Tim Sweeney: "No regrets" on Fortnite app store drama, as Epic Game Store launches on mobile in Europe
Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney has said he has "no regrets" over his company's decision to break Apple and Google's terms of service back in August 2020 - something that saw the hugely-popular Fortnite booted off both iPhone and Android storefronts.
The carefully choreographed stunt sparked four years of legal wrangling over Apple and Google's app store policies - and has ultimately led to Epic Games launching its own mobile store today on Android worldwide and on iPhone in mainland Europe, thanks to policy changes demanded of Apple by the EU.
"We've probably lost a billion dollars not having Fortnite on iOS the past four years," Sweeney said, in a briefing to press ahead of the Epic Games Store on mobile going live. "But what's the price of freedom?"

Epic Games Store goes mobile, brings Fortnite and other games to iPhones (in the EU) and Android (around the world)
Six years ago Epic Games launched mobile versions of popular game Fortnite for Android and iOS. Both Apple and Google kicked Fortnite out of their respective app stores, and a long-running legal […]

Fortnite se vrací na iOS. Nový launcher je dostupný jen v EU, pro Android celosvětově - INDIAN
Dlouhá cesta Fortnite na přenosná zařízení je u konce. Zahrnovala stažení z obchodů, soudní procesy i obstrukce. Více si o ní můžete přečíst například v našem článku z července. Epic na mobilní zařízení vydává Epic Games Store, launcher pro jeho mobilní hry.
Ten je dostupný jak pro Android, tak právě pro iOS v zemích Evropské unie. Kvůli změnám v zákoně o digitálních obchodech totiž musí Apple povolit instalaci aplikací i z jiných zdrojů než z App Store. Nyní si tedy můžete stáhnout Epic Games Store ze stránek Epicu.

Fortnite is Shaking Up Item Exclusivity In Battle Passes
Fortnite and Epic Games have dropped some news today that may split its fanbase: they’re changing the rules surrounding item exclusivity in the Battle Pass.
Many fans of Fortnite have been vocal over the years regarding item exclusivity in previous battle passes. Fan favourites like God of War‘s Kratos have been rumoured to receive rereleases, and other incredibly rare skins like the Golden Agent Peely haven’t been available since its release back in Chapter 2, Season 2. But today, all of this may have changed. Epic Games has announced a fundamental change to its battle pass offerings. They will offer exclusive items from retired battle passes in the item shop.
Epic Games has posted a change of policy on their official site, saying battle pass exclusives, all of the battle pass exclusives, “can” appear in the item shop after 18 months have elapsed since the battle pass has concluded. It’s important to note, that just because the new policy includes “all items” from previous battle pass offerings, Fortnite could decide to keep some outfits locked away in the vault.
The same can be said for the alternate versions of items. Usually, battle pass offerings come with two variants of specific character outfits — the Golden Agent above also comes in a tuxedo variant — and Epic bluntly stated that if a certain item is included, it does not mean that the other variant will be included or ever offered. It’s worth mentioning that if a certain skin has a LEGO variant, that LEGO variant will be included also.
Lastly, Fortnite mentions that even though a battle pass has concluded, it doesn’t mean that exclusive items will land in the item shop. It just means that the items can be offered 18 months after the battle pass has expired. Fans on the X (formerly Twitter) post have largely applauded the decision, with most saying a resounding thank you to the change in policy, and even some fans have requested Fortnite to bring back some of the retired passes altogether. With this new shift in policy, anything could be possible.
While it remains to be seen who will be the first offering to the item shop, all of those ‘Kratos is coming back’ rumours can now continue all over again, but instead of if, the question is when.

