There's also the T-45 Hot Rod Shark Power Armor figure, which features the iconic Hot Rod Shark emblem on the front of the Power Armor. Best Times to Buy a Nintendo Switch

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Like most video game consoles, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the best times of the year to buy a Nintendo Switch. Each year, Nintendo has released the same console bundle for Black Friday: a Red/Blue Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundled in for free. While this deal is priced at $299 every year, it is possible Nintendo will discount it further as the Switch approaches the end of its lifetime.

We've also seen Black Friday deals on Nintendo Switch Lite, where a free game and discount are bundled together. It is anyone's guess as to what Nintendo will have to offer for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2024, but we would count on the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle returning for another go around.

2024 will likely see some of the best Switch deals ever considering the Switch 2 will be releasing sometime in 2025.

Holiday Weekends

Another great time to pick up a Nintendo Switch is one of the major holiday weekends in the United States. This includes Memorial Day Weekend, Independence Day, President's Day, and Labor Day. More often than not, retailers like Walmart and Best Buy will host exclusive three day sales, which sometimes can include deals on Nintendo Switch hardware. These discounts usually are locked behind memberships like Walmart + and My Best Buy Plus/Total, so do keep this in mind if you are aiming for the best deals.

Amazon Prime Day

Prime Day is always one of the most popular sales events of the year, and naturally, you can usually find a good Nintendo Switch deal here. In addition to hardware, dozens of games and Switch accessories are always on sale. This makes Prime Day one of the best times to buy a Nintendo Switch, as you can save money on both the console and accessories alongside it.

Prime Day 2, which takes place in October, also acts as the beginning of the Black Friday deals season. This event usually takes place sometime in October based on past years. So, any major Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals are likely to be available during this sales event as well.

Clearance Sales

Recently, retailers like Woot have listed Nintendo Switch models for prices we've rarely seen before, sometimes up to $75 off. These deals happen spontaneously, mostly when the retailer is clearing inventory out. To catch these deals as they happen, we recommend following the IGN Deals account to get notified immediately.

It's also worth mentioning that these same retailers offer open-box and refurbished units at an even lower price, so if you are okay with open-box purchases, consider this as an option. These consoles are certified, which means the retailer has tested and verified the condition of the console. Often, the "Excellent" refurbished consoles are simply open box, with not a scratch on the system itself.

Nintendo Switch 2 is Coming Soon

Nintendo Switch is officially seven years old as of March 2024, with its eighth year in the market officially underway. Since console generations tend to last around seven to eight years at the very most, we do expect Nintendo to release a Switch successor sometime within the next nine months. According to recent reports, Nintendo Switch 2 is likely to feature magnetic Joy-Con, a 1080p screen, and more.

Since a release date is on the horizon, the price of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED are all likely to drop significantly as we head closer to Switch 2. If you are comfortable waiting to purchase a Switch, you can likely score the console at an all-time low towards winter 2024.

Best Times to Buy an iPhone

Right at Release

Surprisingly, the best time to buy an iPhone might be at release. Since many phone providers offer substantial trade-in discounts, often the cheapest you can get a new iPhone is in the few weeks following its release. This is largely due to the amount of trade-in deals, where you can trade in your current phone for a massive discount on the latest iPhone.

To find the best trade-in deals, you should pay close attention to emails from your current provider and adverts online. Many providers like AT&T and T-Mobile run countless ads detailing their deals for new iPhones, so pay close attention right around the weeks leading up to and following an iPhone launch. It's important to keep in mind that some of these offers will be dependent on whether or not you currently own a newer iPhone to trade in, but many providers do offer deals without any stipulations.

Additionally, there are also many deals for the older iPhone models around the release of new iPhones. This year, you can expect to save on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro in September just before and after the iPhone 16 will probably be releasing. The day new iPhone models drop, Apple will drop the price of older models permanently. Since Apple usually reduces inventory of these units, you can usually get a great deal at this time at other retailers.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Like all technology, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are excellent events to purchase a new iPhone. Since they occur just weeks after the release of a new iPhone, discounts are usually still active. You can expect to see the same great discounts and even new ones at retailers and phone providers.

