As PCGamesN’s resident roguelike enjoyer, it’s my duty to tell you about the best of the best. The cream of the crop. The crème de la crème. I’m always coming back to the likes of Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Hades, and Enter the Gungeon because they have almost infinite replayability, but there are always more roguelikes to try. It can be daunting, especially with your Steam backlog growing by the sale, but a new Humble offering is here to offer up some classics of the genre, and they’re up to 95% off as well.

The best roguelikes are defined by their dungeons. Hades pits you against the depths of the Greek underworld, Enter the Gungeon sends you into an oubliette themed around firearms, and Slay the Spire tasks you with ascending the world’s deadliest tower. The setting isn't the only reason these roguelikes work, of course, but each dungeon sets the tone for your adventure. But what happens when you make that dungeon yourself? This is a question Into the Restless Ruins aims to answer. Created by a former Rockstar, GTA, and Call of Duty dev, the roguelike deck builder’s Steam demo is finally live for everyone to try.

Between Minecraft, Roblox, Dreams, and Gmod there are plenty of creative ways to make your own games. You can learn the basics and be off to the races, sharing animations, game modes, and unique experiences with absolutely anyone. For those games, though, the act of creation is almost entirely locked into their own ecosystem, so Sandbox wants to change that. A spiritual successor to Gmod from Facepunch Studios, the team just made Sandbox open to all for the first time. It was so popular that it broke.

Combining the action RPG combat of Diablo with the survival and base building of Satisfactory, The Riftbreaker is an impressive genre mash-up. It’s a fast and fluid mix of ideas where you bounce between calm moments of construction and frantic fights, but you’ve always had to do this alone. That’s not going to be the case for much longer though, as developer Exor Studios details all the mechanical changes coming to the new co-op mode, and you can still sign up to give it a try ahead of time. Best of all, The Riftbreaker is dirt cheap right now in a Steam sale.

Nexon has issued a mysterious warning to players who take advantage of The First Descendant's broken systems, especially if they’re being used to farm for extra resources. After players were left confused by Nexon's plans for the 'Valby Run' gold farm, this talk of system exploits being “abnormal gameplay behavior” presents another potential pitfall for the looter shooter.

As MMORPG Black Desert Online sneakily celebrates its tenth anniversary, developer Pearl Abyss reveals a brand new playable class coming to the game soon. There's even a new expansion on the horizon, alongside the reveal of the highest-tier weapon in the entire game.

With Payday 2 holding strong and Payday 3 still struggling after a troubled launch, there's certainly a gap in the market for a new heist game contender. Enter the once-maligned Crime Boss: Rockay City, which just launched on Steam after a year as an Epic Games Store PC exclusive. There are far too many excellent turn-based strategy games to play them all these days, and with even more coming to PC everyday, going back to the landmark releases gets harder and harder. But if you missed it, Invisble, Inc from Don't Starve developer Klei Entertainment is worth a return, particularly if you miss XCOM 2, and need something to fill the gap before (hopefully) XCOM 3. Between the likes of Diablo 4, Last Epoch, and Path of Exile, ARPG fans are eating good right now. Each game offers something a little different while spurring the competition to learn from and bounce off of one another. Now that V Rising 1.0 has arrived, it’s time to take on the world’s most famous vampire in the survival game. With plenty of new features like an extra region to explore, more weapons to use against the undead, and new difficulty options, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing the popularity of V Rising increase after Steam Early Access. Marvel Rivals developer NetEase has apologized for a contract it sent to content creators looking to play the hero shooter’s alpha playtest. The contract contained a non-disparagement agreement that forbade streamers and creators from being critical of the game and “providing subjective negative reviews,” with NetEase telling PCGamesN that it is now working with creators to revise the terms of the agreement.

The Fallout 4 next gen update was a disaster. We knew it was likely to break mods upon release, but a spate of other issues immediately cropped up on all platforms, not just PC. While Fallout 4 enjoyed its best player count in years thanks to the success of the show, we were all met with a mess of a patch that Bethesda has finally promised to fix, and we don’t have to wait long.

