Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights Update Introduces PlayStation Crossplay

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights Update

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update will be released this week. One of the main gameplay improvements the update will introduce is crossplay for PlayStation players. PS5 and PS4 players have been stuck in their own ecosystem while watching Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC players mingle freely, but that’s all set to change in a couple of days.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update patch notes

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update will also introduce new content for the main game and A Rift in Time DLC. All players will get Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) as a new character, as well as Tiana’s Palace restaurant and Tiana’s Meal Stall. There’s a new Star Path inspired by the Roaring Twenties, new content in Scrooge McDuck’s Store, and more additions to the Premium Shop.

Those who have purchased the A Rift in Time DLC will be able to finish the storyline with the release of Act III – “Treasures of Time” while Jafar will finally be added to the valley as a new character.

The Dapper Delights update will go live on August 21, 2024, complete with crossplay for all platforms. Now PS5 and PS4 players will be able to visit their friends’ valleys on other platforms. You can see the full patch notes below:

NEW CONTENT (AVAILABLE TO ALL PLAYERS):

  • A new character! Revel in the magic of cooking as you welcome Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog to the Valley, alongside new Friendship Quests and unique new items.

  • A new stall! Visit Tiana’s Meal Stall to purchase delicious meals, rotating daily.

  • A new Signature Bundle in the Premium Shop! Ariel’s Royal Bundle offers a wide range of customization items inspired by Disney’s The Little Mermaid, including a Dream Style for Ariel, a House Style inspired by Prince Eric’s village, and clothing items and furniture that exudes opulence.
  • Weekly rotations to look forward to! Keep an eye out for new optional items in the Premium Shop (alongside some returning favorites), as well as new, weekly DreamSnaps challenges and rewards.

Another Disney Dreamlight Valley update is due by summer’s end

Tiana is coming soon to Disney Dreamlight Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley is pretty well known for having regular updates, new villagers arriving in the valley, and new quests to be undertaken. Late in 2023, Gameloft shared a roadmap for 2024, and according to them we’ve got another update coming very soon.

We're getting into August now, and according to the Disney Dreamlight Valley roadmap released in December 2023, we’re due another update, complete with Tiana from The Princess and the Frog as a new villager, before the summer ends.

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Roadmap for 2024
Image via Gameloft

As well as Tiana and everything she could bring to the valley (I’m hoping for Naveen to arrive alongside her in frog form and desperate to have Ray as a companion, but I’m not holding my breath), those with the Rift in Time DLC are also due another update which will see the culmination of Jafar’s storyline along with the ability to finally fix the rift.

We’ve already seen everything else from the roadmap come to fruition, with Mike and Sulley having arrived in the valley with the Laugh Floor update in Feburary, Daisy Duck following in the Thrills & Frills update in May, and most recently Mulan and Mushu joining the ever expanding population in the Lucky Dragon update in June.

Of course, with summer technically lasting until September 22, we might be waiting a little longer for the next update, but it’s definitely coming soon. It’s unknown exactly what will be included in the next update, outside of Tiana of course, but the hint that she will “bring new culinary delights” heavily suggests that the already very long list of recipes is about to grow.

Asphalt Legends Unite: Arcade Racing Full of Nostalgia

Arcade Racing Reborn

The era of frantic arcade racing is almost gone by now. Games like Forza Horizon and The Crew Motorfest may have taken the lead in this gaming area. Still, as gamers, we miss the days of sliding our Ferrari F50 around corners at just the right angles, with a first or second-generation Sony console sitting on the shelf next to the TV, pumping blood through our veins under insane pressure, providing the perfect atmosphere. Asphalt Legends Unite, which came out a week or so ago on PlayStation 5, would be criminal to compare to classics of decades past, such as 2006’s OutRun, which I experienced (though certainly not at the original time of release per se). Still, it’s probably the closest comparison I could find to the PS5 of today.

Free-to-Play Frenzy: The Microtransaction Minefield

The first major thing I’d start with is one big and hard-to-overlook negative (unsurprisingly): this is a free-to-play game, so there are loot boxes, card packs, microtransactions, and more at every turn. New cars are unlocked by collecting cards and earning duplicates to increase their stats, like Disney Speedstorm. You’re also limited by the petrol tank, which does regenerate over time. Still, you want to play for a long time. In that case, you need to have more cars because you can’t use the same one over and over, which, of course, also tempts you to pay for some of it from your actual wallet with bonus currency to refill that all-important petrol immediately if you don’t want to wait.