The Black Friday and Cyber Monday long weekend also provides one of the best opportunities to purchase discounted iPhones online. Anything from new models to refurbished models are almost always available on sale, so you can save a good amount of money by holding off until these sales events.

Holiday Weekends

Historically, Apple has offered some substantial discounts on iPhones for both Mother's Day and Father's Day. With these holidays quickly approaching, now is the time to pay close attention to the promotions for these weekends. Retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart will likely promote deals in the coming weeks via social media and email newsletters. You can find a list of what upcoming sales will offer on each retailer's website.

Additionally, other holiday weekends throughout the year are solid options. Columbus Day, for example, is right in the time period after a standard iPhone release. You can usually score a great discount from a phone provider here. On the other hand, early year holidays like President's Day are also good picks, as new iPhone models are still over six months away.

However, not all holidays are good for iPhone deals. The same cannot be said for holiday weekends in the summer. As we outlined above, the middle of summer is the worst time to buy an iPhone, so do not expect to see any deals during Independence Day sales or other August sales. iPhone 16 is Set to Release in Fall 2024

As usual, Apple plans to release a new iPhone in 2024. This will most like be called the iPhone 16, which will arrive with multiple models as all prior iPhones have. We expect to see a standard iPhone 16, larger iPhone 16 Plus, an iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Based on previous releases, Apple will likely release the new iPhone models sometime in September.

The best time to buy these new iPhones and older models like iPhone 15 will be in September and during the weeks following launch. As we head into summer, unless you are in desperate need of a new iPhone, we recommend waiting for the iPhone 16 models to release. This will be the best period all year to get a cheap iPhone, so there is no question at all if you are getting the best deal.

However, some retailers like Best Buy offer competing sales around the same time as Prime Day. Below, we've compiled everything you need to know about Prime Day 2024. Whether you're searching for deal categories or competing sales, we've got you covered.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

The actual date of Prime Day 2024 has not yet been revealed, but Amazon recently announced that the shopping holiday is coming back in July. Based on previous years, we expect Prime Day 2024 to fall sometime during the second week of July. The two-day event was held from Tuesday, July 11 to Wednesday, July 12 last year, so it's possible that Prime Day 2024 will take place from July 9 - 10 or sometime in mid July. This would follow the last three years, so it's unlikely that Amazon will hold the event on a different day of the week.

What About Prime Day 2?

Amazon Prime Day 2 is also held later in the year before Black Friday. This second big deals event started in 2022 and was continued last year in 2023. This year, we expect to see Prime Day 2 once again, most likely in October. Like July's Prime Day, this one will also likely take place during the second week of the month. While this October Prime Day isn't as good as Black Friday, it is still worth browsing if you're looking for deals.

What Prime Day Deals to Expect This Year?

There's no shortage of deals on Amazon Prime Day, as new products will be discounted each hour with various limited-time lighntning deals. Prime Day 2024 will offer some of the best deals you can find on TVs, kitchen appliances, Apple products, vacuums, and more. We've based our categories off of previous Prime Day sales, so expect these to be in line with 2024's event.

Video Games

There a quite a few great times to buy video games throughout the year, and Prime Day is absolutely one of them. Although you might not find discounts on major consoles during the sale, there are sure to be plenty of deals on popular games on the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The Steam Summer sale will also likely be around this time, making it a good season for PC games going on sale as well.

VR Deals

Although you likely can't expect any sort of discount on the Meta Quest 3 or the Apple Vision Pro on Prime Day, you should be able to find a pretty good deal on a VR headset. Vacuums

Vacuums are a hot item every Prime Day. This includes both stick vacuums and robot vacuums, which are great for any household. Big name brands like Dyson and iRobot tend to show out for Prime Day, so we expect to see some quality deals from notable brands this July.

