Wikipedia Nintendo Microsite

After the release of Tears of the Kingdom, I was afraid that we would never see a new game in the style of the 2D Zelda game. Yet, I have been proven wrong when this game was announced. To be very honest, I didn’t have very high hopes for this game. Especially since this game was announced this summer and released in late September. I felt that this game going to be a game to fill a gap while the developers are working on a much larger game. Now, the game is released, and I have played through a fair chunk of it. So, what is my opinion on this game? Well, that’s what I’m going to tell you in this first impressions article, while I all invite you to leave a comment of your thoughts and/or opinions in the comment section down below.

Renewing the Echoes

After a short introduction where you play as Link, the main story of this game is introduced. There are all consuming interdimensional rifts appearing all over Hyrule, and it’s eating various people in the kingdom.

Link gets eaten by one of those rifts while freeing Zelda and when Zelda tells her father, the king, about these rifts… A new rift appears and replaces the king with an evil clone of himself. Zelda gets thrown in the dungeon and there she meets a fairy named Tri. This fairy gives Zelda a special staff where she can summon objects into the world using echoes. With those echoes, she escapes the dungeon and sets out on an adventure to save Hyrule from doom before the land is fully consumed by the rifts.

Something I always love about the Zelda games is that there is a different core mechanic at the base of the game. In this game, we get two things. We got the rifts to another dark world, but we also got the magical staff, which we can use to summon various echoes into the world. These echoes mean you can tackle this game in various different ways. But I’ll talk more about that later in this article.

In terms of story, this game is hitting all the same beats as your typical Legend of Zelda game. It might be disappointing, to some, that in this game there is no voice acting anymore apart from the grunts and various emotional noises. Personally, I think it adds to the charm of this game. That’s because the characters in this game are way more expressive. While the story isn’t going to leave you at the edge of your seat of “what’s going to happen next”, it’s still well quite enjoyable, and the more expressive characters add quite a lot to the charm and atmosphere of the game.

Something I really like is how in this game, you are free to explore the world at your own peace. This game isn’t limiting you to go in a certain order. While this game isn’t fully open world like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, it’s somewhere in between. You can tackle parts in a different order. Like the first two major dungeons can be done out of order. Each area is its self-contained puzzle, and everything you need can be found in that general area.

In my introduction of this article, I said that I was afraid that was afraid that this game would be a short one where you were able to beat it in a few hours. That it was going to be a game that’s supposed to hold players over for the “next big 3D Zelda title”. To my surprise, this game is rather lengthy for a 2,5D Zelda game. It clocks in at 25 hours of casual playtime, which is, to my knowledge, one of the longest 2,5D Zelda games.

Climbing with beds

Something I find myself doing quite a lot while playing this game was climbing the area with beds. I summoned various beds stacked on top of each other to climb a wall. Since, I wanted to know if the developers hid a secret on that cliff face.

The exploration of this version of Hyrule is a blast to do. While you visit a lot of familiar places and meet your usual suspects like the Zora and the Gerudo, it’s a treat seeing them again. The only thing I missed a bit is showing the impact of the rifts. Something that this game only tells through dialogue was how things got impacted by the rifts. I wish it was shown a bit more visually. Like different animations of the characters before and after. But maybe, Tears of the Kingdom set the bar a bit too high for those expectations where each major area had a certain curse.

In terms of gameplay, this game really leans into the echoes mechanic. It also remembers that Zelda is a princess and didn’t really have combat training. So, you have to use summoned enemies to your advantage to let them fight for you. Now, you do have a sword, but you can only use it when your power meter has charge. I always reserved that for the dungeon bosses or when the situation got pretty dicey. Since recharging that meter is either done with potions or by defeating monsters from the rift world. These enemies aren’t exactly common in the overworld, and the energy bar drains fast.

In general, this game hits the same general gameplay beats as all other Zelda games. You go from dungeon to dungeon, learning a new technique or skill, defeating the boos and moving forward to another dungeon. There are also side quests in this game, that give you a nice reward. In this game, you also have a nice system to keep track of these side quests, like in Tears of the Kingdom. Something they also brought over from that game is the cooking system to a degree.

That’s something I personally feel mixed about. Maybe it’s me, but I feel the ingredients are quite rare to come by and there is no real way to farm certain ingredients like in Breath of the Wild. I have to admit that it adds a certain charm to this game, but I feel it’s a bit under implemented here. Like when you first meet the potion creators Deku shrubs, they talk about recipes… And I had a hard time finding any.

Like in Tears of the Kingdom, you can also eat most of the ingredients without cooking them. While I personally dislike the fact you have to do two clicks to consume an item, I do understand why they did it. To avoid you consuming them too much. Yet, this is a change from the two previous games and I honestly really feel it’s a set backwards. A fine solution would be to give the player an option to switch between both systems.

Grezzo playset

This game was co-developed by Grezzo. Their previous original Zelda game was Tri Force Heroes. But, this game looks very similar in graphical style to the remake of Link’s Awakening on the Nintendo Switch from late 2019.

This game looks like a plastic toy set and it looks amazing. While I was playing this game, I felt amazed at how expressive they were able to make everything without breaking the illusion that this is a toy set brought to live by our imagination. I don’t have a lot of complaints about the visuals and animations. And most of my complaints aren’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Just like, I don’t have any complaints about the music and sound design of this game. If you take the music and sound design in a vacuum, you would say that it sounds just like very other Zelda game. It sounds like a remix of the familiar melodies we all know and love from the Zelda games. But, this isn’t a problem, since it sells the illusion that you are a child playing with a sort of Playmobil toy set of Hyrule and trying to recreate the sound effects and music of the game.

In terms of controls, this game plays like a dream. I rarely had problems with the controls and something I really like is the fact that with one press of a stick, you can see a view from on top when you feel the camera is blocking something. Now, there is one thing that I do have some things to criticize about. And that’s about the jumping.

It’s pretty difficult sometimes to judge how high Zelda can jump. I had moments in combat where I wasn’t aware I could jump on a higher ledge until I saw an enemy jumping backwards on that ledge. I also got tripped up several times with how far Zelda can jump. Her jump is shorter than I think, and the amount of times I jumped into a pit misjudging the jump is quite a lot. Something that would have helped is something a small landing shadow when Zelda was coming down. Then again, that must have been a nightmare to implement… So, maybe I should keep her shorter jump just better in mind.

