The Elder Scrolls: Castles mobile game launches next month, pre-registration now open

The Elder Scrolls mobile game, The Elder Scrolls: Castles, is set to launch on 10th September.

The Elder Scrolls: Castles - which was quietly released into early access in September 2023 - is now open for pre-registration on both Apple and Android.

From the same "award-winning team" behind Fallout Shelter, The Elder Scrolls: Castles lets you reign supreme over your very own castle and dynasty within The Elder Scrolls universe.

Poll: How much do you pay for your phone plan every month?

Budgeting for a smartphone is an expensive undertaking. Do you fork out and grab one of the best phones around, or do you opt for something more affordable? There’s a lot to weigh up, but something that isn’t always considered alongside new hardware is the carrier plan. Whether you’re paying off your handset monthly or leaning on those voice minutes or high-speed 5G data, every modern user and handset needs a plan.

We’re spoiled for choice of phone plans in 2024, but one thing’s certain: no one wants to spend more than they really need. With that in mind, we want to know how much you spend monthly on your personal phone plan. We’re only interested in personal plans for a single user, not those covering multiple users or families. How much do you spend per month? Be sure to let us know by voting in our poll below.

We’re well aware that many of the feature-filled plans are priced above the $15 mark. Limited data and other cons often hamstring those paying less. After all, not all of us can afford unlimited plans. Moving to a postpaid plan is often a more attractive arrangement, especially if you don’t require a new handset. There are several plans at or below this price point worth your consideration, as detailed in our best prepaid deals for $15 or less guide.

When we last ran this poll in 2022, most users were paying $40 or more, with the $10 to $19.99 mark also proving quite popular. Importantly, we didn’t exclude family plans from that particular poll, but it’ll be interesting to see how inflation and other financial trends have changed users’ willingness or ability to spend.

Of course, our comments are always open. Be sure to include more details about your particular plan in the comments, including carrier, data, and other limits, and how it has treated you.

Received a suspicious link from T-Mobile? Here’s what’s going on

  • T-Mobile customers are receiving suspicious-looking links from official support channels, causing concern.
  • These links lead to secure forms hosted by a third-party company as part of T-Mobile’s new system.
  • While the links are legitimate, the unfamiliar URLs have caused confusion among users.

T-Mobile customers have recently been receiving unusual-looking links from its support channels, sparking concerns about potential phishing scams. However, these links are legitimate, though their appearance and origin have raised questions.

The Mobile Report has discovered that T-Mobile’s support teams, particularly T-Force, the social media support team, are now using a third-party service, Khoros, to host secure forms for customers. The links to these forms appear suspicious due to their unfamiliar domain name. One particular example highlighted involved a customer being directed to a “Handset Upgrade Form” shown below, but through a link that looked questionable at first glance.

T force form T Mobile

T-Mobile employees have spoken to The Mobile Report, assuring that these links are indeed legitimate and part of a new process to handle sensitive information more securely. Previously, T-Mobile hosted similar forms on its own servers using a T-Mobile domain. The shift to an external platform, particularly one unfamiliar to most customers, has understandably caused confusion and concern.

Adding to the unease, Khoros, the company hosting the forms, describes itself as a company that uses AI and automation to analyze “a treasure trove of data.” While this may be standard practice for many data-driven companies, we can’t downplay the potential risks associated with sharing sensitive information with third-party platforms.

While these links are legitimate in this case, customers should always exercise caution when clicking on links, even if they appear to come from a trusted source. If in doubt, it’s always best to contact the company directly through official channels to verify the legitimacy of any communication.

The 4 things prepaid carriers do better than postpaid in 2024

It’s no secret that I’m a strong proponent of prepaid services and I believe that postpaid carriers could learn a few things by paying attention to what some of their prepaid competition is doing. Of course, I will also freely admit that not everyone will find the prepaid experience good enough to meet their needs. The truth is there are still advantages to postpaid services that users might not want to give up, including prioritized data, better roaming coverage, phone selection, and perks. Nonetheless, there are at least four major aspects that I feel many prepaid networks are doing things better than the big three.

T-Mobile's social accounts weren't hacked, they're just using new fishy-looking links

Despite T-Mobile being rated as one of the best phone carriers in the US thanks to its blazing fast service and excellent coverage, news from the brand hasn't been all good, especially with some of its hiccups that have led some customers to sue the provider for its recent price hikes. Some might even say that the glory days are now gone, with the former Un-carrier now entering its villain phase as it tries to become the top carrier in the US.

Age of Empires Mobile Set to Launch Globally This October

A new Age of Empires is releasing this October but not one you expect. Age of Empires Mobile will be launching globally on iOS and Android devices on October 17.

This iteration of the famous real-time strategy series was co-developed by TiMi Studio Group (Call of Duty: Mobile, Pokémon Unite) and World’s Edge, a studio under the Xbox Games.

Here’s a rundown of the game’s features.

  • Multiple single-player modes built on the Age of Empires lineage and featuring iconic elements from the original series

  • Options to build your empire in a lively, realistic medieval world, featuring stunning civilizations, imperial cities and historical figures

  • Immersive battlefields offering one of a kind original gameplay with large-scale castle sieges, featuring realistic weapons taking on multi-dimensional defenses in a fight with thousands of players worldwide

  • Opportunities to be strategic as you encounter realistic and interactive terrain and weather and manage multiple troops with real-time micro-control

“We expect players to mystify, mislead and surprise their enemies through the realistic, immersive, medieval gameplay featured in Age of Empires Mobile,” said TiMi Studios team leader and studio general manager Brayden Fan.

