Samsung has released an update to the Samsung Health Monitor app in India, which brings the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature to the Galaxy Watch 4 (and probably all newer Galaxy Watches). This brings one more health-related feature to Galaxy Watch 4 users in the country.
Galaxy Watch 4 gets Irregular Hearth Rhythm Notification feature in India via Samsung Health Monitor
Samsung has released a new update (version 1.3.4.004) to the Samsung Health Monitor app with a download size of 58.54MB (via Yash Agarwal). It brought the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature to the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Once the Samsung Health Monitor app's newest version is installed on your Galaxy smartphone, you can open the app to find a new pop-up window that notifies you about the IHRN feature.
This new feature is only available for Wear OS-based Galaxy Watches. Since the Samsung Health Monitor app is compatible with all Wear OS-based Galaxy Watches, the new feature might be available to the Galaxy Watch 5 series, Galaxy Watch 6 series, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The story continues after our Galaxy Watch 7 hands-on video.
How to activate Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature on Galaxy Watches?
To activate the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature on your Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch, follow the steps listed below.
Open the Samsung Health Monitor app on your Galaxy phone and navigate to the ECG tab.
Click the three-dot icon on the top-right corner of the screen and then tap on Settings.
Tap on Notifications and then enable the Irregular Heart Rhythm toggle.
You will now receive notifications when your Galaxy Watch detects an irregular heart rhythm. A few times a day, when you are still, the Galaxy Watch will check your pulse. If it detects one hour of an irregular heart rhythm, it might indicate Atrial Fibrillation (A.Fib). If you get the IHRN notification, take your ECG reading immediately from the Samsung Health Monitor app and contact your doctor or an appropriate health clinic for consultation.
Samsung has announced that its flagship robot vacuum cleaner, the BESPOKE AI Steam, will get even better at mopping. The company has released a new update that emphasizes cleaning the mopping pads, making the whole process even more hygienic.
BESPOKE AI Steam gets longer mop pad cleaning time
The BESPOKE AI Steam is Samsung's flagship robot vacuum cleaner for the South Korean market. Its closely matched US variant is the Jet Bot Vacuum with AI, which costs $1,700. The BESPOKE AI Steam is getting a new feature to make mopping even more hygienic. Samsung said it has released a new update to the BESPOKE AI Steam that will increase the steam concentration mode from 160 seconds to 240 seconds, an increase of 80 seconds.
The robot vacuum has a three-step mop-cleaning process. It includes mop washing using high-temperature water, mop sterilization using steam, and mop drying using hot air. The time it takes to complete this process was 180 seconds earlier, but it has been increased to 240 seconds to increase sterilization and deodorization.
Samsung claims the BESPOKE AI Steam can remove three types of bacteria from the floors: E. coli, Staphylococcus Aureus, and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. The robot vacuum is claimed to have a 99.99% sterilization effect and a 95% deodorization effect. Moreover, the UV LED installed inside the vacuum cleaner stops bacterial growth inside the dust collection bag.
The company says it plans to release an update to the BESPOKE AI Steam in the fourth quarter of this year. The robot vacuum would be able to detect if a person has collapsed on the floor and send a notification to their family members.
Thanks to all its cleaning, mopping, and sterilization features, the BESPOKE AI Steam is gaining popularity. Samsung says its sales have increased by 4x compared to last year.
Yoo Mi-young, Vice President of Samsung DX, said, “For consumers who are concerned about the hygiene and odor of mops during the hot and humid summer, we have updated the steam concentration mode to enable safe sterilization and deodorization without detergent,” adding, “We plan to continue to provide functional updates that reflect the needs of consumers in the future.“
The Galaxy S24 FE is Samsung's next Fan Edition smartphone. While Samsung missed launching the Galaxy S22 FE, it looks like Samsung will continue to launch FE series smartphones every year. The company doesn't usually launch all its smartphones in the USA, but it seems like the Galaxy S24 FE will definitely be launched in the country.
Galaxy S24 FE confirmed to launch in the USA
A new and unannounced Samsung smartphone with model number SM-S721U was spotted (via 91Mobiles) in the Bluetooth SIG database. Going by the model number, the phone is the upcoming Galaxy S24 FE's carrier-locked variant for the US market. For reference, the model number of the Galaxy S23 FE's US carrier-locked variant is SM-S711U.
The Galaxy S24 FE's Bluetooth certification document doesn't reveal any details about its specifications. However, considering the phone will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US, it will likely feature 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 (with LE Audio and LC3 codecs). The global version of the phone likely features the Exynos 2400 chip, which was also used in the global versions of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+.
A few days ago, complete features and specifications of the Galaxy S24 FE were leaked, along with the phone's images and color options. According to that report, the phone features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, in-display fingerprint reader, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. It uses the Exynos 2400 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chip, depending on the market.
You can watch the performance of the Exynos 2400 chip in our Galaxy S24 review in the video below.
It will reportedly have an aluminum frame, glass back, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The phone will be available in five colors: blue, graphite, mint, silver, and yellow. The phone is said to feature a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. On the front, it has a 10MP selfie camera. It can record 4K 60fps videos from the front and rear cameras.
The report also claimed the Galaxy S24 FE has 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage. It will run Android 14-based One UI 6.1 out of the box and get at least four major Android OS updates and five years of security patches. It is powered by a 4,565mAh battery, capable of lasting up to 78 hours of audio streaming or 29 hours of video streaming on a single charge.
The Galaxy S24 FE has GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It also has 25W fast wired charging, 15W wireless Qi charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra, which will likely launch in January 2025, reportedly has a new design language featuring more rounded corners and softer edges. It is also getting new software that will gel well with the new design. The new design also improves the Galaxy S25 Ultra's screen size and bezels.
Galaxy S25 Ultra to feature a 6.9-inch screen, thinner bezels
According to a claim from usually reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a narrower body despite a bigger screen. It is said to have a 77.6mm wide body and a 6.86-inch screen. In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 79mm wide body and a 6.79-inch screen. This means Samsung will offer a bigger screen with a narrower body, which is a win-win for consumers.
The bezels around the Galaxy S24 Ultra's 6.8-inch screen measure 3.35mm. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, which reportedly has a 6.9-inch screen, has 2.3mm bezels around the display. That means the upcoming phone has 31% thinner bezels. This will improve the phone's ergonomics, and people will feel more comfortable holding it for a long time.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is also said to feature more rounded corners, moving away from the sharp corners seen on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This should bring more consistency between the design of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Currently, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ have rounded corners, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has sharper corners.
Watch our Galaxy S24 Ultra review in the video below.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is said to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip worldwide. It is an upcoming 3nm chip fabricated by TSMC and uses two high-performance CPU cores clocked at 4GHz and six power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 2.8GHz. It will reportedly use the new Adreno 8 series GPU with 40% faster performance.
Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone is said to feature a quad-camera setup on the rear. It reportedly uses a 200MP primary rear camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, two 50MP telephoto cameras (3x and 5x optical zoom), and a 12MP selfie camera. It will continue to use a 5,000mAh battery and have 45W fast charging.
At the ongoing Gamescom 2024 event in the US, Samsung unveiled its new Odyssey gaming monitors: Odyssey 3D, Odyssey OLED G8, and Odyssey OLED G9. The Odyssey 3D is the company's first glasses-free 3D gaming monitor, and you can read about it here. The Odyssey OLED G8 now comes in a new size, while the Odyssey OLED G9 has a variant that doesn't have a Smart Hub.
Samsung unveiled the Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SD) at Gamescom 2024. It has a 34-inch QD-OLED curved screen with an ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio and an 1800R curvature. It has a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels, a 175Hz variable refresh rate, a 0.03s grey-to-grey response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for tear-free gaming.
It also features Samsung Gaming Hub and Samsung Smart Hub. This means that the gaming monitor runs Tizen OS, so you can use it as a smart TV to stream movies, music, and TV shows using apps like Apple Music, Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube. You can also mirror your laptop's, PC's, smartphone's, or tablet's screen to the monitor using AirPlay 2, Miracast, or Smart View.
