Horizon Forbidden West leaves PlayStation Plus Extra in Europe next month

Sony's own action-adventure game Horizon: Forbidden West is strangely leaving the PlayStation Plus Extra lineup next month. What makes it even odder is that only Europeans will be affected by this move.

While North Americans miss out on playing the Destroy All Humans franchise through PlayStation Plus Extra in September, Europeans are losing multiple highlight games, including Marvel's Midnight Suns, Nier Replicant, and Horizon: Forbidden West. It was shown in the "Last Chance to Play" section of the service.

Another Horizon game was taken off PlayStation Plus Extra in May

It made sense when Horizon: Zero Dawn left PlayStation Plus back in May as there's a rumor a remaster is in the works. However, the already PS5-released Forbidden West being taken off PlayStation's own service seems to be a mistake to fans. It seems like the company is cutting its own foot, and it's a lovely foot at that. You wouldn't think Netflix would remove Stranger Things, for example.

As highlighted by GameSpot, the full list of PlayStation Plus Extra games leaving the service in Europe next month includes:

  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Marvel's Midnight Suns
  • Alien Isolation
  • Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139...
  • Spiritfarer
  • Star Ocean: First Departure R
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope 4K & Full HD Remaster
  • Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Star Ocean: The Divine Force

North Americans, however, will miss out on these games:

  • NBA 2K24
  • Need for Speed Unbound
  • Destroy All Humans!
  • Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed
  • Spellforce: Reforged
  • Trials of Mana
  • Lost Judgment
  • Moving Out 2
  • Midnight Fight Express
  • Sea of Stars

A sign to come?

Hopefully, the removal of Horizon Forbidden West isn't a sign to come for the service. It currently has other first-party titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, and Sackboy's Big Adventure. You'd hope that PlayStation adds to the service more than it takes away. Thankfully, a promising indie called The Plucky Squire is heading to PlayStation Plus Extra on day one.

Final Fantasy 16 System Requirements

This Square Enix RPG is one of the best-lookers of this generation, so brace yourself for the Final Fantasy 16 PC system requirements. Even the minimum specs need 16GB of memory and an SSD.

The minimum Final Fantasy 16 PC system requirements you need

In order to play this epic adventure with Clive and crew, you'll need some beefy PC system requirements just to run the game at 720p with 30 frames per second. The Steam page lists the following:

  • OS: Windows 10 / 11 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel Core™ i5-8400
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 170 GB available space

Final Fantasy 16 has large open spaces to explore
Image via Square Enix

Final Fantasy 16 is a huge game, so it will require 170GB of available space on an SSD, no less. That is far bigger than another Square Enix game Kingdom Hearts 3, which only requires 75GB. Another action RPG from this generation Wild Hearts also only needed 80GB.

Final Fantasy 16 recommended specs, listed

To play Final Fantasy 16 with 60 frames per second at a 1080p resolution, you'll need the following specs in your PC:

  • OS: Windows® 10 / 11 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen™ 7 5700X / Intel® Core™ i7-10700
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT / NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 170 GB available space

If you need to test your rig and see if the game will work on your PC, there's thankfully a free demo available on Steam. It contains the first few hours of the experience, and you can carry on your save progress into the full game. Neat! Hopefully, your PC won't need a Phoenix Down after running (or attempting to run) Final Fantasy 16.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer shows more of Hyrule

Zelda's solo adventure in Echoes of Wisdom looks ever more exciting as a new trailer showcases the areas she'll explore. Like Link, it has been confirmed she'll be exploring the world by horse travel as well.

Multiple towns and biomes have been featured in a new The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer uploaded Monday. It shows the castle town of Hyrule, the hot Gerudo Desert, the scenic Jabul Waters, the green Faron Wetlands, as well as Kakariko Village near Eldin Volcano.

https://youtu.be/DolGuwvAnfg

The Echoes of Wisdom trailer also teases the conflict between the Sea Zora and the RIver Zora, which Zelda will likely help resolve during her journey.

Zelda rides a horse in Echoes of Wisdom

In addition to showing off the stunning world that Echoes of Wisdom offers, the trailer also confirms horse travel and side quests. While not as epic as Epona, this creature will help Zelda travel across Hyrule at a much faster pace. You'll be able to gallop over weaker enemies and jump over small obstacles like small hills and gates. To summon your horse, you'll need to make an echo (copy) of a carrot. The carrot will then fetch the horse over.

