Civilization VII Release Date and Gameplay Revealed

Civilization VII gameplay trailer reveals release date in February 2025

2K and Firaxis have revealed more information about Sid Meier's Civilization VII at gamescom 2024. After first publishing a teaser trailer at Summer Game Fest 2024, the companies revealed the release date and gameplay details for the new game at the European gaming event.

A new trailer for Civilization VII appeared first during the gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live stream. It showed a quick montage of in-engine footage, including buildings from various civilizations and units from different ages. The main highlight of this trailer was the release date announcement.

The new game will be available on February 11, 2025. While prior entries used to appear first on PCs with consoles like Nintendo Switch getting them later on, this trailer's ending segment hints that Civilization VII will be available simultaneously on not only PCs but also the PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox platforms.

Soon after that, Firaxis held an official gameplay showcase stream dedicated to the game on the series' official YouTube channel. The new game will have civilizations tied to each of the three different eras, and the leader character the player chooses is no longer tied to their original civilization.

For example, while Hatshepsut is originally related to Egypt, the player can choose to have her lead the Aksum civilization instead in the Antiquity Age. As the game progresses in age, the player will have to choose a different civilization for Hatshepsut to lead, such as Songhai or Mongolia in the Exploration Age, and Buganda in the Modern Age.

2K has also updated the game's Steam page with additional bonus editions that provide both in-game content at launch and post-launch DLC that 2K will release in the future. People who have pre-purchased any edition of the game—including the standard version before release—can get the native American civilization Shawnee and Tecumseh as a playable leader.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be available for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One on February 11, 2025.

Fairy Tail Indie Game Guild Will Bring New Games to PC

Fairy Tail Dungeons - official indie games coming to PC Steam

Kodansha announced that it has established the Fairy Tail Indie Game Guild project. It will use this guild to help independent game creators release games themed after Hiro Mashima's manga series of the same title.

The company also revealed the first two games that will be part of the project. It will release both titles on PC via Steam worldwide in seven languages: Japanese, English, French, Korean, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

Fairy Tail: Dungeons will be the first game in this project. It will feature a rogue-lite gameplay system where the player will collect magic cards based on attacks from the series' characters and construct a deck with them for the chosen character to fight monsters inside the dungeon. This game will be available on August 27, 2024 in Japan, South Korea, Eastern Australia, and New Zealand, or August 26, 2024 for the rest of the world.

The second game in the project will be Fairy Tail: Beach Volleyball Havoc. As the title suggests, this game will feature casual beach volleyball matches between Fairy Tail characters with additional special magic effects. Kodansha will release this game simultaneously worldwide on September 16 or 17, 2024, depending on the time zone.

The Fairy Tail series already has an official RPG for PC and consoles developed by Koei Tecmo's Gust, and the same studio is working on its sequel that will appear in Winter 2024. The new indie titles will further complement the lineup of games based on the franchise. In the Japanese press release, Kadokawa added that it will release Fairy Tail: Birth of Magic, a versus game with original magic creation system, as the third indie title.

Fairy Tail: Dungeons will appear first on August 26 or 27, 2024, and Fairy Tail: Beach Volleyball Havoc will follow on September 16 or 17, 2024. Both Fairy Tail indie games will be available worldwide digitally on PC via Steam.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Japanese PC Release Confirmed

Raditz in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero which is confirmed getting Japanese PC release simultaneously worldwide

Bandai Namco has announced the Japanese release dates for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. The game will appear in the country on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 10, 2024—a day earlier than the global release date announced at Summer Game Fest. However, the company also newly confirmed that Japanese PC players will be able to get Sparking Zero via Steam on October 11, 2024.

The latter revelation is massive in Japan because it marks a shift in Bandai Namco's policy of determining the release platforms for its games in the country. PC players in Japan have long criticized Bandai Namco and other prominent Japanese game companies for omitting PC releases of their games in their own country, even when the games are readily available to the rest of the world. This phenomenon is also known as "OmaKuni," which is short for "We are not selling this in your country."

