MultiVersus is a Smash Bros. clone that feels like a smartphone game, spoiled by its monetisation

MultiVersus has only been fully launched a week, but already there's an oasis of leaks - and player excitement - mapping out much of what's already set to arrive in the game next. Warner Bros' free-to-play platform fighter is designed as a nexus point for characters and franchises to come together and beat each other up, Super Smash Bros. style, with a rotating roster of unlocked combatants that changes every 24 hours. And it's this growing roster of famous faces that is clearly designed to be its star.

As someone who plays Fortnite on the daily, the concept of a live-service game sustained by a conveyor belt of crossover content is nothing new - and countless games are doing it. From Call of Duty: Warzone to Fall Guys mobile rip-off Stumble Guys, everyone is inviting Snoop Dogg or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to their party. Smash Bros. itself gave up being Nintendo-centric years ago, with Ultimate hosting everyone from Fallout's Vault Boy to Minecraft's Steve.

In MultiVersus, there's the expected representation from Warner Bros.' own stable of game franchises, with a base roster that bares striking resemblence to the publisher's previous multiverse effort Lego Dimensions - its enjoyable toys-to-life project that was sadly wound down before its time. There's plenty of faces from the DC Universe, Scooby-Doo, Adventure Time and Gremlins, then, with more likely to follow, alongside cartoon favourites such as the Looney Tunes gang, Tom & Jerry, plus Rick and Morty.

Why Iron Giant was Removed from MultiVersus

Why Iron Giant was Removed from MultiVersus - Main Image

MultiVersus character Iron Giant has been removed from the game temporarily, being taken out of players' active roster, and removed from the game shop, with most fans wondering why.

According to an official statement from MultiVersus, this was done to resolve some issues with the character, and they are working hard to bring him back as soon as possible.

Why Iron Giant was Removed from MultiVersus

The truth is, Iron Giant was temporarily removed from MultiVersus because the character was extremely overpowered, and the combos were pretty easy to execute.

Iron Giant was too fast for how tall and heavy he was, which meant there was no counter-play for him. Smaller characters, which in theory should be able to counter his power with their quickness couldn't do so.

So not only were his normal attacks extremely strong, which is natural since Iron Giant is a tank character, but his speed was off the charts, and his special moves were too easy to hit.

To make up for the temporary removal of Iron Giant, MultiVersus added Garnet to the preview rotation.

Iron Giant is now undergoing maintenance, and we expect the character to be much more balanced when it comes back. Hopefully, Iron Giant will be back in the MultiVersus active roster sooner rather than later.

Which MultiVersus Character Is the Best?

Which MultiVersus Character Is the Best

Now that MultiVersus launched and we’ve had a chance to get comfortable, it’s time to talk about the characters we like the best. The game has its issues, for sure. But there’s also some fun to be had if you can deal with quirks like finding lives up for sale that is apparently a “bug.” Let’s talk about our mains.

Sadly, I found MultiVersus to be Very Bad and dropped it after about a day of playing around with the beta. However, if I must pick a character I had some enjoyment out of, it's easily Bugs Bunny. I've always been a Looney Tunes nerd since I was a kid and that trickster god of a rabbit is my favorite cartoon character of all time. And despite the problems I had with the game overall, I did feel he was represented well. He had all the Acme props you'd expect plus a sneaky burrow move which you could mess with other players with. If the relaunch improves the game, he would be a strong candidate for a personal main. — Leigh

I also didn’t stick with MultiVersus, so my opinion may not be the best for those looking for a character to pick. I really liked Wonder Woman! She’s always been one of my favorite DC heroes and she’s easy enough to get. She’s a Tank type fighter, so it meant I didn’t have to worry about being defeated too quickly before I figured things out. Plus I really found her Sword of Ares and Amazon Shout attacks. — Jenni

MultiVersus is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

MultiVersus relaunch comes with character restrictions, and people aren't happy

MultiVersus welcomed over 100,000 Steam brawlers on its relaunch, but new character restrictions have left a bad taste in the mouth of players.

The multi-franchise Warner Bros. fighter re-released last night across PC, Xbox and PlayStation, following the end of its open beta last year. On Steam, it recorded a concurrent player peak of 114,515 in the last 24 hours.

However, despite some fairly impressive numbers, the free-to-play brawler has come under fire from the community for a number of reasons, with the main issue being new character restrictions.

MultiVersus developer in "arms race" to prevent datamining

The developer of MultiVersus has gone "above and beyond" to ensure the game is protected from dataminers.

The free-to-play fighter is out next week and includes villains like The Joker and Agent Smith from The Matrix, both of which were rumoured long before their reveals.

Now, it seems the developer has put stronger defences in place to protect the game from future dataminers, though there's no guarantee there won't be further leaks.