Now, something else. Something I really like is how this game has two difficulty modes. I’m playing through this game on the normal difficulty setting and I have to say, I’m happy that I did. This game can lure you into a false sense of security. I wouldn’t say that this game is hard, but it isn’t a cakewalk either. You really need to keep your wits about you and think fast sometimes.

Being aware of what’s around you is also quite important since this game loves to hide things in little side area’s and using the map system is a must. I love how you can put pins and such on the map. Yet, I have to admit that I still keep notes in my phone like: “treasure in Gerudo dungeon, need to check later”.

The more I play through this game, the more I realize that the critiques I can make about this game are more on the minor side. Like how it feels like a waste of time when you are scrolling through a long list of echoes when you just want to find one. An easy solution would be to give the player an ability to favorite certain echoes. But then again, the sort function in the quick menu has “most used”, “recently learned” … So, it’s kinda that.

Now, you have two save slots in this game. So, you can play through this game and let a friend or a sibling play through a different slot. Now, this game also autosaves for you frequently, in case you forget to save. The game also keeps like several autosaves in case you want to return to an earlier point.

Something I really like is how this game also has a quick travel system. The system works similarly like an owl statue in Majora’s Mask or a water vane in Link Between Worlds. It makes it easy when you feel stumped by a puzzle and want to return later. The fast travel locations are very fairly placed all over the land.

While I went quite critical in this game, the more I played it, the more it won me over. This game is a new 2,5D Zelda adventure game I hope we were going to see again. The last new, non remake 2,5D Zelda game was released almost 11 years ago. And, I’m so happy to see a return to this style. I’d love to see a this style also making an appearance very so often since it’s clear there are still various unique ways to explore Hyrule and tell a story about the Hyrule legend without going fully 3D.

Apart from a few small complaints you read in this article, I honestly don’t have any major complaints about this game. This is a game I’m going to finish for sure, since I’m enjoying my time with this title quite a lot. If you are into the series, I highly recommend this title to you. If you enjoy exploration and playing with unique mechanics, I also think this game is for you. This game is totally worth it’s price tag and it pleasantly surprised me.

And with that said, I have said everything I wanted to say about this game for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope to be able to welcome you in another one, but until then, have a great rest of your day and take care.

It’s no surprise to know mobile gaming continues to take on the gaming industry by storm. According to Statista, total smartphone gaming revenue was estimated at over 63 billion U.S. dollars worldwide in 2020 alone.

Since mobile media takes more of our time, the daily time mobile users use their devices is expected to grow to 234 minutes by 2021. More internet users across the globe are now using their smartphones to browse the web and play games, rather than the traditional means of using a PC or laptop.

With that in mind, here are 10 of the best upcoming mobile games for both Android & iOS devices you shouldn’t miss!

Apex Legends Mobile

This popular Battle Royale title will soon have its official mobile port debut! Slated for a 2021 release, Apex Legends fans can expect to experience the battle for glory, fame, and fortune on the fringes of the Frontier— all on the small screen.

Apex Legends Mobile is being developed by Tencent and Respawn Entertainment. If everything goes according to the plan, the mobile version of the game may launch by October 2021.

Choose among a growing roster of powerful, diverse Legends, each with their own unique personality, strengths and abilities. Brace yourselves for deep tactical squad play and new innovations that will truly take your Battle Royale experience to the next level.

Since Apex Legends is known to have a number of huge maps, it’d be difficult for outdated, old mobile devices to smoothly run such a demanding game.

Ideally, players must have an A11 Bionic chip in their iOS devices to run Apex Legends mobile (iPhone 8 – above) while Android users will need at least a Snapdragon 625 processor or even better.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Heads up, The Witcher fans! An AR game is coming your way on mobile. The Witcher: Monster Slayer features a combat system and is heavily reminiscent of the original game series’ elements.

The location-based augmented-reality RPG challenges players to become a professional monster hunter, where they can venture out into the world and use their mobile devices to track witcher-world monsters that roam close-by. Much like Pokemon: Go!

Set long before the time of Geralt of Rivia, start  your journey as an elite monster slayer. Be careful, as dangerous beasts may now be surrounding you. An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but fans are anticipating its arrival in 2021.

Diablo Immortal

Blizzard officially confirmed its plans to bring the ARPG classic franchise to mobile phones!

Diablo, considerably one of the world’s most popular action role-playing game (RPG) series, will be known on mobile as Diablo Immortal. It is a mobile Massively Multiplayer Online Action RPG (MMOARPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment in partnership with NetEase, coming exclusively to Android and iOS.

It will be a touchscreen-controlled take on the classic Diablo ARPG formula featuring new character classes, gameplay mechanics and locations. Fans will have to wait for news from Blizzard on a confirmed official release date, with more beta tests planned later this year.

Here’s a more detailed description from the game official website:

“Experience the world of Sanctuary, teeming with monsters and adventure, zones and dungeons to scour for legendary loot, and deep customization systems iconic to Diablo.”

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier

Do you have what it takes to become history’s first SOLDIER? FF7: The First Soldier, a battle royale spin on the titular classic franchise, is coming to Android and iOS devices later this year.

The battle royale prequel is expected to feature a typical multiplayer shooter gunplay, but with magic spells (fireballs, cures and shield barriers,) Final Fantasy summons, and Chocobos on the battlefield. Players will also have a plethora of weapons, items and abilities at their disposal.

Based on its teaser trailer, the Shinra Electric Company is looking to upgrade its military forces by forming the Soldier program— which apparently puts them to the test in a big multiplayer fray.

Square Enix confirmed in a news release that the upcoming mobile title is set before the events of Final Fantasy 7.

Pokémon Unite

Pokémon meets League of Legends? Sign us up! Pokémon Unite is considered as Pokémon’s League of Legends-style spinoff in a nutshell. This strategic team battle game is developed by The Pokémon Company and Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios.

The concept of a Pokémon MOBA game shouldn’t surprise its fans, as battling is one of the series’ primary defining factors. The free-to-play game also switches the usual aggro-focused MOBA formula to be more about competing to catch different Pokémon.

