Annabel Gutherz releases new single "Showtime, Baby!"

Rising Canadian singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz has unveiled their new single "Showtime, Baby!" today.

The artist said this about the new single:

"If life is a stage, am I always performing? This is a central question in 'Showtime, Baby!,' where I explore the tension between living authentically for myself and living to meet others' expectations. It addresses the fray of seeking approval and belonging while striving to be truly seen and understood for who I am. Ultimately, I've learned that prioritizing my own feelings and experiences is essential, as it's the only way to lead my every day with purpose and meaning and foster deep happiness."

"Showtime, Baby!" is out on digital services right now.

SHOWTIME, BABY!
Out Now, and with a question I’ve returned to often: Do I live for myself or do I live for others?
I’m so excited to share this little piece of my heart with you, and can’t wait to perform it live soon!!! pic.twitter.com/k0gWFtv0Oy

Hourglass Attractions is proud to partner with Crystal Dynamics to pull the iconic TOMB RAIDER franchise out of video game consoles and into Seattle’s downtown waterfront. With the new waterfront redevelopment project fully underway and slated for completion in early 2025, this new TOMB RAIDER experience will be one of many exciting destinations for visitors and locals alike to enjoy along the new pedestrian-friendly “front porch of our city.”

Brooklyn power pop band Onesie release new single "Gift of Gab"

Brooklyn power pop band Onesie have delivered their new single “Gift of Gab.”

The track was recorded during the recording sessions of Onesie’s last studio album Liminal Hiss but didn’t make it on the record. The tune features a slew of pop culture references, including Taco Bell and Saturday Night Live. Vocalist Ben Haberland said this about the song, which is out on digital services right now:

“I love wacky juxtaposition and specific references, but I found myself second guessing duct taping together all these disparate entities…Instagram, Saturday Night Live, Madison Square Garden, Kentucky Fried Chicken and especially Taco Bell - in both full name and acronym form. Was it too goofy? Flash forward a few months ago, I found myself re obsessed with Supertramp's Breakfast In America. On "Gone Hollywood", a lyric sprang forth that had escaped me all these years: I'm in this dumb motel near the Taco Bell. Without a hope in hell. I can't believe that I'm still around. Then, a week later, a neighbor asked us to sit their cats named "Taco" and "Bell". The signs were accruing. The band unearthed it at practice and it sounded so vicious and fresh - very different from the rest of our usual set fodder. It was reborn.”

In the following months, Onesie will have a string of performances in the Northeast. Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets are on sale to the general public right now.

Cited as many players’ first dungeon crawler, FATE’s legacy is preserved and enhanced in its upcoming Reawakened remaster, conserving all the beloved characteristics of the original while giving the series a good polish.

During the golden era of action RPGs, FATE stood out as a powerhouse, earning the runner-up spot for PC Magazine’s Role-Playing Game of the Year award. Its popularity led to the creation of three sequels, making it one of the premier dungeon crawlers of its time. Now, a new generation of players can enter the legendary town of Grove and experience the original games like never before!

Aerosmith have retired from touring

Beloved rock band Aerosmith will no longer be on the road.

Announced today, the band have decided to retire from touring as a result of Steven Tyler’s vocal injury. Their rescheduled farewell tour has been cancelled as well; the trek was originally set to take place last fall but was postponed after a few dates.

A statement from the band reads:

It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history.

It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.

We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage.

We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.

*For those who purchased their tickets through Ticketmaster, you will automatically be refunded – there is nothing further you need to do. For those who purchased via third-party resale sites such as SeatGeek, StubHub, VividSeats, etc. – please reach out to your point of purchase for more details*

To celebrate the announcement, the band revealed the live version of “Aftermath," which can be heard here. Vocalist/keyboardist James Spence said this about the song, which was originally released on the band’s 2018 studio album Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It:

“Since its release, this song has been an audience favourite along with a rare opportunity for a sing-along. Our band has always been about stark contrasts, and this is a perfect example of that.”

Live at The Electric Ballroom tracklisting:

2. Cloaked

3. To Resist Forgetting

4. Labyrinthine

5. Rituals

6. Prelude III (Phantoms)

Predictions for SummerSlam 2024

Tomorrow (August 3), SummerSlam will make its return to Cleveland at the Cleveland Browns Stadium for a seven-match extravaganza hosted by local hero The Miz. The last time SummerSlam arrived in Cleveland, fans were introduced to the first-ever Boiler Room Brawl between Mankind and The Undertaker.

