Eidos Montreal Has Been Hit With New String of Layoffs
According to several reports from past employees, Deus Ex and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos Montreal has been affected by a new string of layoffs. One of these reports comes from former gameplay director Samuel Daher. “Hey there! Was working at Eidos, loved it and would have stayed, but times are difficult,” Daher wrote on LinkedIn. “I’m eager to find a new professional home to drive design on new productions.” The studio has yet to make an official statement on the layoffs and the full number of affected employees is currently unknown. The studio notably laid off 75 employees back in April.
Details on the developer’s upcoming game, Fable:
What does it mean to be a hero? In last year’s trailer, that question was answered by Dave, a gardener-turned-giant with a chip on his shoulder. This year, we get a much darker take from Humphry, played by the British comedy actor Matt King. Humphry was once Albion’s greatest Hero, but those glory days are long gone. In Fable, Humphry will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of Albion.
Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will be supporting the ongoing development of Fable, which will be coming to players in 2025.

The first time was in January 2024, when Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the new Deus Ex project they had been working on got canceled by parent company Embracer Group. We later learned that the project was then shopped around to other publishers, but none picked it up because they felt it was too niche. At the end of March 2025, Eidos Montréal lost another 75 employees after its work on Playground's Fable reboot […]

Eidos Montreal Hit By More Layoffs As Staffers Take To Social Media To Confirm Job Losses
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos Montreal has been hit by more layoffs, as a number of former employees have taken to social media to confirm that they have lost their jobs with the company.
Samuel Daher, who worked as a gameplay director at Eidos Montreal, confirmed that they were laid off in a post on LinkedIn: “Hey there!” Was working at Eidos, loved it and would have stayed, but times are difficult.”
Earlier this year, Eidos Montreal revealed that it had laid off 75 staff following completion of a support role for a project at one of its sibling studios within Embracer. In early 2024, Embracer revealed that it had let go 97 staff members at EIdos Montreal and had cancelled development of a Deus Ex project that had been in the pipeline.
