Gang of Dragon release: All we know about the action-adventure game

10. Leden 2026 v 13:00

⚠This page mixes confirmed information with industry rumors and speculation. We’ll keep it updated as new details and leaks come to light.

2026 is going to be the year of Grand Theft Auto 6, unless Rockstar decides to delay again. The meteoritic impact of the next Grand Theft Auto has seemingly killed the competition, with the likes of Saints Row sputtering out and Mafia needing to set itself in drastically different eras to avoid comparisons.

There’s one man who isn’t afraid of releasing crime games in a Grand Theft Auto world, and his name is Toshihiro Nagoshi. His next game, Gang of Dragon, involves Mafia battles on the streets of Japan, and unlike its distant relatives in the Like a Dragon franchise, it won’t be afraid to get behind the wheel of a car.

The Escapist recaps

  • Gang of Dragon is an upcoming action game set in Tokyo.
  • The game is developed by Nagoshi Studio, headed by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the Like a Dragon franchise, which was formerly known as Yakuza
  • Gang of Dragon involves organized crime, with the protagonist, Shin Ji-seong, a high-ranking member of the Korean mafia operating in Japan.
  • Gang of Dragon had its debut trailer at The Game Awards 2025, where it drew comparisons to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise.

When could Gang of Dragon be released?

Gang of Dragon currently lacks a release window and is listed as “coming soon” online. This strongly suggests that the Gang of Dragon won’t be launching in 2026.

If it were that close, the trailers would have provided a release window. Chances are, Gang of Dragon will launch in 2027, though that is still speculation.

Gang of Dragon price & pre-orders

As Gang of Dragon lacks a release date, there is no price or pre-order information. Due to the game’s scope, it will likely be a full-price release, somewhere in the $70-80 range.

It is, however, possible to wishlist the game on Steam

As of the time of writing, Gang of Dragon is only confirmed to be coming to PC via Steam. There is no official announcement regarding a console release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch 2. A console release feels likely, and it’s probably going to be revealed closer to the game’s actual release date.

Gang of Dragon trailer & gameplay analysis

The first trailer for Gang of Dragon was shown at The Game Awards 2025. The debut trailer featured a mix of gameplay footage and cinematics, offering a glimpse of its gritty, blood-stained world.

Gang of Dragon stars Shin Ji-seong, a Korean gangster who has arrived in Kabukicho in the Shinjuku region of Tokyo. Kabukicho is an infamous red-light district known for its raunchy nightlife.

Much of the goings on here are controlled by organized crime syndicates, making it a natural place to set a video game.

The initial gameplay trailer for Gang of Dragon drew many comparisons to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, owing to its setting, themes, and even its name. Gang of Dragon may be going for a more serious, bloody tone than Like a Dragon, as the trailer lacked levity, though this could be a misconception stemming from a lack of footage.

The Like a Dragon series tends to keep its wackiness to side content, with the main storylines featuring darker and more violent scenes.

There’s one aspect in which Gang of Dragon greatly differs from Like a Dragon, and that is in its use of vehicles. The Like a Dragon series has often been compared to Grand Theft Auto, even though the two franchises have vastly different gameplay: Like a Dragon is more of a brawler set in a small location, while Grand Theft Auto lets players drive around massive open worlds.

The initial Gang of Dragon trailer and screenshots confirm that driving will be part of the game, as vehicle customization is included. Shin Ji-seong is also seen behind the wheel during the trailer. The addition of driving helps distance Gang of Dragon from Like a Dragon and hints at a much larger scope for the game world.

Gang of Dragon is a third-person action game with a focus on martial arts, but weapons are also a considerable part of the experience, with blades and guns being available to the player.

Shin Ji-seong is much larger than Kiryu/Ichiban (the protagonists of the Like a Dragon series), and this translates into him being able to dominate through sheer strength.

While much hasn’t been revealed about Gang of Dragon’s story (outside of Shin Ji-seong being a member of the Korean Mafia who is operating in Japan), the game’s official Steam page puts a focus on the protagonist forming human connections amid all of the violence, suggesting it won’t just be a straight-up story of shooting gangsters.

Hopefully, more will be revealed when Gang of Dragon is shown at a future trade show.

Ask The Escapist

Who is portraying the protagonist of Gang of Dragon?

Shin Ji-seong is portrayed by Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee. He is an acclaimed South Korean actor who has appeared in numerous films, including Eternals. In Gang of Dragon, he’s providing both his voice and his likeness.

Is Gang of Dragon coming to PS5?

No console ports of Gang of Dragon have been confirmed. However, console ports seem extremely likely and will probably be announced closer to launch.

Is Gang of Dragon a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game?

No. While it has many similarities (owing to its creator and many of the same production staff), it’s an entirely new franchise. Different companies also own the two series. There’s always a chance they could cross over in the future, assuming Gang of Dragon takes off.

Does Gang of Dragon have multiplayer?

Gang of Dragon appears to be a single-player only experience, as it’s listed as such on Steam. Based on its pedigree, it’s likely a story-focused game.

Vampire Crawlers release: All we know about the roguelite deckbuilder

3. Prosinec 2025 v 15:10

The world of Vampire Survivors is about to expand into a new dimension, as in, first person, as a spin-off called Vampire Crawlers is on the way. This means players will be exploring dungeons like in old PC RPGs, searching for treasures down murky corridors.

Vampire Survivors might not have been the most original in its aesthetics, but its gameplay loop inspired an entire generation of copycats. Vampire Crawlers also wears its inspirations on its sleeve, but will its gameplay hook the industry in the same way?

