Update: August 21, 2024 (4:00 AM ET): We’ve updated our Galaxy S24 FE hub with news that the device has appeared on the Bluetooth website.

Original article: Samsung might be better known for its high-end flagships, but it has also produced quite a few budget-minded Android phones in recent years. One of the more intriguing alternatives to a Samsung flagship is its “FE” series, formerly known as “Fan Edition” phones. These phones typically offer specs and performance similar to the mainline Galaxy S series but at much more aggressive prices, thanks to concessions like a polycarbonate body and a few minor spec downgrades. With the next FE on the horizon, here’s everything we know about the Galaxy S24 FE.

  • The Galaxy S24 FE has been spotted on the BIS certification website, suggesting an imminent launch in India.
  • We expect the global launch, including the US, to happen in October.

With Samsung’s top-tier flagship launches wrapped up for 2024, the company is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S24 FE. The device has been the subject of several recent leaks, shedding light on its potential specifications and color variants. Now, there’s further evidence pointing towards an impending launch.

91mobiles spotted the Galaxy S24 FE lurking on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website. The model number listed there (SM-S721B/DS) aligns perfectly with the model number that was previously leaked via Samsung’s own support page.

While the BIS listing doesn’t disclose specifics about the hardware or design, its appearance strongly indicates that the Galaxy S24 FE could soon be making its debut in India. Since Samsung usually rolls out its FE models globally, we can bet on a US launch around the same time. Current rumors suggest the Galaxy S24 FE will hit the global markets in October, so a launch event announcement and official teasers should be popping up any day now.

On the specifications front, the phone is expected to be powered by an Exynos 2400e chipset. A notable change this year could be a larger 6.7-inch screen compared to the 6.4-inch display on the Galaxy S23 FE. We’ve already seen leaked promo material and images for the phone, suggesting that it will look a lot like the regular S24 and offer at least five colors.

The Galaxy S24 FE is Samsung's next Fan Edition smartphone. While Samsung missed launching the Galaxy S22 FE, it looks like Samsung will continue to launch FE series smartphones every year. The company doesn't usually launch all its smartphones in the USA, but it seems like the Galaxy S24 FE will definitely be launched in the country.

Galaxy S24 FE confirmed to launch in the USA

A new and unannounced Samsung smartphone with model number SM-S721U was spotted (via 91Mobiles) in the Bluetooth SIG database. Going by the model number, the phone is the upcoming Galaxy S24 FE's carrier-locked variant for the US market. For reference, the model number of the Galaxy S23 FE's US carrier-locked variant is SM-S711U.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE USA Bluetooth Certification

The Galaxy S24 FE's Bluetooth certification document doesn't reveal any details about its specifications. However, considering the phone will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the US, it will likely feature 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 (with LE Audio and LC3 codecs). The global version of the phone likely features the Exynos 2400 chip, which was also used in the global versions of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+.

A few days ago, complete features and specifications of the Galaxy S24 FE were leaked, along with the phone's images and color options. According to that report, the phone features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, in-display fingerprint reader, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. It uses the Exynos 2400 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chip, depending on the market.

You can watch the performance of the Exynos 2400 chip in our Galaxy S24 review in the video below.

It will reportedly have an aluminum frame, glass back, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The phone will be available in five colors: blue, graphite, mint, silver, and yellow. The phone is said to feature a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. On the front, it has a 10MP selfie camera. It can record 4K 60fps videos from the front and rear cameras.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Colors

The report also claimed the Galaxy S24 FE has 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage. It will run Android 14-based One UI 6.1 out of the box and get at least four major Android OS updates and five years of security patches. It is powered by a 4,565mAh battery, capable of lasting up to 78 hours of audio streaming or 29 hours of video streaming on a single charge.

The Galaxy S24 FE has GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It also has 25W fast wired charging, 15W wireless Qi charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

It is an open secret that Samsung is developing the Galaxy S24 FE, thanks to all the leaks we have had about it. However, none of those leaks came directly from the company, which means that we didn’t have a confirmation directly from the brand that the phone exists. Well, that’s changing today, as Samsung has listed the Galaxy S24 FE on its official website.

