Democrats are calling it a dictatorship warning sign after Trump did something to the DOJ building that’s never been done before

21. Únor 2026 v 22:45

A massive banner featuring President Donald Trump’s face and the slogan “Make America Safe Again” appeared on the Department of Justice headquarters in Washington, D.C.. The display immediately sparked strong criticism from Democrats, who called it an unprecedented move that threatens the independence of federal law enforcement.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the display “beyond parody” and questioned how many “dictatorship-style monuments, building name changes, and fake awards Americans have to endure.” Sen. Andy Kim of New Jersey was equally direct, saying, “The Department of Justice is supposed to work for and represent you, not him,” pointing to concerns that the DOJ’s loyalty is shifting away from the public.

According to Time, the core issue, critics say, is that the DOJ is meant to operate independently from the White House, serving the rule of law rather than any individual president’s political agenda. The banner has reinforced fears that this separation is breaking down.

The DOJ’s independence has been under serious scrutiny long before this banner went up

Those concerns are not new. During Attorney General Pam Bondi’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, lawmakers questioned her loyalty to President Trump, particularly over the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein files. Rep. Jamie Raskin stated bluntly, “Trump orders up prosecutions like pizza, and you deliver every time.”

Bondi defended herself, saying she came into office to refocus the DOJ on its “core mission” after what she described as “years of bloated bureaucracy and political weaponization.” But a former federal prosecutor noted that she couldn’t recall similar political imagery for past presidents like George W.

Bush or Barack Obama on federal buildings, adding that political activity is not supposed to take place within the Department of Justice. Trump has also made waves on other fronts, including ordering a major declassification of alien-related files that has drawn widespread attention.

This is also not the first time Trump’s image has appeared on federal buildings. Last May, banners featuring him alongside President Abraham Lincoln were displayed at the Department of Agriculture. In August, a banner with Trump’s second inaugural portrait alongside President Theodore Roosevelt, with the words “American Workers First,” appeared at the Department of Labor.

Beyond banners, Trump has also added his name to major Washington landmarks. In December, his name was added to the Kennedy Center, a board he personally chairs. That same month, the U.S. Institute of Peace building also received his name after the Department of State rebranded the organization.

These actions, along with Trump’s past calls for Bondi to prosecute political opponents, have raised serious concerns. Federal prosecutors have recently brought charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey, though both cases were later dismissed.

The DOJ is also currently investigating Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Democratic officials in Minnesota over whether they obstructed federal immigration enforcement through public statements. Meanwhile, Trump’s broader policy moves continue to face legal challenges, including a recent case where the Supreme Court ruled against Trump’s tariff policy. Former FBI Director Comey summed up the reaction to the banner in one word: “sickening.”

DOJ unfurls large Trump banner, and this is after he sued the department for $230 million

20. Únor 2026 v 19:30

A new banner featuring a large image of President Trump, along with the slogan “Make America Safe Again,” was unveiled at the Department of Justice (DOJ), as reported by The Hill. This is a pretty striking move, especially considering President Trump himself submitted two claims against the very same department in 2025, seeking up to $230 million in damages.

While this measure isn’t standard practice, it’s not the first time we’ve seen a large banner with the president’s photo on a federal building. Last year, similar banners featuring President Trump were hung outside the Department of Labor. Typically, White House leaders tend to distance themselves from the DOJ to maintain an appearance of political impartiality.

However, President Trump has frequently weighed in on federal prosecutions and investigations, marking a significant departure from how things have been done in past years. His unprecedented claims for damages against the DOJ definitely turned heads.

You might recall President Trump taking a victory lap during a speech at the DOJ headquarters last March

This event really got critics talking, as they’ve accused him of launching a retribution campaign against his political opponents, reportedly with the help of Attorney General Pam Bondi. During that speech, President Trump told those gathered at the department’s headquarters, “First, we must be honest about the lies and abuses that have occurred within these walls.”

He continued, “Unfortunately in recent years, a corrupt group of hacks and radicals within the ranks of the American government obliterated the trust and goodwill built up over generations. They weaponized the vast powers of our intelligence and law enforcement agencies to try and thwart the will of the American people.”

He added that they “spied on my campaign, launched one hoax and disinformation operation after another, broke the law on a colossal scale, persecuted my family, staff and supporters, raided my home, Mar-a-Lago, and did everything within their power to prevent me from becoming the president of the United States.” President Trump declared that all who wronged him would be held accountable for their actions.

Following this, President Trump ordered Attorney General Bondi to investigate several individuals. These included New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat who had previously brought charges against him in his home state. He also targeted Senator Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, who investigated him as a member of the House select committee on the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Finally, Federal Reserve board of governors member Lisa Cook was also on the list, after criticizing interest rates set by the central bank.

The DOJ tried to use a desperate loophole to hide the remaining Epstein files, but the damning emails reveal what Trump ‘knew about the girls’

21. Listopad 2025 v 21:00

Representative Robert Garcia is calling out Attorney General Pam Bondi, arguing that the Department of Justice can’t use a last-minute legal loophole to hold back the complete, un-redacted Jeffrey Epstein files from Congress. According to The Hill, Garcia, who serves as the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wrote a letter to Bondi on Friday insisting that the DOJ must comply with the committee’s subpoena, regardless of any new investigations the administration might launch.

If you’re keeping track of the legislative side, Congress just passed a new bill demanding the DOJ release these documents to lawmakers. This bill had nearly unanimous support, with only one member of the House voting against it, and it requires the documents to be released within 30 days.

Here’s where things get messy and frankly, concerning. Even though that bill passed, it includes a provision that allows the DOJ to withhold information if it’s deemed relevant to “ongoing investigations.” This is awful news for transparency. At the direction of President Trump, Bondi recently launched a probe specifically into Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to Democrats.

This move seems perfectly timed to exploit the provision and potentially shield certain information from public view

Garcia isn’t having it, though. He stated his concern that President Trump will try, “on dubious legal grounds, to exploit a provision which allows DOJ to withhold information relevant to ongoing investigations.”

Garcia stressed that their subpoena demands everything, writing, “I write to remind you that the subpoena issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform requires you to release the complete, un-redacted Epstein files to the Committee, including classified information and material relevant to ongoing investigations, while protecting the identity of survivors and potential victims.” He made it crystal clear that “Any additional federal investigations launched by the DOJ or the President do not impact our subpoena.”

AG Pam Bondi needs to release the files immediately. We now have signed legislation that has passed Congress and an official Oversight Committee subpoena that we passed in August.

This fight over the remaining files is huge because the documents released so far have already dropped some massive bombs. Just last week, Garcia himself released emails showing Epstein discussing President Trump. In those emails, Epstein stated that the president “knew about the girls.” That is an incredibly damning piece of evidence, and I think it shows exactly why the administration is fighting so hard to control what comes out next.

We’ve also already seen the notorious birthday note President Trump allegedly wrote to Epstein back in 2003. In that note, he claimed the two share a “wonderful secret” and “have certain things in common.” President Trump has denied writing the message, and he even sued The Wall Street Journal after they first reported on it.

However, House Oversight Democrats compared the signature on that image to other documents signed by President Trump, and they argue there’s little doubt it’s authentic.
