Wccftech’s Most Anticipated Multiplayer Games of 2026 – New Online Worlds

A collage of five characters from the five most anticipated multiplayer games of 2026, according to Wccftech.

Multiplayer games are unique in that they can last for years and years, even decades in some cases, but the excitement of a brand new release cannot be truly matched by DLCs or expansions for existing titles. Luckily, 2026 looks very interesting on the front of new multiplayer games releases. They're also quite varied, offering a variety of settings and gameplay formulas that are likely to entice many players throughout the year. Other Wccftech's Most Anticipated 2026 Games per genre: Role-Playing Games, Indie Games, Platformers, DLC/Expansion, Action, Shooters, Horror, Sports/Racing, Fighting, Adventure Games, Strategy/Simulation Marathon (March 2026 - PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X) […]

Sure, there's also Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation and even a rumored 'secret' fourth game, but those two games are going to be the centerpiece of the showcase due to air on January 22. GameStop Is Reportedly Shutting Down Hundreds of US Stores as Its CEO Might Get $35 Billion ‘Long-Term’ Bonus

A GameStop store entrance with a 'Cyberpunk 2077' poster on the door displaying the release date '12.10.2020'.

GameStop, the largest retailer dedicated to videogames, is reportedly shutting down hundreds of stores in the United States. The reports started appearing on social media and were quickly conflated into one very long list on the 'GameStop Closing List' blog, which reckons there are at least 410 GameStop stores confirmed to be closing and another 11 reported but as of yet unconfirmed. This is only the latest round of closures for the retailer headquartered in Grapevine, Texas. In the annual 10-K SEC filing issued in February 2025, the company stated: We have also initiated a comprehensive store portfolio optimization review […]

‘We Would Have Loved Baldur’s Gate 3 on Switch 2, But It Wasn’t Our Decision to Make’, Says Larian CEO

Larian CEO comments on Baldur's Gate 3 not making it to the Nintendo Switch 2.

The award-winning cRPG Baldur's Gate 3 couldn't possibly run on the original Nintendo Switch, as evidenced by a test made with a modded console that featured twice the amount of RAM (8GB instead of 4GB), with the game still bringing this 'Switch on steroids' on its knees. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 is a completely different beast. In some regards, it is even superior to the Xbox Series S, as Studio Wildcard's Lead Programmer just told me in an interview, and the Xbox Series S does run the game, albeit not very well. Additionally, there have been successful Switch ports […]

Xbox Developer Direct 2026 Features a ‘Secret’ Fourth Game, Says Insider

The image features Xbox DEVELOPER_DIRECT 2026, showing logos of Playground Games and Game Freak, with a schedule for January 22 at 10 AM PT, 1 PM ET, 6 PM GMT.

Yesterday, Microsoft officially confirmed that the Xbox Developer Direct 2026 will feature three games: Playground's Fable reboot and Forza Horizon 6, and Game Freak's new Beast of Reincarnation intellectual property. However, out of three Xbox Developer Direct presentations, on two occasions there were also secret announcements that Microsoft held off until the actual show. The very first time, in 2023, there was the reveal and shadow drop of Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, which was critically acclaimed but still proved insufficient to prevent Microsoft from shutting down the studio just over a year later. Thankfully, the Japanese developer was later resurrected […]

Pathea Games, the studio behind the 'My Time At' titles, just unveiled their most ambitious game yet, an open world steampunk fantasy action RPG titled The God Slayer. It's only the latest Chinese developer to go full triple-A action RPG after Game Science (Black Myth: Wukong), Leenzee Games (Wuchang: Fallen Feathers), Ultizero Games (Lost Soul Aside, although that one didn't turn out so well), and S-GAME for the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero. You can read an overview of The God Slayer in our dedicated article. Here, we're publishing an exclusive interview with Pathea's Business Development Director, Yongjin (Aaron) Deng, who […]

Wccftech had the opportunity to watch a one-on-one media presentation where Business Development Director Yongjin (Aaron) Deng introduced the game and answered our questions. Skyblivion Is Officially Delayed to 2026; It Will Be a ‘Living Project’ with Features Like Spellcrafting Possibly Coming Post-Launch

The Elder Scrolls Skyblivion with '2026' displayed prominently on a blue forest-themed background.

It was January 2023 when the Skyblivion team originally announced its targeted 2025 launch window. Throughout the past couple of years, the modders have stuck to their schedule, maintaining that they would be able to bring the ambitious total conversion project to fruition by the end of 2025. Today, though, Project Lead Rebelzize shared a video update to confirm that won't happen, as there are simply too many things left to do. The complete fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will, therefore, be released at some point in 2026. […]

Helldivers 2 Install Size on PC Shrinks by 85% Thanks to Nixxes

Group of soldiers with weapons facing alien creatures in a cave setting under the title 'Helldivers 2: Into the Unjust'.

The millions of players who regularly enjoy Helldivers 2 on PC (sales estimates put Steam owners at between 13 and 21 million) can rejoice, as the game's install size on this platform can now be reduced by around 85%. Helldivers 2 previously took roughly 154GB of space from a drive, but Nixxes (the Dutch PC port specialist that was acquired by Sony in July 2021) helped Arrowhead shrink it down to just 23GB, saving you 131GB of space. The developers have completed several rounds of internal QA and are rolling this out as a public technical beta. Internal testing shows […]

Eidos Montréal Might Have Canceled a Legacy of Kain Game; New Layoffs Reported

Characters from the game Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver are depicted in a vibrant, underwater-themed setting.