In recent months, Bandai Namco has been taking steps to fix that discrepancy. In May 2024, it just made the Steam releases of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, FighterZ, and Xenoverse 2 available for purchase in Japan. While Sparking Zero will be available to Japanese PC players simultaneously with the rest of the world, the above games used to be unavailable in the country for a long time. However, not all Dragon Ball games on Steam have been made available, as Japanese players still cannot access the first Xenoverse and Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission as of June 2024.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will appear first in Japan on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 10, 2024. The global release date that includes the PC version will fall on October 11, 2024. The latter release on Steam will also be available in Japan on the same day.

Capcom Will Promote Steam Deck With Street Fighter 6 in Japan

Capcom to promote Street Fighter 6 demos on Steam Deck in Japan

Capcom has announced that it will set up demo booths in its select amusement centers across Japan that let the public try out Street Fighter 6 on the Steam Deck. The company also noted that the booths will only be available for a limited time. But while the booths will appear on June 1, 2024, Capcom did not specify the closing date.

Here are the six outlets that will offer public Steam Deck demo booths, along with their opening and closing times:

  1. Capcom Store Osaka at Shinsaibashi Parco (10am to 8pm JST)
  2. Plaza Capcom Ikebukuro at Grandscape Ikebukuro (10am to 11pm JST)
  3. Plaza Capcom Shitoro at Aeon Mall Hamamatsu Shitoro in Shizuoka Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)
  4. Plaza Capcom Hiroshima at The Outlets Hiroshima (10am to 10pm JST)
  5. Amuse Factory Tokoname at Aeon Mall Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)
  6. Miraino Aeon Mall Hakusan in Ishikawa Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)

Capcom's Steam Deck demo booths will also contribute to raising awareness of Steam as a gaming platform in Japan. As a reminder, the Steam Deck has been formally available for purchase in Japan and other East Asian countries and territories since late 2022.

Other Japanese game companies have also been reconsidering the releases of their titles on the platform. For instance, Bandai Namco just made the Steam versions of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Xenoverse 2, and FighterZ purchasable in Japan in late May 2024, even though those games have been long available elsewhere worldwide.

Street Fighter 6 is readily available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and arcades. The PC version that has come out on Steam is also playable on the Steam Deck.

Dynasty Warriors Origins Heads To Xbox & PC With New Producer

Dynasty Warriors Origins heads to PS5 Xbox Series X and PC with Tomohiko Sho as producer

Shortly after revealing Dynasty Warriors: Origins at the May 2024 State of Play, Koei Tecmo confirmed that the game will also be available on the Xbox Series X and PC via Steam in addition to the PlayStation 5. However, it turns out that the series' longtime producer Akihiro Suzuki is not leading the game's development. The company revealed that Tomohiko Sho, who is also the current head of the Omega Force brand studio, is the producer of Dynasty Warriors: Origins.

Tomohiko Sho had been involved in the Dynasty Warriors franchise since the original fighting game came out on PlayStation in 1997. He was also involved in Dynasty Warriors 2 through 5, mostly as a planner.

The highest position Sho managed to achieve in the series before Origins was as the director in Dynasty Warriors 6 and the PS Vita entry NEXT. In more recent years, he worked as the producer for Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate in 2019, Touken Ranbu Warriors in 2022, and Fate/Samurai Remnant in 2023.

The new producer appointment, along with a new logo change for Omega-Force, show a drastic change in the brand studio's organizational structure in the development of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Akihiro Suzuki has been regularly assuming the producer spot for the mainline numbered entries, including Dynasty Warriors 9 and its Empires spin-off. However, in recent months, the producer has been shifting his focus towards the mobile game that has been running in Japan since 2021.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2025.

Code Geass Lelouch Zero and Kallen character avatars in Phantasy Star Online 2 PSO2 New Genesis

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will offer new crossover avatar parts based on characters from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. Players can now check out how the characters will look like after Sega revealed the upcoming in-game content at the May 2024 NGS Headline program. Existing players of PSO2: New Genesis will be able to get the parts from the Code Geass Style scratch ticket that launches on June 19, 2024.

As announced previously in late April 2024, the crossover scratch ticket will primarily feature avatar parts based on Lelouch, C.C., Kallen, and Suzaku. Other than outfits and facial parts, the lineup will include voice sets for each character, with their original Japanese voice actors returning to provide the lines. Players who pull an adequate amount of tries in this scratch can also get the Code Geass track "Previous Notice" as an in-game music disc.

