YouTube is rolling out updates to its search filters, giving users more control over the types of videos that appear in search results. The headline change is a new option that allows viewers to completely filter out Shorts, the platform’s short-form videos, from their search results.

According to Dexerto, the new filters are part of a broader overhaul of YouTube’s search tools. The company is also renaming some existing options to make them more intuitive, while retiring filters that saw little usage. Overall, the changes are designed to streamline the search experience and give users greater flexibility in tailoring results to their preferences.

YouTube gives Shorts their own separate filter option

The most important change is a new Shorts filter in the Type menu. Now you can choose if you want to see only Shorts or only long videos when you search. Before this update, both types of videos showed up together by default, which frustrated many users.

YouTube is also changing the name of its “Sort By” menu to “Prioritize.” The company says this new name better explains how search results are ranked. As part of this change, the “View count” option is now called “Popularity.”

The Popularity filter doesn’t just look at view count. It also considers other factors like watch time to show you videos that many people have watched and stayed engaged with. YouTube has been improving its platform in several ways recently, including winning exclusive streaming rights to major events.

YouTube is removing some filters that people weren’t using. The “Upload Date – Last Hour” filter and the “Sort by Rating” option are going away. You can still find recent videos using other Upload Date filters, and the new Popularity option will help you discover highly viewed content.

These changes are meant to make searching simpler and less confusing, especially as Shorts become more common on the platform. The company also recently rolled out updates for TV users to enhance the viewing experience across different devices.

Last year, Google introduced its own take on Apple’s popular Contact Poster feature, branding it as “Calling Card.” The feature allowed Android users to customise the images that appear when they call friends, family, or colleagues. However, Google initially left out a key function that Apple had offered all along: the ability to create a personal card for yourself.

That’s set to change soon. Since October, it has been known that the Phone by Google app was developing a solution called “My Calling Card,” and recent findings suggest the feature is nearly ready for public release. The team at Android Authority was able to locate and activate My Calling Card in the beta version 204.0.852029473 of the app, providing a closer look at how it works.

Once the feature officially rolls out, users will find My Calling Card in the Settings page of the Phone by Google app, under the Calling Card section. Setting it up is designed to be straightforward, guiding users step by step to create a custom card with personal images, contact information, or other details they wish to share.

Google took its time with this one

After tapping Create, you’ll see a welcome screen where you pick your Google account. The next page lets you choose an image from your Camera, Gallery, or Google Photos. You can also pick the font style, font size, and color you want. If you’ve already made a calling card for your contacts, this process will feel familiar.

Once you finish customizing, you can preview your calling card and decide who sees it – everyone or just your contacts. The preview page tells users that their image “may be cropped to fit different screens.” While Android is catching up with this feature, Apple users have had their share of frustrating iPhone reliability issues lately.

Android Authority points out that your custom card might not show up if your contacts have already set a calling card for you. But if they haven’t made one for you, your personalized card will appear on their screen when you call. This seems designed to avoid conflicts with people who already set up calling cards for their contacts.

Based on all the information available, My Calling Card should launch soon. It’s a bit surprising that Google didn’t include this feature when they first launched Calling Card several months ago. Despite some serious Apple product safety concerns emerging recently, now that My Calling Card is almost ready, hopefully Google won’t wait much longer to release it.

Authorities found Linda and Gary Lightfoot dead in New Mexico after the Texas couple went missing following a family Thanksgiving celebration. The couple, both in their 80s, were the focus of a large multi-state search after they disappeared following the holiday gathering.

According to People, family members reported Linda, 81, and Gary, 82, missing on November 28 after they didn’t return home to Lubbock, Texas. They had left a family celebration in Panhandle, Texas, the day before on Thanksgiving, November 27. Panhandle Police Chief Sace Hardman said that the couple left the gathering around 3:00 PM local time.

The drive from Panhandle back to their Lubbock home is only about 150 miles. When they didn’t show up, their family quickly raised the alarm. Police believed the Lightfoots were driving a silver 2024 Toyota Camry, which was later spotted on cameras in both Texas and New Mexico.

The search faced a major problem that made finding them much harder

New Mexico State Police and Quay County officials used helicopters and drones to scan the rugged terrain.

The tragic discovery was made in Quay County, New Mexico, on Tuesday, December 2. Panhandle Police Chief Sace Hardman confirmed the finding to Everything Lubbock, stating that authorities currently suspect no foul play in their deaths. Chief Hardman indicated that the couple likely died of hypothermia. The bodies will undergo autopsies in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to confirm the official cause of death.

Gary Lightfoot was a highly respected member of the law enforcement community. Lubbock reported that he previously worked for the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, among other departments.