Using Samsung's Gaming Hub, you can stream games directly from the cloud. Samsung Gaming Hub has Amazon Luna, Microsoft Xbox Cloud, Nvidia GeForce Now, and Utomik. It comes bundled with a remote controller, so you can use its smart features without a laptop or PC.
The Odyssey OLED G9 has two variants: G93SD and G95SD. Both variants have a 49-inch QD-OLED screen with dual-QHD (5,120 x 1,440 pixels) resolution, a 32:9 ultrawide aspect ratio, and a curvature of 1,800R. They have a 240Hz variable refresh rate (with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro) and a 0.03ms response time.
The G95SD has the Gaming Hub and Smart Hub, so you can stream games, movies, music, and TV shows. You can also control smart home devices using the SmartThings app or mirror your laptop's or phone's screen wirelessly using AirPlay 2, Miracast, and Smart View, depending on the model of your device.
The G93SD lacks Samsung's Gaming Hub and Smart Hub features. All these Odyssey gaming monitors feature Samsung OLED Safeguard, an algorithm that prevents pixel burn-in, and OLED Glare Free, a coating on the screen that minimizes glare and light reflections. Samsung's flagship S95D OLED TV also has this matte finish. They also have RGB lighting on the rear and plenty of ports.
Samsung will expand the availability of these new gaming monitors to major global markets, including Australia, Europe, and North America. The G93SD and the S95SD were earlier only available in some Asian markets, including South Korea.
Samsung, one of the world's most popular gaming monitor brands, has announced its first glasses-free three-dimensional gaming monitor, the Odyssey 3D. The monitor was first teased at CES 2024 earlier this year and revealed at the ongoing Gamescom 2024 event in Cologne, Germany. The monitor uses eye-tracking technology to convert 2D visuals into 3D.
Odyssey 3D is a glasses-free 3D gaming monitor with 4K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate
The Odyssey 3D is the first 3D monitor in Samsung's gaming monitor lineup. It comes in two sizes: 27-inch and 37-inch. It uses a flat 4K QLED panel (probably a VA panel) with a 165Hz variable refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium, and 1ms response time. Samsung hasn't revealed its brightness figures yet.
The monitor tracks the user's eyes in 3D space using two cameras, while Samsung's view-mapping technology adjusts the image in real time to offer a clear three-dimensional effect. Then, it uses a lenticular lens attached to the front of the panel to display two slightly different images, one for the left eye and the other for the right eye, thus creating a 3D effect.
Samsung previously claimed that you could play VR games on this monitor. It can even convert regular 2D content into 3D. If you don't want the 3D effect at all times, like when doing office work, you can switch to the monitor's 2D mode.
The Odyssey 3D has two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, and a height-adjustable stand (with tilt adjustments). This monitor won the ‘Best Of Innovation' award at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, USA, earlier this year.
Samsung hasn't announced the pricing or availability of the Odyssey 3D gaming monitor yet, but we expect it to become available before the end of this year. The South Korean firm has maintained its lead in the global gaming monitor market for the past five years continuously. It had a 20.6% value share in the first quarter of this year.
Jeong Hoon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business Division, said, “We are excited to present a glasses-free 3D gaming monitor that is differentiated from existing displays at Gamescom, the world’s largest gaming show. We will continue to lead the premium gaming monitor market through the development of various new technologies.“
Samsung was in a spot of worry a few months ago, as its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips hadn't received Nvidia's certification for months. A few weeks ago, Samsung's HBM3 chips reportedly received Nvidia's certification for the Chinese market. However, even before the certification, Chinese firms had been reportedly stockpiling Samsung's HBM chips for months.
Chinese firms Baidu and Huawei have been reportedly stockpiling Samsung HBM chips for AI accelerators
According to a report from Reuters, Chinese tech giants Baidu and Huawei have been buying HBM chips from Samsung since earlier this year. The companies ramped up their purchases in anticipation of possible US curbs on exporting critical semiconductor chips to Chinese firms. The report claims that Chinese firms account for nearly 30% of Samsung's HBM chip sales globally.
It is reported that US authorities are planning to impose additional restrictions on chip shipments to China. The US already has curbs that restrict semiconductor chip firms from exporting 5nm (or more advanced) chips to be sold to Chinese firms. Newer export rules from the US may have specific parameters to restrict the export of HBM chips, which are crucial in AI processing.
Almost all AI accelerators, including AMD and Nvidia ones, are paired with HBM memory chips for faster data transfer. The only firms in the world that make HBM chips are Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix. While HBM3E is the most advanced HBM chip right now, Chinese firms have been primarily buying HBM2E chips, which are two generations older.
Since Micron's and SK Hynix's HBM manufacturing capacities have been fully booked by US-based tech firms, Chinese firms are dependent on Samsung's HBM chips. Haawking and Tencent are also said to be among those who bought Samsung's HBM chips. If the US brings additional restrictions on the supply of HBM chips to the Chinese market, Samsung might face business issues.
Apparently, Chinese firm CXMT has been developing HBM2-grade memory chips that are three generations behind. By the time they start using homemade HBM2 chips, Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix would have released HBM4 chips.
Samsung has unveiled the world's thinnest LPDDR5X DRAM chip, which is just 0.65mm thin, or as thin as a fingernail. This chip is made for high-end smartphones, which typically have an onboard neural processing unit (NPU) for on-device AI processing.
Samsung's newest LPDDR5X DRAM is just 0.65mm thin, making it the world's thinnest in its segment
The newest LPDDR5X DRAM chip from Samsung is the world's thinnest 12nm-class chip. It is available in 12GB and 16GB capacities. This chip is made using four stacked layers, each containing two LPDDR DRAM chips. Due to its thin profile, it offers more space in mobile devices, allowing for a better thermal design. According to Samsung, its new memory chip improves heat resistance by up to 21.2% compared to the previous-generation LPDDR5X chip.
Samsung optimized the printed circuit board (PCB), epoxy molding compound (EMC), and the back-lapping process to minimize the chip's height. The company plans to start supplying its new chip to smartphone manufacturers soon. It also announced that it will soon start making 24GB (6-layer) and 32GB (8-layer) LPDDR DRAM chips for future mobile devices.
YongCheol Bae, the Executive VP of Samsung's Memory Product Planning team, said, “Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM sets a new standard for high-performance on-device AI solutions, offering not only superior LPDDR performance but also advanced thermal management in an ultra-compact package. We are committed to continuous innovation through close collaboration with our customers, delivering solutions that meet the future needs of the low-power DRAM market.”
Samsung has revealed all the details about its new security update. The company will soon release the August 2024 security patch to its eligible smartphones and tablets, and its high-end devices might get the new update first.
Samsung's August 2024 security patch fixes 50 security vulnerabilities
After Google detailed the August 2024 security patch for Android on Sunday, Samsung revealed information about its own August 2024 security patch. It fixes 50 security loopholes found in the previous software. 35 of those fixes have been provided by Google; one of them is marked as critical, while 34 are of moderate severity. One patch has also been provided by Samsung Semiconductor (Samsung's chip-making division).
Samsung has included 14 security fixes that apply only to Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The South Korean firm has detailed 12 of those fixes on its security bulletin webpage. Most of them are related to improper access control in several system services. Improper access control was also found in ExtControlDeviceService, Galaxy Watch, Knox, and system property.
Out-of-bound issues in the code were also found in several functions, including libcodec2secmp4vdec.so and libsmat.so. In case of insufficient permission, handling was not done properly in KnoxDualDARPolicy, SumeNNService, and Telephony. Improper input validation was found in the librtp.so function.
These improper access control, out-of-bound, and improper input validation issues allow attackers to gain access to the information in your device without permission or cause the device to crash. The company might start rolling out the August 2024 security patch to Galaxy smartphones and tablets this week.