“We’ve already seen alliances form and alliances crumble through our multi-month playtesting. Through it all, players have shown strategic wit, savvy teamwork and a passion for an entirely new Age of Empires experience.”

Age of Empires Mobile is already available in certain regions like the Philippines in an early access state, but it will officially be out worldwide on October 17 on Android and iOS devices.

Bethesda Announces The Elder Scrolls Castles for Mobile and is Releasing This September

Bethesda Game Studios announced a new mobile called The Elder Scrolls Castles, a construction and management simulation game from the team that delivered the free-to-play mobile and PC title Fallout Shelter.

This is an Elder Scrolls spin on the Fallout Shelter formula as you manage a castle and his subjects as the ruler as you build your dynasty as each ruler steps down and carries on your legacy.

You have the role to manage and build your castle as you see fit, maximize your ruler’s rule in the land, and ensure you have future sucessors’s to continue your family’s rule.

There will be automated combat in the game as you can send out subjects to take on quests for rewards that would benefit your kingdom. There’s an even a rogue-like mode where players take on waves of enemies to see how far they can go to earn bigger rewards.

The Elder Scrolls Castles Deep Dive

Here’s a quick description for The Elder Scrolls Castles.

Build your Dynasty – Tell your story for generations - each day in real life covers the span of an entire year in The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Train your subjects, name heirs, and maintain order to help your kingdom flourish. Will you keep your subjects happy and ensure a long life for their ruler? Or will they grow discontent and plot something sinister?

Manage your Castle – Customize your castle from the ground up, adding and expanding rooms, placing lavish decorations and inspirational monuments. Assign subjects to workstations to ensure your castle has the resources to thrive for years to come!Rule your Kingdom – Make key decisions that impact your legacy. Will you risk a limited supply of food to aid a group of subjects? How should a heated spat between your subjects be settled? Your choices determine if your dynasty will inspire prosperity or lead your castle to peril.

Take on Quests – A kingdom can’t thrive without strong warriors. Send your subjects on quests to battle against classic Elder Scrolls foes and collect loot to bring back home.

Pre-registration Rewards

Just like most free-to-play mobiles games today, pre-registration is a thing and with enough pre-registrations, those who register will earn in-game rewards when hitting each milestone set by Betheseda.

The first milestone will reward players 100 Gem, and 1 Blessing of Great Dynasty if the game recieves 500K pre-registrations. If it reaches 1M, players will also receive a legendadry pack and 3 banner decorations. At 2M, players will get a legendary subject called Ulfric Stormcloak.

Just like Fallout Shelter, The Elder Scrolls Castles will be free-to-play when it goes lives on Android and iOS on September 10.

Genshin Impact's Next Major Expansion Adds New Nation, Goes Live on August 28

HoYoverse announced that their free-to-play open world gacha game Genshin Impact is getting a major update at the end of the month. Version 5.0 will add the sixth nation of Teyvat which will come with various content and new areas to explore.

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from the 5.0 update, which is titled ‘Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn’.

  • New Nation: Natlan, the Nation of War, and Nation of Pyro, reveals the first three of six tribes

  • Open to early and mid-game players: Map unlock criteria – complete all Mondstadt Archon Quests and reach AR 19; Archon Quest unlock criteria – complete all of Liyue's Archon Quests and reach AR 28.

  • Transform into Natlan's Saurians: Tepetlisaurus (burrow underground, climb cliffs), Koholasaurus (swim), Yumkasaurus (reach great heights)

  • Tribes: Children of Echoes, Scions of the Canopy, People of the Springs

  • Characters: Kinich (5-star, Dendro, Claymore), Mualani (5-star, Hydro, Catalyst), Kachina (4-star, Geo, Polearm)

  • Banner: 1st – Mualani, Kachina, Kaedehara Kazuha; 2nd – Kinich, Raiden Shogun

  • Bonus to celebrate the anniversary

The new nation is called Natlan, and HoYoverse provided a good description of the new region.

The road to Natlan will open with an unlocked Teleport Waypoint that is accessible to players, even beginners and intermediates, who have completed the Prologue of the Archon Quest in Mondstadt.

Known as the Nation of Pyro, Natlan is located west of the Sumeru desert. The people of this nation are divided into six main tribes. The dragons of Natlan, more commonly called Saurians, are the result of a long evolution and have evolved to coexist with humans, and they have even become their faithful companions. With Version 5.0, players will be able to explore three of the six tribes, as well as encounter three types of Saurians who live together with the locals.

Mastering the abilities of the different Saurians can prove decisive in exploring the towering cliffs and flowing springs, and players can transform into a Saurian by indwelling them. The Tepetlisaurus are Saurians good at tunneling undergrounds and climbing cliffs, and they are the companions of choice for the Children of Echoes who call the canyons their home. The Yumkasaurus can pull themselves in the chosen direction and reach great heights with ease. They have taken up residence among the Scions of the Canopy, a tribe living suspended from the walls of steep cliffs. As for the Koholasaurus, they can move quickly on water and liquid Phlogiston, which explains why they are commonly seen with the People of the Springs near the sea.

