Polish developer Rebel Wolves has unveiled the main musical theme for its promising dark fantasy role-playing The Blood of Dawnwalker, and surprise surprise, it sounds a lot like The Witcher 3.
The Blood of Dawnwalker, an upcoming RPG developed by Rebel Wolves (itself founded by former The Witcher 3 developers) is coming out in 2026. In a New Year special, the developers gave this huge announcement, promising more would be unveiled leading up to launch.
All this and more was shown in a Jan. 3 "Launch Year Special," where Rebel Wolves' global community lead Dominika Burza and game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz recapped 2025 and gave us information about what's to come this year. The two finally revealed when The Blood of Dawnwalker would come out, saying it'd launch sometime in 2026, though they did not give us an exact date.
"We won't reveal the release date today, but you can expect to start hearing from us more and more," Burza said. We can expect to see more gameplay, content, characters, and other features of the game as the devs strive toward including the community and its feedback the game's creative process.

At Gamescom 2025, we spoke to Rebel Wolves and inquired about the game's development and ideas, some of which are akin to RPGs like Persona. The Blood of Dawnwalker seeks to be an innovative iteration on the RPG genre, implementing a time-passing mechanic that puts pressure on everything you do in the game. All of your actions have a "time cost," that you'll have to spend wisely, lest you fail the main quest by not reaching it... in time.
It's one of the most exciting RPGs that are coming out in 2026, and I cannot wait to see more of it.
Under the glow of the January Full Wolf Moon, developer Rebel Wolves, alongside publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, has shared a brand-new teaser for The Blood of Dawnwalker, offering another glimpse at what players can expect when the game launches in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The latest video, which you can…
2025 had video games. 2026 will have video games. GTA 6 might be one of those video games. However, it’s currently only pencilled in for console next year. Not that I considered writing about it in this sort of article two years running, just for a laugh. That’d be hackish and beneath the level I hold myself to. Well, by about three millimeters.
I'll be honest with you folks, as aware as I have been about The Blood of Dawnwalker, i.e. Not The Witcher 3 from some of the folks who helped make The Witcher 3, I have felt very disinterested in it. Sure, that recent look at gameplay certainly paints a polished at minimum picture, but at a cursory glance I have to admit I did just kind of write it off as vampire Witcher. Except I've now been quite quickly pulled in thanks to an important element of the game shared by its director in a new interview: there's no main quest.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is no doubt one of the highly anticipated games releasing next year.
Developed by former CD Projekt Red developers, the game follows the adventure of Coen, a human-turned-vampire, on his quest to save his family from the vampire Brencis.
And while the storyline sounds promising, as it turns out, the game actually has no main quest. At least that’s what Rebel Wolves’ director Konrad Tomaskiewicz revealed in an interview with Eurogamer.
“You build your experience from the quests you encounter,” says Tomaskiewicz. “You know where your enemy is. You can attack this place anytime you want to. It’s up to you if you want to do it by yourself, or if you want to build yourself, find the powerful items, develop your character, or do some quests and find allies to help you do it.”
According to him, he and his team wanted to give players the freedom to experience what they want to experience.
And this can be achieved by making the game as close to a pen-and-paper RPG as possible.

So in a sense, this means that from the get-go, you could just storm the place where your family is located. But then again, that would most likely end in a quick game over.
Hence, you’re still expected to explore the world, level up your character, do side quests, talk to NPCs, and do things that you’d normally do in a traditional RPG.
No Main Quest, Just Freedom to Do What You Want to Do
Despite the lack of a main quest, it’s still important to remember that there’s a 30-day time limit imposed by the game to save your family. How you spend those 30 days preparing for an encounter with the main antagonist is entirely up to you.
Although Tomaszkiewicz did mention that the game won’t end even if the 30-day time limit is over. However, they didn’t reveal any details about this yet, so we might have to wait until the game actually releases.
“We wanted to take a step forward with the evolution and bring something new, and create our own area in the genre,” Tomaszkiewicz said.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to release sometime in 2026 for PC and consoles. However, Rebel Studios hasn’t given the exact date yet.
The director behind the upcoming The Blood of Dawnwalker at Rebel Wolves has revealed during an interview with Eurogamer that the RPG doesn’t have a traditional main quest, with the studio instead wanting to bring video games “closer to pen-and-paper RPGs.”
“No, there’s no main quest,” said Konrad Tomaskiewicz. “You build your experience from the quests you encounter. You know where your [enemy is]. You can attack this place anytime you want to. It’s up to you if you want to do it by yourself, or if you want to build yourself, find the powerful items, develop your character, or do some quests and find allies to help you do it.”
We want to bring video games closer to pen-and-paper RPGs and give you the freedom to experience what you want to experience.
It’s important to note that The Blood of Dawnwalker does have an overall narrative beating at its heart, namely the fact the main character Coen, has to save his family in 30 days and 30 nights. How you go about this is up to you then, but precious time is cost deepening on what you get up to in the game world.
“We wanted to take a step forward with the evolution and bring something new, and create our own area in the genre,” said Tomaskiewicz.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated to launch at some point in 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
For those who are wondering about all the comparisons to The Witcher 3, it’s important to remember that Rebel Wolves is made up of a number of ex-CD Projekt RED staffers, including Tomaskiewicz, who directed the 2015 fantasy-RPG epic.
When Konrad Tomaskiewicz, the former director of The Witcher 3 and now the director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, tells me his new role-playing game has no main quest, I have to ask him to repeat himself because that's an unusual thing for someone making an RPG to say.