With its next update, Samsung might start rolling out the One UI 6.1.1-based software update to its high-end devices. It could bring several new features and some Galaxy AI features that debuted with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 last month to older devices.
Samsung has announced that it will bring some exciting offers on its AI TVs in India. During the company's ‘AI-Powered Freedom‘ sale, the South Korean firm aims to democratize AI and make its latest premium TV range more accessible to consumers in the country.
Samsung India's ‘AI-Powered Freedom' sale to bring offers and discounts on its premium TVs

The company's AI-equipped TVs include its new Neo QLED 8K TVs, Neo QLED TVs (4K), OLED TVs, and Crystal 4K UHD TVs. These TVs are secured by Samsung Knox to protect sensitive data with multiple layers of software and hardware. Depending on the model, buyers who buy select premium AI TVs can get a free Serif TV worth INR 89,990 (~ $1,073) or a free soundbar worth INR 47,990 (~$573).
Samsung hasn't announced the rest of the offers and discounts yet, and they will be revealed in the coming days.
Samsung's latest Neo QLED, Neo QLED 8K, and OLED TVs feature processors that have built-in neural processing units (NPUs) for faster AI processing. This processing is used for improved audio and picture quality, depending on the scene and picture that is being displayed.
Samsung has started rolling out the first software update to the Galaxy Watch 7. The update was first released in South Korea last week. It could be released in other countries over the next few days. It might solve the battery drain issue seen on some Galaxy Watch 7 units.
Galaxy Watch 7 gets first software update in the USA
Samsung has released a new software update to the Galaxy Watch 7 in the US. The update comes with firmware version L315USQU1AXG2 and has a download size of around 165MB. According to the official changelog, the new update improves the battery charging stability and the battery stability. It should also improve the overall device stability.
Some Galaxy Watch 7 users were complaining about low battery life, and the new update should fix those issues. However, the update seems to have been released on only some network carriers in the US. The Bluetooth-only version of the Galaxy Watch 7 has already received the update.
If you have a Galaxy Watch 7 and live in the US, you should now check for the new software update on your smartwatch. You can check for the update by opening the Galaxy Wearable app and navigating to Watch settings » Watch software update » Download and install.
The story continues after our Galaxy Watch 7 hands-on video.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra seems to have started receiving its first software update as well, but very few people have received it in the USA. It should be available in the next few days in most countries worldwide.
Now that Samsung has launched its flagship foldable phone for the year, there is only one brand yet to launch its flagship foldable, and that's Google. The company will announce the Pixel 9 Pro Fold on August 13. Chinese firms have already beaten the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in terms of thinness and hardware specs, and Google is about to do the same.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold is thinner, brighter, and better-specced than Galaxy Z Fold 6
The design and specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold have leaked before its launch. Per the leaked information, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold appears thinner and better-specced than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The next-generation foldable Pixel is reportedly 10.5mm thin (dimensions: 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5mm) when closed. That is 1.6mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
It is heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, though, at 257g. Samsung's new foldable weighs 239g, which is almost as light as the Galaxy S24 Ultra (232g).
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold's inner screen reportedly measures 8 inches diagonally, making it slightly bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's. Moreover, the screen is said to reach peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits, 100 nits brighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Pixel's cover screen is reportedly 6.3 inches diagonally, but it is wider with an aspect ratio of 20:9 as opposed to the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 22:9 aspect ratio.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems to have a 4,650mAh battery. That's 250mAh bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's battery.
The story continues after the video.
According to another leak, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has the Tensor G4 processor and 16GB RAM. The Pixel has more RAM than Samsung's foldable.
It has a 48MP primary camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide camera, a 10.8MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, and two 10MP selfie cameras (one on the cover screen and another on the inner screen). The telephoto camera has a higher zoom than the one on the Galaxy Z Fold 6
Despite being thinner, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems to be better equipped than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Of course, it has the advantage of having a bigger screen, which means Google has more width to fit a bigger battery and a bigger telephoto lens. However, it could have a weaker processor, as Tensor chips have been historically slower and less efficient than their Exynos and Snapdragon counterparts.
Hopefully, Samsung will bring a thinner and better-specced foldable phone with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim later this year.
Samsung was expected to release the One UI 7.0 update last week, but that didn't happen. We reported that the company delayed the release, and the One UI 7.0 beta update will likely be released later this month. Ahead of that release, a massive leak has revealed many One UI 7.0 features.
Several One UI 7.0 features have leaked weeks before the release
Reliable tipster Ice Universe has posted (via Android Authority) a list of some One UI 7.0 features on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. According to the tipster, One UI 7.0 has new app icons, a new background (wallpaper?) interface, and a new control area at the bottom of the lock screen. The lock screen shortcuts now seem to have bigger icons.
He also claims that the notifications area and the quick settings panel can be merged if the user wants to. Those pages can also stay independent (similar to One UI 6). There is apparently a pill-shaped animation that can display ongoing activities from more apps (like the timer). One UI 7.0 reportedly introduces a new animation while unlocking a device's screen.
Samsung has reportedly added animations that can be interrupted by the user (like opening an app from the home screen but stopping it by clicking the home screen). Moreover, the South Korean firm is said to have improved app opening and closing animations. The tipster said One UI 7.0 brings a new battery icon and a bar-shaped charging animation.
The South Korean firm seems to have added several new widgets (of various sizes) for the home screen and the lock screen. The tipster also claimed that One UI 7.0 will bring support for large-sized app folders on the home screen.
Ice Universe also confirmed that One UI 7.0 includes a completely redesigned camera app. The new version of One UI reportedly also supports SMS sending and receiving using the 5G network. There also seem to be new animations for notification pop-ups and closing animations.
Leaked One UI 7.0 features list:

Watch the leaked icons for the stock Clock and Samsung Internet apps in our video below. Those icons will be available with the One UI 7.0 update.
Samsung will likely open the One UI 7.0 Beta Program for the Galaxy S24 series before the end of this month. The beta program could be available in China, Germany, India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. However, the company's plans can change, so nothing can be said for sure right now.
Last month, Samsung unveiled its new foldable phones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds. After the announcement, several people started mocking Samsung and accused it of copying Apple's design language with the Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which reportedly made Samsung's chief angry at the mobile division for plagiarism.
Samsung chief Lee reportedly got angry and stepped in after accusations of copying Apple's design
According to a report from AjuNews (via @lafaiel), Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee ordered the company's mobile division, Samsung MX, to reexamine its plans. Lee's strict orders reportedly came after people accused Samsung of copying Apple's design language for the Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. They look like Apple's AirPods, AirPods Pro, and Apple Watch Ultra, respectively.
Apparently, actions have been taken against some people in the smartphone division, including Samsung MX leader (TM Roh). An insider reportedly claimed that tensions are rising inside Samsung MX after this move. He said, “The chairman (Lee) himself stepped in after the controversy over Apple's design plagiarism and quality issues surrounding the Buds 3 series and Galaxy Watch 7 released last month. The internal atmosphere is currently very bad.”
At the media briefing held at Samsung Store Hongdae in South Korea, reporters constantly talked about Samsung's new devices looking exactly the same as Apple's.
The Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro now have stems, similar to AirPods and several other wireless earbuds in the market. Their pinch and swipe gestures are also similar to AirPods. The boxy and chunky design and orange theme of the Galaxy Watch Ultra also look similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. Long-time Samsung fans have been disappointed with Samsung for dropping its own design language in favor of Apple's.
To make things worse, Samsung also faced quality control issues with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Some people received units with uneven gaps and fragile ear tips that are prone to tearing. Jay Y. Lee, who generally has a calm demeanor, reportedly shouted and gave strict orders to the Samsung MX division.

Since you can attach your printed photos to the Music Frame, it looks like a photo frame and fits into the aesthetics of your home's interiors. You can also change its bezels using its magnetic system.
Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice President at Samsung India's Visual Display Business, said, “Modern consumers are increasingly seeking products that not only blend functionality and aesthetics, but also add visual appeal. This trend is driven by a desire for products that reflect their personality and style, and enhance the overall ambience of their living space. The new Music Frame epitomizes exceptional technology in the form of a picture frame with its unique, elegant design while delivering a cinematic audio experience.“

Apple introduced big customization features with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Users can change the colors of app icons by choosing their preferred color. This feature has been present on Samsung phones and tablets in the form of Color Palette for a couple of years.
3. Editable quick setting toggles
One of the big customization features that Apple introduced at WWDC 2024 is the ability to create multiple pages in the Control Center and the ability to change the position of quick setting toggles and other elements. This feature has been present on Samsung phones for years.
4. Game Mode
Game Mode in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 suspends background activity to offer better gaming frame rates and reduces distractions from notifications. Samsung has the same features through Game Booster and its Priority Mode.
This feature on Samsung phones automatically optimizes the game settings to suit your device and usage. The Priority Mode lets you hide incoming calls and other notifications to improve your focus on your gameplay.
5. Hiding apps from the app drawer
Samsung has had the option to hide apps and games from the home screen of Galaxy phones for years. Apple has introduced it with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
6. Home screen with blank spaces
This is one of the most basic features that has been present on Android-powered phones and tablets from Samsung and other brands. Apple introduced that feature this year.
With iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, users can arrange app icons as they like, leaving blank spaces anywhere on the screen.
7. Lock screen customization
Samsung lets you change the left and right shortcuts on the lock screen. For example, you can choose any app or app actions from stock apps or select third-party apps. Apple has introduced this feature with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
8. Password manager
Samsung Wallet offers password management, letting you save login credentials for your apps, email accounts, and other online services. While Apple has had a basic password manager in the form of Apple Keychain for years, it has graduated to a full-fledged password manager called Passwords with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
However, it looks like Apple's Passwords app is more feature-rich, allowing you to share passwords with others. It will also be available on Windows through the iCloud app. This is something that Samsung Wallet doesn't offer.
9. Proofreading text and language tone suggestions
With the power of Large Language Models (LLM) and Machine Learning (ML), Apple introduced a way to proofread documents, emails, notes, and text messages. It also introduced writing style suggestions with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
Samsung introduced a similar feature earlier this year for Galaxy phones and tablets with One UI 6.1. It is available on most high-end Galaxy devices released a few years ago.
10. RCS support for messaging
Samsung phones and tablets have supported RCS for a few years now, and that feature will be available on iPhones running iOS 18. iPhones will now display the RCS tag inside the messaging field in the default Messages app on iOS 18.
Apple's smartphones will finally be able to send and receive high-quality images and videos from Android phones. Other modern messaging features, like stickers and typing indicators, will also be available when an iPhone user converses with an Android user.
11. Reminders integration with Calendar
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 can now display reminders created in the Reminders app inside the stock Calendar app. This feature was introduced by Samsung on Galaxy phones and tablets with the One UI 6.0 update.
12. Summarizing articles on the web
With One UI 6.1, Samsung brought the ability to summarize articles and webpages via the Samsung Internet web browser. The same feature is now available in the Safari web browser on Apple devices running iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
You can watch this feature in action in our video below.
While Apple has copied many of Samsung's features on its phones and tablets, the iPhone maker was able to catch up faster with AI-powered features.
Some of Apple's AI features are more advanced than those of Samsung. For example, Genmoji (an AI-powered custom emoji creator), extraction of important data from emails and messages, and Image Playground (a Gen AI-powered image generator) are quite impressive. Hopefully, Samsung will be able to catch up to those features with the One UI 7.0 update.
Files from Galaxy phones can be accessed more easily on Galaxy Book laptops via Windows 11
To access files stored on your Galaxy phone and tablet, you may not need to open the Phone Link app anymore. As spotted by X user @PhantomOnEarth, the File Manager app in Windows 11 will soon be able to display your Android phone as a shortcut. Once you click your phone on the app's sidebar, you can see all the files stored on your Galaxy device.
You can wirelessly import relevant files from your Galaxy phone or tablet to your Galaxy (or any other branded) laptop or PC. To enable this feature, you must enable the setting from the Settings app on a computer running Windows 11. To make this happen, the Phone Link app and the Cross Device Experience Host app act as a bridge between Android and Windows.
The story continues after our Galaxy Book 4 series hands-on video below.
The Phone Link app on Windows 11 already allows users to access images and videos stored on Android phones and tablets. However, other files, like documents, can't be accessed right now without using screen mirroring and dragging and dropping files.
The new File Manager integration for files stored on your Galaxy phone and tablet is under testing right now, and it could be released to some users soon via the Dev and Beta versions of Windows 11. Once the testing is done thoroughly, the feature could be released to all users with compatible devices and capabilities.
Samsung has always been big on UI customization. Its Good Lock app officially offers many deep UI and UX customization features on Galaxy phones. However, the company recently removed two features from Theme Park but is considering bringing them back after users' feedback.
Theme Park's folder and keycap customization could come back
It has been revealed (via @tarunvats33) that Samsung is considering bringing back custom folder and keycap shape options to Theme Park. These two features were recently removed after Samsung updated that app. This information was revealed by the official forum moderator from Samsung, who is in charge of communicating changes related to the Good Lock suite of apps.
Using this feature, users could create custom shapes for the folder on the app drawer and the home screen and for the keys in the Samsung Keyboard app.
The story continues after our video below.
Samsung's official forum moderator said that while the company's engineers are considering bringing back those two features, they can't say for sure whether they will. Hopefully, those customization features will return, and we will keep you updated on this matter.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is Samsung's next flip phone with a foldable screen, and it will likely be announced during the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10, 2024. However, it appears that the phone's cameras will be dead on arrival, as rival flip phones from other brands will have higher-resolution or telephoto cameras.
One such phone is Motorola's RAZR 50 Ultra. This phone has a bigger cover screen and a dedicated high-resolution telephoto camera.
RAZR 50 Ultra has a 50MP telephoto camera, while Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn't
According to leaked images (via @evleaks) and specifications of the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra, the phone has a 50MP primary camera with OIS and a 50MP telephoto camera with OIS and 2x optical zoom. Its selfie camera uses a 32MP sensor. All these cameras can record up to 4K 60fps videos.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly have a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP selfie camera. All its cameras can also record up to 4K 60fps videos.
While Samsung may offer an in-sensor crop for optical quality 2x zoom in the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the RAZR 50 Ultra will likely offer up to 5x optical quality zoom using the same method as Samsung's.
The other specifications of the RAZR 50 Ultra include a 6.9-inch 165Hz pOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 4-inch cover screen, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, 12GB RAM, and 256GB/512GB storage. It is reportedly powered by a 4,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging and wireless charging.
It will reportedly cost $999 in the US and €1,200 in Europe.
Watch our review of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the video below. The article continues after the video.
The RAZR 50 Ultra is expected to go official soon and become available globally in June, a month earlier than the Galaxy Z Flip 6. If these reports are accurate, the RAZR 50 Ultra looks better specced than the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Samsung's upcoming phone will have a more powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and much better software support (likely 7 major Android OS updates). However, its screen, cameras, and charging are not as good as Motorola's.
Which will you choose? Galaxy Z Flip 6 or RAZR 50 Ultra?
It remains to be seen if people prefer the Galaxy Z Flip 6 or the RAZR 50 Ultra. Even Xiaomi is expected to launch its first flip phone, which will reportedly feature three cameras: a primary wide-angle, an ultrawide, and a telephoto.
Samsung is expected to unveil its first laptop featuring Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor later today. This upcoming laptop is called the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, and its pricing and specifications were leaked over the past week. Now, details regarding the laptop's Bluetooth connectivity have been revealed.