Fortnite & Fall Guys Are Together At Last In New Event
Fortnite and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, two of the most popular multiplayer games in recent history, have just launched a collaboration.
Fortnite and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout have been some of the most popular multiplayer titles to launch since 2020, and today, Epic Games has unleashed the news that both titles have come together. Fortnite is no stranger to massive mashups, recently featuring Pirates of the Caribbean, but today, they’re introducing a different type of bean. Fall Guys are officially entering the fray of Battle Royale, and Epic Games has released a trailer showcasing the excitement just below.
In Battle Royale, ‘Where We Fallin’?’ is well underway. Combatants will have to locate Golden Bean idols hidden within the confines of the Classy Courts region on the map. These are essential to access the massive obstacle course that has appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the sky. After praising the bean, combatants will be transported to this obstacle course in the sky, but your appearance will notably change to a primal bean state as seen in Fall Guys. It’s currently unknown if fans who have collected the previously released John Cena skin can turn into John Beana as a side note.
With the new event are new Fortnite quests and challenges to complete. Players will have three chances to complete the obstacle course each Battle Royale fray, and upon completion, their time will be locked in for the match. A time limit of 120 seconds will be imposed, and the rewards are as follows: completing it in less than 50 seconds nets Gold Tier loot; between 50 and 80 seconds nets Silver Tier loot, and between 80 and 120 seconds nets Bronze Tier loot. Aside from loot, rewards can be obtained, like the Pink Plushie Back Bling, which allows Fall Guys to have your back (literally) in Fortnite.
It’s worth mentioning that fans who only want to engage in Fall Guys content can do so. Epic Games has unleashed numerous Fortnite island codes for fans to dive in and embrace their inner bean. They are listed below.
- Falling Up (Island code: 4185-8103-4745)
- Tumble Towers (Island code: 1985-3300-5865)
- Blunderdome Blast (Island code: 7671-9041-8194)
- Hex-A-Gone Unlimited (Island code: 2214-7960-2047)
- Bean Circuit (Island code: 0057-3389-4313)
- Pegwin Pickup (Island code: 7485-7322-4774)
Fans can play the Fortnite x Fall Guys collaboration now until August 15. More information can be found on the official Epic Games website.

What to Expect in Fortnite Season 2: Chapter 8
At long last, the alien invasion is finally over! That being said though, Fortnite’s island is full of…cubes? We always get a certain theme when it comes to starting with a new season, and this time, when Season 8 launched, it was simply called “Cubed”.
While we won’t get into the nitty-gritty of how the story is going so far because of its intricacy, the basic premise is that the cubes that were used to power the alien mothership that used to abduct players has now been set free, resulting in the cubes wreaking havoc on the island.
Besides that though, players can expect a combination of new weapons, locations, characters, and skins in the Fortnite Item Shop. Heck, there are even portals that transport players into a monster-filled realm. So just what can we expect in Season 2: Chapter 8 of Fortnite? Let’s find out.
The Season 8 Battle Pass: Same Old, Same Old
When talking about the Battle Pass in Fortnite, it’s pretty much the same thing every time. Veterans will be happy to know that the Season 8 Battle Pass will come at a familiar price point of 950 V-Bucks or approximately $10 for those that want to unlock all of the premium goodies. The free Battle Pass is available for everyone, but they won’t be able to get the more wanted items such as skins that aren’t available in the Fortnite Item Shop.
For those that want to skip the grind, they have the option to avail the premium track of the Battle Pass which costs 2,800 V-Bucks or approximately $25. This lets players skip 25 tiers in an instant, thereby granting them the ability to start their grind to tier 100 a quarter of the way through already.
The Season 8 Battle Pass will be coming with all sorts of unique items that players can collect. From villainous skins such as Carnage down to ultra-vibrant unicorns, there’s a lot to cover in terms of variety. Marvel characters have always popped in and out of Fortnite, so it’s no surprise to have Carnage in for the ride. There are also the likes of characters that are unique to the storyline in Fortnite such as Charlotte and Fabio Sparklemane. Exclusive content is given in abundance to Fortnite players this time for those that get the premium Battle Pass, and the best part of all this is that they can earn free V-Bucks along the way that’s enough to purchase the next season’s Battle Pass.
It’s like a neverending cycle of getting free Battle Passes after every season!
A New Element
Perhaps the biggest change that’s coming to Season 8 is that there’s a new element coming called “The Sideways”. Described as a “monster-filled reality” that’s “dark” and “malevolent”, it’s what’s being spread by the cubes that are now creating chaos within Fortnite’s island. Players will be able to access them by entering through portals. With the addition of monster NPCs called Cube Monsters, features will include low gravity and the inability to build anything. This will certainly impact the different island locations.
At the very least, there’s still some fun to be had with “The Sideways” in the form of new weapons. Players can craft and create superpowered “sideways” weapons in Season 8 by accumulating a new crafting component from those areas. These new materials are called Cube Monster Parts. Oh, and don’t forget, classic guns such as the harpoon gun and automatic sniper rifle will be making a comeback.
This Means War
With the fate of the island up to the players, it’s your job to protect it. Since Season 8 is all about an all-out war against the Cubes, support from far and wide is needed if players want to secure a future for their beloved island. Since there will be fellow Loopers (players that go in and out of the portals) across the island, you have the option to donate the Bars that you earn to certain construction sites where Turret Stations will be built.
Final Thoughts
It’s certainly a bizarre time for Fortnite players this time around. With Chapter 2: Season 8 all about fighting back against the Cubes, one would think that the alien invasion that we had in the last season was so much better. Sure they abducted players into their mothership, but they at least gave them enhancements that ultimately buffed them.
But hey, at least there are some cool exclusive skins in the Battle Pass that aren’t available in the Fortnite Item Shop!

