When it came to choosing a developer for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, I firmly believe MachineGames was the right team for the job. He’s not saying that it will be his final game, but as Peter Molyneux talks about Masters of Albion, there’s certainly a sense of ‘one last job’ - a swansong and a homecoming that combines all the greatest works of his career into a culminating statement. The interface, a supple and intuitive hand that you can use to pick up villagers and assemble buildings, comes right from Black and White. The world and its name owe their inspirations to Fable, and the third-person combat (more on that later) whispers of Dungeon Keeper. Of course, just like Populous, Molyneux’s breakout hit from 1989, this is also a strategy and god game. Absent is the top-hatted financial manager from Theme Park, and Theme Hospital’s nasally receptionist, but the band is otherwise back together. As well as his best-known games, Masters of Albion reunites some of Molyneux’s closest creative collaborators.

Announced back in January 2021, not much was known about the upcoming Indiana Jones game apart from Machine Games, the developers of the modern Wolfenstein games, was handling it. Arrakis, dune, desert planet. It’s a lovely place, filled with Fremen, sandworms, spice, and war. Half-Life: Alyx needs to be played. Ignoring all the amazing set pieces and revolutionary visual flourishes, if you’re a long-time devout of Valve’s FPS series, there are some vital story moments in the VR shooter that completely change how you look at Half-Life 2 and the episodes. To borrow Digital Extremes’ own words, they’ve certainly pushed the boat out with Warframe 1999. The Metal Gear Solid-inspired questline has exploding motorcycles, the game’s first-ever dating sim, and a pounding, industrial metal soundtrack that’s absolute perfection. But none of that means anything without a solid cast of characters - in this instance, The Hex, our merry, Guardians of the Galaxy-esque band of protoframe misfits. It’s a star-studded cast both in and outside of the game, with Final Fantasy 16 and Expedition 33’s Ben Starr captaining the squad as the rough-and-ready Arthur, and Cyberpunk 2077’s Alpha Takahashi causing chaos as Aoi. They’re pitted against Resident Evil’s Nick Apostolides, the seemingly harmless frontman of boy band On-Lyne who, it turns out, isn’t just a pretty face.

Who’s it for then? Simply put, a gamer who’s not looking to waste any cash. The less budget you have, the more valuable that budget becomes, certainly when it comes to putting it in the right place. It’s a balancing act, making sure you don’t accidentally buy a laptop that has an obvious bottleneck, and Lenovo has worked hard to ensure that’s not going to happen.

There is one big caveat to that statement, but I’ll touch on that in the benchmark section. I’ve been testing the Legion Slim 5 for around two weeks now, using it as my daily driver at times, gaming on it at others, and have run it through all manner of benchmarks. I even managed to sneak in a few hours on Baldur’s Gate 3 with it as well.
