  • The Galaxy S24 FE has been spotted on the BIS certification website, suggesting an imminent launch in India.
  • We expect the global launch, including the US, to happen in October.

With Samsung’s top-tier flagship launches wrapped up for 2024, the company is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S24 FE. The device has been the subject of several recent leaks, shedding light on its potential specifications and color variants. Now, there’s further evidence pointing towards an impending launch.

91mobiles spotted the Galaxy S24 FE lurking on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website. The model number listed there (SM-S721B/DS) aligns perfectly with the model number that was previously leaked via Samsung’s own support page.

While the BIS listing doesn’t disclose specifics about the hardware or design, its appearance strongly indicates that the Galaxy S24 FE could soon be making its debut in India. Since Samsung usually rolls out its FE models globally, we can bet on a US launch around the same time. Current rumors suggest the Galaxy S24 FE will hit the global markets in October, so a launch event announcement and official teasers should be popping up any day now.

On the specifications front, the phone is expected to be powered by an Exynos 2400e chipset. A notable change this year could be a larger 6.7-inch screen compared to the 6.4-inch display on the Galaxy S23 FE. We’ve already seen leaked promo material and images for the phone, suggesting that it will look a lot like the regular S24 and offer at least five colors.

Cancellation Watch: House of the Dragon Rises in the Nielsen Rankings, The Ark Returns Down, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

House of the Dragon (HBO, Status: Renewed): For the first full week that the Nielsen charts measured this show’s second season, it improved to Number 2 in the list of acquired shows with an estimated 1.23 billion minutes of viewing. That is the highest viewership the show has seen thus far, surpassing the 1.02 billion mark it achieved in its first season. Not surprisingly, this one has already been renewed for a third season.

The Ark (Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): Nielsen ratings data for linear viewing has been hard to come by lately, but TVSeriesFinale.com does have the premiere ratings for this show’s second season and it posted a 0.04 score based on same-day viewing in the 18-49 demographic with 240K total viewers. That is down from its first season average of a 0.06 rating, and not a strong return for the show. I will watch how this one tracks in the coming weeks, but it could be shifting to Bubble status shortly.

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This animated sci fi comedy arrived on Prime Video with little in the way of promotion in February 2024 and did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. But apparently it was renewed in advance for a second season and work on that is already underway. Whether it will continue beyond that remains to be seen.

Beacon 23 (Syfy, Status: On the Bubble): This show had originally been a joint production by AMC and Spectrum and had been picked up for two seasons, but those two venues backed away from it before it aired. MGM+ acquired the series and has now aired the two seasons, though it received little in the way of promotion and that may have just been a burn-off run. They have not indicated whether they have an interest in carrying it into a third season and I am going to shift this one to Bubble status.

Velma (Max, Status: On the Bubble): People were surprised that this show received a second season after the first was pretty widely panned, but apparently that had been planned in advance. It did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings across its two seasons, and it currently holds only 39% on the Tomatometer scale and a 10% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. I am going to assume that a third season is unlikely, so I am moving this one to Bubble status.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

This past week brought two more cancellations with Halo getting the ax from Paramount+ and Reginald the Vampire coming to an end at Syfy. In addition, apparently a fifteenth season of Doctor Who was part of the Disney partnership with the BBC and that is in the works, and The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy was renewed for a second season in advance as mentioned above. So factoring in all of that, the current score is at 21 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (28% of shows tracked) vs. 31 renewed (42%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Show Count 74
Cancelled 15 20.3%
Ending 6 8.1% 28.4%
Renewed 31 41.9%
On the Bubble 5 6.8%
Renewal Possible 17 23.0%
Mini-Series 6

First spotted by Tarun Vats on X (formerly Twitter), it appears the upcoming One UI 7 update could introduce a built-in app locking feature. According to the screenshot, the feature would matter of factly be called App Lock.