If you don't know already, one of the main mechanics of Echoes of Wisdom is that Zelda can make a copy of almost anything in the game to help her.

The ingredients you collect throughout Hyrule can also be created into smoothies. Nintendo didn't go into detail about this feature in the trailer but said, "Smoothies have different effects based on the ingredients you choose." Outfits and accessories will enhance your abilities as well like an increased swimming speed with Zora's flippers. Zelda's outfit will change in-game according to what you have equipped too.

Another new mechanic was showcased in the trailer called the Bind ability. With bigger objects like boulders, you can use the bind ability to move them out of the way as Zelda walks around. Bind will also help you get buried treasure. Reverse bond is also introduced in the trailer, letting you move with a currently shifting platform or creature like a flying bird. This Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer has certainly intrigued this casual fan of the series.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches for the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024. It's certainly going to be the most unique Zelda game on Switch.

Some of the best selling PS2 games include GTA San Andreas and Kingdom Hearts

The PS2 is arguably the best console ever created with many popular franchises like Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and God of War taking root on the system. Other series really took off during this generation of consoles, like the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Here are the 10 best selling PS2 games, ranked by sales numbers.

10. Kingdom Hearts

Image via Square Enix and Disney

The strange crossover between Disney and Square truly worked during the PS2 generation of consoles with over 5.9 million copies sold worldwide, as of 2007. Sora, Donald, and Goofy fought against dark creatures called the heartless in Disney worlds we all know and love like The Little Mermaid's Atlantica and Hercules' Olympus Coliseum. The action-RPG system is fast-paced, and lets you summon the likes of Dumbo and Genie to the battle. While the first game hasn't aged the best, the Kingdom Hearts franchise is still beloved worldwide.

9. Final Fantasy XII

Final Fantasy 12 sold around 6 million copies

After the success of the 10th entry, Final Fantasy XII took us back to the world of Ivalice, featuring kingdoms and olden-style language. It sold over 6 million copies, according to a 2009 interview with Yoshinori Kitase in Gendai. This entry in particular was different from other entries in the series, as it featured a real-time system similar to an MMO. "It was a triumph in many ways with its open world combat flow and groundbreaking (at the time) AI-manipulating gambit system," said our review for the remaster The Zodiac Age.

8. Tekken 5

Tekken 5 features Devil Jin and new characters like Asuka.

Tekken 5 is also reported to have sold around 6 million units. This is the fighting game sequel that introduced the fan-favorite characters Asuka and Lili, in addition to the badass Dragunov and Raven. The game has an impressive 88 Metacritic score based on 62 reviews. "Better balancing, a ton of gameplay modes, smarter AI, and high-quality presentational elements are tough things to beat -- but Tekken 5 has all of them," said IGN's review when the game was released in 2005.

7. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Metal Gear Solid 2 is one of the best selling PS2 games

When you combine the reported sales of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Substance, you'll find that a total number of 7.03 million copies were picked up at stores. Launching in 2001, this game was a gigantic step in Hollywood-style storytelling within games. The second title also added a first-person camera for aiming down sights and the ability to hold foes up at gunpoint. Many love this game, despite a surprising switch of the main protagonist.

6. Grand Theft Auto III

Grand Theft Auto III sold very well on the PS2
Image via Rockstar Games

Grand Theft Auto III revolutionized gaming when it first came out on October 22, 2001 because of its big open world mechanics and mature content. As a result, it sold around 8.3 million copies worldwide. I remember going around my friend's house at nine years old and being amazed at how open the game was, and freaked out by how many atrocities could be performed by the player. A remaster was released for this game, but the less said about that, the better.

5. Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X was a PS2 masterpiece
Image via Square Enix

Final Fantasy X was the best-selling PS2 game in the series at over 8.5 million copies, according to a 2013 press release. This was a big deal back in 2001. FFX was the first game in the RPG franchise to have voice acting with James Arnold Taylor as Tidus and Hedy Burress as Yuna. The elaborate love story between the two main characters also attracted many to the RPG. Composer Nobuo Uematsu also constructed a musical masterwork in the game's soundtrack, with standout tracks like "Movement in Green," "To Zanarkand," and of course, the epic battle theme.