Epic pulls Fortnite from "rent collector" mobile stores as it readies own shop
This summer, Epic Games finally gets its wish when, thanks to new EU regulations, it's launching its own digital store on iOS and Android. And ahead of its arrival, the company has announced it's removing Fortnite and other Epic games from what it calls "rent collector" competing stores, "even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games."
In its announcement post, Epic first confirms developers selling games on its on its new mobile store will be subject to the same 12 percent fee seen on its PC digital storefront (zero percent if a developer uses a third-party payment system). It then reveals plans to pull its own games from some competing stores. More specifically, it says it'll be "ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games."
It's also pulling Fortnite and its other titles from the Samsung Galaxy Store, in what it calls "protest of Samsung's anticompetitive decision to block side-loading by default" on its devices. Conversely, Epic says it's planning to brings its own mobile games to stores that "give all developers a great deal". One of these will be the indie-focused AltStore.
Fortnite's new mode saw over a million players this weekend
Fortnite has launched a major new battle royale mode, Reload, which drew in more than a million players to the game over the weekend.
Available in both regular and Zero Build variants, Reload is a smaller-scale battle royale option with 40 players organised into 10 squads, with respawns enabled if at least one team member is still alive.
If that sounds familiar, it's because Reload is very much inspired by Call of Duty: Warzone's popular Resurgence mode, which offers very similar mechanics. Respawning isn't instant and requires a wait time which increases over the match - though aggressive play can reduce it, if your teammates take out other players or entire squads.
Fortnite's Pirates of the Caribbean crossover launches next month
Pirates of the Caribbean is coming to Fortnite next month.
Last week's update to Fortnite included characters and content set to be part of the crossover, and initially an event pass featuring Captain Jack Sparrow was made available to buy. Dataminers quickly discovered other characters set to arrive as well, solidifying rumours that emerged several months back when Fortnite's 2024 roadmap first leaked.
Now, acknowledging the event pass' early sale, developer Epic Games has confirmed the crossover's official release: 19th July.

Fortnite Reload je rychlejší a konkurenceschopnější verze původního Battle Royale režimu
Fortnite přidává nový režim Battle Royale nazvaný „Reload“, který obsahuje jedinečný soutěžní mechanismus a zároveň ukazuje určitou podobnost s ikonickým režimem „Team Rumble“.

