Ubisoft cut staff at Splinter Cell devs Ubisoft Toronto, as part of their push to save €200 million

Ubisoft are laying off around 40 people at Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind the forthcoming remake of the original Splinter Cell. That’s approximately eight percent of the studio headcount. It’s all in the service of Ubisoft’s drive to cut costs after restructuring their operations around a big dollop of Tencent funding, which has elsewhere seen Ubisoft propose to lay off up to 200 people in Paris, and chop fixed costs by €200 million over the next two years.

Whatever happened to boxing games? Fight Night Round 3 wore my thumbs out, and 20 years on I still love it for it

I miss boxing - not that I ever did it. It used to be a kind of combat-sport backbone running through the country. I remember sleeping at a friend's house when Frank Bruno was fighting Mike Tyson in 1989, and us kids were listening to the fight on a radio upstairs while our parents listened to it on a radio downstairs. Their cheers led ours. Boxing matches were big deals, they were moments where everyone seemed to turn around, but where are they now? Lying on the canvas alongside Jake Paul.

This Red Dead Redemption 2 mod turns the western into Cowboytamari Damacy, but you'll likely never be able to try it

Ah, hello, Prince Arthur. This is King Dutch. Long time no see. We thought today would be a good day for rolling. The katamari. The gunslinger suffering from tuberculosis. Where the first rolls the second follows. Roll, roll, roll.

That, essentially, is the ethos behind a Red Dead Redemption 2 mod which streamer Blurbs created late last year, and has since shown off in a video that's heavy on large masses of horses and pardners being rolled into rootin' tootin' chaos balls.

What makes a great remake?

30. Listopad 2025 v 11:36

Remakes, you either love 'em or hate 'em! Or, more probably, you like some of 'em, aren't too keen on others, and are largely ambivalent to the rest. Whatever your perspective, it's obvious remakes - beloved of risk-averse publishers across the industry - aren't going anywhere. They offer the perfect maelstrom of nostalgia bait and brand recognition, meaning they're an easier sell compared to entirely new games, and if players love them, why stop now? But not all remakes are created equally; for every Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill 2, there's an XIII - a remake so bad its publisher was forced to remake it. Which raises the question - you might call it the Big Question - what makes a remake great?

Design Mockument: What would a Final Fantasy XI Reforged look like?

21. Listopad 2025 v 18:00
So this week’s moment of “unexpected but very, very good” news is the announcement that Guild Wars is getting a new “Reforged” update that does things like bump up some graphical quality and add some general experience improvements, for players on multiple devices.