Players go head to head against each other in 5-on-5 team battles, where they will have to work with their teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon.

The goal also includes taking control over multiple points across the map and earning more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.

Pokémon Unite is set to be made available for cross-platform between Switch and mobile.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

Wands at the ready, Harry Potter fans! It has been years since the last Harry Potter movie but the magic continues to live on in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. The mobile game for iOS and Android is now available for pre-release registration in China.

The game combines RPG story-telling and card-based combat, with the premise set in the 2008–2009 school year.

The game is developed by Warner Brothers and Netease under the Portkey Games umbrella and was first announced on October 30, 2019. A confirmed global release is yet to be announced— so stay tuned!

Stumble Guys: Multiplayer Royale

Fall Guys on Mobile? Check out Stumble Guys: Multiplayer Royale! It’s arguably the best Fall Guys clone on mobile, featuring a massively multiplayer party knockout game with up to 32 players online.

It also has the same vibrant cartoonish graphics to that of its PC counterpart. The challenge is to struggle through levels round after round of escalating chaos, until one victor remains.

If you end up falling in your tracks, it’s not game over yet! Just make sure to start again and run. Dive into ridiculous challenges, bizarre obstacles, and knock down your rivals to totally wipe them out of the game.

As of writing, Stumble Guys is currently only available on the Google Play Store. The iOS version is reportedly still in development.

PUBG: New State

Let’s add a little more modern warfare dash to the traditional PUBG formula with the futuristic new battle royale game PUBG: New State. Set in 2051, the mobile BR title takes place years after the current PUBG games (which are set in approximately modern times) on a new map called Troi.

It promises to bring a new addition of futuristic weapons and vehicles, such as drones and deployable combat shields. New State is set to dive deeper into the lore of the overall PUBG universe, much to the delight of long time PUBG and BR fans.

Like other BR titles, only the strongest will be hailed as the “Lone Survivor” in this epic showdown.

PUBG Studio promises “ultra-realistic graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming” for the action-packed mobile BR title. It will be available on Android and iOS devices sometime later in 2021, with alpha tests scheduled for later this year.

Global Offensive Mobile

Although this mobile FPS shooter is currently in its closed beta stage, it is possibly the most blatant CS:GO clone on handheld devices.

It is developed and published by a Thailand-based gaming studio called “Cheese WT.” Some long-time CS:GO fans might believe it’s the official CS:GO mobile version, but this project isn’t actually supported by Valve, at all.

There are obvious similarities between Global Offensive Mobile and CS:GO, though, from weapon skins to classic maps like Inferno and Dust II. This also includes all the fan-favorite CS:GO weapons.

As for its official release date, no exact announcement has been confirmed for Global Offensive Mobile just yet. Regardless, it is expected to release sometime in 2021.

Dragon Quest Tact

With over 10 million downloads in Japan, DRAGON QUEST TACT finally comes to the West. The free-to-play mobile tactical RPG will be heading over to Android & iOS soon.

This strategy RPG will have players team up with some familiar monsters from the classic series. Players must befriend, collect, and train iconic DRAGON QUEST monsters to charge forth to epic battles.

In keeping true to its gacha nature, players can also train, customise, and expand their crew of choice as they continue along on their quest. Gradually, you can make them unique to you. At this point, it’s turning out to be a must-play for Dragon Quest and gacha fans.

In case you missed it, the DRAGON QUEST™ series helped define the RPG genre and set the standard for the early titles that followed.

Whether you are new to the series or you’ve been playing from the beginning, this new mobile title will surely give you a new unforgettable adventure!

When you purchase games on the Nintendo eShop, you earn store credit. I usually save up a lot of my credit and purchase a smaller title with it. One of these titles I purchased a few months ago is named Little Noah – Scion of Paradise. After playing it for a bit, I was surprised that it was the perfect game to play on my commute to and from work. I played it on a few train rides, and I think I’m ready to share my opinion on this game. This game is something unique and now that I have beaten it once, I really want to talk about it. Wait, beaten it once? What do I actually mean? Let’s talk about it in this article, while I invite you to leave a comment with your thoughts and/or opinions on this game and/or the content of this article in the comment section down below.

Zipping Kitty Attempts

In this game, we play as an alchemist called Little Noah. She is in a long journey to reunite with her father. While she is looking for her father, her airship gets caught in a storm, and she crashes near a mysterious ruin.

In that ruin, she meets an amnesiac cat named Zipper. Well, she names it Zipper. Together, they start to explore this ruin because they encountered a dark wizard named Greigh, who wants to enable a powerful machine which is dormant in the ruin.

Now, if you are looking for a deep story… I’m going to have to disappoint you. The story of this game isn’t the main focus of this game. The story in this game is fine for what it is and does its job, but there is nothing more to it. Personally, I don’t think it’s a negative for this game. Because the story takes a backseat, the gameplay loop is a lot more polished. Also, I don’t think it was the intention to have a very in depth story.

The voice actors in this game did an amazing job and brought the characters and the world of this game to live. The amount of personality they brought to their characters is really well done and really fits the atmosphere of this game like a glove. The amazing voice acting is one of the main reasons why I didn’t mind the “To be continued” at the end of the game at all. This small title really feels like the developers are testing the water if people who be interested in a larger game set in the world of Little Noah.

So, what do I mean by “small title”? Well, this game can be beaten in an afternoon. Now, the game has quite a lot of replay value in my opinion. The gameplay loop of this game is quite enjoyable. It has quite the potential to grow into something unique that I don’t often see in these rouge lite games. But, I’ll talk more about the gameplay later.

According to various sources online, this game has been worked on by a small team of 30 people. Even by some industry legends like Yukio Futatsugi, who had his hand on another title I played in the past called World’s End Club. The amount of love and care put into this title is quite impressive and gets a thumbs up from me. I know that this game is based upon an earlier mobile game from the same developers called Battle Champs. Yet, I think it’s great to see the developers repurpose the assets after the shutdown of that game and make something new about it.

If you have ever played a game like Rouge Legacy, you’ll feel right at home in this game. In this game, you have to explore a dungeon and fight bosses. During your exploration run, you gain various special items that give you all sorts of buffs.

