Lesser-Known Fallout Creatures

The Fallout franchise is arguably one of the most iconic post-apocalyptic series out there, and it owes a lot of that success to its unique and bizarre setting. Unlike a more conventional apocalypse, the irradiated wastelands of Fallout play home to some truly distinctive creatures. Monsters like deathclaws, cazadors, and super mutants are some of the most immediately recognizable aspects of the series and a big part of its appeal.

Fallout’s TV show boosted Xbox Fallout and Fallout 76 engagement over five times the normal

As if we needed more confirmation that Amazon’s Fallout series generated a lot of interest in Bethesda’s video game franchise, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the games saw a huge spike of continued traffic since the show released, including Fallout 76. During this week’s Microsoft earnings call, Nadella said that “hours played on [Xbox] […]

A Fallout: London modder has taken it upon themself to cure the rampant dog food addiction that is more sinister than you'd think

One of the newest quirks players are finding in Fallout: London seems to be an odd addiction to dog food. There's currently no explanation for this, so one modder decided to take matters into their own hands and create a mod that'll do away with this addiction for good.

Aptly named "Dog Food Addiction Remover," it  was added earlier this week by modder Avislone. "I was rather surprised when I looked down to find myself addicted to dog food, of all things, and when I asked around, there was only some speculation on the Discord as to why it was made addictive in the first place," Avislone says in the description. "I took it upon myself to lower the addiction chance of all dog food down to zero, making it so that you shouldn't ever get addicted to a fairly common food source. It's debatably lore-friendly, per what the comments are telling me, so use it at your own peril."

One look at Team FOLON's Discord reveals that the effects of dog food addiction are far-reaching. Despite multiple players' efforts, no one can figure out if this affliction is a lore-abiding choice or just a funny ailment. There is one theory about why it could be so tasty, but that includes spoilers about what's going on in the Prilladog Dog Food Factory.

Fallout: London spoilers ahead

Venturing into the factory is an optional event, but if you do manage to open the gates, you'll be able to explore every nook and cranny. Once you convince the factory boss to give the workers what they want, you can snoop around the basement, where you uncover a nasty truth—the secret ingredient and the dog food's mystery meat is, in fact, human flesh.

Cannibalism is generally frowned upon in Fallout (shocking, I know). In Fallout 3, you can talk to some members of The Family about it, and they'll tell you that when it comes to cannibals, it's on sight. Most of the time, those who dine on human flesh get ostracised or beaten up by other regular folks. In Fallout 76, eating humans may turn you into a Wendigo.

While it would be cool to have a similar consequence present for those addicted to the "dog food" in Fallout: London, so far, it just seems like the affliction costs you a couple of action points. So, while it's not a big issue, it's understandable if you want to remove the addiction altogether.

However, be warned that modder Avislone doesn't actually know what will happen to you if you use this mod while suffering the effects of the addiction: "No clue what might happen if you are already addicted to dog food when you install this. I don't think anything would break, but to play it safe, I'd recommend using a 'sober' (FOLON's version of addiction) to clear out the addiction first. If you want to do this quickly, hit the ~ key, type in 'player.add item 000459C5 1' (no quotation marks) and hit enter. You should be good to install this mod, then. Or, you know, live life dangerously and don't do that, but I know what seemed to work for me."

Když náhodné setkání s cizincem povede k šokujícímu násilnému činu, Rhiannonina maska úplně sklouzne a dá průchod své temnější stránce, která v ní dlouho dřímala. A kdo ví, této mladé ženě, kterou všichni přehlíželi, by mohla projít vražda.

Dále hrají Nicole Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, Leah Harvey, Jeremy Swift a Dustin Demri-Burns.

Seriál by měl dorazit někdy během října/októbra. Tak snad ho někdo uvede i u nás.