How to get Fighter Currency in MultiVersus

How to get Fighter Currency in MultiVersus - Main Image

MultiVersus has a plethora of characters, unfortunately, most of them are locked, and the only free way to unlock them is by using Fighter Currency. However, earning Fighter Currency is easier said than done.

Many players have been wondering how to get Fighter Currency and use it to unlock their favorite MultiVersus characters. Luckily for you, we have the answer to that question.

How to get Fighter Currency in MultiVersus

There are four ways to get Fighter Currency in MultiVersus, and they are the following:

Leveling up fighters
Completing daily challenges and missions
Completing the Rits events
Progressing through the Battle Pass

Leveling up your fighters is arguably the easiest thing to do, but you only get 600 Fighter Currency for character, and you need 3K Fighter Currency to unlock a character.

So you will need to completely level up five characters in order to have enough Fighter Currency to unlock a new character, which can take quite some time.

Completing daily challenges and missions is also a great way to earn Fighter Currency, especially because the missions refresh every 24 hours. Make sure you go to the missions tab and prioritize the missions that reward you with Fighter Currency.

The Rifts events are also a good way to earn Fighter Currency. As you defeat the bosses, and progress in the event, you will earn a lot of Fighter Currency. There are also multiple Rifts events, which means more chances to earn Fighter Currency.

You can complete the events in five different difficulties, and in all of them, you will earn Fighter Currency. If you wanted an offline mode where you could grind for Fighter Currency, then Rifts is perfect for you.

Progressing through the MultiVersus Battle Pass will also help you earn Fighter Currency. However, you need to buy the Battle Pass if you want to have access to all of its rewards.

So if you are looking for a free way to earn Fighter Currency, we advise you to stick to the three other ways mentioned above.

How to Parry in MultiVersus

How to Parry in MultiVersus - Main Image

How To Parry In MultiVersus is one question many players have been asking. Parry is a very important mechanic in fighting games, and mastering it will take your game to the next level.

If you want to compete against the best of the best or be considered the best MultiVersus player in your friend's group, then you need to understand how to parry.

How to Parry in MultiVersus

To parry in MultiVersus you have to dodge your opponent's attack just when his attack is about to hit you.

You can do this by clicking on the dodge button, which is set as default on B or O, for the Xbox and PlayStation platforms respectively.

However, this can vary from player to player, as some users prefer to have their dodge ability assigned to another button.

A successful parry will stun your opponent, allowing you to counter with a chain of normal attacks or a special attack. You can also use it to set up your ally, performing some spectacular double-team combos.

To master the art of parrying, we suggest you make your way to the MultiVersus practice mode and just parry away. We also advise you to choose easier characters to train the parry mechanic.

Like for all things in life, practice makes perfect, and you will need to practice a lot until you master parrying in MultiVersus.

How to Unlock Agent Smith in MultiVersus

How to Unlock Agent Smith in MultiVersus - Main Image

Players are wondering how to unlock Agent Smith in Multiversus, as the Matrix movie character is one of the most popular in the game.

Despite the many MultiVersus characters, it seems everyone just wants to get their hands on Agent Smith.

However, this might prove trickier than expected, as you can't unlock Agent Smith by using the traditional MultiVersus character unlock method.

How to Unlock Agent Smith in MultiVersus

To unlock Agent Smith in MultiVersus, players need to complete the Rift missions, more specifically, beating the Rift bosses. This sounds straightforward, but there is a catch.

Beating Rift bosses is the only thing that gets you closer to unlocking Agent Smith, as the other missions don't help you progress in the Agent Smith event.

However, you can't repeat boss fights, and from the five Rifts missions, only two are available, with the other three being locked. One will arrive at the game on 2 June, but we don't know when the other two will come to MultiVersus.

So, as of right now, it's impossible to unlock Agent Smith. The best you can do is defeat the available Rift bosses and wait for the other Rift missions to unlock.

You can also choose to wait for the release of Agent Smith, which there still isn't any official information about, and purchase the character with either Gleamium or Figther currency.

How to Unlock All Characters in MultiVersus

How to Unlock All Characters in MultiVersus - Main Image

MultiVersus is one of the most popular fighting games in the market, and it has a plethora of unique characters. So, many players are wondering how to unlock all the characters in MultiVersus.

Every character has its class and unique special attack, and they all excel at different things, even those that belong to the same class. So it's important to unlock all the characters and find which one suits your playstyle better.

How to Unlock All Characters in MultiVersus

Currently, there are 26 characters in MultiVersus, and most of them can be unlocked by following these steps:

Go to the Fighters Tab
Select the fighter you want to unlock
Click on the Purchase Fighter option.
Use either the Gleamium or Figther currency to purchase that character.

This is quite simple and also fast. To earn the Figther currency, you will need to complete missions, challenges, and matches.

When it comes to Gleamium, you can only buy it at the MultiVersus currency store, which means you need to spend money on the game.