In terms of difficulty, this game is very balanced. While you can get lucky and get amazing items and buffs to make it quite far in the game, with enough skill and understanding of the game… you can even outplay the game if you get bad items and not good buffs. Now, I’m reading mixed things about the hard difficulty online, but I have been playing through this game on normal difficulty and I found it pretty fair and balanced. So, let’s do one more dive to explain how this game works.

One More Dive

I want to talk about the unique mechanic in this game. The combat system in this game is something I wanted to play for a long while. In this game, you are accompanied by Lilliputs. These are special creatures who attack for you. You start each run with three basic Lilliputs. During your run, you can find other Lilliputs and make yourself stronger.

Each Lilliput is very different in terms of strength, element, attack, and unique attack. You can only have five Lilliputs for your main attacks, and you have two special attack slots where you can place one Lilliput in each. So, you really need to balance your Lilliputs well. The order is also quite important, you don’t want a whole row of slow attacking Lilliputs in an area with a lot of range attacking enemies. Also, you don’t want to use a weak element compared to the enemies you are facing. If you are focusing on wind, you will have trouble with fire enemies.

It’s extremely important to understand your Lilliputs. Since, once you started an attack, you are somewhat locked into that attack. You can’t start another attack while an attack is in progress, excluding the special attacks that is. So, if the enemy moves to the other side of your attack, though luck. This game is a whole balancing and time act, and it’s a lot of fun. The randomness in this whole game makes each run unique, and you can never predict how far you’ll be able to go.

Now, dying in this game isn’t the worst thing. All your items and Lilliputs get converted into mana, which you can use to repair your airship. The more you repair your airship, the more advantages and buffs you can unlock to make even better runs. You can also use special treasure chests you can pick up in your run to either increase the strength of your unlocked Lilliputs or give to Zipper for a special bonus for your next run.

So, how does a run go? Well, allow me to compare it to a crusade in Cult of the Lamb to a degree. In that game, you go into a dungeon, and you have to go from room to room, defeating every enemy in that room before you can progress to the next room. Unlike Cult of the Lamb, some rooms give you a special challenge. These challenges are reaching a certain amount of chained damage or hits, not being hit or defeating all the enemies in a limited amount of time. When you complete this challenge, you receive an additional bonus when you defeat the room.

There are also special rooms that can spawn. A shop where you can spend the gold you earn during a run, platform challenges with a strong treasure chest at the end, (combat) challenge rooms and rooms where you can get special buffs from a crystal and a room where you can get Lilliputs or a buff item. All of these special rooms have a special icon on the map. The map also shows little icons when there is still something you can pick up in the room.

Complete exploration of a dungeon is a very risk/reward thing. You do risk your health to go into an additional room to get additional buffs, or do you want to save your health for the next (mid)boss level? In order to beat this game, you have to beat three worlds. Each world works like this: level – level – midboss – level – boss. Be warned, you can only replenish your health potions at the start of a level. During (mid)boss fights, you can’t replenish your health potions, so keep that in mind when you are deciding if it’s worth the risk to go into that challenge platforming room.

Overall, the gameplay in the dungeon is quite addictive and the fast-paced decision-making you have to make is something that got me hooked. I don’t spend a lot of time on my airship, outside repairing it and setting up the right buffs for my next run. I always want to do one more dive and try and beat the game again. Now, the airship itself is build quite well. You can also re-read the tutorial boxes in case you want to refresh your memory on certain mechanics.

Repetition of Diving

Something that really impressed me is how smooth this game actually runs. The optimization of this game is incredible. I didn’t have any frame rate issues or slowdowns at all. Even when I’m preforming my ultimate attack, which causes a lot of visual flair and effects on the screen.

The controls are extremely responsive as well. Very rarely I felt like I wasn’t in control, and I think some of these moments might even have been a false positive where I was trying to blame my mistake on the game. In terms of the controls, there are only a few nitpicks I can give. The first is the decision to place “R” as the interaction button. This feels quite unnatural and took me some getting used to. Also, I think a left-handed mode would have been welcome since I think left-handed people who appreciate the “L” button then for interactions.

Why am I placing so much attention on this? Well, because you don’t pick up items or Lilliputs automatically. You have to stand next to them and interact with their medal or crystal. But items like health drops or burst gauges are picked up automatically.

The other nitpick I have is that when you start your dive, you get a fixed amount of mana from the first dungeon. Why can’t we skip this little cutscene that plays every time? It breaks the flow of the start of a run. Since you are stopped in your tracks every time.

Another nitpick I have with the controls is how the Lilliput attack order can be decided. The problem comes when I just want to swap two Lilliputs of their place. This is something you can’t do. Unless you swap them from your inventory to the main line OR from the main line to a special attack slot and vice versa. Swapping two Lilliputs in the main line is somewhat clunky to do and feels unpolished.

Visually, this game is extremely colorful and charming. While this is a side view game, like a 2D Mario game, the backgrounds are also incredible. The team that worked on the visual presentation of this game did an amazing job. I only have one nitpick about it and that’s somewhat shared with a nitpick I have with the audio design.

I feel like the frozen status isn’t communicated clearly enough to the player. Several times I was unable to move Noah and I couldn’t figure out why. It took me sometime to realize that she was frozen and that’s the reason why I couldn’t preform an action. Either a more exaggerated visual of a frozen Noah could solve this or more sound effects when you try to do something while frozen.

Apart from that, I don’t have any complaints about the visuals. The animation feels amazing, and you feel the impact of the attacks of your Lilliputs and it feels so rewarding, adding more immersion to the gameplay loop. This game is something where I felt: “One more dive” after each time I died and returned to the airship. Each time I wanted to go and explore the amazing caverns. While I was afraid that this game would suffer from long play sessions, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t the case for me. At the end of a long play session, I have to admit that the game felt a bit repetitive… But I don’t mind repetitive gameplay too much when the core gameplay loop and level design is fun.

The only negative I have about the level design is that you very quickly see all the possible room lay-outs there are in this game. While the dungeon is randomized each run, it doesn’t take long before you see similar rooms. A couple of times, I even had the same room back-to-back. This isn’t a huge problem perse, but I felt that the developers could mask this a bit better with different decorations or minor changes like one of the platforms having a possibility of crumbling or not.