This year, the PLE will keep fans glued to their seat with some heated rivalries, including one highly anticipated match between two former world champions. We give our predictions for who’ll walk away victorious at the event. SummerSlam can be streamed on Peacock starting at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST.

Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Zayn's title run has been beneficial towards the evolution of Chad Gable, and it's doing the same for Bron Breakker, who's been looking for their first-ever title on the main roster. Breakker will win the championship so Zayn can focus on the inevitable reunion with The OG Bloodline.

Winner: Bron Breakker

Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight for the WWE United States Championship

LA Knight is someone many wanted to hold championship gold since ditching the Max Dupri gimmick. Unfortunately, the wrestler found themselves on the losing end of Money In The Bank and somehow did not appear at WrestleMania in Los Angeles. Logan Paul's U.S. Championship reign is akin to Brock Lesnar's champion runs; in their 270 days as champion, Paul has only defended it twice. We're banking on Knight to win the title and bring some prestige back to the beloved title.

Winner: L.A. Knight

Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax for the WWE Women's Championship

Bayley and Nia Jax have a storied history dating back to their time on NXT, and on Sunday, the two will add another chapter to their long rivalry. We're expecting Bayley to retain the title to set up a rematch at the next PLE where Nia Jax will win their first women's championship in six years.

Winner: Bayley

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship

Liv Morgan's twisted love story with Dominik Mysterio has been the talk of Raw for months, and Rhea Ripley has had enough of it. Like everyone else, we're expecting Mysterio to cost Ripley the match and turn on them.

Winner: Liv Morgan

Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther for World Heavyweight Championship

Since being world champion, Priest has had successful title defenses, but they all came from interferences from the Judgment Day and CM Punk. Gunther is coming fresh from having the longest Intercontinental Championship reign of all time at 666 days, and they're looking to obtain the world title for another long reign. A Priest face turn is inevitable, but will they have their hand raised at the end of the match? We're guessing Priest will retain leading to a feud with Finn Balor amid the Judgment Day collapsing.

Winner: Damien Priest

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre (w/Seth Rollins as the guest referee)

We've been waiting for this match for months, and we're expecting it to be an explosive one with the addition of Seth Rollins at the guest referee. This match can go either way as we expect the three wrestlers to tangle with each other through WrestleMania. We’re giving it to Punk just to watch McIntyre suffer a bit longer.

Winner: CM Punk

Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Cody vs Solo will be a hot one with The Bloodline 2.0 looking to scare off the champion with the numbers game. Roman Reigns will return to cost Solo the championship and begin setting up the inevitable War Games match. For Rhodes, they'll probably wind up in a feud with Randy Orton for the belt. While face Orton has been fun to watch, heel Orton is what the fans want.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

Beautiful Machines release new single "Angelica"

Germany by-way-of San Francisco electronic rock band Beautiful Machines have delivered their new single “Angelica” today.

Clocking in at nearly seven-and-a-half minutes, the lush song (listen to it here) follows an AI being named Angelica and their journey through our world. The new song was crafted in 2021 in Kathmandu, Nepal and has been a staple at various live performances. The band said this about making the song:

"Finishing this track in Kathmandu was surreal. Amidst the rubble, we found an incredible connection to something bigger—a sense of unity and transcendence that aligns perfectly with the song's thematic exploration of consciousness. It felt like the universe itself was a part of the production process.”

"Angelica,” which is out on digital services right now, stems from Beautiful Machines’ forthcoming album Singularity. The record features previously released singles “Control,” and “Baum Baum.”

Midsummer Scream 2024 in Long Beach (photos, review)

Photo credit: Terrance Pryor/MP3s and NPCs

Despite taking place during a certain comic book convention, Halloween/horror convention Midsummer Scream still managed to pack the Long Beach Convention Center this past weekend with over 50,000 attendees of all ages.

The Showfloor Stage featured a plethora of live shows for those looking for some entertainment at the sold-out convention. Those interested in theatrical performances were delighted by an excerpt scene from Sweet Sorrow, a Zombie Ballet, which will make its return this October to the Lanterman Auditorium in Flintridge (tickets can be purchased here). Those looking for live music were astonished by Selene Serene - The Queen of Halloween, who brought a nifty magic trick alongside their performance of "Summon Me." The annual Poltergeists and Paramours Fashion Show also took over the stage with a showcase of new attire alongside some performances from their dance crew.