Laptops

Since laptop manufacturers release new models each year, laptops are a staple in the Amazon Prime Day sales event each year. What Deals Not to Expect This Year

Prime Day does not discount everything, though. One of the biggest categories, new video games, tend to not be on sale during the big event. Unlike Black Friday, where all the new 2024 releases will be heavily discounted, Prime Day might have a few small discounts here and there on older games, but nothing susbtantial will likely go out for this sale.

Additionally, the same can be said can usually be said for consoles. The best PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S deals are usually saved for the holiday season, so don't expect to find record low prices on a PS5 Slim bundle or the PlayStation Portal. The same can be said for Nintendo Switch and other gaming PC handhelds like ROG Ally and Steam Deck.

What Other Retailers Have Prime Day Sales?

While Prime Day is exclusive to Amazon, other retailers have begun holding sales of their own in recent years. These sales are meant to be a counter to Prime Day, offering sweet discounts you won't find at any other time of the year except Black Friday.

Best Buy

Best Buy has held the 4th of July sale for the past few years to compete with Prime Day. This event has a focus on TVs, Apple products, laptops, and more. You might even find home theater systems at a discount, which can be a great addition to your living room or media room. This sale will take place right around July 4, so keep an eye out.

Walmart

Walmart has a similar 4th of July sale that lasts for the first week of July. You can find deals on TVs, outdoor furtniture, kitchen appliances, and even the latest headphones. The company also held the "Holiday Kickoff" sale to coincide with Prime Day 2 last year, which allowed customers to get a head start on holiday shopping.

Target

Target has also consistently offered a Prime Day counter sale during the same times as Amazon that has previously been called Target Deal Days. Are There Any Good Sales Before Prime Day 2024?

There are two other main holiday sales that will take place before Prime Day 2024. The first is Memorial Day, which takes place on May 27 this year. That weekend will feature all sorts of deals from major retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and even Amazon. Last year, this sale saw discounts on apparel, outdoor furtniture, bedding, and TVs.

The other major sale prior to Prime Day is the 4th of July. Even though Black Friday is just one day, the sales can start weeks before Thanksgiving even arrives. Retailers rarely save the deals and discounts for the big day, as we've seen them drop as soon as late October in recent years. We've outlined everything you need to know about Black Friday 2024 below. This includes when we expect Black Friday 2024 deals to go live and what deals we expect to see at retailers.

When is Black Friday 2024?

The actual date of Black Friday in 2024 falls on November 29 this year, but the deals season will begin a lot sooner than that. Leading up to the big event, retailers will begin to open deals online. This usually starts in the last week of October, just before Halloween. Each week leading up to the event will slowly roll out more deals, which ultimately leads to Black Friday. Retailers will not reveal their biggest Black Friday deals until the big day, but most general deals will be available well in advance.

What About Cyber Monday?

This year, Cyber Monday 2024 will take place on December 2. This event usually focuses on online shopping and electronics. It's important to understand that Cyber Monday deals will kick in well before December 2. Most retailers nowadays lump together Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, and they will launch in the week leading up to the sale. You can expect to see at least some Cyber Monday deals start to launch around Monday, November 25.

What Black Friday Deals to Expect This Year?

Black Friday has a wide variety of deals you can expect to see, but it generally stays consistent with the major categories. We expect the biggest deals will be for TVs, video game consoles, gaming PCs, Apple products, and video games. This is based on trends from the last few years, so we expect these categories to continue to have the best savings of the year in 2024.

Video Game Consoles

In 2023, we saw major discounts on all major video game consoles. Xbox had the best deals of the season, with the Xbox Series X widely available for $349. PlayStation and Nintendo both offered console bundles with a free title. For Black Friday 2024, we expect to see discounts on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles since both are rumored to be receiving a refresh this year.

Video Games

Without a doubt, Black Friday is the best time of the year to buy video games. Releases from January to November are all discounted. Black Friday 2023 saw many releases like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Space receive discounts of over 50% off. If you decide to hold off on some of this year's biggest releases, you can expect to find them heavily discounted come November.

TVs

If you are searching for a new gaming TV or high-end 4K TV, Black Friday is the perfect time to pick one up. Retailers heavily discount TVs, sometimes up to thousands of dollars worth of savings. Any screen size from 50" to 85" is usually available for the best price you'll see all year, and each retailer offers different TV models, brands, and sizes.