The music and sound effects in this game are really catchy. I would love to add it to my playlist. Sadly, I can’t really find a way to listen to the soundtrack or even buy it. The tracks in this game are charming when they need to be but are also quite action-packed during fight scenes. The sound effects and visuals inform you quite well when an enemy is going to attack.

Now, I have said everything I wanted to say about this game for now. I think it’s high time for my conclusion of this game. Let’s dive into the summary and my final thoughts of this game.

Summary

The bad:

– Some minor nitpicks with the controls.
– Story is fine, but lacks some depth and is predictable.

The good:

+ Very addictive gameplay loop with high replay value.
+ Amazing voice acting.
+ Breath taking visuals.
+ Extremely optimized gameplay.
+ …

Final thoughts:

This game is a small indie title created from the remains of an old gotcha game. It’s only 15€ on the Nintendo eShop and it’s totally worth it’s price in gold. While the game lacks some depth and is quite short, the replay value this game has is something that’ll make you replay this game just one more time.

While playing this game, I felt that this game was an experiment. The developers were testing the waters if the gameplay would work or not. This game feels like a prequel to a much larger game and if I’m right, I can’t wait to see what the full game or the sequel is going to be like.

Even when this game is going to be a standalone game, I don’t really mind if that’s the case. This game is a game I can highly recommend if you enjoy games like Rouge Legacy or Cult of the Lamb. While it doesn’t have a lot of, if any, base building… It’s another amazing title in the genre.

While outside of the combat mechanics, it doesn’t do a lot of things you haven’t seen (a lot) before in other similar games. But, that isn’t a bad thing. Since, sometimes a game where all the good ideas from other games come together into one title can be a lot of fun as well.

I’d love to see another game in this universe where there are a bit more stakes in using your Lilliputs. What if certain Lilliputs get weaker when you pick up items of their opposite element? Or Lilliputs that can do a special attack with another Lilliput present…

There is so much more you can do with this combat system and I think that if the developers expanded on the core mechanics, this game sequel could reach quite far. Since, the game we already got placed an amazing foundation for an amazing series. I love this game to bits and I’m so glad I gave this game a chance, since it was an amazing pleasant surprise to playthrough. It comes highly recommend from me. After I finished the game once, I let me hunger for more. I wanted to play it even more. And the fact that I barely have any complaints about this game apart from a weak story and some nitpicks… This game just has a lot of care and lot put in by the developers and everything works and fits together so well.

With that said, I have said everything I wanted to say about this game for now. I want to thank you for reading this article and I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope to be able to welcome you in another article, but until then, have a great rest of your day and take care.

I know that I’m extremely late when it comes to the Palworld hype. Palworld released in early January 2024 and currently, since there aren’t a lot of updates dropping, the hype died out. Yet, the roadmap looks extremely promising. Since this game is still in early access, I’m always hesitant in writing about the game. Since, you never know which mechanics or things will change and evolve during the early access period. Especially since we are currently only at v0.1.5.1. So, I decided to hold off on my first impression/review article for now. But, I wanted to talk about this game. So, here are some things I’d love to see in the full version of Palworld or even in one of the next updates.

First of all, what is a Palworld?

Palworld is a combination of several games, all thrown into one. It’s easy to describe Palworld with saying which games it combines.

Foremost, at its core, it’s a game you can somewhat compare to Ark Survival Evolved. When I first started playing, I noticed the similarities right away. The way how you have a crafting system to build your base, and you have monsters running around you can tame/catch is totally here as well.

I haven’t played a lot of Ark, so I can’t say if this mechanic is also present in Ark… But, the fact you can use your monsters to preform tasks in your base reminded me quite a lot of The Survivalists. A game where you are stranded on an island, and you can train monkeys to preform actions for you. The big difference is that now certain monsters can only preform certain tasks, instead of the monkeys just copying you.

Now, a lot of other articles describe this game as Pokémon with guns. After playing this game, I think that’s a somewhat unfair comparison. When I think Pokémon, I think a journey with gyms and an evil team. I think turn based battles and a big ending tournament as its conclusion. While some Pals share a very similar design language to some Pokémon, most of the mechanics of what makes a Pokémon game aren’t in this game. The other big mechanic is the capture mechanic, but by now this isn’t exclusive to Pokémon games anymore. Especially since we have games like Coromon.

There are also influences of the latest Zelda games. Especially Tears of the Kingdom. There are these huge, strong bosses roaming around on the huge open world map, you can beat at any time. Also, the korok seeds to upgrade your character are also here in the form of effigies and Pal souls to upgrade your monsters.

This game really feels like the developers looked at all the games they liked playing, looked at what worked and threw it all together into one pot and shook it until it all clicked together. The mechanics of this game really click extremely well together. If I didn’t know any better, I wouldn’t be surprised if I said that this was a finished game.

There are some silly bugs here and there and in some spots, this game feels unfinished. But, overall the game we have currently is amazing and if you would enjoy a game like this after reading what I wrote here… Give this game a try. I only told you the most basic things in this game. This game is a survival game with elements from a lot of other games like those I have already mentioned but also Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders and various others.

Let’s talk improvements

While the game is a lot of fun to play at the moment, there are some things I wish that were improved or updated. While you get a lot of warnings that there are: save corruption bugs, crashes and bugs… Besides sometimes the lighting engine giving up for a moment or the AI of the pals or enemies doing some funky stuff, I haven’t seen too many worrying things.

Take for example this floating rock screenshot here. I have explored roughly half of the map after 35 hours of play, and this was the only floating rock I could find. That’s extremely impressive, especially since if you look at the size of the map… It isn’t small at all. In the future, new islands and area’s will be added so if they deliver them with this kind of quality, I have no complaints.

Well, I do have one recommendation. I’d love to see more landmarks in the map. Currently, almost all the landmarks in the game are based upon the terrain. I’d love to see more villages or ruins of them. I loved finding these things in the Zelda games and letting my mind wonder what happened there. It’s a very difficult balance act, since too many landmarks would make the map feel crowded and limit the amount of possible base locations.

Basically, I’d love more reasons for me to go exploring these regions and get unique rewards. Besides completing the Paldex, there isn’t a lot of reason to go exploring in certain area’s. And when you have set up the right kind of farms and work stations for your pals in your bases, the chance you run out of resources is rather small.