Hero shooters are everywhere these days. Overwatch 2. Apex Legends. Valorant. Rainbow Six Siege. You can't move without stubbing your toe on one. This is why the upcoming Marvel Rivals, which leverages decades of comic lore and successful films for its characters, has a herculean task ahead of it. Even with that though, the shooter has just detailed a destruction system that could be a piece of the puzzle that helps it find a dedicated audience.

The Helldivers 2 mission statement of bringing players along for the constantly evolving narrative has just hit a new objective: eliminate two billion Automatons. The only issue is, that after we did the same to the Terminid swarm in less than a day, the exploit we accidentally used has been removed. There's no other game series like Dark Souls. FromSoftware’s landmark series encouraged many imitators, but the trilogy’s authenticity of design, lack of compromise, and approach to challenge cannot be beaten. Elden Ring brought this to the open world, but the Dark Souls trilogy used more condensed design in ways that help it hold up today. So if you've never played any of the originals, now’s the time, because you can get them all cheap on Steam.

With Helldivers 2 still unavailable in almost 200 territories on Steam, PlayStation’s next PC port has also been delisted on the Valve platform, and it’s not even out yet. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is coming to Steam in just a few days, and despite only needing PlayStation Network (PSN) for the multiplayer portion of the game, it looks like Sony has removed it from a huge number of territories without any warning.

Sunday April 21 @ 4:40am PDT Arrowhead now says that thanks to an Automaton attack, it is now "unable to provide updates to liberation percentage and ongoing galactic war progress for the foreseeable future."

In what feels like an act of defiance, it looks like we’re meant to lose the next Helldivers 2 major order. After we beat two billion Terminids in less than a day Arrowhead Game Studios gave us the task of successfully defending ten planets, and it’s not going well. Now, a message from one of the community managers says there are “grim projections” for us, and that we’ll likely lose ground on both fronts against the bots and bugs. Whoever said live service games had to be fair?

As someone new to MMOs and MMORPGs after getting into Final Fantasy 14 a decade late, I’m constantly floored by how long the successful ones have been running. World of Warcraft is coming up on two decades of expansions and updates, even rolling back to its own Classic version due to demand, and Star Wars: The Old Republic has been around since 2011. Fantasy classic The Lord of the Rings Online is still kicking too, and it’s celebrating its 17th birthday with an annual event, even as a brand new LOTR MMO looms from Amazon.

What makes a great party game? It needs to be easy to pick up and understand, have a competitive edge and a skill ceiling that's not too high, and have games that don't last too long. Mix all that together and you've got a game you can play for minutes or hours, and anyone can get involved. In my experience, Golf With Your Friends fits this criteria perfectly, and everyone can play it for free for a limited time, with a massive update and Steam sale once you're done.

There are a lot of games that try to nail spaceship combat. Starfield, Star Citizen, and Elite Dangerous all come to mind of course, but Rockfish Games' single-player shooter Everspace 2 should also make that list. The 2023 space game channels galactic combat and combines it with Diablo-style loot drops, and the next big free update aims to make these even more rewarding with new encounters and even better legendary drops. The good news, then? We just got the Everspace 2 Incursions release date, and it's incredibly soon.

The Helldivers 2 galactic war system is supposed to have the successful liberation of certain planets directly impact the status of others, according to Arrowhead Game Studios. This system currently doesn’t work outright in the live game, but it turns out that Arrowhead will still honor it under what the team is calling the “Martale gambit,” where the liberation of said planet will end the defense event of an adjoining one.

Now that Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 6 is here, many players are coming together to try and tell Larian about the sheer number of bugs and issues they’re seeing in the game right now. With multiple bug lists now making the rounds, it looks as though the kissing patch and hotfix 18 have had a plethora of unintended consequences for players across the board.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League currently has fewer active concurrent players than all four of the Batman Arkham games on Steam. If you’d asked 13-year-old me to define his personality in 2011, Fallout New Vegas and Limp Bizkit would’ve probably been his response. 13 years later, New Vegas is still one of my favorite games and Limp Bizkit is still one of my favorite bands. But this dynamic duo seems to transcend my own personal taste, because a Fred Durst companion mod for the Fallout game that uses compressed ripped snippets from Limp Bizkit’s tracks has been found and restored, after it was thought to be lost forever.