Natlan, also known as the Nation of War, honors her warriors at the Stadium of the Sacred Flame, where the Champion of each tribe is chosen through a tournament. This is where the main story unfolds, as the player, accompanied by local warriors Kachina, Kinich, and Mualani, travel to the Stadium. To begin Natlan's Archon Quest, players need to reach Adventure Rank 28 and above, and have completed all of Liyue's Archon Quests.

New Characters

Those looking forward to the new characters will get to play around with Mualani and Kachina the moment Version 5.0 is in the first phase along with the Kaedehara Kazuha rerun. The new 5-star Kinich will debut during the second half and come with the Raiden Shogun. The stories for Natlan’s new characters will be available through the Tribal Chronicles, the new three-act quest chain.

Genshin Impact 4th Anniversary Celebration

The game’s 4th anniversary is just around the corner and HoYoverse is bringing back the special daily login event as players can earn up to ten Intertwined Fate, 1,600 Primogems waiting in their in-game mail, two exclusive gadgets — the Firstborn Firesprite and the Kabom Box, and more.

Furthermore, players can also invite a 5-star character from the Standard Wish lineup to their team for free. More updates on the Character Event Wish, Weapon Event Wish will be announced at a later date.

Genshin Impact’s Version 5.0 goes live on August 28, 2024.

Epic's mobile marketplace and The Plucky Squire's brave launch | GI Microcast

The latest episode of the GI Microcast is now available to download, taking a quick dive into the biggest stories of the past week.

Our main topic this week is the launch of the Epic Games Store on mobile, bringing Fortnite back to Android and (in the EU) iOS four years after Epic began its legal dispute with Apple and Google. We discuss the potential for alternative mobile stores, and Epic's goal to reach 100,000 installs before 2025 despite the 12 to 15 steps players must go through on each mobile ecosystem.

And in this week's What Do The Numbers Mean?, Chris takes a look at the long-awaited release date for Devolver Digital's The Plucky Squire, two fairly hefty (and one very similar) games coming out around it, and, of course, sales figures that offer a little more context.

Epic Games launches mobile store, bringing Fortnite and Fall Guys to iOS and Android

The Epic Games Store is launching on mobile today.

The Fortnite firm announced it will be bringing its games marketplace to Android worldwide, and to iOS in the European Union thanks to this year's Digital Markets Act requiring Apple to enable third-party stores on its mobile ecosystem.

Epic's mobile catalogue will begin with three titles, starting with Fortnite, which marks its return to iOS, as well as Rocket League Sideswipe (a spin-off of the popular racing sports game that launched in 2021) and the brand new Fall Guys Mobile. The latter will feature cross-play and cross-progression with the popular online game already on PC and consoles.

Apple updates fees and link options in EU following DMA breach investigation

Apple is updating its business terms in the EU to allow developers to link to external payment systems or promote offers form other platforms that do not use the built-in iOS payment system.

But these options will only be available to developers who agree to the updated terms, and Apple will still be taking a cut of each purchase.

In a post on its developer support website, Apple explains that it will claim a 5% 'initial acquisition fee' on any digital goods and services purchased during the first year after an initial install. This is for new users only and will not apply to customers already using the app before the new link out options come into play.

Genshin Impact is finally coming to Xbox

Od: Ana Diaz

Genshin Impact, the hit open-world adventure starring an anime-esque cast of characters, is coming to Xbox platforms on Nov. 20. Developer Hoyoverse announced the news as part of the Gamescom Opening Night Live stream on Tuesday.

Check out Polygon’s Gamescom 2024 hub page for all our coverage of the world’s biggest games event.

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play game that utilizes gacha mechanics. As people play, they accrue (or purchase) in-game currency that can be used to gamble for chances to unlock special characters. Since the game’s initial release in the fall of 2020, it’s become a massive commercial success. According to a 2022 report from Sensor Tower, the game had been downloaded more than 110 million times and generated more than $3.6 billion in revenue since release.

The game is currently available to download on mobile devices, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

The announcement comes just before Genshin Impact’s big 5.0 update on Aug. 28. This patch will bring an entire new region to explore called Natlan, a whole bunch of characters, and new quests. Although big updates like these tend to drum up buzz with fans over highly-anticipated characters, Natlan has faced the scrutiny of fans and voice actors who say the developers have “white washed” characters inspired by cultures from Latin America and West Africa.

Monopoly GO: All Tycoon Academy rewards and milestones

Monopoly GO Tycoon Academy event rewards

Back-to-school season is approaching quickly, and Monopoly GO is celebrating (or lessening the pain) by introducing some academic-themed events. The first in the bunch is Tycoon Academy, where you'll learn all about gathering dice and making a lot of money. At least, that's what we wish it'd be.

Although the Rocket Partners event recently ended, there's a chance another limited-time event will appear. If this happens, some of the cash rewards in this list will be replaced with point tokens. However, there's no confirmation of this happening yet, so we can safely assume most milestone prizes have cash instead.

