Mark's most anticipated PC games for 2026

2025 had video games. 2026 will have video games. GTA 6 might be one of those video games. However, it’s currently only pencilled in for console next year. Not that I considered writing about it in this sort of article two years running, just for a laugh. That’d be hackish and beneath the level I hold myself to. Well, by about three millimeters.

The Blood of Dawnwalker has no main quest, apparently, and now I'm a lot more interested in playing it

I'll be honest with you folks, as aware as I have been about The Blood of Dawnwalker, i.e. Not The Witcher 3 from some of the folks who helped make The Witcher 3, I have felt very disinterested in it. Sure, that recent look at gameplay certainly paints a polished at minimum picture, but at a cursory glance I have to admit I did just kind of write it off as vampire Witcher. Except I've now been quite quickly pulled in thanks to an important element of the game shared by its director in a new interview: there's no main quest.

Rebel Wolves’ The Blood Of Dawnwalker Doesn’t Have A Main Quest: ‘You Build Your Experience From The Quests You Encounter’

The director behind the upcoming The Blood of Dawnwalker at Rebel Wolves has revealed during an interview with Eurogamer that the RPG doesn’t have a traditional main quest, with the studio instead wanting to bring video games “closer to pen-and-paper RPGs.”

“No, there’s no main quest,” said Konrad Tomaskiewicz. “You build your experience from the quests you encounter. You know where your [enemy is]. You can attack this place anytime you want to. It’s up to you if you want to do it by yourself, or if you want to build yourself, find the powerful items, develop your character, or do some quests and find allies to help you do it.”

We want to bring video games closer to pen-and-paper RPGs and give you the freedom to experience what you want to experience.

It’s important to note that The Blood of Dawnwalker does have an overall narrative beating at its heart, namely the fact the main character Coen, has to save his family in 30 days and 30 nights. How you go about this is up to you then, but precious time is cost deepening on what you get up to in the game world.

“We wanted to take a step forward with the evolution and bring something new, and create our own area in the genre,” said Tomaskiewicz.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated to launch at some point in 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

Back in February, the game’s creative director revealed that the development team are looking to replicate this same quality with The Blood of Dawnwalker as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and is aiming for the main story to last around 30-40 hours — a smaller figure than The Witcher 3 as the team is not as big.

For those who are wondering about all the comparisons to The Witcher 3, it’s important to remember that Rebel Wolves is made up of a number of ex-CD Projekt RED staffers, including Tomaskiewicz, who directed the 2015 fantasy-RPG epic.

The Witcher 3 director's new RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker is different to that classic CD Projekt Red game in one big way: it doesn't have a main quest

When Konrad Tomaskiewicz, the former director of The Witcher 3 and now the director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, tells me his new role-playing game has no main quest, I have to ask him to repeat himself because that's an unusual thing for someone making an RPG to say.
