Space Ape shuts down its nine-year-old RTS Rival Kingdoms

Space Ape has shut down Rival Kingdoms, saying it had been "a privilege" to have run the RTS game penned by Rhianna Pratchett for almost a decade.

The developer said it had no plans to sell or transfer the mobile game to another company, revive it, develop a sequel, or permit players to play the game on private servers.

Whilst the developer stopped short of revealing why it had decided to shutter the game, a statement posted on its website said, "all games have a life cycle, and Rival Kingdoms is no exception."

LittleBigPlanet3's servers will remain "offline indefinitely"

Sony has confirmed LittleBigPlanet 3's servers will remain "offline indefinitely".

The servers were taken down in January, although it was hoped at the time that it would be a "temporary" situation.

Now, however, "ongoing technical issues" mean the servers will not be coming back online and all online services – including access to other players' creations – "are no longer available".

Saltsea Chronicles and Mutazione studio Die Gute Fabrik is closing its doors due to lack of funding

2024 continues its efforts to be the worst year in my memory, as delightful indie development studio Die Gute Fabrik have halted work. The studio, notable for its lovely story-driven games about forging personal connections in strange or difficult worlds - e.g. Mutazione and the more recent Saltsea Chronicles - was unable to find funding for its new project, after a year of searching, so is shutting up work. All of the staff, including the leadership team, will be looking for new work come mid-march.