How to score points during the Tycoon Academy event

You'll obtain points during Tycoon Academy by landing on Chance, Utility, and Tax tiles around your Monopoly board. Below are the points for each

  • Chance: Two points
  • Utility: Two points
  • Tax: Three points

These points increase with your dice multiplier, allowing you to get extra points from your partner event winnings if you won the grand prize. Outside of this, the strategy for maximizing your points is watching how close you are to the next tile on this list and adjusting your multiplier accordingly, alongside using resources like tournaments and free dice links to maintain your dice supply.

How to score points during the Varsity Victors tournament

You'll gain points during Monopoly GO's Varsity Victors tournament by landing on railroad tiles. Every railroad spot initiates a Landmark Shutdown or Bank Heist minigame with all kinds of different outcomes, with each point value listed below:

  • Shutdown - Blocked: Two points
  • Shutdown - Success: Four points
  • Bank Heist - Small: Four points
  • Bank Heist - Large: Six points
  • Bank Heist - Bankrupt: Eight points

Compared to the thousands of points you need to finish every reward milestone, two to eight points doesn't sound like much. The secret to completing the tournament in 24 hours is increasing your dice multiplier, allowing you to gain more points while spending extra dice per roll. You can also use power-ups like Mega Heist to unlock new outcome options that reward more points.

Age of Empires Mobile hlásí mírný odklad - INDIAN

Na chytrých telefonech a tabletech si Age of Empires do konce léta nezahrajeme. Společnosti Microsoft a TiMi Studio Group hlásí mírný odklad. Kdy se tedy známé real-time strategie dočkáme?

Age of Empires Mobile máme pro Android a iOS očekávat 17. října/októbra letošního roku. Kromě bitev v reálném čase nabídne hra rovněž manažerskou část se správou postupně se rozrůstajícího sídla.

Age of Empires Mobile bude free-to-play, tedy zdarma ke stažení, ale pochopitelně ve hře budou mikrotransakce. Zbývá zjistit, jak moc budou zasahovat z herního pohledu. Dle všeho si za skutečné peníze bude možné koupit suroviny (dřevo, jídlo, kamení a zlato). Dále zrychlení pro stavění, výzkum a výcvik vojska. A v neposlední řadě historické postavy.

What is Global Offensive Mobile? CS:GO on Mobile

Od: Shenny

Heads up, FPS fans! Another competitive shooter is coming your way on mobile. Known as Global Offensive Mobile, a CS:GO Mobile Clone has been recently spotted on the Google Play Store.

Keep this in mind— the game is not a mobile remake of any sort. Rather, it appears to be an exact clone of the original and classic PC game with its similar weapon list, assets, and game modes.

Is it Valve-backed?

First off, we need to clarify if this CS:GO mobile port is supported and backed by Valve itself. Unfortunately, Global Offensive Mobile is an unofficial, bootleg copy of the titular FPS game.

Valve is yet to show any interest in bringing over one of the most popular online games and eSports titles on mobile, but clearly— other developers are keen on testing the waters.

According to an official source, the game is published by ‘Cheese WT’ for Android devices. Global Offensive Mobile is only available in Thailand as of writing, with its Closed Beta Test stage up until February 18, 2021.

A mobile CS:GO port is expected to be popular within the Thai gaming community, where mobile gaming is gaining traction and continuous success. However, interested players from other regions may have to wait a while for the game’s official release date.

The publisher of the game hasn’t released the global version, but its beta version has been launched on APKPURE. It’s also available to add to the Wishlist on Google Play Store for now. There’s no information about the iOS version of this game yet.

Cheese WT also announced that they are planning to make the mobile FPS title compatible with more devices to cater to more gamers.

Global Offensive Mobile’s current game size is around 1.2 GB, hence a mid-end smartphone is ideal if you want the game to run smoothly.

CS:GO on Mobile

How exactly is the mobile game similar to CS:GO? For starters, “Global Offensive Mobile” blatantly copied a part of the title from Counter Strike: Global Offensive. This is already considered as a red flag by many.

Also, aside from being inspired by CS:GO elements, the game went on to clone the classic PC game experience on small, handheld devices. This includes the FPS gameplay, graphics, weapons skins, classic maps, markets, and more. The similarities are easily observable in the game’s official teaser images on the official Google Play Store page.

Some maps and weapons were directly copied from CS:GO, hence is why the game earned the rather reputation of ‘CS:GO Mobile’. It even has similar sound effects, voices, animations, and even weapon bullet trajectory.

Familiar game modes such as Deathmatch, Demolition, Casual, Zombie, and more are also present in the game. Developers also confirmed they plan to introduce new maps and game modes in the next updates.

At this point, long-time CS:GO fans and veterans might need to prepare the ultimate Mobile Gamer starter pack in anticipation for the game’s official global launch— if ever it pushes through.

A Striking Rip-off

It seems like the Thailand-based developer of the game isn’t afraid of any lawsuit from Valve, or most likely, they’re showing Valve the potential of their game.

The mobile shooter features 6 game modes and 6 different maps as of writing, 3 of which are Dust 2, Inferno, and Mirage. The maps are taken directly from CS:GO, with no intention of even changing the names. Even the iconic “Go go go” tagline is used by the mobile title.