Speaking about bases, currently you can only have three bases. Most likely, this is done to improve the multiplayer performance. Since, the game emulates the three bases in the background, so you can easily have a base close to big ore clusters to farm those while you are working in your other base. If you don’t place a cap on those, it’ll tank the performance of any computer or server. Yet, I’d give the tools to the player to increase the cap. Personally, I think Minecraft has one of the best systems with the game rules. You can almost change anything to your playstyle and even disable or remove caps that are there for performance reasons. You already have quite a lot of toggles and sliders in Palworld, but I’d also expand on that.

Currently, the building system is decent, but it needs a lot of polishing up. The biggest problem I have with the building system are the stairs. It’s a nightmare sometimes to place stairs to go from one to another floor. Also, why can’t we place a full wall next to stairs? Most likely because some pals their hitbox would do some crazy stuff? Also, placing certain items or crafting stations on elevated floors doesn’t always work the best.

On top of that, besides the visual look of the floors, walls and ceilings, what’s the point of being able to unlock stone foundations? As a test, I tried to build a high tower with wood and one with stone. I didn’t find a difference. I’d love to see more meaning to what I unlock. Granted, stone can’t burn down. So, if you have any raids with flamethrower or fire enemies, your base isn’t in danger. But what’s the difference between stone and metal, then?

I honestly think that it’d be a bad idea if PocketPair only created more content and not make the mechanics have more depth. For example, something I’d love to see them implementing in the pal task system is a mechanic I love in Cult of the Lamb. When you welcome a new member in your cult, you can set the main focus of a member there. I’d love to see that you are able to set the main focus per pal. For example, when things are damaged in the base after a raid, you select one pal to go and get the repair kits and repair all damages first before going to do their usual tasks. Or when you have a pal that can do multiple things, and you mostly need that pal to pick up items, you could disable their other abilities. Maybe we need some items for that and those items can be only found in the wild, and we need to hunt for them. That’s an interesting idea to lure players out of their bases.

Dreaming like a madman

There are some UI elements I’d love to see change as well. First, I’d love to have a mini-map. The compass at the top of the screen only shows things in roughly 300m range, and that’s too short. Especially since in some areas the warp spots are spread quite far apart. A mini-map where you can pin certain things like the nearest warp spot would be amazing.

Secondly, in terms of the weapons. I’d love to see their stats before I craft them. Now it’s a guessing game that if I craft a certain weapon, if it’s going to be stronger or better than the one I currently have. It’d also be amazing if the durability is shown outside the inventory as well. There is some space in the UI element at the bottom right, so why not show it?

Now, in terms of the inventory. Sometimes I have issues with combining stacks of items. Sometimes I have to do it twice or thrice before they are combined. This is a rather small things, but outside of those… I don’t have a lot of small quality of life things that I could recommend. Maybe that if you sleep during the day in your bed, you can skip to night if you are hunting the nightlife pals?

Maybe there is one quality of life feature I think would be amazing. Quite often, when I’m hunting the stronger pals, I have my pal instructions set on “Focus on the same enemy”. I think it would have an amazing option if you have a feature where you are able to say to your pal if they are allowed to kill the wild pal or not. Since, if they are dead, you can’t capture them.

There is one attack that is a double-edged sword. In the Pokémon games, you have the self-destruct attack. You also have this one in Palworld, yet, some wild pals with this attack always take it over their other attacks. These bee pals always swarm me and instead of being able to weaken them, so I can catch them, I just get blown up. You barely have a chance to do any damage to weaken them to make capturing possible.

I just remembered one other quality of life feature. You can create saddles, gloves and other things to do special things with your pals. But, why I am allowed to create more than one? I mean, I can only use one of them at a time and they can be interchanged. So, if you make a saddle for a certain bird pal e.g. Helzephyr, that means you can use it on all Helzephyrs you catch.

But the biggest quality of life feature PocketPair could add is a mini-map inside caves/dungeons. The times I almost got lost in these caves is insane. Especially since there are only a handful of rooms in these and it’s easy to get turned around and confused.

Now, to completely change the subject… I wish there was more music in the game. The soundtrack in this game is amazing. Sadly, there isn’t enough in the game at the moment, so there are some silent moments. A little bit more ambient tracks would go a really long way in this game.

But, I saved one of my biggest things for last. That is inventory management. This is a total pain in bases. Since pals can put things inside chests, you can forget organisation. Thankfully, while crafting, the game pulls from all resources in your base, but if you need a certain item to use at another base, have fun to go searching through all your chests. What I usually do, if I can, is start crafting an item with the one I want to move and then cancel it. Since it drops the resources then and there. Now, how to solve this without breaking the game and the idea that pals can put things in chests? What if you have a new skill that pals can have? An organisation skill and depending on the level, they either put red things with red things or make a weapons chest and come to complain to you when there aren’t enough chests for their organisation?

If your base is fully set up, the proper of a lack of depth starts to show as well. When you build your base, why should you return to it besides needing to craft or repair your weapons? Give us some activities we can do in our base when we build them. I mean come on, we even have the amusement furniture set. If only we could play some mini-games with our pals to increase their sanity for example? Since currently, there is not a lot you can do when a pal is stressed.

Of course, a certain balance needs to be maintained. The more things a pal can interact with, the more chance you have to create lag or overwhelm the player. Also, the more depth you create, the more things you have to maintain and maybe that’s not the type of game that PocketPair wants to create. How I currently see Palworld is a playground sandbox in the schoolyard. It’s an amazing playground where you can make your own fun but it’s only part of the schoolyard and only has a swing, some monkey bars, a climb rack, a small castle and a slide. It’s all solid built and amazing to spend your time in… But, then you notice the potential this sandbox has to grow. What if we enlarged that sandbox with another castle, so the multiplayer can be player vs player as well? Or wait, why don’t we add an underground to that sandbox?

All I’m saying is that currently Palworld has an amazing foundation. The biggest issue at the moment is that the game lacks depth. While the current roadmap has a lot of expansions and more content, I hope PocketPair doesn’t forget to also make it more than just surface level. For example, imagne that the raid bosses can be captured and barely have an unique skills. Why should the player do the raids then? What reward do you get out of it? Not all mechanics can be fun because they are enjoyable to do. Players will get bored and they will look for a way to spice things up or to challenge themselves.