As spotted on Reddit's r/gamingleaksandrumors channel, renowned developer Eidos Montréal appears to have laid off more employees for the third time in less than two years. The first time was in January 2024, when Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the new Deus Ex project they had been working on got canceled by parent company Embracer Group. We later learned that the project was then shopped around to other publishers, but none picked it up because they felt it was too niche. At the end of March 2025, Eidos Montréal lost another 75 employees after its work on Playground's Fable reboot […]

The HDR Gaming Interview – Veteran Developer Explains Its Sad State and How He’s Coming to Its Rescue

An HDR gaming monitor displays a split-screen with the left side labeled 'Bad HDR Implementation' showing a dull image and the right side labeled 'Intended HDR' with a vibrant scene, alongside a magnifying glass over text reading 'Investigating Poor HDR Implementations in Gaming' listing issues like tone mapping and limited peak brightness.

Nearly ten years ago, I wrote an opinion piece about HDR gaming being the most groundbreaking feature of the upcoming PlayStation 4 console refresh, then known as 'PS4K' and later released on November 10, 2016, as the PlayStation 4 Pro. Initial information suggested that it would deliver HDR support, unlike the base PS4 model; however, Sony later rolled it out for regular PlayStation 4 consoles as well. These specifics aside, the article's core foundation was the belief that HDR gaming was poised to be the next big thing in computer graphics, even more so than 4K (Ultra HD) resolution. There […]

Aion 2 To Launch Globally in the Second Half of 2026; Monetization To Be Less Aggressive Than Throne and Liberty

A character from Aion 2 with long white hair and ornate armor is displayed with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX logo in the corner.

During its Q3 2025 quarterly report (as spotted by MassivelyOP), NCSoft announced that Aion 2 will debut on the global stage in the second half of 2026. The MMORPG is set to launch in exactly a week from today in South Korea and Taiwan for PC and mobile devices. Aion 2 is a direct sequel to the 2009 classic MMORPG. It's set roughly 200 years after the events seen in that game. Its massive game world is estimated to be around 1,200 square kilometers and features distinct biomes like dusty frontier towns, icy peaks, flowing rivers, and hidden labs. Just […]

The Warhammer MMO Is Also Canceled As NetEase Shuts Down Jackalyptic Games, Too

Warhammer battle scene next to JACKALYPTIC GAMES logo with a white hare and antlers on a forest background.

Yet another MMO bites the dust as the Warhammer project in the works at Jackalyptic Games has been canceled following the studio's shutdown. The news comes directly from founder Jack Emmert, an MMO veteran who was behind City of Heroes, Champions Online, and Star Trek Online. Later, he managed DC Universe Online while at Daybreak. When the DC Universe Online team was spun off as Dimensional Ink Games in early 2020, Emmert began working on an unannounced project that ultimately became a Marvel-based MMORPG. When that project got canceled by Daybreak's parent company, Enad Global 7, he established Jackalope Games […]

Anonymous Rockstar Employee Says There Were No Leaks and the Layoffs Were Indeed Union Busting

Rockstar Games logo on a gradient background.

After Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar fired 30-40 employees, the studio was accused of union busting by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain. Rockstar denied the accusations through a spokesperson and maintained that these employees had leaked information on a public forum. The latest chapter of the story saw an anonymous employee of the award-winning game development studio write a lengthy post on GTAForums, the biggest public forum dedicated to the series of best-selling open world videogames. This poster's identity was allegedly verified by a moderator at GTAForums. In the post, this employee claims that […]

Next BioShock Is Now on a Great Track to Take the Franchise to the Next Level, Says Take-Two CEO

Cloud Chamber and 2K Games logos appear with BioShock title on a game cover.

It's been twelve and a half years since Irrational Games launched BioShock Infinite, the last installment in the immersive single player first-person shooter franchise. Franchise creator Ken Levine notoriously decided to disband the studio and form the much smaller Ghost Story Games, which is now working on Judas. Levine recently stated that Judas shares some similarities with the BioShock franchise, but it is also different in many ways. Meanwhile, Take-Two's publishing label 2K announced in late 2019 that a brand new studio called Cloud Chamber, headquartered in Novato, California, would take stewardship of the BioShock IP. Cloud Chamber had its […]

GTA VI Delay Will Help Rockstar Exceed Expectations, Says Take-Two CEO; We’ve Never Regretted a Delay

Two GTA VI delay characters lean against a car in front of the Atlantis Hotel with palm trees silhouetted by a sunset.

A few hours ago, Rockstar Games announced the second GTA VI delay. Originally slated to launch in Fall 2025, the game was moved to May 26, 2026 on May 2, 2025. However, the studio has now requested more time to polish the game, which will launch on November 19, 2026. The news came just before Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, announced its Q2 2026 financial results. Predictably, investors questioned Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick on the matter during the earnings call; the executive stated that this new GTA VI delay will allow Rockstar not only to surpass but also to exceed the […]

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Director Criticizes The Outer Worlds 2, Says Obsidian Hasn’t Innovated Since New Vegas

Kingdom Come Deliverance II top and The Outer Worlds 2 bottom logos depicted in illustrated game settings.

It's not often that a developer comes out to publicly criticize another's work, and yet that is precisely what Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Game Director Daniel Vávra did yesterday via his X account. The game he targeted was Obsidian's latest roleplaying game, The Outer Worlds 2, which he scored 7 out of 10. Arguably, the most scathing bit was that, even with 'Microsoft's money' (Obsidian was acquired in November 2018 by Microsoft, alongside inXile), they haven't managed to innovate in the last fifteen years following the release of Fallout: New Vegas, which Vávra ranks among his favorite games. Here's the […]
