When it came to choosing a developer for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, I firmly believe MachineGames was the right team for the job. No-one has a better track record than the Wolfenstein developer when it comes to punching Nazis, or tracking down mysterious and ancient artifacts in elaborate ways to keep them out of the hands of said Nazis. Having now seen a demonstration of the new Indiana Jones game ahead of its reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, I can say that MachineGames has absolutely nailed the tone - but I’ll need to see more before I’m convinced this is a truly great game.

As the Ark Survival Ascended Aberration DLC creeps closer, developer Studio Wildcard lifts the lid on another accomplice joining the roster. Arriving alongside the new expansion pack, which is currently scheduled for the start of September, this cutesy critter will be available to players who have purchased the Bob’s Tall Tales add-on for the dinosaur survival game, and it feels like a make-good for people sad that a similar option missed out on the community Aberration creature vote.

It might not be quite the size of Fortnite, CS2, or Helldivers 2, but Duck Game is nevertheless a multiplayer game with a very well-earned reputation. Boasting an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ 97% user score on Steam from almost 25,000 reviews, the indie game about ducks blasting each other with big guns has long been a fan favorite party game to play with friends. Now, after fears that it could disappear from sale amid publisher changes, solo developer Landon Podbielski confirms that Duck Game is “not going anywhere.”

The hole left after finishing Baldur’s Gate 3 can be tough to fill - my friends and I just this week wrapped up a near 100-hour campaign, and now we’re looking for the next RPG to take our attention. One worthy contender in that field is Wartales, the open-world, turn-based medieval strategy game from developer Shiro Games that sees you (and your friends, if you'd like) leading a band of mercenaries in search of adventure, fortune, and glory. Already boasting an impressive 91% Steam rating from over 21,000 reviews, a new DLC just dropped that transforms the epic into a management sim.

The gorgeous world and delightful gaslamp fantasy designs of Nightingale really caught my eye, but a rocky launch via Steam Early Access has left the survival game with mixed reviews, with Inflexion Games CEO Aaryn Flynn admitting he was “not satisfied” with the launch. The developer has just taken a first big step on the road to recovery, however, with the release of Nightingale update 0.2, which brings a pretty sizable count of upgrades to the table as the team works on offline mode and increased build limits.

As the wait for Hollow Knight Silksong continues unabated, there’s no shortage of excellent 2D action platform games to keep us busy on Steam. Following on from last year’s excellent Blasphemous 2 and the more recent Ultros, we’ve just this month seen the arrivals of more delightful indie games such as Saviorless and BioGun. New expansion Besiege: The Splintered Sea is set to dramatically shake up one of the most iconic and beloved sandbox games on PC with the introduction of one of the most universal substances on Earth - water. But if you, like I was, are worried about what might happen to its delicious explosions in the soggy new setting, developer Spiderling Studios is here to reassure you that they’re getting even better than before.

One of the best city builders in recent memory, Against the Storm has continued to build on its successful early access run, which lead up to its 1.0 Steam launch in December 2023. Boasting an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ 95% Steam review score from over 21,000 reviews and a firm favorite of the PCGamesN staff, Against the Storm is a beautiful roguelike strategy game that’s perfect if you fancy a break from the more traditional locales of Cities Skylines 2 and Manor Lords for something more fantastical.

The first No Rest for the Wicked patch notes are here, following a troubled launch that has seen the new RPG game land to ‘mixed’ Steam reviews. The ambitious ARPG blending the perspective and loot of Diablo with Dark Souls and Elden Ring style stats and combat has been a long-awaited passion project from developer Moon Studios, best known for the fantastic pair of Ori games. Despite a mostly positive response to its setting and concept, early performance issues and balance concerns have troubled players, but the dev is already hard at work with its first post-launch update targeting some major complaints.

Ever since the early days of Diablo, inventory management has been one of those frustrating aspects of gaming that you just have to deal with. It’s been a constant for many years, through many RPGs including Fallout, Skyrim, and of course Baldur’s Gate 3. Resident Evil 4 was a high point, with its particular brand of briefcase Tetris, but now a delightful new indie game called Backpack Battles has turned the strife of sorting your stuff into a frantic multiplayer game in the style of TFT and Super Auto Pets, and it’s already blowing up on Steam at launch.

Alongside the might of Firaxis Games’ Civilization 6 and the vastness of Paradox Interactive’s Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3, the 4X games of Amplitude Studios have always had a special place in my heart for their more unique, romantic approach to the world of strategy games. While its “strategic space opera” Endless Space 2 has long been beloved by many, however, some of its DLC was anything but. Now, though, both the base game and its Awakening add-on have been given hefty upgrades, and you can get it all at a big discount in this Steam sale.

Nightingale is one of the prettiest survival games I’ve seen, yet its launch via Steam Early Access has been met with a rather tepid response from players. Released just over two weeks ago on Tuesday February 20, the Nightingale player count has fallen to just over one fifth of its launch peak, while Steam reviews sit at a ‘mixed’ 61%. Inflexion Games CEO Aaryn Flynn says he is “not satisfied” with parts of the launch, saying, “there’s much more to do.”

I’m so thankful for Tribes 3 Rivals. Developer Prophecy Games has brought back the fastest multiplayer shooter on PC, eight years on from the final update to Tribes Ascend, and it’s already seen a positive reception, becoming the most played FPS game during the recent Steam Next Fest. Now, we have a release date for the official early access launch, and it’s surprisingly soon.
