GOTY-Winning PS4 RPG Finally Getting PS5 Sequel

GOTY-Winning PS4 RPG Finally Getting PS5 Sequel

One of the PlayStation 4’s best role-playing games of all time got some huge news today, with Square Enix revealing that a Game of the Year-winning RPG would be back.

What RPG will be returning with a PS5 sequel?

During a video celebrating the fact that it has officially hit 10 million worldwide sales, Square Enix announced that the world of Nier Automata would be continuing. The announcement briefly appeared at the end of Square Enix’s video, which marked a huge milestone for Nier Automata. Yoko Taro’s game took PlayStation Lifestyle’s top Game of the Year spot in 2017.

Fans were quick to theorize that a sequel to the hit game could be in the works. However, it’s currently unclear exactly what Square Enix means. Automata originally released almost 10 years ago, and followed the story of combat android 2B, scanner android 9S, and rogue prototype A2. The game was praised for its combination of a litany of styles, including RPG elements, hack-and-slash combat, shoot ’em up and text adventure sections, and more.

Despite the lack of confirmation, fans were quick to begin speculating what exactly the message of a continued story could mean. Geoff Keighley didn’t help matters, as he cryptically also shared the still from the end of the video on his X account. As for any reports on the matter, there were rumors that many of Nier: Automata’s developers were working on something, but it’s unclear exactly what that is, or when we’ll see it.

Unique PS5 Sega Game Remaster Out Today on PS Store

The year may have only just begun, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t new gaming experiences for PS5 players to enjoy. With games like Yakuza Kiwami 3 and High on Life 2, there are already plenty of solid games to experience in 2026. That includes Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition, a remaster of the classic Sega CD game.

What is Prize Fighter?

Originally developed by Digital Pictures, the classic Sega game Prize Fighter returns with Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition, a remaster developed and published by Screaming Villains. The new version of the full-motion video game has been “rebuilt from the ground up,” and now includes 4K video, as well as other improvements and features.

Here is a trailer and description of Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition, giving PS5 players a glimpse of what to expect from the game’s boxing tale:

“Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition takes you closer than a ringside seat – it puts you right in the game. In this remastered Digital Pictures classic, you’re the one slugging it out with the best boxers in the world.

“With your fists in view, you can throw any punch, anytime. A jab. A hook. An uppercut! Land a blow and watch your opponent reel.”

As seen in the trailer, Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition is a full FMV experience. The bouts are staged by Ron Stein, who was responsible for choreographing the fights in the critically acclaimed boxing films Raging Bull and Rocky.

Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition is available now for PS5 on the PS Store.

This is just one of many great PS5 games to release this month. This isn’t even the first remaster to release this month. Ubisoft released Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, which includes five versions of the original game. There have also been a couple of remakes released for the PS5, including Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

Latest Game in PS2 Action Series Practically Free on PS Store

Flatout 4 game PS Store sale

The latest game in a long-running series, which began on the PS2, currently costs next to nothing on the PS Store. This doesn’t look like a mistake, but 2017 PS4 action demolition derby/racing game Flatout 4: Total Insanity is going as low as $0.44 for a limited time. The game is playable on PS5.

2017 game Flatout 4 is under $1 on PS Store for a limited time

PS Plus members have until February 26 to buy Flatout 4 for $0.44. Those without a subscription have to pay $0.67. Either way, the game is under a dollar for everyone and is worth checking out at this price.

For the uninitiated, Flatout first launched on the PS2 in 2004 and went on to spawn seven more games, with a VR title currently in production for PSVR2/PS5. One of the games — Flatout: Head On — was a PSP exclusive. Meanwhile, 2007’s Flatout: Ultimate Carnage was an Xbox 360 console exclusive.

Flatout 4 received mixed reviews, and the series hasn’t seen a new entry since. But that’s set to change with the VR game that’s yet to be dated.

The IP is currently owned by Canadian publisher Strategy First Inc. after changing hands numerous times over the last two decades.

Next God of War’s Story Partially Leaked via Game Files – Rumor

God of War PS5, PS6 story

A new leak suggests that Santa Monica Studio may already have set the stage for the next God of War game’s story, which we expect to be a PS5 and PS6 title. A determined dataminer, who previously found God of War Ragnarok‘s beginning in the 2018 game‘s PC files, now claims to have found post Ragnarok hidden dialogue that sounds like it’s part of the next game.

Could this be the next God of War PS5, PS6 game’s story? (Potential spoilers)

The leaker in question, Reddit user TheMorse_, has provided screenshots of strings containing the aforementioned dialogue as well as copies of the text files containing all the strings within which the dialogue was found.

Unless this is a very, very elaborate hoax, the leak might be legit. But still, take everything with a grain of salt, and if you’re worried about spoilers, X out now.

