O Problému tří těles se v posledních měsících mluvilo především ve spojení se seriálovou adaptací od Netflixu, které vdechli život David Benioff, D.B. Weiss a Alexander Woo.

Cancellation Watch: 3 Body Problem Will Run for 3 Seasons, Scavengers Reign Fails to Chart in Netflix Top 10, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewed): Netflix previously announced a renewal for this show and that the creative team would “get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion”, but no further details were revealed at that time. Now the streamer has confirmed that the show will return for two additional seasons which will give it one for each book in the trilogy. The showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, previously indicated that they wanted it to go for four seasons, but when the initial renewal came, they claimed that the streamer was giving them enough episodes to tell the story they wanted. 3 Body Problem is very expensive to produce, so Netflix likely wanted to keep the show from going too long to put a cap on the budget. Benioff and Weiss were rushed to wrap up Game of Thrones with its eighth season and that caused some controversy, so we will see how things play out with this series.

Scavengers Reign (Netflix, Status: Cancelled): The first season of this animated sci fi series premiered on Netflix on May 31st, but it did not make it into that streamer’s Top 10 for the week. The show was previously cancelled by Max but then picked up by Netflix for an encore run and they are considering producing a second season. It will need to post better viewership numbers, though, so fans should make some noise on the social networks to bring it some attention and get more people watching on Netflix.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama held at Number 3 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a second week in a row, improving to an estimated 699 million minutes watched. It dropped out of the Netflix charts after only three weeks, suggesting it may not have the completion rate that execs at that company are looking for. But it still has posted decent viewership and could continue to a second season.

Evil (Paramount+, Status: Cancelled): This show made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week after its Season 4 premiere. It landed at Number 8 with 291 million minutes watched, though it got a boost from the encore run of the first two seasons on Netflix. Paramount+ is bringing the show to an end with its current season (giving it a few bonus episodes to wrap up its storylines), but if viewership remains strong, perhaps it could get an extension. Fans should take this opportunity to make some noise on the social networks to support that show.

Cancellation Watch: Blood of Zeus Enters Netflix Top 10, Fallout Holds at the Top of the Nielsen Rankings, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Blood of Zeus (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated fantasy series crept into the lower rungs of the Netflix Top 10 in its second week of release, placing at Number 10 with 7.4 million hours watched across 1.8 million accounts. Those numbers are not bad for an animated series, especially considering the lack of promotion, and this one may be allowed to continue to a third season.

Fallout (Amazon, Status: Renewed): This post-apocalyptic series held fast at the Number 1 slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for a second week in a row, pulling in an estimated 2.6 billion minutes of viewing. That makes it the first non-Netflix series to post over 2 billion minutes of viewing in the Nielsen rankings for two consecutive weeks, and not surprisingly this show has already been renewed for a second season.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama got off to a decent start a few weeks ago, but it quickly slid out of the Netflix Top 10 after only a three-week run. That suggests it may not have achieved the completion rate that Netflix execs are looking for which tracks the number of viewers that watched the current season all the way through. Its connections to the Sandman series may keep it going, but fans should definitely make some noise on the social networks to bring this show more attention.

Sugar (Apple TV+, Status: Renewal Possible): This mystery series with sci fi elements has not placed in the Nielsen streaming rankings so far, but that is not uncommon for Apple TV+ originals. The showrunners do have plans for a second season and the show has started to develop some buzz, so perhaps the streamer will allow it to continue. But it is another one that could use some support from fans on the social networks.

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This series received a renewal from Netflix this past weekend, but it was not clear how many seasons that would cover. The announcement claimed that it would give the show the chance to “finish the story”, but did not guarantee the four seasons the showrunners wanted. David Benioff and Dan Weiss have since said that “we have what we need to get to the end as intended” and that “we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to” though they have not confirmed the number of seasons. My guess at this point is that it will be three seasons, though potentially with extended episode counts and/or lengths.

A nyní zde máme odpověď.

Cancellation Watch: 3 Body Problem Continues to Top the Nielsen Charts, Resident Alien Could Be on the Move, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This series repeated at Number 1 in the Nielsen Streaming rankings for a third week in a row. It has also now spent seven weeks in the Netflix charts, five in the Top 5. It is an expensive show to produce, and the showrunners want to go even bigger with its second season with hopes that it will last four years total. Whether Netflix will let it go that long remains to be seen, but I consider a second-season renewal to be a good bet at this point.

Resident Alien (Netflix, Status: On the Bubble): Deadline is reporting that Resident Alien is unlikely to get a fourth season at Syfy and that it could move over to sister cable network USA which is considering getting back into the scripted programming game. However, that move could come with a budget cut of $500K per episode. The show only averaged a 0.06 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demo in its third year, and Syfy in general has been having trouble drawing viewers to its original series. Resident Alien did see pretty strong viewership on Netflix when its first two seasons were released there in February, and there are also talks of the show possibly moving to that streamer. For now, though, I am shifting it to Bubble status and fans should definitely make some noise on the social networks to support this series.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This show slipped to Number 3 in the Netflix charts for its second week, but viewership improved to 34 million hours across 4.7 million households. Its numbers are not as strong as other recent genre entries from the streamer like 3 Body Problem or the live-action One Piece, but it is likely not nearly as expensive to produce as either of those shows. However, Netflix does tend to cut bait pretty quickly on shows it considers to be underperformers, so fans should probably make some noise on the social networks to bring this one more attention.

Not Dead Yet (ABC, Status: On the Bubble): The prognosis for this supernatural comedy has not been good this season with its episode order getting truncated and its ratings slipping year over year. And ABC has announced the status of most of its shows while remaining silent on this one so far. We should know its fate by next week when the network unveils its 2024-25 schedule at the Upfronts, and right now is the time for fans to stage a Call to Action to help its chances of getting a third season.