Sega stops short of producing the Knightmare Frames as CAST parts for mechanical avatars, but it will still release some parts based on the units. The list will include weapons like Super VARIS, movement motions inspired by Suzaku's Lancelot, and miniaturized Mag Forms based on Shinkiro, Guren SEITEN, and Lancelot Albion.

In addition to the above, Sega will also give away acrylic stands of Lelouch, C.C., Kallen, and Suzaku to all players who log into the game regularly daily during the collaboration period.

Classic Visual Novel Kanon Will Appear on Steam

Visual Novel Kanon coming to Steam with English subtitle support

Visual Arts and Prototype announced that they will release the classic PC visual novel Kanon on Steam. The Japanese companies have also published a Steam page for the title.

The visual novel will be available with Japanese voiceovers and subtitles in Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. The Steam version will feature HD-remastered visuals with an almost complete voiceover. Most of the title's original voice actresses, such as Yui Horie (as Ayu Tsukimiya) and Yukari Tamura (as Mai Kawasumi), will reprise their roles. Meanwhile, Tomokazu Sugita will provide partial voiceovers for the player-controlled protagonist Yuichi Aizawa.

The Steam release does not mean it's the first time Kanon appears on PC. In fact, PC was the very first platform the visual novel appeared on, since the times when physical disc drives were still commonplace. Visual Arts first released Kanon as an R-18 title in June 1999. It then released the all-ages version for PC in January 2020, which also serves as a basis for all ports to other platforms.

Outside of PC, the visual novel was also released for the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. It has also since been made available for Android and iOS mobile devices in Japan. In April 2023, Prototype released the Nintendo Switch port of Kanon.

The visual novel Kanon is readily available on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS as ongoing platforms, and it will also be available on the PC via Steam in the near future.

A home computer version of Castlevania will be available to play on the classic computer's emulator console. Zuiki has announced that it will release the X68000 version of Castlevania on its X68000 Z mini-console on May 30, 2024. The company will bundle the game with Block Hole, a puzzle shooter game that is also known in Japan as Quarth.

Nintendo also added the Game Boy version of Castlevania Legends to its Nintendo Switch Online lineup in October 2023.

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration Delayed Again to July 2024

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration will have a new opening animation

Bliss Brain announced a second delay for Princess Maker 2 Regeneration. People who want to get the new enhanced game will now have to wait until July 11, 2024, for it to be released. The studio cited a need to further improve the game's quality as the reason for delaying the game's release.

To compensate for the second delay announcement, Bliss Brain published a new trailer that showcases the game's opening animation. A team from Yonago Gainax led by Takami Akai is working on the new animation movie. It will include many scenes taken from the gameplay, ranging from house activities to public competitions.

The new trailer is available to watch via YouTube:

https://youtu.be/sXWmqy1kooo

Bliss Brain first revealed Regeneration in August 2023. The new enhanced game will be based on Princess Maker 2 Refine, which originally appeared for PCs in 2004 and added to Steam in 2016. While Regeneration will also appear on Steam, it will make Princess Maker 2 available on the Switch, PS4, and PS5 for the first time. Takami Arai will re-draw the character illustrations to match closer to the original PC-98 release.

The studio originally planned to release Regeneration on December 21, 2023, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original PC-98 release in 1993. However, in mid-November 2023, it announced a delay to May 30, 2024, as it needed more time to improve the game's quality.

Princess Maker 2 Regeneration will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on July 11, 2024.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Character Poll Opens Worldwide

Apollo Justice Ace Attorney character popularity poll

Capcom has opened a character popularity poll for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy worldwide. People can place a vote for their top favorite character via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

To join the poll, the account owner can click the Vote button for their favorite character on the webpage. The latter will generate a tweet with specific hashtags, all of which must be retained for the vote to be counted as valid.

An account is restricted from choosing more than one character, as Capcom will nullify the account's vote otherwise. The account owner can still post tweets featuring the same character and hashtags, although Capcom will still only count a single vote from the account.