From the sound of things, Athena — who seems disappointed with Atreus — might be an antagonist in the next game, and she may initially be disguised as a “robed figure.”

Speaking of Atreus, it does look like he will be the central figure in the upcoming God of War games, which makes sense because continuing with Kratos indefinitely doesn’t seem possible without the series falling off a cliff.

What do our readers think?

New PS5 Exclusive RPG Announced, Leaving Players Confused

PS5 RPG Zanerdin: The Unbound

A new PS5 console exclusive RPG has been announced by a South Korean studio founded by a former Neowiz (Lies of P) executive. Zanerdin: The Unbound is in development for PS5 and PC, and although it sounds promising, its trailer has left players more confused than excited.

Zanerdin: The Unbound is a turn-based PS5 RPG that promises no microtransactions

Zanerdin: The Unbound is described as a collectible turn-based RPG that deploys the increasingly popular gacha mechanics, but without microtransactions. According to developer Sanctuary Games, the base price of the game will be all that players need to pay for the full experience.

What’s more is that Zanerdin: The Unbound offers “60 unique battle stages that progress through hand-drawn narrative cutscenes.” Sounds good so far. But here’s the first trailer uploaded to the official PlayStation channel:

We’re not quite sure what we’re seeing here. There is certainly no gameplay, and the trailer doesn’t tell us anything about the plot either. One look at the comments section, and we can tell that we’re not the only ones who think this isn’t a great debut trailer.

“Welcome to Kalatos, a fantastical world forged and protected by the power of the six Blessings: Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, Wind, and Electric,” an official overview reads. “At the core of Kalatos lies the Chaos region, a desolate environment where all are born without any powers. Lead Zanerdin, born into the Chaos, into the Blessed lands to discover the truth about his family.”

Zanerdin: The Unbound doesn’t have a release window yet.

PlayStation Shockingly Shuts Down Beloved First-Party Studio Making PS5 Games

In a surprising move, PlayStation has shut down one of its most beloved studios behind some early PlayStation 5 launch titles and known for producing some incredible work.

What studio is PlayStation shutting down?

Bluepoint Games, the Sony-owned studio that became known for producing several high-quality remasters including Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, has been shut down by Sony. News of the shut down was first reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who noted that roughly 70 people will lose their jobs as a result of the studio’s closure.

In a statement to Bloomberg, PlayStation confirmed the closure, which says the news came “following a recent business review.” The spokesperson for PlayStation also praised Bluepoint in their work for PlayStation. “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” the spokesperson said. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

Bluepoint Games, founded in 2006 in Austin, Texas, was best known for developing several high-end remakes of older games. Sony acquired the company in 2021, right after the release of Demon’s Souls, which was a PS5 launch title.

The company then did additional co-developing work on 2022’s God of War Ragnarök and was reportedly working on a live-service game set in the God of War franchise, which was subsequently canceled in 2025.

As of now, Bluepoint Games has not made any remarks on the move, and it’s unclear what the future holds for those who worked at the studio. It’s also unclear what, if any, project they were working on for Sony prior to their closure. Most reports in 2025 suggested the company was pitching and working with Sony on their next direction following the cancellation of the God of War live-service game.

God of War PS5 Remakes Get Exciting New Details

God of War PS5 Remakes Get Exciting New Details

New details regarding the upcoming God of War remakes announced last week have come to light from an unexpected but trustworthy source.

What are the latest details on the God of War remakes?

While attending Fan Expo in Vancouver, Canada, streamer Fuhpuzy spoke to Christopher Judge, who voices Kratos in the new renditions of God of War from Santa Monica Studio. She asked Judge about the upcoming game, and he surprisingly opened up about a few key details.

According to Judge, he won’t be appearing in the game as the voice role of the younger Kratos will be handled by his original actor, TC Carson, who also appeared at Sony’s State of Play to announce the games. Judge also said that the games will feature a whole lot of “new stuff,” including a “new fighting system” and other content.

Kratos Actor Christopher Judge has seemingly just leaked a bunch of info about the series:

– GoW Remake will have new combat, new systems & content
– Only TC Carson is voicing Kratos in the remake
– Next Santa Monica game is being announced late summerpic.twitter.com/LltgiEjrgX

— Synth Potato? (@SynthPotato) February 19, 2026

As for what Judge might be up to, he did hint that new information about the next God of War game could be coming very soon. He mentioned that fans will be “hearing about what we’re doing probably in the late summer,” which could suggest that Santa Monica Studio will be back with another announcement during the yearly summer conference cycle.

The God of War remakes will be comprised of the first three God of War games that released in the 2000s and followed Kratos’ life as a Spartan-turned-God-of-war as he vows to get revenge against the Greek gods.