Chucky (Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): There has been no word on a fourth season of this horror/comedy yet, but creator Don Mancini has already made a pitch to Syfy for where the show can go next. In addition, fans have an opportunity to support the show by calling 1-201-500-3347 to demand more adventures from Chucky. Its numbers dropped off with its season finale last week, but perhaps this one could stick around for another year if the fans lobby for it.

Krapopolis (FOX, Status: Renewed): The same-day ratings for this animated fantasy comedy have dropped notably during the second half of its first season without a lead-in from football to boost its viewership. But is it performing about on par with FOX’s other animated comedies on Sunday nights and it has already been renewed through its third season, so it is safe for now.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

There were no renewal or cancellation announcements this past week, though I expect to hear the fate of several shows (particularly ABC’s Not Dead Yet and Syfy’s Resident Alien and Chucky) by next week during the Upfronts when several of the networks and streamers will be revealing their schedules for the coming season. The score currently stands at 23 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (40% of shows tracked) vs. 11 cancelled and ending (19%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Show Count 57
Cancelled 6 10.5%
Ending 5 8.8% 19.3%
Renewed 23 40.4%

Renewal Possible 17 29.8%

Cancellation Watch: 3 Body Problem Tops the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, The Orville Gets Another Non-Update, and More

24. Duben 2024 v 13:46

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This show took the Number 1 slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week of its premiere, pulling in an estimated 1.4 billion minutes of viewing. It is also still in the Netflix Top 5 after five weeks, so the viewership for the show is quite strong and I would say it has a good chance for renewal at this point.

The Orville (Hulu, Status: In Limbo): There is still no official word on a fourth season of this show, but creator Seth McFarlane seems to be sure that it will happen.  In a recent appearance on The Mike Henry Show, he made the following comment: “The Orville was a passion project, I say ‘was’ but I don’t really mean ‘was’ because there will be more”.  That does not confirm a renewal, though, and Hulu has remained silent on the status of the show.  But if fans continue to make some noise to support the series (it is currently doing well in our poll), perhaps it will be back at some point.

X-Men 97 (Disney+, Status: Renewed): This show did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week of its premiere, but word is that viewership on Disney+ has been strong. It was picked up for two seasons in advance, and a third is already in development (though not officially greenlighted), so I expect it will stick around for a while.

Ark: The Animated Series (Paramount+, Status: Renewal Possible): This series was released with almost no advance announcement, and it did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere. But Paramount+ has been giving it some promotion since then, so perhaps it could stick around into a second season. The second half of the first season will be released later this year.

Skull Island (Netflix, Status: On the Bubble): There has been no word from Netflix on this animated MonsterVerse entry since it premiered in June of 2023, and its chances for a second season are looking grim. Executive producer Brian Duffield made the following statement on Twitter: “Scripts are all done and I hope it sees the light at some point – think we got unlucky with timing and story changes in the bigger ‘Verse”. This one may have fallen victim to schedule shuffling due to the strikes, and fans should make some noise to support the show if they want that second season to happen.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

Amazon’s Fallout received a second-season renewal last week, and the announcements for The Witcher, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Star Trek: Lower Decks do not impact the 2023-24 season score. We currently stand at 23 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (43% of shows tracked) vs. 11 cancelled and ending (21%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Cancellation Watch: Resident Alien Improves for Season Finale, Fallout May Be Headed to a Second Season, and More

Od: johnnyjay
10. Duben 2024 v 14:26

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Resident Alien (Syfy, Status: Renewal Possible): This show improved for its season finale, pulling a 0.08 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 622K total viewers. Its third-year numbers have been nowhere near where it was in its first season and the first half of its second season, but it did see an upward trend the last couple of weeks. The first two seasons just started streaming on Netflix and have performed well there, and that could be boosting the viewership. That could also help it get to a fourth season, and the showrunners do have plans for where the show will go next, but some help from fans on the social networks would give it a boost as well.

Fallout (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This show premieres today on Amazon’s Prime Video and it may already be headed to a second-season renewal. Word is that it has been offered a $25 million tax credit to relocate filming from New York to California. That does not guarantee that a second season will happen, but it will certainly act as a strong incentive, especially as the streaming services try to keep costs down. We will have to see how this much-anticipated show performs in viewership, but consider its prospects good at this point.

Halo (Paramount+, Status: Renewal Possible): This video-game-based series has wrapped up its second season, and it had a four-week run in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, averaging an estimated 377 million minutes of viewing per week. That is good for a Paramount+ entry and should help get this one to a third-season renewal.

Not Dead Yet (ABC, Status: On the Bubble): The numbers for this supernatural comedy have been slipping, and it hit a series-low 0.15 rating in the demo with 1.4 million total viewers with its latest episode. It is also losing a fair amount of the audience each week from its lead-in The Conners. It is firmly On the Bubble and fans will certainly want to make some noise on the social networks to support it if they hope for it to stick around for a third season.

American Horror Story (FX, Status: Renewed): This horror anthology barely registered in the ratings with its return for the second half of its twelfth season, posting a series low 0.03 rating in the demo with 243K total viewers. This was once among the top-rated shows on cable, but its audience has certainly diminished over the years. It has been renewed through its thirteenth season, but could be wrapping up at that point.

3 Body Problem (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This sci fi entry held at Number 1 in the Netflix Top 10 for a second week in a row, but its viewership dropped almost in half from week to week, from 116 million hours to 61 million hours. That may suggest that the completion rate is not where Netflix execs want it to be, and this is an expensive show to produce. But it is also a high-profile series, so the streamer will have an incentive to keep it going if the cost can be justified.