Don’t expect Fallout 1 and 2 remakes from Bethesda any time soon - Todd wouldn’t want to “paste over” their charm

Like many I’m sure, I have extremely fond memories of the original Fallout games, 2 especially. I bought my first laptop for uni, barely suitable for much except typing long literature essays in which I’d complete assignments using my favorite university trick of writing “ah, but to answer this question, we must first explore (whatever I actually wanted to write an essay about.)” Faltering, bricky turnip that it was, I still had some of my favourite gaming memories on that thing, mainly around aging RPGs: Baldur’s Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, and the old Fallouts.

Introduction

War…War never changes. That’s exactly how every episode of the now legendary Fallout series, which has been with us for 30 years, begins.

Story Overview

When we start talking about the story itself, one interesting aspect is that the story plays second, maybe even third or fourth fiddle… In short, it’s not one of the reasons why players would play this game. To set the scene, fans of the series know that you are thrown into the wasteland of a nuclear world after the opening intro, which is always perfectly handled by the animation. This episode went about it a little differently, starting you off in a home that could define the now well-known term American Dream – a gorgeous house in the suburbs, a wife, a son, a car, and a typical everyday morning. This might be true if not for the doorbell ringing at one point from a door-to-door salesman who tells you about a very shortlisted Vault 111 project, to which you subscribe, leading you to the Vault. You are one of the few who will not be directly affected by the nuclear bomb blast or the subsequent radiation exposure. Unfortunately, you’ll be frozen for a mere 200 years immediately afterward. When you wake up, they’ll manage to turn your life completely upside down. Then, as a so-called Vault dweller (an inhabitant of an underground hideout), you embark on a bloody revenge portrayed as nothing more than a rescue. So we have one of the film industry’s biggest clichés that won’t be remembered in a year.

Gameplay Mechanics

When talking about the game itself and the overall gameplay, one of the things I didn’t even notice at first gave me a lot of pause and, more importantly, disappointment. Doing a bunch of different quests is familiar in RPGs. Still, the thing that set Fallout apart was that you could decide how your character was perceived by others, right from the very first episodes. It all worked on a morality mode that filled in on the side of the villain or saint, or you could remain a neutral character. From that, you had a decent line of quests in the game that were only available at a given level of morality. If I’m correct, the third installment offered morality-related perks as well. Forget all that, and if you’ve played the game a few times to try out all the possible solutions and sides, chalk it up to the minus side because you won’t find it here. The authors have dropped this fairly popular system.

Settlement System

On the other hand, one of the absolute novelties is the system of settlements that you can develop and acquire new settlers. Initially, you have only one settlement in Sanctuary Hills, which you can generate by planting plants and creating a water supply system. You can also electrify the whole area and bring various amenities. Each activity requires unique materials depending on what you need to make. You must collect all the components worldwide, which you then disassemble and use for equipment. This way, you can build entire buildings and smaller shelters for your survivors. You’ll find stations in the settlements to prepare food and make chemicals, weapons, armor, and more to help you survive. You’ll use these, especially when upgrading your weapons and armor, as you can fully modify them. So it’s no problem to change the grip of your gun, add a silencer, and have a sight. Plenty of other options spice up the game in their own way. It’s definitely a plus, as you can tailor everything to your play style.
Similarly, you can upgrade the Power Armor, a unique armor used extensively by members of the Brotherhood of Steel as one of the factions of the franchise. This armor protects you from radiation and a large amount of damage. It has been around like many other things since the first game, only this time you don’t get it until the end, but right at the beginning, as the armor sustains lives using the rather expensive Fusion Core batteries. You can also upgrade this armor extensively to make yourself an indestructible machine.

Character Development

Character development and the perk or skill tree are really high in the game, and you have to think about what style of play you want to go for. Here, one could point to the rival Witcher, who needed to be more in the skill tree and offered fewer development options. On the other hand, you can tailor your character to your liking, deciding whether to be accompanied by a companion or instead be a lone wolf and gain specific perk bonuses. There are 6 categories for each trait, such as strength, intelligence, or luck, for example. The latter has a total of 10 additional perks that are directly dependent on the level of the trait. These also work in completely different realms, such as increasing your resistance to radiation. Still, when you upgrade the perk to the max level, the radiation will even heal you. So this system is made precisely for players who want to customize their character and know what they want from the start, which is understandably difficult when you’re just starting to get to grips with the game for the first time. Other perks can, for example, increase your damage with certain weapons, unlock more challenging locks, or hack the defense system. The perk system is one of the main draws I would only partially dismiss the game for and is one of the more considerable pluses. In addition to this tree, the game also includes special perks you unlock by, for example, finding certain magazines scattered around the world.