Most notably, all weapons from CS:GO are also present in this supposed mobile version. Each weapon is a perfect copy as they also function similar to the original. The game looks visually stunning, considering it is made in the Unity engine. Even the in-game controls seem to be perfectly adapted for the mobile platform.

Perhaps the only notable differences between the two is one new map, new skins and different operators.

With a couple of teaser trailers and gameplay clips, the mobile game became a trending topic on the internet in the past month. It has captured the attention of FPS gamers and enthusiasts alike, who might be feeling nostalgic of their CS:GO glory days.

Demolition Game Mode

One particular description of Global Offensive Mobile’s demolition game mode, aka Bomb Mode, reads:

“Bomb Mode Divide players into 2 sides, red team and blue team. The red team had a player carrying grenades. Install the grenade in the designated location. Destroy the enemy’s strategic points or kill all enemies.”

“The blue team must interrupt the enemy and install bombs. Either defuse the bomb after it is installed Or kill all enemies When the time is up The red team cannot successfully mount a bomb, the blue team wins.”

However, instead of having Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists, the teams are simply named Red and Blue.

The Trend of Mobile Gaming

It’s not a surprise to know the CS:GO mobile clone is backed by South East Asian developers, considering the huge success of the mobile gaming industry in the region.

Esports remain to be a relatively new concept in Southeast Asia, as compared to traditional PC games such as DoTA 2 and of Legends, but it is growing at a steady, exponential rate.

For example, the battle royale title Free Fire was the most downloaded mobile game of 2019, beating out heavyweight PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds Mobile. The game also passed the US $1 billion mark in total revenue for the previous year.

In general, the SEA region generated game revenues of $4.4 billion in 2019. Mobile gaming, specifically, accounted for $3.1 billion of the 2019 revenues— which is over 70% of the market according to Newzoo.

With iconic games such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, League of Legends, and PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds getting their own mobile ports— it was only a matter of time for CS:GO Mobile to appear in the picture, at least its rip-off version that is.

There are a number of thriving eSports titles on mobile with prize pools on par with PC LAN tournaments, and if you want to get to know more about these games you might want to check out our well-curated list.

In-game transactions

Like many other free-to-play games, it seems like Global Offensive Mobile plans to rely on in-game microtransactions to make profit. Like its PC predecessor, the mobile game already revealed a number of available cosmetic skins for different weapons.

With a diverse weapon system of over 40 weapon types, the demand for weapon skins will undoubtedly sell like hotcakes. What makes any FPS game more enjoyable and interesting is the addition of fancy skins— either for personalization purposes or simply bragging rights.

If you’re a free-to-play player, fret not! You may also obtain various, equally stunning exclusive weapon skins in some seasonal events without having to spend a single cent.

Possible Lawsuit

Currently, Valve has not yet publicly acknowledged Global Offensive Mobile nor did it mention anything about the alleged CS:GO mobile clone.

The CS:GO community, especially long-time fans, were quite taken aback to see that the mobile game had blatantly copied maps, gun models, title, and other such features from the beloved PC game.

Some fans believe this would certainly warrant a heavy lawsuit from Valve, while a few others had some controversial theories of their own, especially on Reddit.

“It’s a csgo rip-off. If it’s not Valve related it’s a mega lawsuit for the creators.”

“Unless this game actually comes to global as CS:GO Mobile and this beta currently is like a testing ground release for china playerbase this game don’t stand a chance of staying.”

“Gameplay in general can’t be patented, but the name “Global Offensive Mobile” is certainly something that can be contested legally.”

“From the looks of it they also straight up ripped the weapon and knife models lmao, no chance this stays up.”

The Hype Beyond SEA

The game has also garnered the attention of interested players from countries like Brazil and Turkey, where mobile gaming proves its growing potential.

Notably, similar mobile FPS titles like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile have established a burgeoning mobile eSports in these regions. If Global Offensive Mobile pushes through with a global launch without any objection from Valve, although highly unlikely, then an eSports scene for the mobile title may soon begin to appear in the picture.

Bottomline

It was only a matter of time for a CS:GO mobile title to be published, regardless of whether it was officially supported by Valve or not.

Considering the global popularity of CS:GO, Global Offensive Mobile, its most palpable clone on mobile— shows some great potential in the mobile gaming industry even prior to its global launch.

The nostalgic CS:GO assets and the idea of bringing the iconic FPS experience over to mobile is just one of the many reasons why it’s one of the most anticipated mobile games right now.

10 of the Best Games for iPhone and Android

Od: Shenny

It’s no surprise to know mobile gaming continues to take on the gaming industry by storm. According to Statista, total smartphone gaming revenue was estimated at over 63 billion U.S. dollars worldwide in 2020 alone.

Since mobile media takes more of our time, the daily time mobile users use their devices is expected to grow to 234 minutes by 2021. More internet users across the globe are now using their smartphones to browse the web and play games, rather than the traditional means of using a PC or laptop.

With that in mind, here are 10 of the best upcoming mobile games for both Android & iOS devices you shouldn’t miss!

Apex Legends Mobile

This popular Battle Royale title will soon have its official mobile port debut! Slated for a 2021 release, Apex Legends fans can expect to experience the battle for glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier— all on the small screen.

Apex Legends Mobile is being developed by Tencent and Respawn Entertainment. If everything goes according to the plan, the mobile version of the game may launch by October 2021.