Gaming Laptops

Black Friday is also a very underrated time to grab a new gaming laptop. Some of the best deals on gaming laptops take place during this season, so you can expect to see discounts of over 50% on certain devices. Since new CPUs and graphics cards are released each year, laptops using older hardware are usually discounted to clearance for Black Friday. This year, keep an eye out for laptops utilizing an RTX 4070 graphics card, as the RTX 4070 Super is out now.

Gaming PC

In addition to laptops, many gaming PCs are also on sale for Black Friday. Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart all offered huge savings on prebuilt models last year. PC owners can also expect to see big deals on hardware components and PC parts like cases. Overall, Black Friday is an excellent time to purchase anything for your PC, or even buy a new one.

Apple Products

Black Friday is also an amazing time to grab Apple products. Some of the best deals on iPads, MacBooks, AirPods, and Apple Watches can be found during this sale. Last year, Apple offered Apple Gift Cards for buying the newest Apple Watch models and other new Apple products. We expect to see a similar deal this year across the Apple Store and other major retailers.

What Deals Not to Expect This Year

Even with such a large sales event, there are a handful of items we do not expect to see on sale. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have the best deals for technology, so items like groceries and household items tend to not see steep discounts. This also goes for technology that was recently released, including new video game consoles, devices, and audio equipment. So don't expect discounts on the Apple Vision Pro.

If the Nintendo Switch 2 is released this year, do not expect to see the console go on sale. Since it will be so new, Nintendo will not need to drop the price to entice consumers. Nintendo has traditionally opted to release bundles with pack-in games instead of offering discounts for the big day. Additionally, the same can be said for the PlayStation 5 Pro, also rumored to release in Fall 2024.

Biggest Black Friday Retailers

In recent years, the best deals can be found at a few major retailers. These retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart. You can expect to find the same great deals in stores available on each of these retailer's websites, which covers almost every deal you could ever ask for on Black Friday.

Amazon Black Friday

Amazon offers the most deals each Black Friday, covering almost every category on sale. With this range, Amazon has more niche deal offerings that you won't be able to find at other retailers. You will find that Amazon has almost every deal available at other retailers, thanks to price matching. The best deals for video games and tech will be something to look for here. Even home items, like lamps, pillows, and bedding, drop to year-round lows.

Best Buy Black Friday

Best Buy has excellent deals for Black Friday on. Specifically, the retailer has a focus on deals for TVs, video games, and other technology. New deals will be added to the Best Buy website leading up to the big day, so it can be easy to miss a deal. The company also tends to offer great deals on some of the best headphones in the market. During Black Friday 2023, we saw great deals on the Sony WH-1000XM5 and the Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones at Best Buy.

Walmart Black Friday

Walmart has thousands of items on sale each Black Friday. 2024 shouldn't be an exception, with a huge variety of items and categories to choose from. Last year, Walmart had some of the best TV deals available with steep discounts. This included OLED models like the Sony XR A75L Bravia and Samsung's The Frame TV. Walmart launches its Black Friday deals starting around the week before Thanksgiving, so expect to get an idea of the biggest Walmart Black Friday deals around then.

Target Black Friday

Like Walmart, Target offers a wide variety of Black Friday deals. You can expect to see deals on the latest Apple products, TVs, and electronics. Additionally, Target offers deals on home items like vacuums, coffee makers, and even KitchenAid Mixers. Look for the retailer to offer its biggest deals a few days before Thanksgiving.

Are There Any Good Sales Before Black Friday 2024?

The biggest sales event of the year besides Black Friday is Amazon Prime Day. This giant sale is exclusive to Amazon Prime Members and discounts thousands of products to all-time low prices. Amazon hosts two different Prime Days throughout the year, usually set for July and October. Without a doubt, these are the best days to do most of your shopping outside of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Besides Prime Day, most retailers will hold sales for major holidays. This includes Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Offerings from major retailers depend on the holiday, but you'll find a steady stream of deals throughout the year.