Combat System

The combat system and controls haven’t changed from previous installments, and everything remains unchanged. In fact, this means you can switch between first and third-person views, which can be applied both during quests and during action-packed battles. The main question for those unfamiliar with the series is how the combat system works. This can be used in the standard way as in other FPS games, the inspiration of Destiny for example is very much evident, so there is a much more interesting combat system known as V.A.T.S. To use it, you use action points marked as AP, and depending on the type of weapon, you can hit enemies several times from the full pointer. In this mode, you also choose where to hit the enemy, and can inflict severe damage. For example, suppose you only shoot him in the leg, after destroying all the health for that part, the enemy will start to limp. In that case, his mobility will be reduced and he will not be able to run away. This system uses your field of view and the accuracy of your weapon to calculate the actual accuracy with which you hit a given party. This plays a significant role in how quickly you kill a friend and in what manner. I like this system (as I have since the beginning of the series); however, using it is unnecessary, so you can play a game like Borderlands, for example. I’ll also point out that if you use the V.A.T.S. system, you charge up the critical missile pointer, which you can then use to hit with more significant damage and 100% accuracy, as I’ve never had this missile miss its target.

Technical and Graphical Aspects

The technical and graphical aspects of the game are a big theme in themselves. Although Fallout 4 is out on a newer generation of consoles this time, the gentlemen from Bethesda forgot about it, and the game runs on the updated Creation engine used in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The game looks good, but we wouldn’t have to go far. For example, The Witcher, released in the same year, is entirely different in this respect. Graphically, the game does not offend outright. Still, it has much catching up, which also applies to the characters’ physics and behavior. Very often, a character is lying on the ground in a bizarre position, has a broken limb, and is made of rubber. All this comes from the engine, because there are a lot of bugs like this in the game, whether it’s characters walking through walls, broken quests, or a dog walking in the air. Although gamers are used to bugs in these big RPGs, the bugs here are beyond tolerable, as they are pretty frequent and often very glaring. Players could tolerate and accept it better if they knew the developers had created a new engine. So in this case, if they chose an older engine, they should have avoided the bugs as mentioned earlier like wall-crawling or object-caving, and not repeat the identical bugs that, for example, the Skyrim above suffered from. But the worst part is that this is the PlayStation 5 version I’m reviewing. Yet, it’s still possible to talk about the game as it was on its original release date in 2015… The only new and positive thing this “next-gen” version has brought is a higher frame rate (i.e., an increase from 30 to 60fps) and a slightly faster loading screen.

Music and Atmosphere

Music accompaniment has become essential to the games, adding to the whole experience.
In this respect, I must commend the developers because the game is accompanied by an ambient sound that can be completely turned off in addition to a perfect sound. And instead, choose a radio station broadcasting from the wilderness, which plays “period” classical music. I like this system, as you are not left to the creators’ choice but can at least partially choose what you listen to.

Conclusion

Fallout 4 was no longer God knows what kind of game on the release day, even though it has its undeniable qualities in many ways. However, this was not helped significantly by the “next-gen” version I played and reviewed (PlayStation 5). It offers several good experiences, varied quests, and a well-conceived character development system to play around with. On the other hand, it doesn’t bring anything significantly new to the series. It also has a lot of blind spots, whether it’s the older engine with weaker graphics for its time, which is also full of bugs even today, or the departure from some previously very successful things like moral decisions. Suppose you’re a franchise fan, like the post-apocalyptic atmosphere, or have played The Witcher. In that case, the fourth Fallout is somewhat out of the question to reach for. If you can survive the things above, you might even have fun with the game; just don’t expect something revolutionary that we have yet to have before.