This sweet life sim is Stardew meets Star Trek, and you can try the demo now

There aren't many ways left to put a twist on Stardew Valley, but suffixing it with "in space!" oughta do it. Little-Known Galaxy is out in a week, and currently has a demo on Steam, where you can sample many of the delights that you're used to from a Stardewlike when you're new in town: meeting the locals, growing potatoes, and tidying up the place. Also, raising alien pets, seeking out new life, and new civilisations... It all takes place on a spaceship, you see, and this has some ramifications to playing the game beyond reskinning everything to be shiny metal instead of picturesque mud. It's an intriguing proposition.

  • However, the phone is intended only for sale in China and will not be sold globally.

Samsung has a wide portfolio of smartphones, boasting phones that can serve various needs across price points. Despite the abundance of devices, Samsung has slowly unified its design language across its lineup. This is great for brand recognition but also means that devices start looking very boring. Samsung has launched an exciting new phone with a leather back and striking colors, but you can’t buy this one if you really want to.

Samsung Galaxy Book 4 360 vs Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360: Which convertible should you buy?

Samsung Galaxy Book laptops are excellent, premium professional editing and video production machines. We rated the Galaxy Book 3 Pro quite highly and ranked it as the best lightweight laptop overall. This year, Samsung has unleashed a new generation called the Galaxy Book 4 series, consisting of four models in total. But if you're looking to buy a convertible model, the best place to start would be to compare two of the convertibles in the series to see which one offers better value.

How Times & Galaxy Turns Journalism into a Game Mechanic

Summary

  • Times & Galaxy’s unique Build-A-Story feature lets players tell the story how they see it.
  • Copychaser Games’ Creative Director shares how his past as a crime reporter shaped the game’s approach to journalism.
  • Times & Galaxy is coming to Xbox in mid-2024.

Ever wanted to experience the rush of breaking news? In Times & Galaxy, you’ll chase down scoops as the newest robo-intern of a trusted holopaper. Your assignments might initially seem less than glamorous, like intersolar cat shows and underground dirt fairs—you are an intern, after all. But what, and how, you report is up to you: by picking your way through branching conversations and exploring each level, you’ll discover hidden information, new sources and surprising quotes, allowing you to craft your story your way through the game’s unique Build-A-Story feature.

“Branching conversations are the bread and butter of a lot of larger Western RPGs, and they are, in many ways, what you do as a reporter doing an interview,” Copychaser Games Creative Director Ben Gelinas explains. “You have to decide what to ask, and how to ask it to get the information you need.”

Gelinas knows that from experience: before he began writing for games—with credits on Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect 3, and Control, among other titles—Gelinas was working as a crime reporter for a daily newspaper in Canada. Drawing on his past career offered new opportunities for well-established conversation systems.

“In Times & Galaxy, we’ve turned information into a collectible,” he adds, “which excited me from a narrative standpoint. It’s always so tricky to combine narrative elements with gameplay.”

The Build-A-Story feature breaks each story down into five parts: headline, lede, nut graf (a summarizing, ‘in a nutshell’ paragraph), key quote, and color context. Your options for each will expand as you pull quotes from conversations and scour levels for context and clues. Depending on how you frame what you’ve discovered, your story can turn out sensational, informational, or “alien” interest—each with lasting consequences for your paper’s reputation and readership.

Gelinas notes that it’s not so much about finding the “right” answer as it is deciding how best to present what you find.

“I didn’t want to do a binary,” he says. “I didn’t want to do ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Having three extremes makes things more complicated. And these are all pulled from types of journalism that people do in the real world.”

Times & Galaxy Screenshot

In his reporter days, Gelinas noticed how different newspapers, covering the same story, would produce very different takes on the same thing.

“We were all reporters doing our jobs,” Gelinas notes. “But the result was different depending on who was reporting and the overarching goals of the newspaper.”

So when it came time to gamify journalism in Times & Galaxy, Gelinas built his narrative team mostly out of former and current journalists, with histories in alt-weeklies and student journalism, to lend their lived experience with the craft—and to help shape the 100-plus memorable characters that populate the game, both on and off the news ship.

“For whatever reason, journalism attracted, and still continues to attract, some of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet,” Gelinas says. “I wanted Times & Galaxy to reflect that: I wanted to fill it with very memorable weirdos… And then you get to join them and decide what kind of weirdo you are.”

Times & Galaxy will come to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2024.