Galaxy Book 4 Edge features Bluetooth 5.4
Ahead of the launch, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge appears to have passed through the Bluetooth SIG certification. According to the Bluetooth certification authority's database, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge has model number NP940XMA and features Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. This upcoming laptop likely uses the Snapdragon X Elite chipset's FastConnect 7800 subsystem for wireless connectivity. It features a built-in 5G modem, GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB 4.0 (Thunderbolt 3).
This listing also reveals that the Galaxy Book 4 Edge runs Windows 11. Previously leaked images of the laptop have revealed that its 14-inch version has a tenkeyless keyboard layout, a large trackpad, two USB 4.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The 16-inch version has a full-sized keyboard with a numpad, a USB Type-A port, and a microSD card slot in addition to all the ports on the 14-inch version.
Galaxy Book 4 Edge pricing and specifications
Both laptops feature the Snapdragon X Elite processor with 12 CPU cores and the Adreno GPU. However, the 14-inch version might use a variant of the Snapdragon X Elite with a lower clock speed for the CPU and the GPU. Both laptops reportedly feature 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It is unclear if these laptops will be available with higher RAM and storage capacities.
You can watch our Galaxy Book 4 Ultra hands-on video below. The story continues after this video.
According to some reports, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge Pro (16-inch) can last up to 22 hours on a single charge for video playback. This laptop version uses a 61.8Wh battery and features 65W fast charging. However, these figures are for offline 1080p video playback (150 nits screen brightness and Airplane Mode turned on). Real-life battery life will likely be half of the quoted figures, but even that is impressive.
The 14-inch version of the Galaxy Book 4 Edge will likely have a smaller battery. Both variants feature Super AMOLED screens with 3K resolution and 400 nits peak brightness. They will likely come with a 120Hz refresh rate and DisplayHDR 400 certification with HDR10+ video playback capabilities.
The Galaxy Book 4 Edge might start at around $1,800, while the Galaxy Book 4 Edge Pro might cost around $2,000. These laptops are said to go on pre-order today in some countries and become available for purchase on June 17, 2024.
Google is finally improving the design of Google Maps, which is slowly rolling out to some users with Android smartphones. This new version of Google Maps brings a new bottom bar with three tabs, as reported by 9To5Google.
This new design could be available for some Galaxy smartphone and tablet users. Other Galaxy users might get it in the next few weeks.
Google Maps gets a new bottom bar with three tabs
The new version (version 11.127.x) of Google Maps simplifies the bottom bar for all users. Instead of five tabs, it has just three: Explore, You, and Contribute. It still has all the functionality of the older version of the app, as the You tab includes features that were earlier listed in the Go, Saved, and Updates tabs.
In the You tab, there is no search bar. Notifications and Business Messages can be accessed from the top right corner of the screen. The Go section from the old version of the app is now named Saved Trips and resides in the You tab.
Google Maps still doesn't use the Material You design, and Google might be too cautious. The app is used by billions of users worldwide, and a sudden design change could confuse many users. Google announced this new design in March and has now started rolling it out to some users worldwide.
Quick Share can share files even faster via QR codes
Right now, Quick Share works by finding nearby compatible devices through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. However, finding devices can sometimes take a lot of time, particularly when the phones aren't connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Google has developed a way to make connections faster, and that's through QR codes.
The latest beta version of Google Play Services (v24.20.13) introduces QR codes that users can scan to initiate an instant connection for sharing files wirelessly via Quick Share. When sharing files via Quick Share, the user can click the ‘Share With QR Code' option, which generates a QR code. The receiver can then scan the QR code, after which both devices will initiate a connection for file transfer.
You can watch the improved Quick Share feature in our video below.
This new feature isn't live on Android smartphones and tablets but is expected to be released soon. The feature may go live on devices running Android 15 in the future.
The new Quick Share feature is available on Android TV, Chrome OS, and Windows. It is as close as Android users can get to Apple's AirDrop feature for sharing files, text, URLs, and other things.
Samsung has finally released the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy A54! The update has started rolling out in South Korea, and we expect it to hit the Galaxy A54 in many other countries and regions over the next few days.
The company has already released the One UI 6.1 update to several high-end phones, including Galaxy S21 (and newer), Galaxy Z Flip 3 (and newer), and Galaxy Z Fold 3 (and newer) in many countries.
Galaxy A54 gets One UI 6.1 update sans many AI features
The One UI 6.1 update is now live (via @tarunvats33) for the Galaxy A54 (Galaxy Quantum 4) in South Korea. It is a big update and comes with firmware version A546SKSU4CXDC. It doesn't bring the May 2024 security patch, though. If you have a Galaxy A54 and live in South Korea, you can now download and install the new update by opening the Settings app, navigating to Software update, and tapping Download and install.
You can watch many of the One UI 6.1 update features in our in-depth video below. The story continues after the video.
Since the update has been released to the Galaxy A54 in South Korea, we expect it to hit the servers in other regions, including Asia and Europe, soon.
As usual, Samsung will launch Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the second half of this year. However, there has been a lot of confusion regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and its possible variations. Some reports claim that Samsung will launch a cheaper (Fan Edition?) Galaxy Z Fold 6, while others claim the South Korean firm will launch a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, possibly with better cameras. A new report claims the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be canceled.
Cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 without S Pen compatibility reportedly canceled
According to a new report from TheElec, Samsung is reexamining its plans to launch a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 this year. The South Korean firm reportedly planned to launch the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 6 alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, it is said to have lacked the digitizer required for S Pen functionality, which means it lacked S Pen compatibility. The company is said to have recently completed the testing of the device, featuring an IPX8 rating and 200,000 folds rating, but it wasn't any thinner than foldable phones from rival Chinese firms. The mass production of Galaxy Z Fold 6 components is scheduled to start this month.
Due to insufficient product differentiation and market uncertainties, Samsung reportedly plans to cancel its launch. Per the report, only the standard Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be launched.
Watch our review of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the video below. The story continues after the video.
Cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be launched in 2025
According to the report, Samsung plans to launch a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 7 version next year. While the company's overall smartphone market share is less than 1% in China, its foldable smartphone market share is in the double digits. So, Samsung is trying to increase its market share with cheaper foldable phones.
Samsung MX CEO TM Roh said that over 100 million foldable phones could be shipped annually in the next five years. However, the company has fallen behind in the race. Foldable phones from Chinese firms have bigger and brighter screens, bigger camera sensors, bigger batteries, and faster charging. The company plans to be more competitive by releasing the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with better cameras, a thinner body, and improved durability.
Samsung will most likely launch the Galaxy S25 early next year, and the phone is expected to bring a big redesign. Apart from the new design, rumors claim it will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip in some countries and the Exynos 2500 in others. While both chips will most likely be quite powerful, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to feature an extremely powerful GPU.
Galaxy S25 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 might be able to run Genshin Impact at 1080p resolution
According to a report from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip has an exceptionally powerful GPU for enhanced graphics performance. The Qualcomm chip can reportedly run Genshin Impact at the native 1080p resolution. If you don't know already, Genshin Impact is widely regarded as the most graphically intensive smartphone game. Right now, the game is said to be running at 720p resolution by default, and even then, many phones struggle to maintain the 60fps frame rate mark with graphics quality set to the highest.
Watch our review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, in the video below.
Qualcomm has apparently sped up the development of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and is targeting its launch on October 1, 2024. This upcoming flagship chip is said to be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process and feature Qualcomm's custom CPU core called Oryon. These CPU cores are already used in the Snapdragon X Elite chip made for ARM Windows laptops. Since the company has already showcased the Snapdragon X Elite's performance, we can also expect impressive performance from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The only doubt remains regarding its power efficiency. Some rumors claim that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 isn't as efficient as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The first phone to launch featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is the Xiaomi 14, which could be unveiled in mid-October 2024. Some Galaxy S25 units are expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will likely be announced in early January 2025. Besides the new design and higher performance, the Galaxy S25 is rumored to bring improved camera sensors.