We have spotted a support page for SM-S721B, which is the international variant of the Galaxy S24 FE, on Samsung’s official website for France, as you can see in the screenshot below.

So, the South Korean tech giant has now given us a confirmation that the Galaxy S24 FE exists. Considering that the company has made the support page of the phone live, it looks like the launch of the phone is imminent. Unfortunately, the support page doesn’t reveal anything else. That being said, previous leaks have given us a pretty good idea about the device.

Galaxy S24 FE leaked specifications

According to previous leaks, the Galaxy S24 FE will have the Exynos 2400 SoC, the same chipset that’s in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Samsung will ship the phone with Android 14 (most likely with One UI 6.1.1). One of the memory configurations on offer will have 8GB RAM. On the imaging front, the device’s primary rear camera will feature the ISOCELL HP3 50MP sensor.

The story continues after the video…

Compared to the Galaxy S23 FE from last year, the upcoming Fan Edition phone will have thinner bezels, a larger screen, and a slimmer waistline. The company will launch the phone in four colors: Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Yellow. Hopefully, we will get to know more about the phone as its launch nears. Samsung’s Fan Edition smartphones have their own fan base. The “FE” branding has become popular as an Android flagship alternative, offering a different combination of specifications at a lower price tag. We’re waiting on the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, which will hopefully come later in the year, and now the first set of details are leaking out for the device.

Galaxyclub suggests that the Galaxy S24 FE could come with the 50MP ISOCELL GN3 1/1.57-inch sensor for the primary camera, sporting 1.0μm pixels. If the sensor sounds familiar, it is the same one you can spot in the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy S24.

Some details of Samsung’s next Fan Edition phone have surfaced courtesy of our friends over at GalaxyCluba month after it was revealed that the device is in development.

The Galaxy S24 FE will reportedly feature the same primary camera sensor as its predecessor. This sensor—the ISOCELL GN3—is also used in the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24+.

The FE lineup received an upgrade for the main rear camera for the first time just last year with the Galaxy S23 FE, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Samsung isn't planning any upgrades for the Galaxy S24 FE. The same applies to the front-facing camera, which went from a mid-range 32MP sensor on the S20 FE and S21 FE to a 10MP high-end sensor on the Galaxy S23 FE.

The ultra-wide and zoom cameras will likely remain unchanged as well, though it's all speculation for now. It will be a while before we get a full picture of the Galaxy S24 FE's specs, as its development timeline suggests it may not launch until late this year or early 2025.

The biggest question for many Samsung fans will be the choice of chipsets that power the Galaxy S24 FE. Samsung veered off the established path by using an year-old Exynos and Snapdragon chip for the Galaxy S23 FE instead of the chips found inside its non-FE cousins, but it remains to be seen what approach the company will take for the sequel.

We'll let you know more about the Galaxy S24 FE as new information comes to light, so stay tuned.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE wishlist: All the features I want to see

Samsung might be better known for its high-end flagships, but it has also produced quite a few solid budget and generally more affordable phones in recent years. One of the more intriguing alternatives to a Samsung flagship is the Galaxy S FE series. These phones typically offer specs and performance similar to the mainline Galaxy S series but at much more aggressive prices, thanks to concessions like a polycarbonate body and a few minor spec downgrades. Although the Galaxy S23 FE is still a good option, here’s what I’d like to see from the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE.

Better heat management this time around

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy logo

Credit: Robert Triggs / Android Authority

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a great phone, but its heat management could be better. Much of this is due to the choice of processor; the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 generates considerable heat. Even with aggressive thermal throttling, the S23 FE can become uncomfortably warm. While it won’t cause burns, it can still be slightly uncomfortable. The good news is that the Galaxy S24 FE is very likely to feature a more efficient processor, as newer generations of Snapdragon chips have addressed these issues.