Gameplay That Defies Gravity

Now, on the other hand, for what you will surely enjoy. On the other hand, the gameplay is outstanding, at least by the standards of pure, unadulterated arcades. Tracks like San Francisco and the Himalayas are (in a good way) ridiculously oversaturated, with one race having you sprinting down a mountain. At the same time, hot air balloons fly above you. It captures that beloved nostalgia of “old school” titles. It’s not over the top, but the game won’t leave you sitting comfortably in your chair. Despite including real cars, the game defies physics quite a bit. Double-tapping the handbrake button will allow your car to rotate 360 degrees. You can pair this with a ramp, effectively spinning you in the air before landing. These tricks, including the classic drift, complement the vital turbo that often decides who gets to the finish line first. Tapping the button for a more robust version of the extra power at the right time for “Perfect Nitro” will also add extra speed.

Tracks That Keep You Coming Back

As for the tracks above, while there aren’t many of them, they still manage to keep you entertained over and over again due to the absurd scenes that keep happening and the intense pace of the game. The car upgrade system is traditionally straightforward but adequate for a mobile game. You need to use the car often and gradually grind it out. The career, which is probably the most comprehensive part of the game, is in the spirit of constantly unlocking more and more repetitive race combinations, which are searched in about 10 identical locations. However, this is compensated by the pace mentioned above and the races’ intensity. Again, there’s quite a variety of tricks you’ll be performing across the races on your opponents. The repetitiveness will slap you in the face, but you’ll go through all the amazing action with hardly any real feeling.

Sonic Bliss which Steals the Show

Before the actual verdict, I’d like to mention Asphalt Legends Unite’s soundtrack, which is simply perfect and atmospheric and will suck you into an already frantic pace. Every song in the game is well-chosen and fits the game perfectly. We’re certainly not a fan of music from recent years, but here the music simply suited my taste. Rock, pop, and rap are the most represented here. No one genre overpowers another here; everything is balanced, specifically rap, which I generally don’t like. It was also excellent here, and I enjoyed it. No vulgarisms or anything like that. Just and only decent music. The music has become my favorite aspect of the game, which still keeps me glued to the monitor despite the overall traditional, straightforward mobile game concept, which I’m not used to as a regular PlayStation gamer. It’s a shame that the latest titles in the Need for Speed series don’t have this kind of music. The game world would be a more beautiful place right away.

The Final Lap

The monetization may put off a lot of gamers. Still, the free-to-play format means anyone can jump in and enjoy the sheer absurdity of some tracks and cars. It’s a very action-packed, intense, and utterly absurd gameplay experience with phenomenal music that’s designed to be played in relatively short bursts, so if you’re craving something silly, simple, and utterly over-the-top to play after a grueling day at work, there aren’t many better options on the PS5. Sometimes, all a game needs is simple albeit silly fun, and Asphalt Legends Unite offers precisely that. I was initially going to give the game 70% at best, but the music of this game won me over, so finally, the rating is a little higher. Feel free to lynch me for this, but I stand by it! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I will move on.
Rating: 75%

How to unlock the Witch’s Swamp in Stardew Valley

The Witch's Hut in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is filled with quests to complete and secrets to find, some of which unlock new areas to explore. One of these new areas, the Witch’s Swamp, not only unlocks new sights but also new features. Here’s how to unlock it.

Before you can trigger the quest that unlocks the Witch’s Swamp, you’ll need to have either completed the Community Center bundles or the Joja Warehouse tasks. Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to wait for a cutscene in the Mountains to play one night after you retire to bed.

How to complete Dark Talisman in Stardew Valley

The Wizard in Stardew Valley

After the Mountain cutscene, you’ll receive a letter from the Wizard in the mail. His ex-wife, also known as the Witch, has some magic ink in her house that needs to be retrieved. Unfortunately, you can’t just rock up to the Witch’s Hut and ask for it back - you need to find the Dark Talisman first, which will grant you access to the Swamp.

To complete the Dark Talisman, you’ll need to first talk to Krobus. He can unlock a door within the Sewers that leads to the Mutant Bug Lair. Head inside, and you’ll find the Dark Talisman after battling through, as the name suggests, some mutant bugs.

Once you’ve got the Dark Talisman, head north to the Railroad area and find the cave in the top right corner. You’ll be able to place the Talisman on the artifact blocking the entrance and proceed through the cave.

Make sure to take some Void Mayonnaise with you when you enter the Swamp. You’ll need to give it to the Witch’s Henchman, completing another quest called Goblin Problem and allowing you further into the Swamp. Head into the Witch’s Hut and you’ll find the magic ink on a table, which you can pick up and return to the Wizard to complete Dark Talisman.

What to do at the Witch’s Swamp in Stardew Valley

Shrines inside the Witch's Hut in Stardew Valley

There are a few things that you can do once you’ve gained access to the Witch’s Swamp. There are a couple of fish there, Void Salmon and Catfish. Void Salmon don’t spawn anywhere else, and Catfish only appear on rainy days.

