Last month, Xiaomi launched its first smartphone with a clamshell form factor and a foldable display, the Mix Flip, a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. After debuting the phone in China, the company confirmed that it would launch the phone in Europe with a price tag between EUR 1,300 and EUR 1,400. However, there was no information about when it would launch the phone there and exactly how much it would cost in the region. Well, now we have some information on the matter that could be troubling for Samsung.

On X/Twitter, @Sudhanshu1414 claims that Mix Flip is already available to purchase in Europe from a few retailers and costs EUR 1,299 in the region for 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant, which is the only memory configuration the company is offering there.

The story continues after the video…

In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 costs EUR 1,319 for the same memory configuration in Europe. So, the one from Xiaomi is undercutting the one from Samsung by EUR 20. Although that’s minimal, the Mix Flip is now technically more affordable than the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Will that hamper the sales of Samsung’s latest clamshell smartphone? Well, we don’t think so. That’s because of two reasons. First, while the Mix Flip has excellent specifications, it is still not as durable or polished as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Second, since it is the company’s first such device, people could avoid buying it in favor of the one from Samsung. That being said, Samsung could lose a few sales of its latest foldable clamshell phone in Europe due to the launch of the Mix Flip. It would be interesting to see which phone most people go with.

  • A report suggests that Xiaomi Hyper OS 2.0 may have a feature to detect hidden cameras.
  • The feature would use WLAN signals to scan for suspicious devices in the vicinity.
  • Frequent travelers would likely welcome such functionality, and it could be adopted by other brands.

You don’t have to be a spy to be concerned about concealed cameras. Frequent travelers are becoming more alert to the risk that they may be secretly filmed in their hotels or Airbnb. Advances in camera technology have also made places like changing rooms and public bathrooms easier to surveil covertly. Xiaomi might be leading the privacy fightback, with reports suggesting that its upcoming OS will be able to detect hidden cameras.

According to a report by Xiaomitime, a leak has revealed that Xiaomi Hyper OS 2.0 may include this novel feature. If true, it wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer had attempted to offer this functionality, but it would be the most advanced approach yet in terms of a smartphone feature.

  • This isn’t a surprise as the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones arrived in October 2023.

Qualcomm has already confirmed that its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor will launch in October, and it’s expected to power a host of high-end phones in 2025. But you won’t need to wait until 2025 to see the first phone with this processor.

Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu has claimed that the Xiaomi 15 will be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphone. The leaker reiterated that the phone will have a small flat screen, adding that it’ll be a “little rounder” than before.

When will the phone launch, though?

Smart Pikachu didn’t dish out a specific launch window. However, fellow leaker Digital Chat Station claimed in a now-edited post that the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phones would indeed launch at the end of October.

An October launch window for the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phones wouldn’t be a surprise. The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro launched in October 2023 as the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 handsets, after all.

However, we’re guessing that the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices will be China-only releases at first, with global launches following in the new year. This was indeed the case for the Xiaomi 14, which eventually received a global release in February 2024.

This isn’t the first time we heard about the Xiaomi 15 series being the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phone family, either. Leaker Yogesh Brar claimed back in April that Xiaomi had “exclusive first launch rights” for the new chip and would offer the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. Brar added that OnePlus and Iqoo would follow as the next OEMs to offer the new silicon.

Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 14 Ultra back in February 2024, and it’s certainly one of the best camera phones on the market. Now it looks like we might have the first Xiaomi 15 Ultra rumors.

Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station claimed that an upcoming premium Xiaomi phone still has four rear cameras, including two telephoto cameras. This suggests that we’re talking about the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, as its predecessor launched with a quad-rear camera setup (featuring two tele lenses). Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro offered triple-camera systems.

Every year the next Mi Band arrives bringing further refinements to the series, often delivering features previously reserved for much more expensive devices. Although we still have plenty of time before a new model, here’s my wishlist for what I’d like to see next year from the Xiaomi Mi Band 9.

A hardware back button

The Mi Band 8’s entire UI is navigated through touch, which can be a bit tricky with such a small display. I’d wager this is mostly about cutting costs, but it’s also likely at least a little bit about sticking with the Mi Band’s very barebones, minimalist philosophy. Still, a physical back button would make navigating the UI significantly easier, even if it might add a tiny bit of bulk over the current model and would clutter up the design slightly.

  • The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro could apparently follow in the footsteps of the 14 and 14 Pro as far as size is concerned.
  • That means the Xiaomi 15 could be a pocket-friendly high-end phone.
  • The phones could also offer new high-density batteries and a similar 50MP main camera as the current devices.

Xiaomi is usually one of the first brands to adopt the latest flagship silicon, and we’re expecting the Xiaomi 15 series to continue this trend in late 2024. What will we be getting with these Android phones, though? Well, a new leak out of China has revealed apparent details.

Leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that an upcoming Xiaomi flagship series (ostensibly the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro) is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and will enter the next stage of testing this month. Check out a machine-translated screenshot of the post below.

Xiaomi 15 series leaks via Digital Chat Station.

The leaker further claimed that the “1.5K/2K dual-size strategy” is unchanged. We’re guessing 1.5K refers to the Xiaomi 15’s screen resolution while 2K refers to the Xiaomi 15 Pro’s display resolution. An unchanged approach to size could be good news for people who want a sensibly sized yet pocket-friendly flagship phone. The standard Xiaomi 14 was slightly bigger than the Galaxy S24 but still a much smaller device than Ultra and Pro phones.