If you want to upgrade from your Galaxy S21, look at the Galaxy S23 or the Galaxy S23+ in our video below. Both phones offer brighter screens, faster processing, better cameras, and longer battery life than the Galaxy S21.
In Samsung Health, you can compete with yourself by comparing your workout results against your previous records. You can have more daily targets, including active hours and floors climbed. Women can record moods and physical symptoms while tracking their menstrual cycles in Samsung Health.
With One UI 6.1, Microphone Modes and Video Call Effects are easier to access. The Weather widget offers more information. You can open all minimized apps at once and input text using voice without leaving the keyboard. There are more ways to protect your Galaxy S21's battery while charging. The Finder screen now offers matching results from the web via Google Search. The update also adds the Google Messages app if it wasn't present.

A few days ago, it was revealed that the alarm on several iPhones didn't go off, and many people missed being on time for their work. And in classic Samsung fashion, the company did not miss the chance to troll Apple for this.
Samsung trolls Apple, says alarms on Galaxy phones go off
Samsung UK recently posted a short video (Reel) on its Instagram account, trolling Apple for the iPhone alarm bug. The video shows a cute dog, wearing a hat, dancing to the tune of a remixed version of Samsung's default alarm tone. It also shows the sentence, “Rest assured, our alarms GO OFF,” while the video's caption says, “Samsung users woke up on time today.” This remixed version of Samsung's alarm tone has a nice beat to it, and you can watch it below.
Due to an issue with the iPhone's settings, the alarms are not working correctly. However, not every iPhone is affected by this issue. Apple said it is aware of the problem and is working on a fix to solve it with a software update.
Last weekend, it was revealed that Samsung is launching the 128GB version of the Galaxy S24 in India. The company sent a press note to all its retailers about this new storage variant, along with its pricing. Now, the 128GB version of Galaxy S24 is available for purchase in India.
Galaxy S24 128GB now available in India
The 128GB version of the Galaxy S24 is now listed on Samsung India's website. It is priced at INR 74,999, but buyers can get an instant discount of INR 5,000 through HDFC Bank credit and debit cards. So, the effective price of the phone would be INR 69,999. The device is available in Amber Yellow, Cobalt Violet, Onyx Black, and Marble Gray colors.
The phone was originally launched in India with two storage options: 256GB and 512 GB. Pre-order benefits included an instant discount of INR 8,000. The 256GB version of the Galaxy S24 costs INR 79,999, while the 512GB version costs INR 89,999. You can watch our in-depth review of the Galaxy S24 in the video below.
The Galaxy S24 has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, HDR10+, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. It has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, an IP68 rating, stereo speakers, and Dolby Audio. It is equipped with the Exynos 2400 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery. Additional features include the Samsung Wallet and Galaxy AI features.
It has a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus and 4K 60fps video recording. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary rear camera with dual-pixel autofocus and OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera (AF, OIS) with 3x optical zoom. The phone runs Android 14 out of the box and will get seven Android OS updates.
Samsung introduced several AI-powered features with the Galaxy S24. Samsung called the Galaxy S24 its first AI Phone. It is the first smartphone brand to go big with AI, seeing the AI boom. And Apple will soon follow Samsung, but its approach will be a bit different compared to its South Korean rival.
Apple could only bring on-device AI features to iPhones with iOS 18
According to a report from Mark Gurman (via 9To5Mac), AI features on iPhones will be powered entirely by a Large Language Model (LLM) developed by Apple, and all the AI processing will happen on-device. We can expect Apple to heavily market the privacy and speed benefits of using on-device AI processing. These AI features will reportedly debut with iOS 18 and will be showcased during WWDC 2024.
While on-device AI has privacy and speed benefits, it isn't as powerful as AI processing offered by dedicated servers in the cloud. However, it is possible that Apple will only introduce AI features that work well with on-device AI processing. For example, it could offer better auto-replies and Siri requests.
This differs from Samsung's approach of using a mix of on-device and cloud-powered AI features. Samsung uses a mix of its own LLM and Google's Gemini for AI processing. Users have to option to process AI data locally on the device with a simple toggle. As seen on the Galaxy S24 and older phones that have received One UI 6.1 with AI features, some AI features work fast, while others are slow, depending on the workload and complexity.
While Apple hasn't revealed any AI feature that could debut with iOS 18, it could bring better language translation, more reliable autocorrect while typing, and advanced image editing features. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Apple was in talks with Google about using Gemini to power some AI features in iOS 18. However, it isn't clear if that deal has been agreed upon.
Samsung has released a new software update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G—yes, the 2020-launched model. If you still have that phone, don't get your hopes too high, as the update doesn't bring a newer version of Android or One UI. It is just a security update.
Galaxy Z Flip 5G gets April 2024 update in the USA
The new software update is now available for the carrier-locked and factory-unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G in the USA. The update for the carrier-locked version comes bearing firmware version F707USQS7IXC1 and is available on Sprint's network in the country. The factory-unlocked version of the phone is getting updated with firmware version F707U1UES7IXC1. It, too, is getting the update on Sprint's network.
If you have a Galaxy Z Flip 5G and live in the US, you can install the new update on your foldable phone. To do that, navigate to Settings» Software update, and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually. For the manual process, you would need a computer running Windows OS and the Odin tool.
If you want to use a foldable phone that can run the latest version of Android and One UI, check out the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in our review video below. It runs Android 14-based One UI 6 and will get three more Android OS updates in the future. It has a huge cover screen on the front, better cameras, faster processing, higher reliability, and longer battery life.
Over the past couple of years, Sony has been using Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels in its flagship TV models. However, that isn't the case this year, and Sony has switched to a Mini LED panel for its flagship TV mode for 2024. While it still uses LG's WRGB OLED panel in this year's model, it isn't pegged as the Japanese firm's top-of-the-line TV.
Sony's flagship TV for 2024 uses Mini LED panel instead of a Samsung QD-OLED
Sony's new TV lineup for 2024 includes just four TV models: BRAVIA 3, BRAVIA 7, BRAVIA 8, and BRAVIA 9. These model names are much simpler to remember and understand than Sony's previous naming scheme. The BRAVIA 3 is a regular LED-backlit (Direct LIT) LCD TV with no full array local dimming. The step-up is BRAVIA 7, which is a Mini LED TV, and it will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch sizes.
The next step up is the BRAVIA 8, which comes in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch sizes and uses LG Display's WRGB OLED panel. Compared to its predecessor (last year's A80L), it has thinner bezels, and that's about it. The BRAVIA 9 is Sony's top-of-the-line TV for 2024, and it uses a higher-end Mini LED panel with a lot more local dimming zones, higher brightness, and better colors. It comes in 65-inch ($3,299), 75-inch ($3,999), and 85-inch ($5,499) sizes.
You can watch our hands-on video of Samsung's QD-OLED TV lineup for 2024 below. It will compete with Sony's BRAVIA 8 and BRAVIA 9 TVs this year.
Sony will continue selling last year's A95L, which uses Samsung Display's QD-OLED panel, but it isn't clear if its stocks will last the entire year. So, if you want to get the Sony A95L, you should consider buying it sooner rather than later. As an alternative, you can buy Samsung's S95C or the new S95D QD-OLED TV. The S95C is a lot cheaper than Sony's A95L, while the S95D is cheaper and has a Glare-Free coating to prevent reflections.
The Japanese firm also launched two new soundbars, a five-speaker home theater unit, and a neckband “portable theater” called BRAVIA Theater U. Sony is using the term BRAVIA for its home theater and soundbar names for the first time. Its new soundbars have copied a few features from Samsung's soundbars, including Active Voice Amplifier, SpaceFit Sound, and Q-Symphony.
Samsung has released a new software update to the Galaxy A34 and the Galaxy A54. These two mid-rangers from Samsung are getting the April 2024 security update in several countries worldwide. In the next few months, they might get the One UI 6.1 update with some new features.
Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 get April 2024 security update in Asia, Africa, and Latin America
The latest software update for the Galaxy A34 comes with firmware version A346EXXS6BXD6 in the Philippines. In Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE, and Tunisia, the update comes bearing firmware version A346EXXS6BXD7. In some countries, including Israel, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, the phone is getting a new update with firmware version A346EXXS6BXD9.
The new update for the Galaxy A54 has been released with firmware version A546EXXS7BXD1 in Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Thailand, the Philippines, Uruguay, and Vietnam. In Chile and Thailand, the firmware version of the update is A546EXXS7BXD4.
These updates fix dozens of security vulnerabilities found in both these phones. The updates don't bring any new features or performance improvements, though.
If you have a Galaxy A34 or the Galaxy A54 and live in any of the countries mentioned above, you can install the new update on your phone. You can do that by opening the Settings app, navigating to Software update, and tapping Download and install. You can flash the new update manually by downloading the appropriate firmware file from our database and using a Windows computer and the Odin tool.
According to the information revealed by GalaxyClub, the Galaxy Ring will most likely come in nine sizes (US ring sizes 5 to 13). All these variants of the Galaxy Ring will likely come with different model numbers, and that information has now been revealed. You can see the list of model numbers of all variants of the Galaxy Ring below.
SM-Q500
SM-Q501
SM-Q502
SM-Q505
SM-Q506
SM-Q507
SM-Q508
SM-Q509
You might have noticed that some logical model numbers (SM-Q503 and SM-Q504) are missing from the list above. Likely, those models haven't been spotted yet, but they exist. The SM-Q500 will be the smallest size, while the SM-Q509 will be the largest size available.
Galaxy Ring features
The Galaxy Ring is expected to become available for purchase alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 sometime in July 2024. However, timelines aren't confirmed yet, and things may change. The Galaxy Ring features gyro and heart rate sensors, allowing workouts and sleep to be tracked. It could be quite comfortable to wear and last a week on a single charge.
The Galaxy Ring is for those who don't want to keep wearing a smartwatch all the time. However, it likely works with a Galaxy Watch for even more accurate health and workout tracking. While Samsung hasn't revealed the price of the Galaxy Ring yet, it could be priced lower than the Galaxy Watch 4.
Last year was terrible for smartphone brands, as sales declined year-over-year. However, not everything was bad. People have actually started spending more on smartphones, and a new report reveals how much people spend on average. Consumers in Samsung's home country spent the most on average on smartphones, bringing a good outlook for Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series devices.
South Koreans are lapping up Samsung foldable phones, resulting in rise of average smartphone selling price
According to a new report from market research firm TechInsights, South Korea, Japan, and the US were the top three markets with respect to smartphone Average Selling Price (ASP). The sales of Samsung's Galaxy Z series foldable phones are among the reasons TechInsights has quoted for the rise in smartphone ASP in South Korea. This figure is estimated to keep rising until at least 2029, which is great news for Samsung's foldable phones, especially since Samsung has multiple generations of foldable phones. Price growth has also been reported for iPhones in recent years.
In Japan, though, regulatory restrictions on smartphone subsidies have slowed the growth of ASP. Japan was the top-ranked country in terms of smartphone ASP until 2020, but South Korea topped it in 2021. The UK ranked fourth in 2023 but is expected to outgrow the US this year to rank third. This is due to the higher penetration of iPhones in the past couple of years and a faster upgrade cycle. However, the US is estimated to regain its third position in the next few years. The global smartphone market is estimated to grow by 3% in 2024 compared to last year.
While 2023 was bad, the future looks bright for the smartphone market. China, India, and the US are projected to lead smartphone growth. These three countries are expected to contribute almost half the global smartphone revenue by 2024. While India ranks 71st in average smartphone selling price, its massive population will drive revenue for OEMs. This makes India one of the best markets for smartphone brands to invest in, and Samsung is already in a great position. The company was the biggest smartphone brand in India in Q1 2024.
According to Abhilash Kumar, Industry Analyst at TechInsights, new smartphone form factors, like foldable and rollable phones, and deeper 5G penetration will improve smartphone average selling prices in the coming years. The complete TechInsights report, which includes data on 88 markets, can be read here.
Samsung has released a new security update to the Galaxy S23 in the USA. The update was released earlier this week, and the Galaxy S24 was the first to get it. Now, older phones are getting new update.
Carrier-locked Galaxy S23 gets March 2024 security update in the USA
The newest security update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with firmware version S91xUSQS2BXBD in the US. The update is currently limited to the carrier-locked units in the Galaxy S23 series. It brings the March 2024 security patch that fixes dozens of security flaws found in the previous software version.
If you have a Galaxy S23 series phone and if you live in the US, you can check for the new update on your device. You can do that by opening the Settings app, navigating to Software update, and tapping Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually.
Samsung could soon release the new security update to the factory-unlocked version of the Galaxy S23 in the US. In South Korea, the Galaxy S23 could get One UI 6.1 update and that could include the March 2024 security update.
Samsung could soon announce its new Galaxy A phones, the Galaxy A35 and the Galaxy A55. The leaks show that Samsung is trying to bring more high-end bits to its mid-range phones. The Galaxy A55 is expected to get a metal frame, the first for any Galaxy A series phone. But the Galaxy M55 could be the Galaxy A55 we actually deserve.
Galaxy M55 has Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
Some of the Galaxy M55 specifications have leaked over the past few months. It features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, a relatively new chip made using Samsung Foundry's 4nm process.
It has four high-performance Cortex-A710 CPU cores and four power-efficient Cortex-A510 CPU cores. Its Adreno 644 GPU has proven to be around 20% faster than the one inside the Snapdragon 778G that Galaxy fans loved from the Galaxy A52s. It is also similarly faster than the Mali-G68 MP5 GPU inside Galaxy A54's Exynos 1380 processor.
The Galaxy M55 is expected to feature 8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. From the looks of it, the upcoming mid-range phone should be powerful enough to handle most tasks, including gaming, proficiently.
People also love the efficiency of Snapdragon 5G modems, as they offer excellent sleep times. And when you pair that with the 6,000mAh battery and 45W fast charging that the Galaxy M55 is rumored to feature, it should result in extremely good battery life.
Galaxy M55 looks like a recipe for mid-range success
It has the potential to be a great mid-range smartphone, featuring a big 120Hz OLED screen, a capable Snapdragon higher mid-range processor, a triple-camera setup, possibly four Android OS updates, a gigantic battery, and 45W fast charging. Since the Galaxy M54 has 4K video recording on front and rear cameras, it is highly likely for the Galaxy M55 to have it too.
Usually, Galaxy M series phones forgo things like an IP rating and a premium design for a bigger battery and a lower price tag. If that holds true for the Galaxy M55 as well, it could please many consumers looking to buy good overall mid-range smartphones. I hope Samsung continues equipping the Galaxy M55 with OIS for its primary rear camera.
Editor's Note:Galaxy M55 will likely be launched only in a few emerging markets in Asia and Latin America, like Brazil and India. Going by Samsung's track record, the Galaxy M55 will likely be priced lower than the Galaxy A55. With a powerful processor, a big 120Hz OLED screen, a triple-camera setup, and a big battery, the Galaxy M55 will be really attractive to many potential buyers.
The only features that I now want Samsung to bring to the Galaxy M series are an IP67 rating and a higher-resolution ultrawide camera. According to my opinion, those two features matter more to people than a metal frame or an under-display fingerprint reader.
Last month, Samsung unveiled its new lineup of smart TVs that includes QLED TVs, Neo QLED TVs, OLED TVs, and Micro LED TVs. All these new TVs run a new version of Tizen (7.0) that brings new content, connectivity options, and features. They also feature Samsung Daily+, which is a central hub where users can find non-content apps, including live shopping, remote PC, telehealth, and video calling. To improve its telehealth services, Samsung has partnered with FlexIt.