4. Gran Turismo 4

Gran Turismo 4 sold very well on the PS2

The Gran Turismo series was huge during the PS2 generation, as its modern competitor Forza was yet to take shape. It drew 11.76 million racing fans to buy the game from store shelves in 2004. This game was praised for its fantastic graphics at the time and simulation mechanics. "Gran Turismo 4 is the Encyclopedia Britannica of driving, with more than 700 distinct sets of wheels to prove it, and introduces you to it with the restrained reverence of a martial arts instructor," said Eurogamer's review. "It wants you to win through training and discipline, not brute force and chrome elbows to the side paneling."

3. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Grand Theft Auto Vice City is the fourth best selling PS2 game.
Image via Rockstar Games

The Grand Theft Auto series began to take over the industry with its next entry, Vice City. It sold a total of 14.2 million copies worldwide (according to the Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer's Edition book). This entry took us back to the '80s; the theming was exceptional, with a fantastic soundtrack and neon throughout the city everywhere. It also features an engaging narrative following Tommy Vercetti, voiced by Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta. "The game of fast cars and ruthless criminals packs more action and excitement into the first few hours than can be found in the entirety of most games," said IGN's 2003 review.

2. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

Gran Turismo 3: A Spec sold almost 15 million copies on PS2
Image via PlayStation

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec accelerated excitement from the PlayStation 2 fanbase even more, with almost 15 million copies sold in 2001 and beyond. It brought incredible visuals for racing enthusiasts at the time, and likely convinced many to take the leap from the PS1 to the PS2. The official website says the game added "impairing sunglare, shimmering heat waves, real-time reflections" and more to make this game as realistic as possible at the time. There was also an Arcade mode and a Simulation mode added to Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec to make it as appealing to a wide audience as possible.

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is the best selling PS2 game
Image via Rockstar Games

Arguably the best of the PS2 trilogy, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is on top of the best selling PS2 games list with 17.33 million copies reportedly purchased by PS2 players around the world, according to the Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer's Edition. Playing as Carl Johnson, you're living in the '90s, trying to save Carl's family after his mother was murdered and trying to flee corrupt cops who frame him for homicide. The game has an amazing 95% Metacritic average rating from 80 outlets.

Game Informer gave it a perfect score, saying "San Andreas breaks the video game mold and emerges as something far greater." (Via Metacritic) Despite a terrible remaster much later on, it seems to still hold a place in many fans' minds as one of the best in the series.

  • [S Costume] First Officer- Goro Akechi
  • [A Costume] Coordinator - Makoto Niijima
  • [A Costume] Mechanic - Ann Takamaki
  • [A Costume] Gardener- Haru Okumura, Emote, Portrait, and Graffiti.

You can also get the 'Regular' and 'Souls of Resistance' costumes from past Identity V crossovers with Persona 5 Royal. "For those who missed the last Persona Crossover Event and were unable to obtain the sought-after costumes, this is the perfect opportunity to join the new activities and complete your collection," said the press release. Past characters include Joker, Ryuji, Yusuke, and Futaba.

Persona 5 and Identity V collab is looking pretty cool.

Identity V seems very much inspired by the popular Dead by Daylight. It's a 1v4 survival game, in which one player plays the monster while four others play the survivors. It's free to play on PC, Android, and iOS. For now, it's not available on consoles like the PS5 or Switch yet.

As for the Persona series, Atlus has a mobile spinoff on the way in Persona 5: The Phantom X. It has already been released in some territories on April 18 but will be getting a global launch for both mobile and PC with consoles down the line, according to Persona Central. It seems to have its own storyline and characters with high-quality cutscenes you'd expect from a mainline title. However, it will be gacha-based like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.

How to beat Dror Ragzlin in Baldur's Gate 3

The three goblin leaders in Baldur's Gate 3 are tough to handle, especially Dror Ragzlin. He deals a ton of damage to anyone he hits. However, with the right preparations, you can make it through. Here's how to take out Dror Ragzlin in Baldur's Gate 3.

How to take out the Baldur's Gate 3 Dror Ragzlin boss

The easiest way to defeat Dror Ragzlin in BG3 is to push all his goblin soldiers down the pit while your tankiest characters deal with him. Make sure you always have someone ready to heal whoever is taking blows from his Faithbreaker warhammer. Additionally, keep his goblin allies away from him to prevent his Aura of Leadership from boosting their damage. If you want his magic warhammer, the Faithbreaker, you must not push the red hobgolin down the pit.