Digital Chat Station also asserts that the two phones will pack a similar Omnivision 50MP main camera as the current flagships. Furthermore, the phones are said to use new, silicon-based high-density batteries. The Xiaomi 14 series already uses high-density silicon batteries, but we hope newer battery tech means increased capacity or a smaller physical battery size.

Finally, the leaker seems to suggest that it’s unclear whether Xiaomi will adopt a new periscope camera and ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. We’re guessing that a new periscope lens and/or improved fingerprint scanner would apply to the Pro model.

As for a launch window, the leaker previously claimed that the Xiaomi 15 series would enter mass production in September, suggesting a Chinese launch in Q4 2024. But Xiaomi typically launches its mainline flagship phones globally at MWC in late February, so we’d still need to wait a while for a wider release.

Pod kapotou má Xiaomi 14 Ultra baterii s kapacitou 5 300 mAh a podporou 90W kabelového a 80W bezdrátového nabíjení.

února a 25.

  • Xiaomi has released a release plan for the global rollout of HyperOS, its latest update for its Android smartphones and tablets.
  • Most of Xiaomi’s flagship phones and many of its Redmi Note devices are slated to receive the update.
  • Note that an update to HyperOS is not an immediate guarantee that the phone will be updated to Android 14, as HyperOS exists independently of the Android platform, just like its predecessor, MIUI.

One of the highlights of the new Xiaomi 14 series is the new HyperOS software experience they ship with. HyperOS is a larger unified branding for Xiaomi’s entire ecosystem, and on the phone side, it is a noticeable update over the MIUI experience. The company has now shared its official rollout plan for HyperOS for global markets, and here’s when it will be released for your device.

Xiaomi’s official HyperOS account on X has shared a release plan for HyperOS for Xiaomi and Redmi devices. According to the plan, the rollout for several devices has already begun in the first half of 2024.

Xiaomi HyperOS Global update

As expected, Xiaomi’s flagship series will be one of the first in line to receive the update, though the company’s Redmi Note lineup won’t be left too far behind. Here is the complete list:

  • Xiaomi 13 series: Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Lite
  • Xiaomi 13T series: Xiaomi 13T, Xiaomi 13T Pro
  • Xiaomi 12 series: Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Lite
  • Xiaomi 12T series: Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi 12T Pro
  • Redmi Note 13 series: Redmi Note 13 4G, Redmi Note 13 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G
  • Redmi Note 12 5G series: Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G
  • Xiaomi Pad 6
  • Redmi Pad SE

It is important to remember that just like with MIUI, an update to HyperOS does not confirm an update to Android 14 by itself. You could also get HyperOS based on Android 13. Xiaomi has not explicitly mentioned that all these devices will be upgraded to Android 14 alongside HyperOS, so we must wait for their update rollout to learn more.

  • There could also be a satellite communication amplifier accessory for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but this may be restricted to China.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is launching in a few hours in China, and the phone is also expected to be launched globally in a few days. Xiaomi has made great progress with the cameras on its phone, and the Ultra series specifically really leans into the photography angle, with a Leica partnership and camera grip accessories. Even with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi could be launching a camera grip accessory, and this time, it could be launched globally too.

Leaker Ishan Agarwal has shared some new information about the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Most excitingly, he has shared official renders of the Leica Pro Kit/Case, mentioning that it will be available globally too. Past iterations of this accessory made it easier to hold the phone in landscape orientation and added a dedicated shutter button and zoom slider.

Xiaomi has teased the arrival of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in recent weeks, and we’re expecting the phone to debut globally at its MWC 2024 event. Now, the company has dished out our first official look at the phone while also confirming a few more details.

Company co-founder and CEO Lei Jun posted renders of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra on social media, and it largely lines up with previously leaked images. Check the renders out below.

The images show a phone available in black or white/silver color options. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra also appears to have a pleather back instead of a glass rear cover. Other design-related features include a metallic frame and an Oreo-style camera housing containing four cameras (including a periscope camera).

The phone was rumored to pack a flat screen instead of a curved display, but Xiaomi says on Weibo that it packs a “slightly” curved screen. However, an accompanying image (seen above) suggests that this seems more like a 2.5D screen than anything else.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera specs revealed

Xiaomi also shed more light on the camera system via its Weibo account. Starting with the main camera, you can expect a 50MP LYT-900 main camera (one-inch). The company says this packs a variable aperture able to open as wide as f/1.63.

Additionally, the company revealed that the phone will pack a 3.2x 50MP camera and a 5x 50MP periscope camera. These cameras both use an IMX858 sensor and have wide apertures for telephoto cameras, namely f/1.8 and f/2.6 apertures, respectively.

The periscope camera’s aperture, in particular, is an improvement over the f/3.0 aperture seen in last year’s Ultra phone. It’s also wider than the S24 Ultra‘s 5x camera (f/3.4). So we’re expecting improved low-light image quality at 5x compared to the Samsung phone.

Xiaomi confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will indeed debut globally on February 25 in Barcelona. However, the company also revealed on Weibo that the Chinese launch will take place on February 22. Either way, the wait is almost over for Xiaomi fans and people looking for a great camera phone.