When attendees weren't checking out the live entertainment, they made their way to the Hall of Shadows. This dark area offered a slew of attractions, including the Haunted Car Wash, Pizza Planet Truck & Art's Sideshow, and The Haunt With No Name. Attendees had to look over their shoulders, though, as random costumed individuals gave them a surprise shriek when they least expected it. The exhibit hall brought a slew of vendors selling goods, including Crafty Geek Girls, Insane Haunt Productions, and Rattlehead Crafts.

Our photos from this year's event can be seen below. More information about Midsummer Scream can be found here.

Urban Heat had El Rey Theatre dancing (review)

"Ya'll wanna hear some songs about depression?," asked Urban Heat vocalist Jonathan Horstmann during the band's packed show at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre on Saturday night. Originally slated to take place at The Roxy, the show was upgraded to the venue located in the Miracle Mile. Saturday's performance also made it one of Urban Heat's biggest headlining shows to date.

While Urban Heat's new studio album The Tower arrives on August 16 via Artoffact Records (pre-orders can be made here), vinyl copies were available at the show, and several attendees waved their copies gleefully when the new album was mentioned. A handful of unreleased songs from the record landed on the setlist, including album opener "Take It To Your Grave" and "Savor Not the Thrill."

Regarding their live setup, Urban Heat members Kevin Naquin and Paxel Foley play double duty at times with the synthesizers and their own selected member of the guitar family; Foley handles the bass while Naquin rocks a regular guitar. On a few occasions, all three members grabbed their stringed instruments, including one raucous guitar clash at the end of "Blindfolds And Magic Bullets" from their forthcoming album.

While Horstmann grabbed the guitar every now and then, the vocalist managed to light up the stage with simply a microphone in their possession. "Your operating table needs a sanitizer hit," the singer stated during "Sanitizer" while wearing gloves like a surgeon. During the last few moments of "A Simple Love Song," Horstmann pretended to be the new conductor for the Los Angeles Philharmonic as they waved their microphone around as the crowd chanted "But the world keeps falling apart" while "Right Time Of Night" found the singer auditioning for the Lakers with some wild vertical leaps.

Upon the opening chords of their cover of Q Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses," the Los Angeles crowd shrieked in excitement. Over 30 years after becoming a part of horror history via The Silence of the Lambs, the beloved synth-pop tune still finds its way into the public eye. As Horstmann crooned, members of the audience waved their phones around while one individual swayed their cowboy hat in delight.

One highlight of the set came courtesy of "That Gun In Your Hand" from Urban Heat's 2022 studio album Wellness. Drenched in moody synths, the song deals with the ever-growing issue of gun violence. As the crowd softly swayed from side to side, Horstmann pleaded "Let's put our guns on the ground."

For the encore, Urban Heat rolled out "Seven Safe Places," which dives into the uncertain longevity of our own safe spaces. With the final song "Have You Ever?," Horstmann gave the dancy Los Angeles audience one last time to belt out resounding melodies inside of the nearly 90-year-old venue.

Urban Heat’s North American tour continues through October. Tour dates and tickets can be found here.

King Diamond announce 2024 North American tour

King Diamond will make their return to North America this fall.

Announced today, the trek will kick off on October 15 at Boeing Center At Tech Port in San Antonio, and it’ll conclude on December 6 at The Factory In Deep Ellum in Dallas. For this tour, King Diamond will bring Overkill and Night Demon as special guests.

Another guest for the trek is Myrkur, who will provide backing vocals for King Diamond’s live set. King Diamond said this about their forthcoming tour and contributions from Myrkur:

“This is Saint Lucifer's Hospital, enter if you dare! We have been busy putting this ever-growing horror story together, and it's still growing. I know the end of it, but how we will get there will be a long trip. There are so many characters, and so many unexpected things along this journey. It's a crazy family on another timeline in 1920, where I experienced some hard times, and they have to come to our time to steal from us to survive. This is the most elaborate thing we have ever done, that goes for the stage production as well.

