Is an n100 a practical owncloud solution?

I've been wanting to set up an owncloud for a while and stop paying google for additional storage in my google drive. I always thought of it as being a raspberry pi based set up with a powered usb hub and external hard drives.

Looking at these some of these N100 units, I'm wondering if they couldn't fill that gap?

To me it seems like the ethernet port and the 2.5mm SSD slots that some have make for a pretty solid starting place, but I'd like to get some thoughts on it before pulling the trigger on another project.

Ultimate vertical “handheld”

Ultimate vertical “handheld”

Just want to share my latest build.

Galaxy tab s3 in rugged case + modified Gamesir g8 galileo.

Oled screen and super comfy controller. By far it’s my favorite way to play DS and vertical arcades. To my surprise some ports and native android games support locked vertical orientation.

Are there any other more powerful tablets with 4:3 aspect ratio?

Games: New Super Mario DS, Might&Magic clash of heroes Ds, Astro Blaster mame, TES Morrowind through OpenMW, Rush Rally 3

ES-DE Now on android

ES-DE Now on android

I'm very happy to announce that after months of hard work ES-DE is now available on Android! This is a paid (but cheap) app that you can buy from the Amazon Appstore. Maybe some day there will be a release for the Google Play store as well, but so far Google has been unwilling to let me publish ES-DE on their store. There's a new channel in our discoed server for help there are pinned links to Android-specific documentation and an FAQ. You can also provide feedback and report bugs there. Enjoy!

To be clear this is an emulation front end for android with full theming capabilities. It is the EXACT same application as the desktop, steamdeck and mac versions. It allows favorites, media scraping, medadata editing, theme downloading custom collections and has minimal user setup, drop roms into the roms folders (which the app can set up if requested during setup) and then that system appears. more details of the application can be found at www.es-de.org

The BSP D9 Controller is Amazing

The BSP D9 Controller is Amazing

I really love the feel of this controller and the button layout. This is the only controller that fits perfectly with a 1.5tb Micro SD attached to my Samsung S23 Ultra via OTG USB-C adapter.

Still hoping that Backbone or Gamesir can make a mobile controller that includes USB C data pass through in the future.

Mini PC for school student

Just looking for some input. I have not looked into a PC purchase for a long long time. I am looking to get a mini PC for a primary school student. Something that can run windows and ms office, plus have the functionality to run a few games, maybe emulate some PS3. I have looked into the beelink Ser4 and the Asus pn41 so far.

It's been so long that I don't really know what I'm looking for. Something around $400 is my market. Are there other options besides the beelink or Asus?

Looking at the Beelink SER5 Mini PC for programming side projects, anything I should be aware of?

I've been on the hunt for a very lightweight PC that I can use for working on pretty simple programming projects (learning languages, little apps here and there, nothing that's going to be handling heavy external requests) and the Beelink series seems perfect for what I am after.

For those that have gone with this PC or something similar to Beelink, how have you found this box worked for you? The only thing I need to do, it seems, is flash the BIOS and get linux on there instead of Windows 11. But given that it's a mini pc i'm curious if there's anything I should look out for when wiping Windows for Linux. I'm also curious how this thing sounds and if it overheats.

I don't think my workloads will be anything close to pushing this thing to the edge, but I might have some docker containers going here and there (but nothing that'll require high availability). If I wanted to upgrade a part on it later (RAM or disk space), is it easy enough to upgrade?

T8 PRO/PLUS running Docker easy?

I've been looking on AliExpress and other places for a mini pc to replace my RiPi 4. It's really slowing down. If like to run my docker images and selfhost ABS, Arr and other things I currently run.

Is the T8 PRO good for this? Is it easy enough to get it running like I do my RiPi? It has N100, 16G and 512G but I'll be adding my SSD and everything else to it.

It's only £100ish so really cheap. Maybe something better is good for this price? I'm happy to take suggestions.

Id also like to know of any guides on setting it up and if it's easy to use as a server?

Thanks in advance.

Illegal ASRock DeskMeet B660 with i5 13600KF and RTX 4060 Ti

Illegal ASRock DeskMeet B660 with i5 13600KF and RTX 4060 Ti

ASRock DeskMeet B660 has terrible thermal design. What if we want to install top components available? Like a 125W CPU and a 160W GPU? Unfortunately, the official website says that we can only install processors with up to 65W with air cooling. But I have i5 13600KF and MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti VENTUS 2X which has the maximum allowed 200 mm length, and of course I don't want to exchange the GPU for water cooling. So let's upgrade our air cooling system! And yes, it will handle 125W CPU and 160W GPU with no throttling!

https://preview.redd.it/ypxdf9ucqsjc1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=707467ea7880cc1750042fa92dbb973c0df343d5

  1. Use the best thermal paste available, MX-4 is fine
  2. Use any CPU cooler with 4+ heat pipes and up to 30 mm heatsink, I'm using cheap ID-COOLING IS-40X V3 (AXP90-X47 FULL can be the best choice)
  3. Remove the 92 mm stock fan and install the heatsink only
  4. You'll need 2 high-performance 120 mm 4-pin fans like Arctic P12 Max with ~3000 RPM
  5. Additionally you can add 2 small 50 mm 3-pin fans to exhaust hot air from the GPU (fix them with double-sided tape and connect to CHA_FAN with a switch cable)
  6. Disassemble the stock 500W PSU, remove the top cover and remove the stock 2-pin fan
  7. Install 1 high-performance fan inside and 1 outside, keep air direction the same, to the CPU (use double-sided tape or long screws), connect fans to CPU_FAN with a switch cable)
  8. Set BIOS settings: adjust CPU_FAN (big fans) and CHA_FANS (small fans), set Vcore Compensation = Level 1, Offset Voltage = -50, Base Frequency Boost = 100W (max)
  9. Run stress tests and monitor fan speeds and CPU temp
  10. Go to BIOS and adjust speed curves for big and small fans to make them silent in the idle mode

GMKTek G2 appears dead

I’ve a GMKTec G2 that arrived last week. It. booted up fine, I updated the bios and left it running Windows updates over night. At about 2am it hung (power monitoring dropped to 6W and sat there) and in the morning had a blank screen and was unresponsive. I’ve tried long pressing the power button. I’ve unplugged and replugged. I’ve also tried a full reset (unplug, remove battery, bridge battery connector and hold the power button for a minute). But nothing seems to work. The box just sits with the power light on and fan spinning but with no video output (tried both HDMI and the DP) and no network response (doesn’t show as connected to a switch at all).

