Final Fantasy XVI Brave Blade Coming to PS5 Later

Final Fantasy XVI Brave Blade PS5

Final Fantasy XVI will soon be getting a new weapon on PS5 in the form of the Brave Blade. The weapon, which was first seen in Final Fantasy V, is currently available as a pre-order bonus for the PC version of the game, although PS5 players have been reassured that the weapon will also be available for them in the future.

When will the Brave Blade come to Final Fantasy XVI on PS5?

The Brave Blade will be available for PC players when the game is released on September 17. Square Enix has said that “it will be added to the PS5 version at a later date,” although they haven’t clarified exactly when that “later date” will be.

The Brave Blade may look familiar to Final Fantasy V fans…

Other PC pre-order bonuses include the Cait Sith Charm (Gil Boost Accessory) and the “Sixteen Bells” Orchestrion Roll. Both of these are already available in the console version. The charm was available to PS5 players who pre-ordered the game. Meanwhile, the Orchestrion Roll was available as a promo code from a Taco Bell promotion.

The PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will finally be available more than a year after the game’s release on PS5. However, staggered releases may become consigned to history as Square Enix aims to “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.” The aim is that more players can enjoy its major franchises and AAA titles.

FF16 director Hiroshi Takai also told GamesRadar+ that “I think it’s possible – probably even likely” that future Final Fantasy games could see a day-one release on multiple platforms. However, he did add that “the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights Update Introduces PlayStation Crossplay

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights Update

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update will be released this week. One of the main gameplay improvements the update will introduce is crossplay for PlayStation players. PS5 and PS4 players have been stuck in their own ecosystem while watching Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC players mingle freely, but that’s all set to change in a couple of days.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update patch notes

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Dapper Delights update will also introduce new content for the main game and A Rift in Time DLC. All players will get Tiana (The Princess and the Frog) as a new character, as well as Tiana’s Palace restaurant and Tiana’s Meal Stall. There’s a new Star Path inspired by the Roaring Twenties, new content in Scrooge McDuck’s Store, and more additions to the Premium Shop.

Those who have purchased the A Rift in Time DLC will be able to finish the storyline with the release of Act III – “Treasures of Time” while Jafar will finally be added to the valley as a new character.

The Dapper Delights update will go live on August 21, 2024, complete with crossplay for all platforms. Now PS5 and PS4 players will be able to visit their friends’ valleys on other platforms. You can see the full patch notes below:

NEW CONTENT (AVAILABLE TO ALL PLAYERS):

  • A new character! Revel in the magic of cooking as you welcome Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog to the Valley, alongside new Friendship Quests and unique new items.
  • A new restaurant! Tiana’s Palace is open for business, providing villagers a new spot to grab a meal with friends.
  • A new stall! Visit Tiana’s Meal Stall to purchase delicious meals, rotating daily.

  • A new Signature Bundle in the Premium Shop! Ariel’s Royal Bundle offers a wide range of customization items inspired by Disney’s The Little Mermaid, including a Dream Style for Ariel, a House Style inspired by Prince Eric’s village, and clothing items and furniture that exudes opulence.
  • Weekly rotations to look forward to! Keep an eye out for new optional items in the Premium Shop (alongside some returning favorites), as well as new, weekly DreamSnaps challenges and rewards.

  • A new type of furniture! Keep an eye out for future furniture that allows you to interact with it to gather random villagers for a photo op.

NEW CONTENT (EXPANSION PASS OWNERS):

  • Return to Ancient’s Landing for Act III – “Treasures of Time” – which is the final act of Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time!
  • Jafar makes his way from Eternity Isle to the Valley, opening the door to new Friendship Quests and new unique items!

“Something has gone seriously wrong,” dual-boot systems warn after Microsoft update

Enlarge (credit: Getty Images)

Last Tuesday, loads of Linux users—many running packages released as early as this year—started reporting their devices were failing to boot. Instead, they received a cryptic error message that included the phrase: “Something has gone seriously wrong.”

The cause: an update Microsoft issued as part of its monthly patch release. It was intended to close a 2-year-old vulnerability in GRUB, an open source boot loader used to start up many Linux devices. The vulnerability, with a severity rating of 8.6 out of 10, made it possible for hackers to bypass secure boot, the industry standard for ensuring that devices running Windows or other operating systems don’t load malicious firmware or software during the bootup process. CVE-2022-2601 was discovered in 2022, but for unclear reasons, Microsoft patched it only last Tuesday.

Multiple distros, both new and old, affected

Tuesday’s update left dual-boot devices—meaning those configured to run both Windows and Linux—no longer able to boot into the latter when Secure Boot was enforced. When users tried to load Linux, they received the message: “Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy Violation. Something has gone seriously wrong: SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation.” Almost immediately support and discussion forums lit up with reports of the failure.

Once Human's latest patch is here, but controller support still isn't

Once Human's maintenance is now complete, and the F2P open-world shooter is back online with a plethora of QoL improvements and optimisations, including a desperately-needed revision to vehicle handling.

Whilst players received a bundle of Stardust and health-related items to make up for the downtime, Once Human's long-promised controller and Steam Deck support is still nowhere to be seen (although, confusingly, the "controller" in-game item remains in place).

In terms of Memetics, you can now pick up memetic specialisation memory fragments in the wild and trade them between players. All memetic fragments will be destroyed at the end of the season – which is in a couple of weeks time – and cannot be sent to Eternaland, so be mindful of that.

XDefiant releases first patch, but it's not tackling cheaters just yet

Ubisoft's free-to-play arena shooter XDefiant's first patch has been released.

Entitled "Preseason Patch 1", it addresses a number of specific issues, including one with loading into the Practice Zone – some players found themselves "in a hellscape" outside the world – and another that sees devices dropped at players' feet should they die during device deployment. Up until now, they would still be thrown as if you hadn't just carked it.

This means Practice Zone has been turned back on, although the team warns "it's possible weird things could still happen". So make of that what you will.

Manor Lords wants your help: should its "OP" trade system be changed?

Manor Lords developer Greg Styczeń wants your help deciding what he should do about the game's global market supply mechanic.

Addressing the game's considerable fanbase on the official Discord, Styczeń asked for feedback on whether the mechanic – introduced after critics and content creators noted the trade system was "too OP" – should stay or go.

"When press and content creators got the build two weeks ago, they often said that the trade is OP and that it's too cheesy/exploity to just sell one type of good and make your town rich that way," Styczeń said.

Despite them being flagged by the official Tomb Raider website as a detail to go find, a set of Lara Croft pin-up style posters were mysteriously pulled from the game's Remastered graphical mode recently with no warning.

Aspyr now says this removal was "inadverent" and happened when the team was making "several texture and graphical updates to the HD version".

Todd Howard says Starfield's Shattered Space DLC arrives "in the fall", update fixing stupid map "really soon"

Wow, remember Starfield? I do, just about, although any interest in it feels like a distant dream now. But not to Todd Howard! The Bethesboss had a chat with Kinda Funny and confirmed that Shattered Space, the first big DLC for the brave little space RPG that could, has a release window of "in the fall". Shattered Space adds new locations and stories and gear, and is the sort of DLC that was announced before the game came out, and you got it bundled with some of the super mega hyper awesome pre-order editions (you can still get it bundled with the Starfield Premium Edition if you want to spend an extra 30 quid).

Before that, though, Howard says we should expect (via VGC via the video) "a big update that's coming really soon", and that "we redid the map stuff, so we have some city map stuff." This is the literal first thing I complained about when I reviewed Starfield. Vindication! This is one of a number of changes teased on Starfield's Reddit community at the end of last year.
