Citrus Cherry)

  • World of Warcraft - Alliance Blue (Wild Fruit)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRwNr9gp1jo

2011 - Somehow, the Dallas Cowboys get involved

While Halo 3 and World of Warcraft were respectable choices for promotions, 2011 put the feather in Mountain Dew's cap. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its retinue seemed the perfect market for the sugary drink. In an effort to entice them further, the two companies would reward players with Double XP in-game by redeeming codes. Thanks to Mountain Dew, you could watch your Prestige Level and blood sugar levels rise to unfathomable heights.

To sweeten the deal, Mountain Dew and Activision teamed up with the Dallas Cowboys to fly the winners of their Mega Fan Experience contest down to the stadium where they played the shooter on a 160'x72' screen from the 50-yard line. In a hallmark of the time, "As an added bonus, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were practicing during most of the gaming session."

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Citrus Cherry

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Tropical

2012 - Halo again, friend of a friend

With Bungie having negotiated the Halo franchise for its freedom from Microsoft, the latter partnered with Mountain Dew once again for 343 Industries' first main series entry, Halo 4. This saw the return of the classic citrus cherry drink in addition to an iOS title, Halo 4: King of the Hill.

Much like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Halo 4 players could enjoy Double XP by redeeming codes from various Mountain Dew products. In an interesting interview with the then-Marketing Manager for Mountain Dew, Forbes was able to get some insight on the promotion.

  • Halo 4 - Citrus Cherry

2013 - Fewer minutes

2013 had the soft drink partnering with Microsoft's gaming platform directly once again to promote the release of the Xbox One. Much like 2005's Every10Minutes, participants could bid points collected from Mountain Dew purchases in the Every2Minutes auctions. The staple citrus cherry flavor was joined by a new flavor, electrifying berry, to promote the new console and four titles.

  • Dead Rising 3 - Citrus Cherry
  • Forza Motorsport 5 - Citrus Cherry
  • Kinect Sports Rivals - Electrifying Berry
  • Ryse: Son of Rome - Electrifying Berry

2014 - Dew and Doritos

Having weathered the storm for years, citrus cherry became a permanent flavor in 2014. With the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, its packaging was updated for the promotion and a companion flavor, lemonade, was released. Additionally, players could collect points from Mountain Dew and Doritos purchases to unlock in-game items via the "Fuel Up for Battle" campaign.

  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Citrus Cherry
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Lemonade

2015 - Zombies

Mountain Dew stayed on the Call of Duty train for the release of Black Ops III. Rather than earn in-game gear like the previous year, participants could unlock Double XP for the Zombies mode through the "Fuel Up for Battle" campaign. The lemonade flavor failed to reappear in favor of berry lime.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Citrus Cherry
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Berry Lime

2016 - Head to B-Dubs

While Titanfall 2 might be more fondly remembered for its surprisingly gripping campaign (I love you, BT-7274), it was also a Mountain Dew partner. Citrus cherry was joined by mango heat for the promotion. Players could earn codes for nose art for their Titans in addition to Coliseum Tickets (the currency for the 1v1 Pilot-only duels) by purchasing Mountain Dew or hitting up the nearest Buffalo Wild Wings.

2017 - Gone in 60 Seconds

Every60Seconds, the third iteration of Mountain Dew's bidding system, returned with participants bidding points for a chance at an Xbox One X every 60 seconds. The tie-in titles for the promotion, Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Forza Motorsport 7, didn't feature any in-game rewards.

  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Arctic Burst
  • Forza Motorsport 7 - Tropical Smash

2023 - Diablo gets involved

Mountain Dew came back to its longtime partner Microsoft in 2023 for the promotion of Halo Infinite and the recently acquired Blizzard Activision Diablo IV. In the now familiar setup, participants purchased products for codes to redeem for points for in-game cosmetics for Halo Infinite. As for Diablo IV, the in-game cosmetics were branded as the Amethyst Weapon Cosmetics.

  • Halo Infinite - Citrus Cherry
  • Diablo IV - Mystic Punch

2024 - Mountain Zu

In 2024, Square Enix dug too deep in the mines of cross-promotion and invoked Mountain Dew for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail. Participants can purchase Mountain Dew and redeem the codes for points and spend them on things like licensed Puma apparel and in-game mounts.

  • Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

Green Label Gaming

In 2007, Mountain Dew created Green Label Gaming. The organization sponsored both players and developers in addition to covering games on its site.

The soft drink giant would go on to produce a 30-minute television special in 2008 for Spike TV known as "The Next Great Gaming Gods." In it, Geoff Keighley traveled the United States and Japan to meet with various game designers. Mountain Dew then sponsored a limited number of free downloads of the featured designers' titles.

In 2009, Green Label Gaming helped sponsor two gaming events, IGF (Independent Games Festival) and GDC (Game Developers Conference).

In what appears to be the last major sponsored gaming event by Green Label Gaming in 2014, Green Label Game Jam was a four-day event with the intention of developers competing for prizes. For a multitude of reasons, this YouTube reality show fell apart rapidly and left PepsiCo with a black eye.

To do so, players will need to make use of the new Weapon Power-up items in addition to the usual combos. Here's how to evolve each weapon.