After the polls close on March 6 or 7, 2024—depending on the time zone, the Ace Attorney series art director Takuro Fuse will draw new illustrations for the top three characters. Capcom will announce the results while revealing the new illustrations on Friday, March 29, 2024.

The Japanese version of the poll webpage has an additional segment for a sweepstakes campaign that Capcom is holding exclusively in Japan. 50 lucky people who reside in Japan with a valid address and participate in the poll with the Japanese version hashtags can win merchandise that features the new illustrations of the top three ranked characters.

The Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy character popularity poll is open until Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET. The poll will also close at the same time in Japan on March 7, 2024, at 1 PM JST. The visual novel trilogy is readily available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Nekomata Okayu will be the second Hololive Vtuber to make a major appearance in Sound Voltex after Shirakami Fubuki in late 2023. Konami had actually featured Hololive content in the rhythm game since 2021 when it added songs from Houshou Marine and COOL&CREATE's album #GENSOKYOholoism. However, it did not add Marine as an unlockable navigator at that time.

Sound Voltex Exceed Gear is available on arcades and PCs via Konami Station. Nekomata Okayu's songs will be available in the rhythm game for the foreseeable future after February 22, 2024. Other content related to the Vtuber will be obtainable until March 22, 2024.

Hoshimachi Suisei Will Be in Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage

Hololive Vtuber Hoshimachi Suisei in The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage

Bandai Namco will add Hoshimachi Suisei as an idol people can produce in The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage. The Hololive Vtuber will appear in person in the game, and she can also perform with other existing idols. The collaboration event will begin on March 11, 2024.

Every player who logs into the game while the collaboration event is running can obtain a Rare-grade Hoshimachi Suisei. However, the game will also encourage them to collect gacha tickets for a special banner that features a more valuable SS Rare-grade version of the same character. The collaboration will also feature the free distribution of two animated Suisei stickers and sales of Suisei-themed room items.

Some of the existing idols in Cinderella Girls' 346 (Mishiro) Production will also join the collaboration event by performing covers of Suisei's songs. Natsuki Kimura's cover of "Soirée" will appear first on March 11, 2024. Bandai Namco has also teased three more covers that will appear in the near future.

A new trailer showcasing the Hoshimachi Suisei collaboration event is available to watch via The Idolmaster series' official YouTube channel:

Suisei also posted a tweet on her official X account, explaining how this collaboration meant a lot to her. The Idolmaster series—which first launched in 2005—served as an inspiration for the person behind the Vtuber to become a real idol. She started activities as the Vtuber Hoshimachi Suisei with a dream that she would one day join the Cinderella Girls roster. This collaboration finally made her dream come true.

The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage is available in Japan on Android, iOS, and PC via DMM Games. The new collaboration event featuring Hololive Vtuber Hoshimachi Suisei will be available from March 11, 2024, to April 10, 2024.

Even though Xiaoyu has been a mainstay character in the series since Tekken 3 in 1997, Good Smile Company will base this Nendoroid on her latest appearance in Tekken 8. It had even teased the figure in September 2023, long before Bandai Namco released the actual fighting game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in late January 2024.

Good Smile Company will close pre-orders for the Tekken 8 Ling Xiaoyu Nendoroid on April 4, 2024. It will ship the finished figures to Japan in July 2024 and North America in Q4 2024.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising: 2B DLC Will Include 2P Color

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising - 2B and 2P confirmed

NieR: Automata's 2B will appear soon in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Cygames has published a new trailer featuring her. Following on from the reveal trailer in late December 2023, this new video showcases more of the DLC character's regular and special attacks in the Arc System Works-developed 2D fighting game.

Near the end of the trailer, Cygames and Arc System Works newly confirmed that the 2P color scheme—which was originally designed for Bandai Namco's SoulCalibur VI—will also be included in the DLC character set.

The trailer also revealed a new version of NieR: Automata's theme song "Weight of the World" that will act as 2B's personal BGM in the fighting game. Tsutomu Narita arranged the song originally composed by Keiichi Okabe, with Emi Evans back on the vocals.

The new 2B trailer is available to watch via the Granblue Fantasy Versus series YouTube channel:

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is readily available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. 2B will be available as a DLC character for the fighting game on February 20, 2024.
