Quick Share lets users share files to non-Galaxy devices over the internet, but there is a 5GB individual file size limit and a 5GB daily transfer limit. That’s changing this week (h/t: @theonecid on X) as Samsung has increased the daily transfer limit to 10GB while also bumping up the individual file size limit to 10GB. This was also confirmed by the official Quick Share page. Check out the screenshot below.

We’re glad to see this transfer limit boost as it makes Samsung Quick Share a more useful file transfer service. So you don’t have to rely on a third-party transfer app if you want to send larger files to an iPhone, Mac, or something different altogether.

In any event, you can update the Samsung Quick Share app (version 13.6.51.13) via the Galaxy Store to take advantage of the raised file transfer limits. The app store listing also notes two other changes: displaying the total file size for the recipient in the incoming pop-up menu and showing up to two lines for nearby device names.

Quick Share can share files even faster via QR codes

Right now, Quick Share works by finding nearby compatible devices through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. However, finding devices can sometimes take a lot of time, particularly when the phones aren't connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Google has developed a way to make connections faster, and that's through QR codes.

The latest beta version of Google Play Services (v24.20.13) introduces QR codes that users can scan to initiate an instant connection for sharing files wirelessly via Quick Share. When sharing files via Quick Share, the user can click the ‘Share With QR Code' option, which generates a QR code. The receiver can then scan the QR code, after which both devices will initiate a connection for file transfer.

You can watch the improved Quick Share feature in our video below.

This new feature isn't live on Android smartphones and tablets but is expected to be released soon. The feature may go live on devices running Android 15 in the future.

The new Quick Share feature is available on Android TV, Chrome OS, and Windows. It is as close as Android users can get to Apple's AirDrop feature for sharing files, text, URLs, and other things.

Google renamed Android’s Nearby Share to Quick Share to harmonize the branding with Samsung’s Quick Share. Irrespective of what it is called, Quick Share is an incredibly convenient way to transfer files across devices. It’s the closest AirDrop alternative on Android, and the feature could soon make it even easier to share files, thanks to QR codes.

Android Authority contributor Assemble Debug spotted an upcoming feature to Quick Share in the latest Google Play Services beta v24.20.13. In addition to locating phones in proximity, Quick Share could soon offer a QR code that the receiver can scan to speed up the connection process and begin sharing files.