Now what that said, I’m going to close off this article. I’m quite excited for the future of Palworld and I’m going to wait a few more updates before I decide to write a review on the game. But overall, I’m really liking what I see. The basis of an amazing title is here already and I think we are going to get an even better game when this comes out of early access. Let’s wait and see what happens when the first big updates drop. Especially the raid bosses that got teased a few weeks ago.

Thank you so much for reading this article and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. What do you think of PalWorld and what should be added or changed? Let me know in the comment section down below. Also, what do you think of my idea’s? I’m curious, feel free to leave a comment about that one to. But, I also hope to welcome you in another article but until then, have a great rest of your day and take care.

In this mode, champions are reimagined as cute, super-powered warriors standing together against the civilization-ending invasion of the abyssal Primordians.

Veteran players may recall battling hilariously overpowered bots in Doom Bots or defending the world as Star Guardians in Invasion. These PvE modes provided a welcome break from the sweaty PvP scene. Swarm is set to be no different, plunging players into the last bastion of humanity, Final City, in a collaborative experience where everyone’s excited to achieve something together!

What is LoL's New PvE Game Mode, Swarm?

Swarm | Operation: Anima Squad is a deeply replayable, co-op bullet heaven PvE game mode that throws you and your friends into the vibrant world of Anima Squad.

Similar to other bullet heaven games, players control a champion with an auto-firing weapon, maneuvering around the battlefield to take down hordes of enemies. As players progress through the levels and inevitably die (it's part of the genre!), you will discover new augments and weapons that become available in future runs.

The core gameplay loop revolves around running around killing monsters, finding items scattered across the map, building your strength, unlocking permanent upgrades, and strategically spending your currency on power-ups.

With different difficulty levels, replayable maps, and a variety of champion combinations and achievements to unlock, there's always something new to chase. You'll even earn rewards like emotes and titles that you can use across different game modes.

Swarm’s early game eases you in, focusing on eliminating weaker enemies and collecting experience orbs. Once you've gathered enough orbs, you'll be presented with options to level up and significantly boost your power. As you progress and level up more, the fantasy is to experience an ever-growing swarm of projectiles you can unleash.

The first act is narrative-driven, introducing you to bosses, potential allies you can convince to join your cause, and the world's lore through descriptions and simple achievements. Once you complete all four maps, the second phase unlocks: matchmaking.

There will be an Anima Squad hub in the main client, where players can play in a premade party of up to four players. Before entering the queue, players will select their champion and preference of map from those unlocked. Completing all maps in story mode unlocks further levels of difficulty and deeper content!

Playable Champions in Swarm

Swarm features a roster of playable champions, each with a unique kit. These champions wield a powerful auto-attack and two active abilities: a frequently usable attack and a devastating ultimate for clutch moments.

Playable champions include:

  • Jinx
  • Seraphine
  • Leona
  • Xayah
  • Illaoi
  • Yasuo
  • Briar
  • Yuumi

Your champions will clash against the fearsome Primordians, twisted creatures driven to eradicate humanity:

  • Aatrox
  • Bel’Veth
  • Rek’Sai

Spires in Swarm Explained

Spires are unique gameplay elements that set Swarm apart from other bullet heavens. These towers, projecting holograms of certain champions, spawn randomly across the map, and players will have to move toward them to activate them.

There are three types of Spires, each requiring different activation methods and offering distinct rewards:

  • Miss Fortune Spire: Simply approach and activate this Spire for a temporary reward, like an invincible car that you can use to crush your opponents and drive through them. It may also grant buffs such as a short-term attack speed boost.
  • Yuumi Spires: These require teamwork! The entire team must be present to activate a Yuumi Spire, triggering quests like kicking a football into a goal or destroying scattered vases.
  • Bel’Veth Spire: Risky but rewarding, these Spires require only one player to activate. However, unleashing Bel’Veth’s power can be dangerous. You may unleash a reign of meteors, an army of enemies, or even spawn a mini-boss! Success grants a hefty XP and gold for upgrades outside of the game.

New LoL Champion Aurora Release Date Revealed

New LoL Champion Aurora Release Date Revealed - Main Image

Upon weeks of teasers and appearances in the Spirit of the Hearth-Home minigame, the release date for League of Legends' newest champion, Aurora, is finally here!

Aurora is a rabbit-like Vastaya who can traverse the boundaries between the spirit realm and the material world. Unlike other Vastaya like Ahri and Sett, Aurora embodies the characteristics of a prey animal. However, beneath her seemingly meek exterior lies a force to be reckoned with. Aurora wields powerful spirit magic, flitting across the battlefield and unleashing devastating attacks on her enemies!

When Will the New LoL Champion Aurora be Released?

Aurora's development has been a labor of love and passion for over six years at Riot. Initially just a champion idea, it branched into concepts like Sylas, Yone, the Spirit Blossom event, and even Fiddlesticks' VGU. After this incredible journey, Aurora herself finally arrives on the Rift!

Aurora joins the champion roster on July 17, 2024, alongside the exciting new summer game mode, Anima Squad.

If you’re eager to explore Aurora’s kit and experiment with builds before her official release, be sure to catch her on PBE servers starting on June 25, 2024, with the release of Patch 14.13!

Who is Aurora?

Hailing from the vastayan Bryni tribe in the Freljordian village of Aamu, Aurora was born with the unique ability to see the veil between the spirit and material realms. Aurora had always been an outcast among her people, who have distanced themselves from the mystical arts and are primarily farmers known for their uncanny agricultural prowess, a subtle expression of their magic.

Aurora, however, can see spirits and interact with them, a power long dormant within her tribe. Struggling to connect with her peers, Aurora found solace in the company of nearby spirits. She eventually embarked on a journey across the Freljord to learn more about the spirit realm, even befriending a forgotten demigod on the way!

Aurora is coded as autistic, and her design and gameplay reflect the unique strengths associated with neurodiversity. As Senior Narrative Writer Elyse "apothecarie" Lemoine explains, people on the spectrum often process information and view the world differently. This is incorporated into Aurora's character. She's not the meek prey animal one might expect; she's fearless, and aggressive, and approaches challenges with an unconventional brilliance, defying expectations.