Televizní pořad Fallout na Amazon Prime Video zaznamenal obrovský úspěch, výrazně podpořil prodeje her a snadno zajistil druhou sezónu.

Film Baywatch z roku 2017, který v hlavních rolích ukázal The Rocka a Zaca Effrona, v kinech velice úspešný nebyl. Aby taky ne, když lidé měli pořád v živé paměti devadesátkový stejnojmenný seriál, kde se jako sexy členové pobřežní hlídky ve zpomalených záběrech pravidelně předváděli taková jména jako David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Alexandra Paul nebo Brooke Burns a mnoho dalších. Jo, kdo byl v devadesátkách dítětem, přesně věděl, do jakých problémů se zase dostal Mitch Buchannon a komu zachránila zase C. J. život. Rozhodně jsme to všichni koukali kvůli příběhu. Jednoznačně!

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Blood of Zeus (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated fantasy series crept into the lower rungs of the Netflix Top 10 in its second week of release, placing at Number 10 with 7.4 million hours watched across 1.8 million accounts. Those numbers are not bad for an animated series, especially considering the lack of promotion, and this one may be allowed to continue to a third season.

Fallout (Amazon, Status: Renewed): This post-apocalyptic series held fast at the Number 1 slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a second week in a row, pulling in an estimated 2.6 billion minutes of viewing. That makes it the first non-Netflix series to post over 2 billion minutes of viewing in the Nielsen rankings for two consecutive weeks, and not surprisingly this show has already been renewed for a second season.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama got off to a decent start a few weeks ago, but it quickly slid out of the Netflix Top 10 after only a three-week run. That suggests it may not have achieved the completion rate that Netflix execs are looking for which tracks the number of viewers that watched the current season all the way through. Its connections to the Sandman series may keep it going, but fans should definitely make some noise on the social networks to bring this show more attention.

Sugar (Apple TV+, Status: Renewal Possible): This mystery series with sci fi elements has not placed in the Nielsen streaming rankings so far, but that is not uncommon for Apple TV+ originals. The showrunners do have plans for a second season and the show has started to develop some buzz, so perhaps the streamer will allow it to continue. But it is another one that could use some support from fans on the social networks.

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This series received a renewal from Netflix this past weekend, but it was not clear how many seasons that would cover. The announcement claimed that it would give the show the chance to “finish the story”, but did not guarantee the four seasons the showrunners wanted. David Benioff and Dan Weiss have since said that “we have what we need to get to the end as intended” and that “we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to” though they have not confirmed the number of seasons. My guess at this point is that it will be three seasons, though potentially with extended episode counts and/or lengths.

Fallout is coming to Fortnite

In news that should be of no surprise to anyone given Fortnite's all-consuming nature, post-apocalyptic RPG series Fallout will soon be making an appearance in the battle royale game.

Fallout is, of course, currently enjoying a bit of a renaissance thanks to Amazon's recent live-action TV adaptation, making it a prime target for the popularity vampire that is Fortnite.

Fortnite's impending Fallout collaboration was teased on its official X account, where a winky face and thumbs-up emoji (squint a bit and it could be Vault Boy) accompanied an image of someone in T-60 power armour staring pensively out of frame amid clouds of belching smoke.

Fallout Theory Explains How Stimpaks Work

The Fallout universe’s sprawling landscape is only matched by the amount of lore within the canon. From the mysteries of the Vaults to the technology that fuels the post-apocalyptic world, every aspect of the games has a story or theory, and even objects like stimpaks aren’t immune to them.

How Do Stimpaks Work in Fallout?

In Fallout, stimpaks work like any other Estes flask or health potion: they give you back some health after taking damage. In the original games, stimpaks only temporarily regained your health, but later entries changed this, so the effects were permanent.

