Sony to close Bluepoint Games

An internal memo from Sony has revealed they are to shut down Bluepoint Games, the developer responsible for the remasters of Shadow of the Colossus. Uncharted, and Gravity Rush on PS4, and the Demon Souls remake for PS5.

Bluepoint had been working on a live service game, but this was cancelled in January 2025. Sony bought Bluepoint in 2021, and they have never released a game as a PlayStation studio, although they did work on God of War Ragnarok.

Here is the email in full:

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share an important update from the Studio Business.

As I mentioned in the December Town Hall, 2025 had some strong highlights within PlayStation Studios. Ghost of Yotei launched to critical and commercial success, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach further showcased our commitment to narrative excellence, and Helldivers II and MLB The Show continue to drive on-going player engagement and revenue.

At the same time, we’re operating in an increasingly challenging industry environment. Rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds are making it harder to build games sustainably.

To navigate this reality, we need to continue adapting and evolving. We’ve taken a close look at our business to ensure we’re delivering today while still well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will be closing Bluepoint Games in March.

This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for some impacted employees within our global network of studios.

While I know this is hard news to hear, I’m confident in the direction we’re headed. Creativity, innovation, and building unforgettable experiences for players remain at the heart of PlayStation Studios. We have a robust roadmap for fiscal year 26, with much to look forward to in the months ahead.

Thank you for your hard work and continued support.

Best,

Christopher Judge (Kratos) briefly talks about God of War remakes and his next game

Christopher Judge, the actor who has played Kratos in the most recent God of War games, seems to have leaked information about both the God of War remakes, and whatever Sony Santa Monica are working on.

A video seems to show him confirming something we already knew, that TC Carson will be returning to the role of Kratos in the remakes, but he also adds that there will be “new technology and new fighting systems”.

He then goes on to say that “then you will be hearing what we’re doing probably late summer”.  He does not specifically say that it’s a new God of War game, but the “we” he refers to is presumably Sony Santa Monica, who have not released a game since God of War Ragnarok in 2022.

The video is now longer on the YouTube channel it seems to have been ripped from, and it really does not look like AI, but you can never be 100% sure these days.

In God of War (2005), Kratos serves Ares, the God of War, after pledging himself in desperation during battle. Manipulated by Ares into slaughtering his own wife and daughter, he eventualy ends up killin Ares and taking the title for himself.

The second game has Kratos stripped of all his powers by Zeus, killed, and banished to the underworld. He eventually teams up with the Titans, rewinds time and attacks Mount Olympus. Clearly not learning his lesson from the first time, Zeus then kills him again in the third game.

Judge will not be playing Kratos in the upcoming Amazon TV show, that honour goes to Ryan Hurst  who has previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok. Ryan Hurst is best known for playing Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy and will be seen on the big screen later this year in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The show has had two seasons ordered before the first scene has been filmed, with pre-production currently underway. The series will be skipping the Greek games and beginning in Norse mythology, but one would assume they are going to have explain why Kratos is covered in white ash and has giant chains wrapped around his forearms.

Bungie delay Shadow and Order, Destiny 2’s next big update, until June

Bungie have announced that their next large update to Destiny 2,  titled Shadow and Order, has been delayed.

“Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed. This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026.

We will provide exact details closer to release covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors, and more. Through June, we will continue to have routine bug fixes and stability improvements, continued portal modifiers, Guardian Games (March), and the return of a more frequent Iron Banner cadence

In terms of communications, we will be focusing on providing you with updates about our live game content, community activations, and general upkeep through the TWID and our Destiny social channels. Thank you for your continued patience and support. We will have more information on our next major update and future plans for Destiny 2 closer to launch.

See You Starside.”

The Shadow and Order update had been due to arrive just after the Marathon Server Slam and just before Marathon itself launched, so it seemed inevitable that it would be moved to allow Bungie some space for that.

Bungie have not released a roadmap for future updates but if Shadow and Order – or whatever it gets called – is delayed by three months then there is a very good chance that the next expansion, Shattered Cycle, will also get pushed back.

