We’re only days away from Resident Evil Requiem, the latest chapter of Capcom’s long-running survival horror series. It will introduce a new character in Grace Ashford, and also bring back Leon S. Kennedy as an older hunk. It might leave you wishing you could see other heroes like Jill Valentine aged-up next, but don’t expect that anytime soon. That's thanks to the dumbest piece of lore imaginable: the leading ladies of Resident Evil age very slowly.

Last week, PlayStation aired a super-sized State of Play stream that showed exactly what to expect from the PlayStation 5 in 2026 and beyond. It was an illuminating hour filled with genuine surprises, from a sequel to indie hit Kena: Bridge of Spirits to a full remake of the original God of War trilogy. But the biggest takeaway from the show wasn’t any one game. Rather, it’s that a big-picture strategy is coming into focus: PlayStation is all in on courting younger audiences.

After five years, the PlayStation 5 is getting experimental with color. While we've gotten special edition designs and colorful faceplates in the past, this week, Sony announced a new line of “Hyperpop” faceplates that give the PS5 some especially bold new looks. Considering that this console generation has been disappointingly black and white, I for one welcome the return of loud gaming devices that you can’t hide from a date. No one’s going to believe that your toxic waste green PS5 is a router, Jerry. You better own it.

There’s no shortage of hit multiplayer games I could be playing right now. I could be tearing up the streets of Brooklyn in Battlefield 6, taking down Nightlords in Elden Ring: Nightreign, or diving into any number of hit co-op games currently tearing up Steam charts. I probably should be playingArc Raiders,considering that it’s the talk of the gaming world right now. And yet, I can’t stop skidding around city streets as a runaway hamster instead.