Cancellation Watch: Fallout Tops the Nielsen Rankings, Interview with the Vampire Returns Down, and More

Od: johnnyjay

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Fallout (Amazon, Status: Renewed): Amazon’s post-apocalyptic series Fallout started at the Top of the Nielsen Rankings for the week of its debut, pulling in an estimated 2.9 billion minutes of viewing across a five-day period (it premiered on a Wednesday). That set a record for the highest viewership ever for an Amazon original across one week, and not surprisingly the show has already been renewed for a second season. I expect that this one could stick around for a while if the viewership remains strong and turn into a franchise similar to what Amazon has done with the recently renewed The Boys.

Interview with the Vampire (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama returned for its second season and posted only a 0.04 rating based on same-day viewing with 282K total viewers. That is a 56% drop from its first season average as we continue to see viewership dwindle for originals on the basic cable channels. This one may be picking up slack with streaming on AMC+, and the network appears to be all-in on its Immortal Universe (which also includes Mayfair Witches), so the show may be okay for now.  But I will keep a close eye on how it trakcs for the next few weeks.

Reginald the Vampire (Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural dramedy returned for its second season last week, but only posted a 0.02 rating based on same-day viewing with 163K total viewers. That is down from its first season average which was already pretty low to begin with (a 0.04 score). But then it is hard to gauge the status of Syfy shows these days because Surrealestate had only a 0.02 average this season and it got renewed. These shows may have international partnerships and/or syndication deals helping them out, but fans of Reginald the Vampire should probably make some noise on the social networks to bring the show more attention.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama took a notable drop in its third week, slipping to Number 7 in the Netflix charts with 13.3 million hours watched across 1.8 million accounts. If this one slips out of the Top 10 next week, that could be bad news because it could suggest it is not seeing the completion rate Netflix execs are looking for (which tracks how many people watched all episodes of the current season). This is another show that could use some support from fans on the social networks.

Blood of Zeus (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This fantasy series did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 for the premiere of its second season, but that is not uncommon for animated entries from this streamer. It is possible that it could continue to a third year, but I would expect it to wrap up around that point.

Fallout Looks to Be Coming to Fortnite Season 3 Wrecked

Fallout and Fortnite Tease Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked

Epic Games is teasing a surprising, timely crossover seemingly coming to Fortnite Battle Royale in the near future. It looks like the two massive franchises Fortnite and Fallout will be coming together for an event, though there is no release window or date for the crossover just yet.

The Fortnite and Fallout tease began with a short tweet from Epic Games with an image. The image appears to showcase one of the Brotherhood of Steel members from the Fallout series, but in the Fortnite style. This looks to be hinting at a likely skin players will be able to get in the near future.

In addition to that, the image showcases a factory-like location of some kind underneath the Brotherhood of Steel member. This spot could be a brand new location in the upcoming Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked. As a result, it is possible this upcoming post-apocalyptic-themed season will feature a massive crossover with Fallout.

Here is the official teaser. It also features emojis that recreate the Vault Boy expression of a person winking while giving a thumbs-up sign.

This possible Fortnite and Fallout crossover season could feature Wasteland-themed locations from the Bethesda series, plus a Brotherhood of Steel skin possibly in the new Battle Pass. This timing makes a lot of sense, too, with the recent Fallout Prime Video TV series. Fortunately, it won’t take long for players to find out if this is the case, since the new season is coming out in the near future.

Fans can look forward to the release of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked on May 24, 2024. Fortnite and Fallout fans alike should wait until then for more info on how this teased crossover event will work.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 is coming to Android, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Ella Purnell vytáhne do boje proti vraždícím veverkám v hororové komedii The Scurry - NerdFix

Sorry, Fallout Shippers: A Lucy and The Ghoul Romance Won’t Work

The Fallout TV show came at a time when successful video game adaptations were few and far between. Nevertheless, Fallout beat the odds and gave us an amazing series with new characters like Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul, who offer compelling stories and chemistry so fun many viewers ship the duo, even if a romance could never work in the show.