At the very least, we can expect something like a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (or a comparable Exynos chip). There are early indications that the Galaxy S24 FE might include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or an Exynos 2400 chip, depending on the region. This would mark a departure from the S23 FE, which utilized flagship chips that were a year old.

Better fingerprint scanner

Galaxy S23 FE fingerprint sensor

Credit: Ryan Whitwam / Android Authority

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE utilizes an in-display fingerprint scanner, and while many of today’s ultrasonic scanners work wonderfully, the S23 FE unfortunately opts for a cheaper optical scanner. The result is an inconsistent log-in experience at best, and this is something I want to see changed for the Galaxy S24 FE. One possibility is upgrading to an ultrasonic scanner, which would certainly improve the experience, though it might also increase the price. Alternatively, I’d like to see Samsung integrate the scanner right into the power button, which is typically a much more cost-effective solution. There’s certainly precedent among Samsung phones for this, as the Galaxy Z Fold series uses this approach. Ultimately, I don’t care which method the Galaxy S24 FE adopts, but I do hope it offers a more consistent scanning experience upon its release.

Improved Gorilla Glass

Credit: Ryan Haines / Android Authority

The Samsung Galaxy FE series needs to cut costs, and one of the areas impacted is the type of glass used. While this is understandable, Gorilla Glass 5 is really starting to show its age, and there are better alternatives available. While upgrading to Victus 2 may be out of the question, the original Gorilla Glass Victus has been used in other mid-range phones before. Alternatively, there’s Gorilla Glass 6. Although these are older solutions, they offer significant upgrades over the glass currently used in the FE series.

Battery life

Credit: Ryan Haines / Android Authority

The 4,500mAh battery on the Galaxy S23 FE can make it through a whole day with moderate use but heavier use like gaming and extensive media viewing can easily drain the battery long before you are ready to plug in for the night. I’m hoping the Galaxy S24 FE addresses this. If the rumors of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 onboard prove accurate, we shouldn’t have much to worry about as long as the battery size stays at least the same as last year’s model. Even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 should provide a better experience. Still, budget buyers tend to value battery life for a variety of reasons, and bumping things up to 5,000mAh would be a welcome move.

Will there be a Samsung Galaxy S24 FE?

Although Samsung has yet to officially confirm the Galaxy S24 FE, it’s all but inevitable that there will be another model. Not only is the series reasonably popular, but Samsung recently made the decision not to release the Galaxy A55 in the United States. That makes the Galaxy S FE series the best cheap “flagship” experience on offer, so it would be more than shocking if Samsung axed the series altogether, though it has certainly skipped releasing a model before. At the time this was largely due to the pandemic, however.

What’s harder to speak on is when we might see the Galaxy S24 FE. We previously covered a report claiming it could arrive as early as this summer. Since then there’s been one other conflicting report that claims it won’t be seen until late 2024 or even early 2025.  The latter report certainly fits with the company’s history.

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 FE — October 26, 2023
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 FE — January 11, 2022
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 FE — October 2, 2020

On the other hand, the claim of a summer release equally makes sense to me. After all, with the Galaxy A55 5G not shipping in the US (or at least not yet), it’s possible the Galaxy S24 FE could arrive earlier in its absence.

Should you wait for the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE?

samsung galaxy s23 fe purple in hand

Credit: Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Considering we don’t know when the Galaxy S24 FE will arrive, we wouldn’t recommend waiting for it. If you’re a Samsung fan on a budget, you’ll likely be better off finding a deal on the Galaxy S24 right now. Since the phone is now a few months old, you’ll be bound to find a few good deals. You could also potentially pick up the Galaxy S23 FE ( ), though you might want to wait as the S24 FE could likely have the same 7-year Samsung software policy as Samsung’s newest flagships.

Don’t mind looking outside of Camp Samsung? The Google Pixel 8a ( ) has recently launched, and its older brother, the Pixel 7a ( ), is about to receive a significant discount as well.