There will be additional backing vocals by Myrkur and she'll be playing organ for songs that need it. There will be some horrific surprises taking place on stage, but we are not to be held responsible since we are on a whole different timeline in 1920. It was back at the time when medicine was going through a dark period with lots of testing on human beings in order to progress medicine. This is Saint Lucifer's Hospital, also known as The Institute, enter if you dare!”

Tour dates can be seen below. Pre-sale tickets will go live tomorrow (July 31) at 10 a.m. EST/7 a.m. PST. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday (August 2) at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets can be purchased here.

King Diamond’s new studio album The Institute is slated for a 2025 release. This will follow the band’s 2007 studio album Give Me Your Soul...Please, which earned the band their first Grammy nomination. Overkill will be supporting their recent album Scorched while Night Demon will be plugging their latest record Outsider.

Gouge Away unveil “No Release” music video

Florida hardcore band Gouge Away delivered the visual for their tune “No Release” yesterday.

The band said this about the visual, which can be seen here:

"Our friend, Clara Griot, came out to our recent show in Paris with Teenage Wrist and Angel Dust. She filmed and edited a mini-doc of our day there, using behind-the-scenes and live footage from the show. It came out so cool, we asked if she could use the show footage to make a music video for our song, No Release. She did such an amazing job. It's extra cool because the show was so fun and now we'll always have this video to look back at it."

Gouge Away will be back on the road this November with a West Coast trek with Initiate and Cold Gawd followed by a trek across Brazil alongside Joyce Manor. The band said this about their forthcoming trek on the West Coast:

"We're really looking forward to this tour. We've been trying to get something together with Initiate for years, and COLD GAWD are a great band full of new friends. It's exciting to bring bands together who we not only respect musically, but who we're excited to hang out with as well."

Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets for most shows are on sale to the general public right now here. Tickets for the Los Angeles and San Francisco shows will go on sale this Friday (August 2) at 10 a.m. PST. Gouge Away will be promoting their new studio album Deep Sage, which was released back in March via Deathwish.

DAN DA DAN lead English voice actors announced, headed to Anime NYC

The English lead actors for the forthcoming DAN DA DAN anime was revealed yesterday.

Abby Trott, who is best known for their work in Demon Slayer, ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead, and Hunter X Hunter, will lend their voice to Momo. Trott said this about their forthcoming role:

“You are not ready for DAN DA DAN. As soon as I saw a clip of Science SARU’s immaculate animation, I knew this was something special. This show is absolutely electric. It’s hilarious, disturbing, beautiful, weird, dramatic, and raw - and I’m so excited to be voicing Momo in the animated telling of this EPIC manga! Ready or not…”

AJ Beckles, who is best known their work in Bleach, Bungo Stray Dogs, and Beyblade X, will portray Okarun. Beckles said this about being on the show:

“Getting to be a part of DAN DA DAN in any way is a dream come true. I’ve been a fan of the manga for a couple of years now. Hanae-san is an incredible actor! The honor of actually being able to play his counterpart as Okarun in the dub was something I never could have imagined being granted to me!

Tatsu-san is a master of his craft, and I truly think this is one of those roles/stories that only comes around only once or twice in someone's life and I am treating it with the utmost respect and care because of that. I can’t wait to show everyone my take on this Awkward fellow, and I want to assure every fan that’s been waiting for this adaptation that they have nothing at all to worry about. This will be a masterpiece!”

Trott and Beckles will appear at the English dub premiere screening of DAN DA DAN at Anime NYC on Saturday, August 24. They’ll be joined by Momo and Okarun’s respective Japanese voice actors Shion Wakayama and Natsuki Hanae, composer Kensuke Ushio, and MBS producer Hiroyuki Aoi. More information about Anime NYC can be found here.

On September 13, fans in North America will be able to catch the first three episodes of the anime series via the theatrical release of DAN DA DAN: First Encounter via GKIDS. More information about the theatrical release can be found here. DAN DA DAN will premiere this October.

A synopsis for DAN DA DAN reads:

DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult freak. The two of them start talking after Momo rescues Okarun from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them – Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts.

To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings, and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces! Their fateful love begins as well!?

Attention #DANDADAN fans, say hello to the new stars of the English dub—Abby Trott (@abbytrott) as Momo and A.J. Beckles (@AJBecklesVO) as Okarun! 👻🛸 pic.twitter.com/OgISyBPG7v