Lucy and The Ghoul Are Similar People

Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul, aka Cooper Howard, come from very different walks of life yet are united by the sins of their loved ones. Cooper was a famous actor whose wife worked for Vault-Tec and was the catalyst for allowing the bombs to eventually drop. Lucy’s father was one of the men who worked under Cooper’s wife in Vault-Tec and, like her, wasn’t innocent. In the end, both are betrayed by loved ones, with Lucy learning what happened to her mother and the part her father played in her fate.

GAME is selling a £200 Fallout TV show backpack

GAME has opened pre-orders for some pricey Fallout TV series merchandise, including a £200 replica of Lucy's Vault 33 backpack, and a £200 version of the Pip-Boy 3000.

The beleaguered British high street chain says it has seen a huge spike in interest for Fallout merchandise following the success of Amazon's TV show, and promises yet more collectable tie-in items will be available on its shelves in the future.

GAME has recently shifted to selling video game and pop culture merchandise as a major part of its offering, while scrapping its long-running preowned games and trade-in service. The chain is also moving to operate more kiosks in Sports Direct stores, a change that has seen the company close bespoke high street locations and move most staff to zero-hour contracts.

V prvním týmu řeší dodatečnou podporu pro Starfield a chystají obrovské The Elder Scrolls VI, zatímco v Obsidianu oficiálně kutí Avowed (vyjde letos) a The Outer Worlds 2.

A kdy to přistane?

Fallout creator Tim Cain is a big fan of the TV show

Fallout creator Tim Cain has plenty of praise for Amazon's recent TV adaptation.

In a YouTube video posted over the weekend, Cain said how much he liked the show, stating it was surreal to see something he had "worked on really hard" realised in real life.

"They had huge sets with amazing production values on them... Amazing props. The acting was phenomenal. It was just surreal to watch Fallout recreated in real life like that," Cain enthused. However, he said the main reason he liked the show so much was because of the way "everything feels like Fallout".

Fallout TV show popularity prompts NexusMods to issue traffic warning

The huge popularity of Amazon Prime's Fallout TV series is causing traffic problems for top mod download website NexusMods.

NexusMods first issued a warning it was experiencing heavy network traffic that could cause a "degraded experience" last Friday. The site said it had deployed "extra resources" twice over the weekend in order to cope with the extra demand - but problems continue.

As of 8am UK time this morning, NexusMods is still continuing to investigate the issue. According to an official status page, the Nexus Mods website, API, CDN and forum are all currently suffering from a "degraded performance".

How to build Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus in Fallout 4

In my humble opinion - or not so humble if you know me well enough - the Fallout series on Amazon Prime has struck an admirable balance between satire, absurdity, and ultra violence that epitomises its wasteland. Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus are the three archetypes of the characters you'll find in Fallout: the vault dweller, wasteland wanderer, and Brotherhood of Steel follower. So, if you'd rather be those characters rather than just meet them in your adventures, I am here. I've put together a character build for Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus so you can recreate the chaos of Amazon's Fallout in Fallout 4.

Please forgive my very poor excuses for these character's lookalikes in the character creator, as it leaves a lot to be desired. However, if you're like me and play Fallout 4 in first-person then you won't see the face that much - so you won't be haunted by these... mimics.

This is specifically for unmodded Fallout 4, we should note, but if you head over to Nexus Mods and have Fallout 4 on the PC I know you'll be able to find Fallout TV show-inspired mods that'll do wonders for these builds... Anyway, let's jingle jangle jingle on together.

Amazon's Fallout show officially renewed for second season

In a surprise to no one, Amazon's Fallout TV series has been officially renewed for a second season.

The news was shared earlier today, with Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy - who executive produce the show via Kilter Films - saying they "can't wait to blow up the world all over again".

"Holy shit," added showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner. "Thank you to [Nolan], Kilter, Bethesda and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society's most serious problems these days - cannibalism, incest, jello cake."

Fallout 4 fans are creating TV show inspired mods, from presets to sound effects

There is this little TV show currently making headlines. You may have heard of it. It's called Fallout and it has been met with scores of praise across the board (we awarded it four stars).