Choose among a growing roster of powerful, diverse Legends, each with their own unique personality, strengths and abilities. Brace yourselves for deep tactical squad play and new innovations that will truly take your Battle Royale experience to the next level.

Since Apex Legends is known to have a number of huge maps, it’d be difficult for outdated, old mobile devices to smoothly run such a demanding game.

Ideally, players must have an A11 Bionic chip in their iOS devices to run Apex Legends mobile (iPhone 8 – above) while Android users will need at least a Snapdragon 625 processor or even better.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Heads up, The Witcher fans! An AR game is coming your way on mobile. The Witcher: Monster Slayer features a combat system and is heavily reminiscent of the original game series’ elements.

The location-based augmented-reality RPG challenges players to become a professional monster hunter, where they can venture out into the world and use their mobile devices to track witcher-world monsters that roam close-by. Much like Pokemon: Go!

Set long before the time of Geralt of Rivia, start  your journey as an elite monster slayer. Be careful, as dangerous beasts may now be surrounding you. An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but fans are anticipating its arrival in 2021.

Diablo Immortal

Blizzard officially confirmed its plans to bring the ARPG classic franchise to mobile phones!

Diablo, considerably one of the world’s most popular action role-playing game (RPG) series, will be known on mobile as Diablo Immortal. It is a mobile Massively Multiplayer Online Action RPG (MMOARPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment in partnership with NetEase, coming exclusively to Android and iOS.

It will be a touchscreen-controlled take on the classic Diablo ARPG formula featuring new character classes, gameplay mechanics and locations. Fans will have to wait for news from Blizzard on a confirmed official release date, with more beta tests planned later this year.

Here’s a more detailed description from the game official website:

“Experience the world of Sanctuary, teeming with monsters and adventure, zones and dungeons to scour for legendary loot, and deep customization systems iconic to Diablo.”

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier

Do you have what it takes to become history’s first SOLDIER? FF7: The First Soldier, a battle royale spin on the titular classic franchise, is coming to Android and iOS devices later this year.

The battle royale prequel is expected to feature a typical multiplayer shooter gunplay, but with magic spells (fireballs, cures and shield barriers,) Final Fantasy summons, and Chocobos on the battlefield. Players will also have a plethora of weapons, items and abilities at their disposal.

Based on its teaser trailer, the Shinra Electric Company is looking to upgrade its military forces by forming the Soldier program— which apparently puts them to the test in a big multiplayer fray.

Square Enix confirmed in a news release that the upcoming mobile title is set before the events of Final Fantasy 7.

Pokémon Unite

Pokémon meets League of Legends? Sign us up! Pokémon Unite is considered as Pokémon’s League of Legends-style spinoff in a nutshell. This strategic team battle game is developed by The Pokémon Company and Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios.

The concept of a Pokémon MOBA game shouldn’t surprise its fans, as battling is one of the series’ primary defining factors. The free-to-play game also switches the usual aggro-focused MOBA formula to be more about competing to catch different Pokémon.

Players go head to head against each other in 5-on-5 team battles, where they will have to work with their teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon.

The goal also includes taking control over multiple points across the map and earning more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.

Pokémon Unite is set to be made available for cross-platform between Switch and mobile.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

Wands at the ready, Harry Potter fans! It has been years since the last Harry Potter movie but the magic continues to live on in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. The mobile game for iOS and Android is now available for pre-release registration in China.

The game combines RPG story-telling and card-based combat, with the premise set in the 2008–2009 school year.

The game is developed by Warner Brothers and Netease under the Portkey Games umbrella and was first announced on October 30, 2019. A confirmed global release is yet to be announced— so stay tuned!

Stumble Guys: Multiplayer Royale

Fall Guys on Mobile? Check out Stumble Guys: Multiplayer Royale! It’s arguably the best Fall Guys clone on mobile, featuring a massively multiplayer party knockout game with up to 32 players online.

It also has the same vibrant cartoonish graphics to that of its PC counterpart. The challenge is to struggle through levels round after round of escalating chaos, until one victor remains.

If you end up falling in your tracks, it’s not game over yet! Just make sure to start again and run. Dive into ridiculous challenges, bizarre obstacles, and knock down your rivals to totally wipe them out of the game.

As of writing, Stumble Guys is currently only available on the Google Play Store. The iOS version is reportedly still in development.

PUBG: New State

Let’s add a little more modern warfare dash to the traditional PUBG formula with the futuristic new battle royale game PUBG: New State. Set in 2051, the mobile BR title takes place years after the current PUBG games (which are set in approximately modern times) on a new map called Troi.

It promises to bring a new addition of futuristic weapons and vehicles, such as drones and deployable combat shields. New State is set to dive deeper into the lore of the overall PUBG universe, much to the delight of long time PUBG and BR fans.

Like other BR titles, only the strongest will be hailed as the “Lone Survivor” in this epic showdown.

PUBG Studio promises “ultra-realistic graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming” for the action-packed mobile BR title. It will be available on Android and iOS devices sometime later in 2021, with alpha tests scheduled for later this year.

Global Offensive Mobile

Although this mobile FPS shooter is currently in its closed beta stage, it is possibly the most blatant CS:GO clone on handheld devices.