Health, fitness, and wellness training content from FlexIt will be available on Samsung TVs with Samsung Daily+
Samsung announced today that it has partnered with FlexIt, a health and wellness solutions provider, to make exercise more accessible and convenient. The company will bring personal trainer-based fitness content to Samsung TVs that feature Samsung Daily+. Users can register, book, and pay for one-on-one workout sessions with personal trainers from FlexIt. The TVs can be paired with a compatible webcam or a Galaxy smartphone, and FlexIt trainers can offer users real-time feedback. Since the form is of utmost importance during workouts, personal trainers can offer form corrections and modifications.
In addition to workouts, FlexIt also offers information about diet and nutrition. Low-impact workouts like meditation and yoga are also offered in FlexIt's app. With Samsung Daily+, the South Korean TV maker wants to offer more than just content to users. The company's new TVs can control smart home devices and offer cloud-based work solutions, video meeting options, and even cloud-based gaming. Data from a Galaxy Watch, including heart rate and calories burned, is also displayed on a compatible Samsung TV. Last month, the company offered visitors an early look at Samsung Daily+ and FlexIt content at the CES 2024 expo in Las Vegas, USA.
Demian Hyun, VP and Head of the Experience Planning Group at Samsung Visual Display, said, “Wellness should be central to our routines, so building healthy habits through Samsung Daily+ makes it convenient to incorporate health and wellness into all different aspects of daily life. This new partnership underscores Samsung’s commitment as the leader in the global display industry to promoting thoughtful, interconnected health experiences aimed at bettering the lives of consumers.”
Now that all the hype around the launch of the Galaxy S24 has reduced, it is time for Samsung to focus on the launch of its next-generation foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are expected to debut in the second half of this year. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 5 was an iterative upgrade, people have high expectations of seeing something radically new with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The first set of Galaxy Z Fold 6 specifications have now been rumored.
Rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6 specifications
It is rumored by tipster @chunvn8888 that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be much thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. A previous report claimed that the phone will be just 11mm thin, making it Samsung's thinnest foldable phone. If this report is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be even thinner than the OnePlus Open (11.7mm). Moreover, the phone is rumored to be a little wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is said to have sharp edges and a titanium build, just like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. We can expect the phone to continue to feature an IPX8 rating for water resistance.
Another tipster, Yogesh Brar, claimed that the cover screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 6.4 inches diagonally, up from the Galaxy Z Fold 5's 6.2-inch screen. He also claimed that the cover screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9, while that of the inner screen is 1.08:1. If this information is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a wider cover screen and an almost square aspect ratio, exactly like the OnePlus Open. This should cheer up Samsung fans, and it looks like the South Korean firm has finally listened to its fanbase. But this rumor also brings some disappointing news. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 reportedly misses out on a built-in S Pen slot. If you were expecting to see a built-in silo for the S Pen stylus, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might disappoint you.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 reportedly features a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. It is said to come with an improved under-display camera on the cover screen. It is rumored to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a 4,600mAh battery. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 4,400mAh battery. A more power-efficient processor and a bigger battery should result in longer battery life. The phone is expected to come in three color options.
Samsung has announced the Galaxy Fit 3 today. It is an affordable fitness tracking band that succeeds the Galaxy Fit 2, which was launched in 2020. The Galaxy Fit 3 brings several improvements in design and feature set. It features a 45% bigger screen, more health-tracking features, and more emergency features.
Let us have a look at all its features.
Galaxy Fit 3 has 13-day battery life and a full-color touchscreen
The Galaxy Fit 3 features a 1.57-inch full-color OLED screen, allowing more information to be viewed at a glance. It also features an aluminum body with IP68 and 5ATM ratings for dust and water resistance. Its silicone band has a one-click detaching mechanism, making it easier to swap wristbands. The Galaxy Fit 3 has an accelerometer, gyro, and a heart-rate monitor, allowing you to track your activities, fitness, sleep, stress levels, and workouts. All of that data is then synced with Samsung Health via a paired smartphone. Sadly, it doesn't feature GPS for smartphone-free workout tracking.
Moreover, you can customize the Galaxy Fit 3 with over 100 watch faces via the Galaxy Wearable app. You can use the Galaxy Fit 3 as a remote shutter for your smartphone's camera or control media playback on a paired phone. Additionally, you can use the device to find your misplaced smartphone. It also features Emergency SOS and Fall Detection features, allowing you to contact your family or emergency contacts in such situations. It lacks a microphone and loudspeaker, so you can't use it to answer calls.
It can display notifications from your paired smartphone. Additional features include syncing of Modes with your Galaxy smartphone. For example, you can sync Do Not Disturb or Sleep mode on your phone with the Galaxy Fit 3. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Fit 3 can last up to 13 days on a single charge. While it doesn't run Wear OS, it has mini apps, including Calendar, Weather, and World Clock, that can come in handy.
Galaxy Fit 3 availability and release date
It comes in Gray, Pink Gold, and Silver colors. The Galaxy Fit 3 will be available in Asia, Central America, Europe, and South America from the 23rd of February 2024. It will be launched in South Korea in the future. While Samsung hasn't announced its pricing yet, we expect that information to be revealed in a few days.
If you want a fitness-tracking device that is more feature-rich and has GPS, you should consider the Galaxy Watch 6. You can watch its full review in our video below.
The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra were the first Samsung devices to run One UI 6.1, featuring several new AI features and additional tweaks. Samsung announced last month that it will release the One UI 6.1 update to older devices before the end of the first half of this year. The company has now offered a more accurate timeline for the release of the One UI 6.1 update.
One UI 6.1 update is coming to some high-end phones in March 2024
Samsung has announced that it will start rolling out the One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series at the end of March 2024. This update will bring several Galaxy AI features seen on the Galaxy S24 series to older high-end phones through a hybrid approach. Some AI features will work on-device, while others need an active internet connection.
By the end of 2024, Samsung aims to bring Galaxy AI features to over 100 million Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
List of AI features coming with One UI 6.1 to older Galaxy devices
The One UI 6.1 update will bring Browsing Assist, Chat Assist, Circle to Search with Google, Generative Edit, Instant Slow-Mo, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, and Transcript Assist to the devices mentioned above.
The Browsing Assist feature allows users to create summaries of articles or webpages, and it only works with the Samsung Internet web browser. It helps users read content and understand it faster.
The Chat Assist feature will enable users to adjust the tone of their language while messaging. Users can get grammar and tone improvements, and the feature works with messaging apps in 13 different languages. With the Circle to Search with Google feature, users can circle anything on the screen to get more information about it online.
With Generative Edit, users can select and erase unwanted objects from images. They can also choose and realign/reposition objects to make an image look like a great shot. They can also adjust images with bad angles and fill the remaining space with matching content created by Generative AI. The Instant Slow-Mo feature lets users turn any regular video into a slow-motion video. It uses AI to generate intermediate frames to double the frames in a video.
The Interpreter mode allows people to converse with others who don't speak their language. This mode opens in split-screen mode on conventional phones, foldable phones, and tablets. Words spoken by a Galaxy device user are transcribed and converted to any other chosen language. Translated text is then converted to voice so the other person can hear it in their language. Similarly, the Live Translate feature translates languages in real time during voice calls. It also works in supported messaging apps, including WhatsApp.
You can check out all these features in our in-depth video below.
The Note Assist feature helps users summarize the text in a note inside Samsung Notes. Summaries can even be used with certain text formatting templates. The Transcript Assist feature works with Samsung's stock Voice Recorder app. It transcribes voice in the recording to text and can even tag up to ten speakers so that users can understand things better. All that transcription can then be summarized, which is great for classes and meetings.
In our video below, you can watch other non-AI features introduced with the One UI 6.1 update. Some of those features, such as wallpaper support on Always On Display, will not be coming to any Galaxy smartphone or tablet launched before the Galaxy S24.
As for other Galaxy phones, many will receive One UI 6.1, but the AI features are currently expected to be exclusive to Samsung's flagship devices launched in 2023 and beyond.
TM Roh, President and Head of the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible. This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI.“