Following the show's debut earlier this month, the Fallout games soon saw a boost in player numbers. And, those numbers remain up. At the time of writing, there are 53,650 players making their way around Fallout 4's wasteland. Not bad for a game that came out almost a decade ago.

In addition to boosting player numbers, the show has also inspired a number of new PC mods for Fallout 4. So, I have rounded up some of the best ones to share with you here. Please note, there may be some minor Fallout spoilers included below.

Fallout TV show doesn't contradict canon, Bethesda's Todd Howard says

Todd Howard has assured Fallout fans that the franchise's recently-released TV show does not contradict the games' pre-established lore.

Please note, there will be Fallout spoilers below. If you are still to finish the show and want to keep as much a surprise as possible, this is your cue to head elsewhere.

Earlier this month, questions were raised about Fallout's Shady Sands and the settlement's demise. The show's sixth episode dates this event to the 2280s, which made fans scratch their heads - as they felt this date contradicted mentions of Shady Sands in the video game series set later on.

What is the essence of Fallout, and does the TV show live up to it?

Od: Rick Lane

As the dust settles on Fallout's first TV season, which appears to have been as universally beloved as any piece of media can be in today's world, the line that sticks with me most radiates from early in the show. As Ella Purnell's Vault Dweller Lucy sleeps beside her Scout badge-perfect campfire, she awakes to find Michael Emerson's fugitive scientist sitting nearby. All-too familiar with the perils of the Wasteland, Emerson's character urges her to return to the Vault from whence she came. This goes down with Lucy about as well as two litres of irradiated water, so instead the scientist posits a question. "Will you still want the same things, when you become a different animal altogether?"

It's an interesting question to ask in the context of Fallout itself, a series which is at once so recognisable and yet so different from its original form. On the one hand, you can trace Fallout's aesthetic all the way back to the opening cinematic of the first game, which juxtaposes a kitsch 1950s-style commercial with the blasted moonscape of post-nuclear America, all to the lilting vocals of the Ink Spots' "Maybe". It's interesting to return to now. Rare is it that a series' audiovisual identity emerges so fully formed, yet it's there in Fallout from Defcon one.

Yet the games beneath the Vault Boy iconography have changed dramatically in the last quarter-century, to the point where it remains a bone of contention within the Fallout community. There is something, the argument goes, that Interplay's isometric RPGs have which Bethesda's 3D, real-time open world games lack. Certainly, the more recent games have had their flaws. Fallout 3 arguably dialled back the colour of Fallout too much, while Fallout 4 leans heavily toward being a shooter at the cost of broader role-playing options. But these remain distinctly Fallout games in other ways, replete with that familiar visual identity, and in quests like the Gary-filled Vault 108 - as perfectly strange as the wasteland demands.

Fallout TV show holding "iconic" stuff back for Season 2, including deathclaws

Amazon's Fallout TV show has - a few minor controversies aside - been a hit with fans since arriving last week; but while it's covered plenty of the video games' post-apocalyptic basics across its eight episodes - from Pip-Boys and Power Armour to Vaults and Vault-Tec - not everything's made the cut. And its creators have now explained they deliberately held some "iconic" stuff back, including deathclaws, to better do them justice in a potential Season 2.

"We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn't want to just throw it away," co-showrunner Graham Wagner told the The Wrap. "It's such a monumental piece [of the Fallout mythology]." That's despite the team's initial instinct to, as co-showrunner Geneve Robertson-Dworet put it, take a "kitchen sink approach" to incorporating the games' most recognisable elements for TV.

"There's all the greatest hit things...that people who aren't even gamers know about Fallout," she explained, "like Nuka, deathclaws, whatever. There are these things that are just so prevalent and we were tempted to do all of them in Season 1. But on the other hand, we didn't want...the show to seem like it was written by people who just spent 10 seconds reading the Wikipedia page for Fallout...So it was important to us to also bring deeper cuts into Season 1".