The main draw of the Witch’s Swamp, though, is the Witch’s Hut itself. Inside, you’ll find three different shrines, all of which are useful in a different way and need a specific offering to use:

Shrine Effect Required offering
Dark Shrine of Memory Erases the memory of all past spouses (including Krobus), allowing you to build relationships with them again. 30,000 Gold
Dark Shrine of Selfishness Turns any existing children into doves, permanently removing them from a playthrough 1 Prismatic Shard
Dark Shrine of Night Terrors You can use this shrine to toggle monsters appearing on your farm at night on and off. Works on all farm maps. 1 Strange Bun (per use)

How to ‘get some Night Shards to lighten up’ in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The confusing duty name and what you need in Disney Dreamlight Valley

As part of the new A Day at Disney Star Path event in Disney Dreamlight Valley, there are a lot of new duties to complete and some of them come complete with vague or riddle-esque descriptions. One of these makes it sound like Night Thorns are terrible at parties, but I promise you don’t have to cheer them up.

You can be forgiven if the description for this duty has you stumped, but the answer is actually pretty simple - all you need to do to complete this duty is craft the listed number of Purified Night Shards.

How to make Purified Night Shards in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To make Purified Night Shards, you’re going to need two things:

  • 5 Night Shards
    • Crafted at a Crafting Station using three Onyx
    • Found when clearing away Night Thorns
    • Found when digging in sparkling mounds in any biome

  • 1 Dream Shard
    • Critters can drop Dream Shards when fed a food that they like
    • Found when clearing away Night Thorns
    • Found when digging in sparkling mounds in any biome

Once you’ve got the required materials, simply head to a Crafting Station and find Purified Night Shard under the Potions and Enchantments tab.

How to use Purified Night Shards in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Although they aren’t generally used in crafting on a day to day basis, Purified Night Shards can be used in a number of different friendship quests with different Villagers:

Villager Quest Purified Night Shards needed
Merlin Crystal Mystery
A Dark Experiment
The Final Trial

5
Fairy Godmother Miracles Take Time
Eric Part of His World
The Mythical Crystal

Simba Stars to Guide Us

Beast The Crown or the Claw 3
Olaf The Great Blizzard 5
Maui The Heart of Dreamlight Valley 5
Sulley The Power of Knowledge 5

Ursula These Legs Were Made for Walking 2

Or, if you have completed all of these quests and have no further use for Purified Night Shards, they can be sold for 70 Star Coins each.

Disney Dreamlight Valley players are upset about ‘misleading’ Premium Store item

Small Pink Wings in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Premium Shop is no stranger to controversy and one of the latest additions, the Small Pink Wings, have caused a bit of backlash within the player community and renewed a call for an item preview function.

Ever since it was introduced back in February 2023, the Premium Shop has offered players a chance to get their hands on unique items or items from past Star Path events. From the beginning, there was discourse among players due to the price of items, but it has gone on to become a popular addition to the game.

However, the Premium Store is now a year old and it's still missing one much-desired feature — the ability to preview items before purchasing. While clothing items are displayed on a mannequin, wings aren’t. This is the main issue that has caused the latest controversy.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Small Pink Wings controversy

Wings that have previously featured in the Disney Dreamlight Valley Premium Shop

There have been four different varieties of wings that have been featured as possible purchases in the Premium Store (shown above). Judging from the photos and the price of the latest set, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Small Pink Wings would be a similar size to the other three.

Sadly, you’d be wrong and it’s this fact that has caused upset within the Dreamlight Valley community.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DreamlightValley/comments/1b28img/what_is_this_wings_lol_bit_sad_i_spent_my/

As it turns out, the wings are absolutely tiny and players feel as though they’ve been misled with the Premium Shop image, understandably, and the argument for some form of preview function has become all the stronger as a result.

On the plus side, these wings have sparked a slew of jokes involving Heimlich from A Bug’s Life, after he gains his rather tiny wings and turns into a ‘beautiful butterfly’. Reddit comments are filled with people sharing images and gifs of the underrated character, causing others to state that they now actually want the wings in light of the comparison.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's first major content update of 2024 arrives this Wednesday, 28th February, introducing Monsters, Inc.'s Sully and Mike Wazowski to the village - and ahead of its arrival, developer Gameloft has detailed everything this week's free patch will bring.

Mike and Sulley arrive as part of what Gameloft is officially calling the Laugh Floor Update, and both make their Dreamlight Valley debut via a new playable Realm - giving players the chance to experience a day-in-the-life at Monsters, Inc. before the duo become available as villagers - each with their own friendship quests and associated rewards.

Other features coming in this week's Laugh Floor Update, as detailed in Gameloft's newly shared patch notes, include more avatar customisation options - ranging from new skin tones and special eye contacts to new ear styles - plus an expansion to Scrooge McDuck's shop, meaning players will see more items to spend their in-game gold on each day.