New Fortnite Reload Game Mode, Weapons and Map Explained
Fortnite doesn’t release new game modes very often, but when it does, it’s always an event, and the new Fortnite Reload mode is no different. The mode is inspired by Fortnite’s past, using weapons and locations from previous seasons, including the incredibly popular Tilted Towers.
The game mode goes back to old, celebrates old features, and uses the visuals Fortnite used years ago. On top of that, Reload follows different rules and is structured differently from the traditional Battle Royale format, although players can still choose between build or no-build.
Fortnite Reload Format Explained
The new mode promotes being super aggressive, with automatic respawns and unlimited respawns as long as one squad member is still alive. There are 40 players in 10 squads of four, so the mode is much smaller than the traditional Battle Royale— all of this takes place on a much smaller map.
Once a player is downed, a reboot timer begins for 30 seconds; however, if a member of your squad gets someone down in that time, it will be shortened, once again pushing players to be more aggressive with their play. As the match progresses, reboots will stop, and the game will become more like the traditional game mode until the last squad is standing. The mode also has its own umbrella.
Fortnite Reload Map and All Locations
The Reload map is smaller than the usual map, which is why there are only 40 players in this mode. However, it features many iconic locations from previous iterations and looks completely different from the current iteration.
Below are all the locations that can currently be found on the map:
- Dusty Docks
- Lazy Laps
- Lil'Loot Lake
- Lone Lodge
- Pleasant Park
- Retail Row
- Sandy Sheets
- Snobby Shoals
- Tilted Towers
Fortnite Reload Weapons
Reload brings back classic locations and some of the weapons from old seasons. Here is every weapon currently in the mode:
- Assault Rifle
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
- Crash Pad Jr
- Foundation’s MK-Seven AR (Mythic)
- Grappler
- Gunnar’s Stinger SMG (Mythic)
- Hammer Assault Rifle
- Hand Cannon
- Heavy Assault Rifle
- Heavy Shotgun (OG version)
- Heisted Accelerant Shotgun
- Heisted Blink Mag SMG
- Heisted Breacher Shotgun
- Heisted Explosive AR
- Heisted Run ‘N’ Gun SMG
- Hunting Rifle

- Jules’ Grappler (Mythic)

- Midas’ Drum Gun (Mythic)
- Mythic Goldfish
- Ocean’s Bottomless Chug Jug & Burst AR (Mythic)
- Pistol
- Pump Shotgun
- Ranger Shotgun
- Revolver
- Rocket Launcher

Is Fortnite Reload permanent?
On June 22, Epic Games added a brand new gameplay mode to Fortnite, simply titled Fortnite Reload. While it's fundamentally similar to the main battle royale mode, Reload isn't a free-for-all since players form squads of four to become the last team standing. The mode seems to have proved popular, attracting well over 800,000 players at launch (according to tracking site Fortnite.GG), which means plenty of people want to know if Reload is a permanent fixture or if it will only be available for a limited time.
Is Fortnite Reload a permanent gameplay mode?
At the time of writing, Epic Games has not explicitly confirmed if Fortnite Reload is permanent or not. However, a blog post about the mode on the official Fortnite website makes no mention of Reload only being available for a limited time. It's also not tagged as a limited time mode, so it's probably safe to assume that Reload's addition will be permanent and the mode won't suddenly be removed from Fortnite. We'll be sure to update this article should this ever change.
With Reload here to stay, it'll be interesting to see how Epic Games handles updating the mode. New Quests to complete for further rewards seems like a no-brainer, but additional weapons could help keep Reload fresh and exciting. So would changes or new POIs for the map. The Reload map brought back a few locations from Fortnite's very first map alongside remixed versions of areas from previous seasons, but perhaps it could receive even more re-imagined locales or entirely original ones. Although Epic would have to keep the map roughly the same size and not expand it. One of the points of Reload is that it features a much tighter map compared to the island from the main battle royale, making it easier to traverse on foot.
