EA's biggest franchises are undoubtedly its EA Sports games, but on the EA Entertainment side, beyond shooters like Apex Legends and Battlefield 6, it's The Sims that rules the roost as one of its biggest ongoing live service titles. What does 2026 hold for The Sims 4 and long-teased spinoff Project Rene? Developer Maxis and publisher EA are seemingly cooking up some big plans for the coming months and years, and there's probably some good and bad news depending on what brings you to the series. Personally, confirmation that Project Rene has now "evolved" into a social-focused, mobile-first game gets away from what I'm after. But the team says it's "committed to single-player life simulation experiences," and that's where we'll see the "next evolution" of The Sims.

I think as long as you make a new year's update post before the incredibly arbitrary date of January 13th, you're still able to do so without me thinking "come on, it's almost February", which is exactly what EA did with their new years Sims update post. Perhaps reassuringly, after word came last year of EA's concerning acquisition, the post opens by doubling down on what the team has previously said regarding staying committed to their values (those values including inclusivity is welcome though I wish they'd be more explicit about who is being included). But the post also, sort of, goes into what's next for the series.
