You can save $30 on Sony’s DualSense Edge controller by buying refurbished

The author removing an analog stick module from the Sony DualSense Edge controller for PS5.

If the PlayStation 5 is your console of choice — and you’re not satisfied with the DualSense gamepad it comes with — the DualSense Edge may be what you’re looking for. Luckily, if its high asking price of $199 was keeping you away, Sony is now offering the white and black controller via the PlayStation Direct storefront in refurbished condition for $169 ($30 off). It comes with the same one-year warranty as a new unit, though it may exhibit minor cosmetic imperfections.

Sony DualSense Edge

Sony’s pro-style controller, the DualSense Edge, might suffer from shorter battery life than the standard DualSense model, but it features great software integration with the PlayStation 5 and plenty of customizable components.

Where to Buy:

The DualSense Edge is significantly more customizable than Sony’s pack-in controller, with toggleable control schemes you can switch without leaving your game, mappable rear paddles, and swappable joysticks in case one breaks. On its back, there are switches that let you adjust the stopping point of its triggers, allowing either a full pull or a short and clicky feel. It’s also easy to tweak the joysticks’ deadzone and sensitivity levels.

In addition to being a great pairing with the PS5, the DualSense Edge is also compatible with Windows. Several PC games published by PlayStation Studios feature support for some of the controller’s unique features, too. The wireless controller’s only significant downside is that it’s limited to eight hours of battery life, which is a couple of hours shorter than Sony’s standard DualSense gamepad. It shouldn’t be an issue if you remember to charge the controller every few days, though.

Piggyback’s fantastic Metroid Prime art book is nearly 30 percent off

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launched on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in December, but if you’re itching for some more lore, Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective is a nice way to dig in, especially now that it’s on sale. Normally $49.99, you can currently buy the hardcover version for $36.59 (about $13 off) at Amazon and Walmart, which is the best discount we’ve seen on the tabletop book.

Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective

Where to Buy:

Developed in collaboration with Nintendo and Retro Studios, Piggyback’s 210-page retrospective is an excellent homage to the last 20 years of Metroid. The book itself resembles a piece of art, stitched-bound in a canvas-like cloth hardcover, with a red embossed outline of the series’ iconic protagonist, Samus Aran. Inside, you’ll find a trove of concept drawings and sketches spanning the entire trilogy — as well as Metroid Prime Remastered — including detailed illustrations of environments, common enemies, and bosses. It even features concept art that never made it into the final games.

What really makes the book stand out are the behind-the-scenes stories, however. It touches on everything from Retro Studios’ burnout upon shipping Metroid Prime 2: Echoes to insights surrounding Nintendo’s secretive development process. The margin notes from series producer Kensuke Tanabe are especially entertaining, as they reveal design debates from over two decades ago.

Update, February 20th: Updated related links and sale pricing to account for a larger discount.

The Switch 2 is still on sale at multiple retailers if you missed out during Cyber Monday

One of the biggest surprises of Cyber Monday was the excellent discount we saw on the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World console bundle, which dropped in price by $50. We expected the price to return to normal once the shopping holiday ended, but — surprise, surprise — it’s still going strong. Several major retailers are offering the gaming bundle for $449.99 ($50 off), including Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. Since it’s a high-demand item, Walmart and Best Buy require that you add the bundle to your cart before seeing the discounted price. In the case of Walmart, you must create an account in order to go through the checkout process.

The current promo effectively gets you a free digital copy of Mario Kart World, which typically retails for $79.99 on its own. Given that tariff-induced price hikes have recently made consoles like the original Switch, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 to become more expensive, this deal is a welcome reprieve. However, we don’t anticipate it sticking around, so if you or someone you know is on the hunt for the Switch 2, now’s the time to pick one up.

The Nintendo Switch 2 offers a nice upgrade over the original, with an expansive 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen, magnetic Joy-Con controllers, and improved performance. It can play most original Switch games, and the system’s library of must-play titles continues to grow, with big releases like Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, Kirby Air Riders, and the forthcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Update, December 2nd, 2:48PM ET: Added the Best Buy discount. The retailers listed above have wavered on offering this deal, but for now, it’s back on.
