Pegatron latest company to venture into Traditional Chinese AI LLMs; partners up with NTU team

Following in the footsteps of MediaTek, Pegatron is also starting to use open-source models to build a Traditional Chinese LLM, with partners including Nvidia and other industry representatives. It is reported that the team that developed the Taiwan LLM, which is from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) at National Taiwan University (NTU), is also a partner.

Foxconn, ZF establish car chassis system joint venture

Foxconn has invested in critical EV components and modules, in addition to vehicle manufacturing, to scale its EV venture. Its partner ZF Group, one of the leading automotive suppliers, announced on Wednesday that the two companies had completed the process of forming a joint venture for passenger car chassis systems on April 30.

A step into high-end technology: EISO joins satellite industry with its PCB production

EISO, the PCB factory, participated in the Satellite 2024 Conference & Exhibition held in Washington DC, USA for the first time, marking the company's entry into Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite applications. This shows EISO's shift of focus to a high-end application of PCB technology, aside from their continuing efforts on domestic and international markets for electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes).

Why did BYD's 1Q24 profits drop by 47.3% compared to previous quarter?

In the first quarter of 2024, BYD's net profit was CNY4.57 billion (approx. US$630 million), a year-on-year increase of 10.6%, but a significant decrease of 47.3% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. This highlighted that profitability was impacted by slowing demand for EVs and intense price competition. Market analysis suggests that while the penetration and sales of EVs are growing, it has come with a decrease in profits.

PTI raises 2024 capex by 50% to boost HBM production for lucrative AI opportunities

Taiwan's top memory backend specialist Powertech Technology (PTI) has decided to sharply raise its capital expenditure for 2024 from the original NT$10 billion (US$307.22 million) to NT$15 billion, some 60% of which will be used for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products to capture lucrative opportunities in AI applications, according to company sources.

Apple to emerge from slump in 2H24, says supply chain

Apple is expected to rebound from a lackluster first half of 2024, with shipments of both iPhones and Mac computers picking up in the latter part of the year, say supply chain sources. As mere hardware refreshes can no longer stimulate consumer purchases, market attention has focused almost exclusively on AI and foldable screens; in Apple's case, however, implementing AI into their products may be the quicker option.