GMKTec have not replied to any emails, so before I file a chargeback on my CC does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to “revive” the device? I’d rather like to use it. TIA.

Advice on Plex server/desktop replacement Mini PC

I’ve recently been doing some research into mini PCs, to use as a Plex server and desktop replacement, and wanted to get some further advice.

Background

I’ve been running a Raspberry Pi Plex server for a few years, but it's not great. I have been considering replacing with a NAS but the cost was off putting, especially as I don’t have any heavy transcoding needs, so when I saw the suggestion of a mini PC for a few hundred pounds that seemed like a more appealing option.

My AMD Athlon X4 desktop is nearly 10 years old and whilst it still does the job for web browsing, Office, streaming and some light gaming, I’ve been considering an upgrade at some point. Feels like a mini PC with a half decent spec and Windows will be a good option to replace both, and save a lot of space.

Storage

I have a 4TB external drive hooked up to the Raspberry Pi, and 2 x 2TB 3.5” HDDs in my desktop (which I sync to the external drive).

It seems like most mini PCs have space for an additional 2.5” drive, but specify a 2TB limit, so I was considering getting one or two caddies to use with my existing HDDs. But from what I’ve since read it seems that this 2TB limit isn’t necessarily the case, does anyone have experience of using a larger capacity drive? If this is feasible, to reduce external devices, I’d probably go for a 4TB SSD for my media, and then keep using the external drive as a backup.

I also have a 5.25” BD-RW drive which I use for ripping discs and occasional burning. I think a portable drive to replace this won’t cost much more than a caddy for the existing drive, and will be more compact.

Processor

When I was only considering as a Plex server, it seemed the Intel N100 would be a very suitable processor, and while it would still be an improvement on my current desktop it feels like spending a bit more to get something more future-proofed would be worthwhile. I’ve been looking at a few devices with the AMD Ryzen5 5560U, is this overkill for my needs, or worth the extra? Certainly don’t think I need anything faster, but I’m also not sure if there’s benefit of going Intel over AMD?

General

I assume there are no issues leaving it running permanently as a server? It won’t be in heavy use so want to minimise consumption when not in use, presumably it can sleep and be awakened when needed?

And any other tips/suggestions?
I’m UK based and looking to buy from Amazon. £300 feels like a realistic budget for the mini PC (and then the additional drives on top), at the moment these two are looking like good options but will consider others devices/configurations based on advice/responses to the above questions.

Gen 4 M2 compatability with Gen 3 M2 slot

I have a Minisforum NUCXi7 which has two M2 Nvme slots the boot being Gen 4 and the secondary M2 slot is Gen 3. Now for the past 9 months everything has worked OK recently the 1TB Lexar M2 Gen 4 stick using the 3rd Gen M2 slot has disappeared from the Win11 pro OS. Subsequently fitting another brand new M2 Gen4 stick has made no difference.

I did notice lately that the case was getting a tad warm and the cooling fan appears to running nearly all the time during any backup operation. The dealer is telling me the issue lies with Gen 4/3 incompatibilty, My gut feeling is the innards are overheating and slot 2 has fried ?? or its Windows 11 Pro playing games ?

[Mobox] Stellaris playable on 8+gen1 (Crashes when taking screenshots)

[Mobox] Stellaris playable on 8+gen1 (Crashes when taking screenshots)

Just want to share, I've spent days stressing on how to make this work and finally made it work on Mobox. I'm so glad I finally get to play this game on my phone anywhere :D

The best setup I've tested is with the regular mobox (not the wow64 version). Use wine custom ge 25 for your container.Set Dynarec settings with 15. Enable esync. Important part,on the DXVK settings set the Max frame rate to around 40 or 60 FPS. Also, use dxvk-dev and turnip v4 as renderers in the start menu

Everytime I tried playing this game before, it always crashes the game or the whole termux app force closes. Just recently realized that the frame rate is set as unlimited on default, and changing those settings made huge changes. Now it only crashes when opening other apps or taking screenshots. If anyone have a better setup it would be great to know, thank you!

What are these new UM790 Pro drivers for and do I have to install it: AMD IPU Driver.zip?

What are these new UM790 Pro drivers for and do I have to install it: AMD IPU Driver.zip

Found these new AMD drivers on the Official Minisforum Support site

Minisforum

What does it do? Do I need to install it, how to install and how to check if installed properly?

Currently running Windows 11 Pro, I tried extracting the zip.file, then tried double clicking on the install.bat

some command prompt screens or terminal screens loaded up for a split second and then nothing happened?

Is it supposed to do that? Don't I get a command prompt/terminal screen saying something along the lines of 'installation successful' ?

Restarted the PC afterwards and noticed nothing different yet? So what does this new driver do exactly?

I tried looking for a new 'AMD IPU Device' entry in Device Manager => System Devices but didn't find anything.

Anyone else notice this new AMD driver (22/Jan/2024) for the Minisforum UM790 Pro and have any luck in installing it?