How to upgrade each weapon in Vampire Survivors: Operation Guns

  • Long Gun -> Prototype A
    • Long Gun + Weapon Power-up

  • Homing Miss -> Multistage Missiles
    • Homing Miss + Weapon Power-up + Duplicator

  • Blade Crossbow -> BFC2000-AD
    • Blade Crossbow + Weapon Power-up + Clover

  • Sonic Bloom -> Wave Beam
    • Sonic Bloom + Weapon Power-up + Armor

  • Short Gun -> Prototype B
    • Short Gun + Weapon Power-up + Bracer

  • Spread Shot -> Prototype C

  • C-U-Laser -> Pronto Beam
    • C-U-Laser + Weapon Power-up + Tirajisu

  • Diver Mines -> Atmo-Torpedo
    • Diver Mines + Weapon Power-up + Attractorb

  • Metal Claw -> Big Fuzzy Fist
    • Metal Claw + Weapon Power-up + Hollow Heart

After getting the initial weapon upgrade, I haven't seen a need for the Weapon Power-up on subsequent runs in terms of being a necessary ingredient. Once it's in the grimoire, you should be good to go with other characters, maps, etc. That being said, it's still a good idea to collect them as they'll give +1 to a random equipped weapon in addition to a Revive.

As for procuring the upgrade, I found it easiest to pick the corresponding Contra character that starts with the weapon you want to upgrade and load into the "Attack Aggressively" level. There are two Weapon Power-ups fairly close by you can pick up. As for the Passive Power-up, make sure to save a slot for the item you need, and don't be afraid to use your Rerolls or Banishments. Once the weapon and passive item are upgraded, it's only a matter of getting a chest to drop with the evolution.

It shouldn't take too long to find each weapon evolution this way, and you'll then be set up for success in other modes. One last tip is to avoid collecting too many of the base Operation Guns weapons when trying to unlock the evolutions. This way, you'll avoid the chance of burning a Weapon Power-up on an evolution you didn't want.

A year and two DLC releases later, Tonberries have finally arrived in Final Fantasy XVI. These Final Fantasy staples have grown in notoriety over the years, and those in the know are aware they serve a dark King. Here's how to challenge the monarchy and topple the Tonberry King.

Where to find the Tonberry King in Final Fantasy 16

After reaching the hidden town of Haven in Mysidia, Clive and crew will be tasked with unraveling the mystery surrounding Leviathan. As such, that quest line will take priority until you complete your first interaction with the sea serpent. Upon returning to the town and getting some more exposition, you'll be able to pick up the short chain of side quests leading to the Tonberry King.

Quest - What Ails You

Speak with Fanet in town to obtain the "What Ails You" quest. After getting some clues from another local, you'll be tasked with tracking down a Tonberry site in Father's Fell. After slaying the little cultists and recovering the necklace, you'll need to return to Fanet.

Quest - Reign of Pain

After surviving the gauntlet that is the final Leviathan encounter you'll head back to Haven, where the second Tonberry quest will now be available. Our ailing resident's pain is only getting worse, which suggests to Fanet that Clive will need to take down the Tonberry King to break the curse.

As you head up to the Cloak, there will be several groups of Tonberries to be dispatched. Along the way, the land rumbles and shakes as if a Kaiju has emerged. Sadly, after finding the Tonberry King, you'll realize that he isn't Ifrit-sized, but is nonetheless imposing with his gigantic kitchen knife.

General tips

  • Stock up on potions before seeking out the Tonberry King. He's a surprisingly fast foe and packs a punch.
  • Much like the Timekeeper fight, using the Serpent's Cry ability from the Leviathan kit is extremely useful, as it makes Clive equally nimble and able to attack at a distance.
  • While Everyone's Grudge is active, prioritize the elimination of the minions or you'll be quickly overrun.

General attacks

  • Unlike the other Tonberries, the King moves quite quickly and will frequently teleport around the arena.
  • After teleporting, the Tonberry King will make several swipes with his kitchen knife before teleporting away like a reptilian Nightcrawler.
  • The Tonberry King's lantern can be used to summon several spots of dark energy on the ground that will explode. Keep moving to avoid being hit.
  • Another move used after teleporting is the King impaling the ground with his kitchen knife, unleashing a large AoE of dark energy.
  • While swinging his kitchen knife, the Tonberry King will rarely unleash an attack not unlike Guile's Sonic Boom.

Everyone's Grudge

The Tonberry King summons several allies called Tonberry Shadowers. Individually they're not a threat, but the King will quickly summon a veritable army if you don't cull them quickly enough. These little guys will brandish their knives and dash towards Clive, dealing a moderate amount of damage.

Desoul

At about 20% life, the Tonberry King will trigger Desoul. This chain of attacks has the regal reptilian glowing red as he teleports about the arena, swinging his kitchen knife, before plunging it into the ground and summoning several dark energy AoE spots.

Reward - Tonberry Knife

As you complete the various quests in Mysidia, you'll gather the materials necessary for crafting the Tonberry Knife weapon. These are:

  • 1x Notched Tang
  • 1x Aqueous Membrane
  • 2x Orichalcum
  • 2x Fool's Gold

While the attack power isn't the best at 350, it's the absolutely bonkers 700 Stagger that makes this weapon shine. It's nearly 300 Stagger higher than the Omega Weapon and is like a cheat code for melting stamina bars and then doing tremendous amounts of damage.