It is developed and published by a Thailand-based gaming studio called “Cheese WT.” Some long-time CS:GO fans might believe it’s the official CS:GO mobile version, but this project isn’t actually supported by Valve, at all.

There are obvious similarities between Global Offensive Mobile and CS:GO, though, from weapon skins to classic maps like Inferno and Dust II. This also includes all the fan-favorite CS:GO weapons.

As for its official release date, no exact announcement has been confirmed for Global Offensive Mobile just yet. Regardless, it is expected to release sometime in 2021.

Dragon Quest Tact

With over 10 million downloads in Japan, DRAGON QUEST TACT finally comes to the West. The free-to-play mobile tactical RPG will be heading over to Android & iOS soon.

This strategy RPG will have players team up with some familiar monsters from the classic series. Players must befriend, collect, and train iconic DRAGON QUEST monsters to charge forth to epic battles.

In keeping true to its gacha nature, players can also train, customise, and expand their crew of choice as they continue along on their quest. Gradually, you can make them unique to you. At this point, it’s turning out to be a must-play for Dragon Quest and gacha fans.

In case you missed it, the DRAGON QUEST™ series helped define the RPG genre and set the standard for the early titles that followed.

Whether you are new to the series or you’ve been playing from the beginning, this new mobile title will surely give you a new unforgettable adventure!

Interview: Xbox Game Camp Asia - Ranida Games Share Their Experience

I was fortunate to sit down and talk to Ranida Games’ CEO and studio head Ben Banta, along with the head of business development, Walter Manalo. Ranida Games participated in the recently concluded Xbox Game Camp Asia event, and they shared their experiences and also gave us a glimpse into the current state of video game development in the Philippines.

Ranida Games, based in the Philippines, started in 2015 and is known for infusing Filipino culture into its games. Their notable titles include the mobile game PBA Basketball Slam, which features official PBA licensing, and Bayani, a PC and mobile fighting game inspired by revered Filipino historical figures like Jose Rizal and Andrés Bonifacio.

What is Xbox Game Camp?

The program, which started in 2020, aims to "empower people from traditionally marginalized communities and non-traditional backgrounds to realize their potential in the gaming industry and grow thriving games communities and industries around the world." It has had different iterations in various regions, including Africa, Sweden, Korea, and now Asia.

Opportunities for local Filipino game studios to gain such exposure are rare. Banta and Manalo shared that they eagerly embraced this opportunity despite their years of experience in the industry. The team was "hungry to learn".

"Even if we are veterans, it doesn’t mean we know everything," Banta said. The program allowed them to be mentored by industry professionals, providing insights and advice on game design, narrative, and marketing. Banta was particularly thrilled to be mentored by veterans like Ken Lobb, known for his work on the original Killer Instinct game. This was an event that took place over a few weeks through online sessions.

Xbox Game Camp as a Creativity Catalyst

At Xbox Game Camp Asia, participants were tasked with either enhancing their current projects or starting something new. Ranida Games, known for fighting and sports games, stepped out of their comfort zone to pitch a narrative-driven cooking simulator game called Soul Food.

They produced a trailer for Soul Food and polished the concept for Xbox Game Camp Asia. The game features a cyberpunk-like setting where players create food that can potentially bring back customers' lost memories. It’s a crazy mix of ideas and concepts developed in a short time but showcases how programs like Game Camp can inspire creativity.

Ranida Games plans to reveal this project to the public at this year’s PGDX but time will tell if it's a project the studio will pursue to completion.

Xbox's Support for Southeast Asia

Xbox’s presence in the region and its outreach to local studios like Ranida Games provide developers like Banta and Manalo with more confidence in the future as they continue tackling new projects.

"Xbox being in Southeast Asia gives us the confidence to know there’s someone we can reach out to and ask for help,"

Both Banta and Manalo emphasized the value of Game Camp, highlighting how the studio can revisit previous sessions and utilize the resources provided to elevate their game development process.

Addressing Industry Challenges

With Xbox’s growing support for developers worldwide, it puts a spotlight on the other challenges in the Philippine video game industry. Studios like Ranida Games have been fortunate to operate for years, but much is still lacking.

Mentorship and Learning: One of the critical needs identified by Banta and Manalo is the importance of mentorship. Despite their experience, they emphasized the value of learning from industry veterans. "We want to learn so we can teach," they said, highlighting the necessity for continuous education and knowledge sharing within the industry. Programs like Xbox Game Camp greatly help here.

Accessibility to Development Kits: Accessibility remains a significant issue. Although Ranida Games specializes in mobile and PC platforms, they face challenges in expanding to consoles due to limited access to development kits. This barrier hampers their ability to diversify and reach broader audiences, or have the opportunity for their developers to learn development in those platforms.

Budget Constraints: Budget constraints are another major hurdle. While Ranida Games aspires to develop its own titles, financial limitations push teams to juggle outsourcing projects to support larger endeavors abroad. This issue is prevalent across many local studios in the Philippines, where outsourcing services are often the primary source of revenue. The need for financial support and investment is critical for these studios to thrive independently.

Public Perception and Comparisons: Banta and Manalo also shared that local developers often face unfair comparisons to triple-A titles. With their games, such as PBA Basketball Slam and Bayani, being compared to franchises like NBA 2K or Tekken, there is a need for greater public awareness of the unique challenges and achievements of local game development. Increased recognition and understanding can help shift perceptions and garner more support for homegrown talent.