Bungie are clearly prioritising Marathon, and they really have to as they need another big hit. Destiny 2 is a shadow(keep) of its former self, and delaying big updates for months on end is not going to incentivise the players left.

Call of Duty advert banned due to ‘implied painful penetration of a man’

A Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 advert that screened on YouTube and on streaming services for ITV and Channel 5 has been banned by the UK’s advertising regulator, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The ad shows a ‘replacement’ airport security guard frisking a man and asking him to remove “everything but the shoes”, before a female guard snaps on a rubber glove and gleefully adds, “Here comes the puppet show.”

The Advertising Standards Authority received nine complaints from people who believed the ad trivialised sexual violence.

The ASA acknowledged that there was no explicit imagery in the advert, but the humour was “generated by the humiliation and implied threat of painful, non-consensual penetration of the man”.

They concluded the advert “trivialised sexual violence and was therefore irresponsible and offensive.”

Activision has clarified that the advert was not shown around children’s programming. Black Ops 7 has a PEGI 18 rating for “graphic violence, decapitations, dismemberment, strong language,” so it should not be sold to children.

We scored Call of Duty : Black Ops 7 a 6/10 in our review. “Black Ops 7 really demonstrates the difficulties of Call of Duty’s yearly release schedule and going back-to-back with its sub-series,” said Stefan.

“It’s not as rushed-feeling as Modern Warfare III was, that’s for sure, but it’s also not a consistent experience. The multiplayer and Zombies are solid continuations from last year, but there’s not too much excitement in that, especially after the energy-sapping co-op campaign and Endgame.”

Beast of Reincarnation has a release date and new trailer!

Beast of Reincarnation, the upcoming action role-playing game created by Pokémon series developers Game Freak, has been given a release date of August 4th 2026.

Set in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Japan in the year 4026, the game follows Emma the Sealer and her dog Koo as they battle to restore their homeland from a blight that has ravaged the land.

Emma is infused by the Blight in an interesting way, able to sprout vines from her hair, while Koo also has foliage growing on their back. They battle against ‘malefacts’ who also have these nature-based powers, with Emma able to defeat and then seal their essence within herself. There’s also Golems, the mechanical bodies inhabited by human minds that transferred themselves millennia ago.

The combat looks pretty engaging, with Emma landing blows and parrying incoming attacks, building up to be able to freeze the action and then unleash an ability from Koo. Both Emma and Koo have separate skill trees. There are different approaches you could take, like fighting exclusively from long range, using stealth, or having Koo lead in to strike first.

Beast of Reincarnation is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round announced alongside Dead or Alive New Project teaser!

Koeie Tecmo are polishing off a new version of Dead or Alive 6 for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam this June, while also teasing Dead or Alive New Project, which we’re just going to assume will eventually be called Dead or Alive 7.

Originally released in 2019, we were promised the “definitive version” of the game, which has been “optimised for the latest hardware”, but no specifics were provided as to what that means. Fans will be pleased to know there will be a dedicated photo mode “enabling players the ability to capture every angle of their favourite fighters by exploring brand-new features such as ‘character position’ and ‘pose selection'”.

The game will feature the original roster of 24 players, plus Nyotengu, Phase 4, Momiji, Rachel, and Tamaki who were DLC characters.  If you own the 2019 game your saves and DLC purchases will carry over to the new version, and there will be new DLC inspired by Ninja Gaiden 3 and other titles.

There will also be a free-to-play version Dead or Alive 6 Last Round Core Fighters edition, which will include three fighters, Marie Rose, Honoka, and NiCO.

Dead or Alive 6 continued the series tradition of having improbable boob physics, with jiggles and perving over scantily clad female characters, but did try and balance things out a little…. by putting some of the male characters in tiny shorts.

You can read our review of the 2019 game here.

Along with all that we have news of a brand new Dead or Alive game that is currently being developed, and has been introduced with a gratuitous lingering shot of boobs. Classy as ever.

God of War Trilogy Remake announced and God of War Son of Sparta is out now!

Sony have announced something new for God of War but sadly it’s not a brand new game in the main series. God of War Trilogy Remake is in “very early” development and will be, as the name suggests, a remake of the first three games set in Greek mythology.

TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, is returning, but no further information was released. I wonder if they will keep the rather saucy minigames?

In God of War (2005), Kratos serves Ares, the God of War, after pledging himself in desperation during battle. Manipulated by Ares into slaughtering his own wife and daughter, he eventualy ends up killin Ares and taking the title for himself.

The second game has Kratos stripped of all his powers by Zeus, killed, and banished to the underworld. He eventually teams up with the Titans, rewinds time and attacks Mount Olympus. Clearly not learning his lesson from the first time, Zeus then kills him again in the third game. Very careless, Kratos!

Also announced is a brand new game in the franchise, but it’s not what you might expect. God of War Sons of Sparta is a side-scrolling combat game that tells the story of a young Kratos, before he became the God of War. The game is out right now on PlayStation 5!

“God of War Sons of Sparta is a 2D action platformer with a canon story set in Kratos’ youth during his brutal training at the Spartan Agoge alongside his brother Deimos. They must overcome threats that will put all their training to the test while confronting the true meaning of duty and honor.”

Ghost of Yōtei Legends arrives this March, check out the new trailer

The co-op Legends mode for Ghost of Yōtei will launch on March 10th as a free update for the game.

If you need a refresher, Legends was first introduced in Ghost of Tsushima, and it added co-op missions where players took on fantastical enemies, participated in Raids, and played as new characters other than Jin Sakai. It is likely Ghost of Yotei will follow a similar format.

“Legends will launch with three mission types. In Survival, you can team up with up to three other players to take down waves of increasingly difficult enemies on one of four maps. You’ll fight to control territory on each map. While you control a location, you can activate a Blessing, offering you an advantage in battle. But if you lose control, you’ll unleash a Curse, putting your team at a disadvantage. Each map will have its own unique Curses and Blessings.

In Story, you’ll team up with another player to tackle a series of 12 missions. After completing each set of three Story missions, you’ll unlock an Incursion, which is a large-scale four-player assault on a stronghold belonging to a member of the Yōtei Six. Each Incursion will culminate in a boss fight versus a giant, supernatural version of the Spider, the Oni, the Kitsune, or the Snake.

As for the other members of the Yōtei Six, in April we’ll release a Raid putting your team to the ultimate test, where you can expect to take on the Dragon and Lord Saito himself”

Silent Hill Townfall has a spooky new trailer!

Announced all the way back in 2022 we now have our first look at Silent Hill Townfall.

It looks like it is going to stay close to the classic Silent Hill premise with Simon arriving in an abandoned, misty town packed full of nightmarish creatures.  There is also a new take on the radio from the orginal games, this time Simon has a small portable television which seems to detect the things that lurk. We also get to see what could be a new iconic creature, a wedge-headed, scarred humanoid.

“Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest. Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface.”

The game was originally announced with N oCode as the developers, that seems to have changed and Screen Burn are now creating the title.

Silent Hill Townfall will be out this year.

Konami’s Motoi Okamoto, producer of the Silent Hill franchise, has said that the company hopes to release a Silent Hill game every year.  “We aim to release about one title per year, including both announced and unannounced titles,” he said.  We’re not sure how far we can achieve this, but we’ll do our best as the producer of the Silent Hill series. Ideally, we’d like to keep the buzz around Silent Hill constant. We’ll do our best to provide you with new updates, so we hope you’ll wait a little longer.”

Star Wars: Galactic Racer gets a gameplay trailer and it looks great

Announced during the 2025 Game Awards, we now have a gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer!

“A new racer has arrived to the Galactic League: an unsanctioned racing circuit where only the bold survive. For Shade, a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge, the League isn’t just a race; it’s a shot at reclaiming destiny.”

We’ve had a lot of Star Wars games over the years, across a heap of different genres, but racing games have been few and far between. Star Wars Episode I: Racer – which appeared on a bunch of great consoles like the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 – was centred on the hyper-fast pod racing scene that George Lucas made a highlight of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and, somewhat unbelievably, remains the highest-selling sci-fi racing game of all time. Ahead of Wipeout and F-Zero! It makes sense then that we would eventually see a new game set in a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is due for release in 2026.