The Escapist recaps

  • Vampire Crawlers is an upcoming roguelike first-person deckbuilding dungeon explorer.
  • The game’s full name is Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors, but it will be referred to as Vampire Crawlers in this piece because the longer name is silly.
  • Vampire Crawlers is a spin-off of Vampire Survivors, using the same characters and setting.
  • Vampire Crawlers is developed by Poncle, the same studio as Vampire Survivors, meaning it wasn’t farmed out to a third-party studio.
  • Vampire Crawlers debuted on November 20, 2025, at the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase.

Vampire Crawlers release date, platforms, & special editions

Vampire Crawlers is an upcoming first-person roguelite deckbuilder set in the same world as Vampire Survivors. While Poncle hasn’t confirmed Vampire Crawlers’ release date, they believe it will come out in 2026.

The Vampire Crawlers platforms are PC via Steam, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 (via backward compatibility), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This means the game will be available on pretty much everything.

There’s currently no physical version of Vampire Crawlers on the market, which means there’s little chance of it getting any special editions. This is a huge shame, as a version with little sprite figures would be loved by fans, especially if it came with a big piece of garlic.

What is Vampire Crawlers?

Vampire Crawlers is all about pulling off ridiculous combos using lots of cards. Image credit: Poncle

While Castlevania and bullet-hell shooters heavily inspired Vampire Survivors, Vampire Crawlers draws inspiration from old first-person dungeon crawlers like Wizardry and Eye of the Beholder

The inspiration comes in the form of the aesthetic and exploration, with the player exploring dungeons through the eyes of the main character.

The Vampire Crawlers gameplay is much different than an old school dungeon crawler. Vampire Crawlers is a deckbuilder where you fight through hordes of enemies. It’s currently unclear how much the player will get to build their deck beforehand, especially as there are a variety of different characters and weapons from Vampire Survivors to choose from.

In Vampire Crawlers, you pick a Crawler and start exploring dungeons. The player character has a health bar, levels up throughout battle, earns coins that can be spent on upgrades, and, most importantly, has access to a mana meter that is used to play cards.

The mana meter starts at zero. To increase it, you have to play cards in sequence. See, every card has a number in the top-left corner, starting from zero. Playing combinations of cards in sequence, going from zero to one, to two, etc, is how combos are played.

Additionally, there are Wild cards that can ignore the number restriction and keep the combo going. This allows for lengthy attack chains, with the developer publicly asking players on the Vampire Crawlers Steam page whether they can make an infinite combo.

Vampire Crawlers gameplay trailer analysis & speculation

The first trailer for Vampire Crawlers is available on the Poncle YouTube channel. This was the one shown during the November 20 Xbox Partner Preview.

The trailer opened up with Poe, the incredibly popular garlic-using old man from Vampire Survivors. Poe became something of a meme, being a shuffling pensioner who also happened to be one of the best characters in the game, thanks to starting with garlic, which deals a constant damaging AoE.

In the trailer, Poe is depicted as a badass sorcerer with a Garlic-tipped staff. This is likely just a joke about Poe’s popularity, rather than any hint at him being a significant character. Indeed, there’s little story or lore to speak of in the first Vampire Crawlers trailer.

The Vampire Crawlers gameplay trailer shows several stages and enemies from Vampire Survivors, though the main difference is that it’s now viewed from a first-person perspective. There appears to be a Super Mario World-style overworld, where the player travels between areas using roads and paths unlocked after completing levels.

The stages in Vampire Crawlers have a minimap that marks enemies and points of interest. There are treasure chests that are opened by head-butting them. The reward shown in the trailer was a selection of gems that granted passive buffs, such as strengthening projectiles or armor. A later menu shows these being inserted into specific cards.

There doesn’t appear to be a strict hand limit in Vampire Crawlers, as there is a hand with 29 cards shown at one point. The corner numbers range from 0-4, with Wild cards depicted by a W. The weapon and item selection seems to be reused from Vampire Survivors, including garlic, daggers, and the wand of fire.

The characters from Vampire Survivors have their own cards with numbers and effects, each with a duration. Poe, for example, increases draw size by one and lasts for 11 duration. It’s unclear if duration refers to turns in battle, how many steps the player takes in the dungeon, or both. One of the menus shows three Crawlers together, suggesting a party system.

There appears to be an area outside of the dungeons, where players can purchase upgrades. This is a change from Vampire Survivors, where this was all done with menus. The Arcana cards are shown in a Fortune Teller-style tent, while the Crawlers are in some kind of tavern.

There are a ton of questions still lingering about Vampire Crawlers, especially regarding the deck-building, but the hints given by Poncle have us excited about the game’s potential, especially with the ridiculous card combos that are waiting to be found.

Ask The Escapist

Is Vampire Crawlers coming to Game Pass at launch?

Yes! Poncle has confirmed that Vampire Crawlers will be available on Xbox Game Pass Premium and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Will Vampire Crawlers have an early access period, like Vampire Survivors?

No. The developers are launching it as a full release.

Is Vampire Crawlers a direct sequel to Vampire Survivors?

No. However, the developers have strongly hinted that a Vampire Survivors sequel is on the way. The sequel has yet to be formally announced, and it is likely to be released after Vampire Crawlers.

Is Poe returning as a playable character in Vampire Crawlers?

Of course. If he didn’t, the fans would have rioted. Poe is the Simon Belmont of the Vampire Survivors universe.