Despite these challenges, there is optimism for the future. Banta and Manalo believe that showcasing Filipino innovation and creativity is key to advancing the industry. Events like the 2024 PGDX, which feature sections for indie developers, provide much-needed exposure and opportunities for local talent to shine. The presence of foreign visitors from the video game industry at such events further enhances the potential for international recognition and collaboration.

The Road Ahead

The experience of Ranida Games at Xbox Game Camp Asia highlights the transformative potential of such programs for game developers in the Philippines. Through valuable mentorship, creative challenges, and exposure to industry veterans, studios like Ranida Games are gaining the tools and confidence needed to innovate and grow.

Ranida Games soldiers on. I’ll keep an eye on Soul Food and see how that project materializes. As for other projects, they did mention development on Bayani stalled but is now back on track to release a new character for their fighting game. Bayani is still in Steam’s Early Access program since 2019.

Despite the significant hurdles of limited access to development kits and budget constraints, the passion and talent of Filipino game developers remain undeniable. For Banta and Manalo, mentorship and support are critical in bridging the gap between potential and realization.

Hotly Anticipated TCG Eerie Worlds Gets a Mid-September Launch Window and a Philippines Soft-Launch

Having cut its teeth on Cards, the Universe and Everything, developer Avid Games is taking a microscope to just one facet of world culture: the horrific.

Eerie Worlds is a trading card game (TCG) with an unhealthy preoccupation with the occult, taking on spirits, specters, monsters, myths, and folktales from a vast array of world cultures, from North American to Japanese.

And it’s getting a soft-launch in the Philippines.

Like Cards, the Universe and Everything, Eerie Worlds is a meticulously researched game, packed with info on everything from Abhartach, the diminutive vampire of Irish legend, to Jikininki, the man-eating ghost of countless Japanese nightmares (and now yours).

So how do you find yourself rubbing shoulders with this army of ethereal monstrosities?

The barriers that separate the various planes of reality have started to break down, creating rifts through which supernatural beings are able to pass into our own realm.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it—and you have to, or the world will end—is to win control of these rifts and use them to create your own horrific army of wraiths and beasts, in the form of a deck of cards.

These cards go together to form an ancient grimoire, which is the name for your collection and also your guide to the properties of your eldritch units, allowing you to make the best possible use of them in battle.

In practical terms, that means engaging in fast, exciting duels using compact decks consisting of a vast number of potential cards.

Right now, Eerie Worlds boasts eight different card sets, organized into four color-coded Alliances (Grimbald, Zerrofel, Rivin, and Synnig) and four Hordes (such as Yokai and Slavic).

Each of these sets contains six Common cards, four Rare cards, three Epic cards (with four upgrades), two Fabled cards (with five upgrades), and finally a World card.

Four more sets will be released in the next few months.

Eerie Worlds now available in the Philippines

Avid Games is tweaking and finessing Eerie Worlds using the feedback from lucky players in the Philippines, but you should be able to play it for yourself when the game launches globally in mid-September. Those interested can visit the game’s page on Google Play right now.

Sword of Convallaria Reroll Walkthrough

How to Reroll

The reroll system for Sword of Convallaria only works on the mobile version so they’ll have to be done there and then bind to PC. The process is likely to be familiar to regular gacha players.

You can make guest accounts to play a new file, with each new account finish the tutorial and collect as many rewards and currency as possible. Then go through the freebies and guaranteed banners that you get with a fresh account and your opening currency.

If you don’t like the outcome of the pulls, start a new game on a fresh guest account and delete the previous one before repeating the steps until you get a pull that you like.

This isn’t too bad as the tutorial is short although you may get tired of replaying some parts of the level as you attempt to get the best roll. Once you’re happy with the pull then bind that account and play it as your main.

Who to Reroll For

There are a few specific units that are desirable and will make your account competitive for the long-term. If you can then get all three but even getting any two of Beryl, Gloria, and Inana will have you set up for success.

Epic removes Fortnite from mobile app stores to prepare for own store launch

Epic Games is pulling Fortnite and other games from mobile app stores ahead of the launch of its own digital storefront on iOS and Android.

In an announcement, the publisher said it would be ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores "that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer [it] a special deal on [its] own games."

Epic also revealed it would be removing Fortnite and its other titles from the Samsung Galaxy store due to the company's decision to block side-loading by default on Samsung devices.

Does a game being 'mobile-first' limit the amount a developer can charge on console?

Some of the biggest titles of the past few years have demonstrated that mobile platforms do not need to be a lesser alternative to a title's home console editions.

Genshin Impact – consistently one of the most popular action-adventure games with gacha elements on the market – was simultaneously released for Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, and PC in September 2020, and for PlayStation 5 a year later. Other titles from major IP holders are now set to have simultaneous releases across both home consoles, PC, and mobile devices.

That is the result of increasing parity in performance between devices, and companies like Netflix investing heavily in bringing games to mobile devices through its app. Games like the upcoming Tales of the Shire are set to release on Netflix on day one, and the recently-released Paper Trail also launched simultaneously on the platform and on PC/consoles.