Ubisoft close a studio weeks after the workers vote to unionise

Ubisoft, which received €1.16bn investment in 2025 from Tencent,  have closed its studio in Halifax, Canada, with the shutdown coming just a few weeks after the employees voted to unionise.  The studio had been running for over ten years.

“Over the past 24 months, Ubisoft has undertaken company-wide actions to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs,” said a Ubisoft spokesperson. “As part of this, Ubisoft has made the difficult decision to close its Halifax studio. 71 positions will be affected. We are committed to supporting all impacted team members during this transition with resources, including comprehensive severance packages and additional career assistance.”

Employees at Ubisoft Halifax formed a union under CWA Canada, which also includes employees from Bethesda Montreal, on December 18th, 2025. 74% of the staff voted in favour of the move.

“In an era marked by industry-wide uncertainty, studio closures, layoffs, and increasing instability, we want to make clear our commitment to one another and to our craft,” they stated at the time.

CWA Canada has not made any official comment about the timing of the two events, but is “demanding information”. “Today’s news is devastating,” commented CWA Canada president, Carmel Smyth. “We will pursue every legal recourse to ensure that the rights of these workers are respected and not infringed in any way.”

Rockstar Games was recently accused of ‘union busting’ after firing 30 employees who belonged to a union, stating that the employees were fired for sharing company information in a public forum. This has been denied by the staff.

Following the dismissals last week, the IWGB branded it as “a brazen act of illegal union busting”, with IWGB president Alex Marshall calling it “a calculated attack on workers organising for a collective voice and to improve their difficult working conditions.”

The Sims 4 final expansion has been leaked

The alleged last expansion pack for The Sims 4 has leaked thanks to the ever-reliable South Korean ratings board. The pack is titled Royalty & Legacy, and the brief description states that “The 21st expansion pack for The Sims 4 allows players to become nobles and build a long-lasting dynasty.”

The pack is rumoured to launch in February 2026 and may well be the last ever expansion for The Sims 4 as EA focus on their new Sims game, The Sims Project X.

The Sims Project X is said to be a standalone game but EA are also working on The Sims Project Rene, a multiplayer instalment.

The Sims 4 has been a long-running hit for EA and developer Maxis, launching in September 2014 on PC and subsequently ported to mobile, Mac, and consoles. The game went free-to-play in October 2022 and has gained over 85 million players in its lifetime, with over 30 million of those added since it went free-to-play.

The most recent pack, Adventure Awaits, introduced the Getaway Planner, a system that lets Sims schedule and customise trips and holidays, and also expanded the childhood gameplay.

The Sims are also headed to the cinema with Electronic Arts partnering with LuckyChap – the production company of Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr – and Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment to make it happen.

Kate Herron, who’s best known for directing season one of Loki, is set to tackle the transformation from computer to big screen, and she will be co-writing the screenplay with Briony Redman.

What’s pretty likely is that The Sims will end up following a similar template to Barbie and The Lego Movie that went before, bending the game/toy world in a self-referential way and snapping it out into the real world.

Expect there to be references to the aforementioned “woo-hoo!”, perhaps some kind of reverence to or fourth wall breaking surrounding the iconic green control jewel that hovers over a person’s head, and the inevitable incident where someone gets stuck in a swimming pool because the ladder suddenly disappears or wets themselves because the toilet was deleted.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced domain registered

It appears Ubisoft have settled on a name for their heavily leaked remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag as a domain has been registered with the game’s name and “Resynced” added to the end.

The Black Flag Resynced domain was registered 25 days ago by a company Ubisoft has used previously, including for the registration of the latest Prince of Persia game.  Ubisoft have said they would be plundering their back catalogue for remakes and remasters but they have yet to officially announce this remake. That has not stopped lots of details leaking out.