If you've already fought another one of the goblin leaders in Baldur's Gate 3, make sure to rest up before the Dror Ragzlin fight begins. Either a Short or a Long Rest at the camp will do. Taking the latter, however, will let you recover your more powerful spells and abilities. This red-skinned hobgoblin, Dror Ragzlin, is much more powerful than the other two goblin bosses. He has 52 HP and is Level 5. He can dish out upwards of 21 damage in one strike, as well, so be careful.

Dror Ragzlin BG3
Screenshot by Destructoid

Before taking on the Dror Ragzlin fight in BG3, find the war drum on the right-hand side. It's next to the stairway in that area. If you fail to destroy it straight away with an arrow or a spell, you'll be facing nine enemies in total after taking out Dror Ragzlin. It could be too much to handle, but honestly, it can also be tough to take out on your first turn. You might want to have someone like Astarion nearby to eliminate it ASAP.

Try to take out Dror Ragzlin as quickly as possible during the fight. In order to do this, try to use a spell that stuns him for a move or two. I used Tasha's Hideous Laughter on him. It's not a guaranteed move, but if it lands, it will leave Dror Ragzlin prone with crazed laughter. He'll be phased, leaving you a chance to get a lot of damage in before he could even say hello. You can get in an extra attack with Lae'zel's Action Surge and then try to take his hammer off his hands with a powerful Disarming Strike. Using several strikes in a row can really rack up the damage on him. Shadowheart's Inflict Wounds can also effectively lower a foe's health. His 52 HP will dwindle down to zero in no time.

Dror Ragzlin may also take a lot of health from your party, so try to get a healer into the squad to remedy a potentially bad situation. Just be careful while doing this during Dror Ragzlin's Honour Mode fight, as buffing your allies can make things complicated with his passive. Outside of that, you'll want to remove his minions from the picture. They'll be fairly easy to dispatch, but just in case, you can quicksave after eliminating Ragzlin if you're in one of the regular difficulty modes. On the left-hand side, near the stairway, there's a ladder that can help archers get a better aim at their victims down below. It also helps if you can make it past the guards to avoid spending resources before fighting Dror Ragzlin in BG3.

How to make it past the guards

Once you enter the goblin's prison, you're stopped at the front gate by security. Warrior Trinzas asks what your intentions are. There are multiple ways to go about this. As a magical class, I was able to peer through her mind. There's an Intelligence check, but it's fairly easy to beat, especially if you manually save just before the encounter. If you lose the roll, they will all attack you. When you succeed, she'll tell you about the True Souls that have gathered in their base.

Baldur's Gate 3 prison guard
Screenshot by Destructoid

Tell Trinzas that you're here for the True Souls, and they'll let you through. You can also use some Deception to pass through the guards. This is difficult, however, as you'll need roll over 15 on your D20 dice. The first option is likely better if you're not specialized in Deception.

Where to find Slurp Cactus in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3

Once you find Slurp Cactus in Fortnite, they can help you gain shields and finish a weekly quest. Here's where to spot them in this big battle royale open world.

Slurp Cactus in Fortnite location

The Slurp Cactus is a new interactive object in Fortnite that lets you gain shields after ramming it with a vehicle or hitting it with a weapon. They can be found all over the new desert area to the south of the Chapter 5 Season 3 map. Find a car near a location like the Nitrodome and while driving, look on both sides of the road. You'll see cacti that have blue gooey leaves on them. Ram into these plants and you'll gain a shield boost.

Slurp Cactus Fortnite location and map
Screenshots by Destructoid

One of the Weekly Quests asks you to restore 300 health or shields with the Slurp Cactus. Once this is completed, you'll net yourself 15,000 XP. It also accounts for the bonus goals, which ask you to complete a certain amount of Weekly Quests. If you finish 12, for example, there is a 25K experience bonus.

Other Weekly Quests in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3

The other weekly quests in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 are a cakewalk. Nitro Fists are a new weapon in the game that let you punch your foes to elimination. Get 400 damage with the Nitro Fists, and you'll get yourself another 15K experience points. The best way to take them out is to uppercut them, then smash your fists down while you're in the air.

Additionally, you can damage opponents with your car by either ramming them or modding a weapon to the top of your vehicle. You can collect them from boxes strewn throughout the map. Another quest is to go through a Flaming Boost Hoop.