However, this allows you to instantly unlock the character you want without having to grind the game.

This method can be used to unlock the following characters:

Joker
Shaggy
Reindog
Steven Universe
Garnet
Arya Stark
Harley Quinn
Taz
Finn
Wonder Woman
Jake
Batman
Superman
Bugs Bunny
Tom & Jerry
Velma
Iron Giant
LeBron James
Morty
Rick
Gizmo
Black Adam
Stripe
Marvin the Martian

How to Unlock Exclusive Characters

When it comes to the remaining two characters, Banana Guard, and Jason Voorhees, they both have two distinct and unique ways to be unlocked.

To unlock Banana Guard you will need to log in to the game in two consecutive days.

As for Jason, if you want to unlock the iconic Friday 13th villain, you will need to acquire the MultiVersus Season 1 Battle Pass. The tank character is the first reward of the Season 1 Battle Pass, so you will unlock him as soon as you acquire the Battle Pass.

How to Unlock Banana Guard in MultiVersus

How to Unlock Banana Guard in MultiVersus - Main Image

Banana Guard, from the famous fantasy TV show Adventure Time, is one of the most popular MultiVersus characters. So, it's only normal that many players want to know how to unlock the character.

However, unlocking Banana Guard is different than unlocking any other MultiVersus character. That's because you can't simply purchase the character with in-game currency.

How to Unlock Banana Guard in MultiVersus

To unlock Banana Guard in MultiVersus you just need to log in to the game in two separate days.

If you maintain your log-in streak for seven straight days, you will also earn the Lady Banana Guard variant. You will also earn other rewards if you log in daily, but those still haven't been revealed.

You can collect these, and many other rewards, in the "Missions" tab, which you can access from the main menu.

Banana Guard is a bruiser-type character, that is quite easy to learn, as it's even recommended for new players. Bruisers excel at close combat, chaining multiple normal attacks to put opponents on the back foot.

Most bruisers also have an easier time combining their normal attacks with their specials. So Banana Guard is definitely a character you should try out.

Mark Hamill's Joker is back for MultiVersus

MultiVersus is set to make its return later this month, and - as previously rumoured - Mark Hamill's Joker will be joining the line up.

The news of Joker's upcoming MultiVersus debut comes with a reveal trailer, titled "Get a Load of Me". It all begins with Batman - voiced by the late Kevin Conroy - striding purposefully through an underground cavern-like area as green smoke billows around him. Other MultiVersus characters, such as Bugs Bunny and Arya Stark (I still find the whole line up quite bizarre) are also here, and look a little worse for wear. What, or who, could be doing this?

Of course, it's The Joker at the root of all this chaos. "Oh Batman, we have got to stop meeting like this," he teases with a laugh, before emerging from the smoke. You can check it out for yourself in the video below.

Na soupisce hratelných hrdinů najdete nejrůznější postavičky z DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network, Game of Thrones, Tom & Jerry, Gremlins, Rick & Morty a The Iron Giant.

Is MultiVersus Free-to-Play - Main Image

MultiVersus is an upcoming platform fighting game developed by Player First Games. It features iconic characters owned by Warner Bros. going head-to-head, but before jumping in, you may be wondering if it is free-to-play.

There aren’t many games that will see famous characters like Superman trying to take on Shaggy from Scooby Doo, but if you do want that, then this is no doubt the game for you. Considering how long it has been since the last Super Smash Bros released, Multiversus will scratch an itch for many. The game had a lengthy Beta period. By now, it’s finally released in full and will soon be available to play.

Is MultiVersus Free?

The good news is that MultiVersus is a free game. Once it releases, you can download it from your store of choice, and you’re good to go. If you want to spend money on the game, though, there are still some microtransactions to help unlock characters, Battle Passes, and more.

Let us know in the comments below if you’re jumping into Multiversus and what characters you're looking forward to using.

MultiVersus social media comes back to life suggesting relaunch news soon

Eight months after Warner Bros.' platform-brawler MultiVersus went dark, following an announcement its open beta would be shutting down until a return sometime in 2024, its social media account has sprung back to live, teasing an update announcement soon.

MultiVersus launched into Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC open beta back in July 2022, and got off to a flying start - ratcheting up over 10m players in the space of a month. However, its player numbers rapidly dwindled and by the time developer Play First Games pulled the game offline last June, its Steam concurrent player count had fallen from a high of 153,000 to just 448.

As to when MultiVersus would be likely to return, that remained vague, with Play First Games only saying it expected servers to come back online sometime in "early 2024". And it's proven to be a particularly controversial period of downtime, not only for its length but because Warner Bros. refused to refund players for any packs, passes, premium currency bundles, or cosmetics they'd purchased across MutliVersus' nearly year-long, multi-season open beta, insisting all purchased items would be usable again once the game returned.