It seems like the remake, which will use Anvil Pipeline engine, is going to feature some fairly big changes. The most notable change will be the removal of all the modern-day sequences so we will not see Rebbeca, Shaun and the others. The modern-day plot, which worked really well in the first few games with Desmond, has gradually been side-lined and only appears as text in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Replacing it will be “a few extra hours of content” including content that was cut from the original release, such as parts of Mary Read’s story.

Gameplay is said to be closer to the RPG style of the more recent games, with loot, stats for weapons, and a new inventory. The combat is is also said to lean more towards the style of the recent games. The map is the same size but will have more things to do, and modern systems mean there will be no loading screens when docking your ship and heading to land.

The report from the respected Jeux Vidéo Magazine suggests the game will now launch in early 2026, probably in March, which is a little later than previous reports. Ubisoft Singapore, Belgrade and Bordeaux are working on it, and some assets from Skull & Bones may be reused to save costs.

Sony had previously announced that from January 2026, PS4 games will no-longer be a guaranteed part of the PlayStation Plus monthly games lineup. Cross-gen games that have a PS4 version could certainly still be included – and there’s still tons of PS4 games being released – but it’s not going to be a requirement anymore.

Here’s Sony’s statement from the PS Blog:

As many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit, PlayStation Plus is also evolving with this trend and will focus on offering PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit starting January 2026. As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026. We may still provide titles that can be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date.

Please note, this won’t affect the PS4 Monthly Games that you have already redeemed from PlayStation Plus. You’ll continue to have access to games you’ve already redeemed as long as you remain a member.  For Game Catalog, PS4 games will still be available to play until it leaves the catalog as part of our monthly refresh.

We’ll continue to evolve the experience of PlayStation Plus and optimize the benefits you receive, including exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, online game save storage and more. As we shift our focus to PS5, we look forward to adding new PS5 titles monthly for you to enjoy.

The PS Plus January 2026 games should be officially revealed later today on the PlayStation Blog.

Rainbow Six Siege is back online – Ubisoft says “no indication” of personal data being stolen [Updated]

Update 30/12/25 – A Ubisoft spokesperson has issued a statement with some further details and reassurances over the reports of hacking affecting Rainbow Six Siege X over the weekend.

With the game back online, Ubisoft’s investigation is ongoing, but notes that actual effects were able to be rolled back and that neither personal data or game source code was compromised.

Here’s the statement:

Rainbow Six Siege recently experienced a cyberattack causing limited disruptions, including fake ban notifications and unauthorized credit grants. While we are continuing our investigation, as of this time, there is no indication that any personal data nor source code was compromised as a result of this incident. To help resolve the issue, we initiated a temporary server shutdown and rolled back the unauthorized credit grants. Rainbow Six Siege is currently back online and players are returning to the game.

The original story follows.

Rainbow Six Siege X is now back online after the servers were shut down for over two days while Ubisoft dealt with a massive security breach.  In the evening of 26th December players began to notice billions of in-game currency being added to their accounts and super rare skins being dropping into their inventories. Other players were banned, and some were unbanned.

Ubisoft have now rolled back all the data so players should have the correct amount of in-game credit, known as Renown. They state that players may find themselves in a queue to get back in to the game.

The event has kicked off a war of words between various hacking groups who are claiming they are responsible, and also that one groups have stolen the source code for every Ubisoft game. These claims seem to be an exaggeration and probably not true.

However, there is evidence to suggest that Ubisoft were not hacked at all. It is reported that Ubisoft had outsourced helpdesk support to a company in India and that an employee there was bribed to give “Panel Access” to a third party. This then gave the third party access to user accounts, ban functions and other facilities. If this is true then Ubisoft were not hacked, it was bribery and human corruption that caused the issues.

It is also reported that another group is contacting people on Telegram claiming they have their personal details from hacking Ubisoft, and they are demanding money. This appears to be a scam and they have no connection to the group that breached the Rainbow Six servers. Ubisoft have, so far, not stated that any user data was breached.

Ubisoft overhauled the decade-old tactical shooter in June of this year, renaming it Rainbow Six Siege X, and added a whole host of technical improvements, as well as transitioning the game to a free-to-play model.

Rainbow Six is also one of three games hived off to a separate Ubisoft company, along with Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.