The League of Legends community is gearing up for the PBE release of the newest champion, Aurora, eager to hop onto the Rift and channel the untapped power of the spirit realm.

Aurora is a solo laner that’s designed to be a skirmisher mage. Through Aurora, the LoL dev team wanted to deliver an approachable solo lane champion and bring diversity to LoL's champion roster through the representation of autism. The care and passion poured into her design and kit over the past six years is evident!

Is Aurora on LoL PBE?

After a six-year journey, Aurora takes center stage, bringing her unique spell kit and the magic of the spirit realm to the Rift. The "Witch Between Worlds," Aurora, hits PBE servers on June 25, 2024. Get a first look at her abilities and prepare to outmaneuver your opponents!

Due to the extended three-week Patch 14.13, Aurora's official release is scheduled for July 17, 2024, alongside the exciting new summer game mode, Anima Squad.

How to Install the LoL PBE client?

A great way to stay ahead of the curve and potentially ahead of the emerging meta is to utilize the League of Legends PBE—a server separate from the live servers, giving players a chance to test and experience new patches before their official launch.

Firstly, in order to qualify for the PBE, your account must meet specific requirements:

  • No history of bans or chat restrictions
  • Honor Level Three or higher

To sign up for a PBE account, follow these steps:

  • Visit the PBE signup page and log in to your Riot Games account
  • Make sure that “PBE” is selected as your preferred client
  • If your account is eligible, proceed with the PBE account-making process

A new client must be installed as the PBE server operates independently from the League of Legends live game.

When the installer has finished downloading, click Install and the client should appear on your desktop.

Click on the new software and log into your Riot account.

Before you dive in, be sure to switch to the "PBE server" using the arrow next to the "play" button.

The newest League of Legends champion, Aurora, is a rabbit-like Vastaya who wields spirit magic and an arsenal of spells that allow her to flit around the battlefield while dealing hefty damage. Though her design and abilities play into her prey-animal theme, she’s not to be taken lightly! Aurora packs a punch and can easily turn the tables on unsuspecting enemies.

For over six years, Aurora's development has been a labor of love at Riot. Initially starting as a champion idea, it splintered into concepts like Sylas, Yone, the Spirit Blossom event, and Fiddlesticks' VGU. Finally, after this long journey, Aurora herself takes center stage, bringing the spirit realm and her unique kit to the Rift.

LoL Aurora Abilities Rundown

Born into the vastayan Bryni tribe in the Freljordian village of Aamu, Aurora has the unique ability to see and traverse beyond the boundary between the spirit and material realms. Struggling to connect with her peers, Aurora found solace in the company of nearby spirits and eventually embarked on a journey across the Freljord to learn more about the spirit realm.

Unconventional and lacking formal training, Aurora spent years reverse-engineering her magic through trial and error, crafting a unique spellbook that utilizes the spirit realm for powerful spell casting.

As a solo laner and skirmisher mage, Aurora can thrive in both mid and top lanes. While she boasts a high-skill ceiling, opening the doors to blood-pumping outplays, she has a low-skill floor. Her simple spellcasting kit is extremely accessible, making her easy to pick up for new players.

Passive - Spirit Abjuration

If Aurora damages an enemy 3 times with her spells and attacks, she will deal magic damage and exorcise a spirit to her, entering Spirit Mode, gaining movement speed, and empowering her healing for 3 seconds.

For every additional spirit following Aurora, the bonuses from Spirit Mode are increased by 5%

Q - Twofold Hex

Aurora fires a blast of cursed energy in a line, dealing magic damage to enemies hit and marking them with spirit energy.

Recast: End the curse, drawing back the spirit energy to herself, dealing magic damage to enemies passed through.

If enemies are hit by multiple Q missiles on recast, they will take more damage. The goal is to tag opponents with your initial Q and then reposition yourself to maximize the number of enemies hit by the pullback!

W - Across the Veil

Offering a powerful escape and outplay tool, Aurora hops in a direction and enters the spirit realm, becoming invisible and entering Spirit Mode for several seconds.

Takedowns on enemy champions reset the cooldown of this ability

E - The Weirding

This is a straightforward line-nuke skill shot where Aurora sends out a blast of spirit magic, dealing magic damage in an area that slows enemies. Aurora will hop backward slightly on cast.

R - Between Worlds

Aurora hops forward and sends out a powerful pulse of spirit energy that deals magic damage and slows enemies, creating a transition into the spirit realm that traps enemies. In this circle, Aurora enters an empowered spirit mode that allows her to travel from one end of the area to the other.

Enemies who try to cross the threshold will take magic damage, be slowed, and be pushed back toward the center of the area.

As Riot Games’ first prey animal vastaya, Aurora presented a unique design challenge for the team: capturing the essence of a creature that thrives on agility and outsmarts their predators. “I thought a lot about how a prey animal succeeds against a predator," says game design manager Blake “Squad5” Smith, “they don’t usually overpower them; their success is usually found in trickery and eventual escape."

True to her theme, Aurora’s a highly mobile champion who excels at outmaneuvering opponents using her rabbit-like agility. Her primary tool for outplay is her W “Across the Veil," which makes her invisible and allows for quick, creative positioning in fights to set up her other abilities, like her Q2. Her ultimate leverages this mobility even more, granting her even greater control over "E" placements and "Q2" pullbacks within a zone perfect for outplays.

Aurora's development team also drew inspiration from real-world experiences. She is coded as autistic, and her gameplay and design reflect the unique strengths of neurodiversity.

Senior narrative writer Elyse “apothecarie” Lemoine explains that people on the spectrum often process information and view the world differently, and the team wanted Aurora to embody that in her kit. In that spirit, Aurora isn't the meek or submissive prey animal one might expect. She's fearless and aggressive and approaches challenges in unexpected ways, defying expectations.

Get ready to hop onto the Rift and channel the untapped power of the spirit realm with Aurora, the Witch Between Worlds, arriving on PBE on 25 June, 2024, alongside Patch 14.13!

LoL Season 14's whirlwind of balance changes continues with Patch 14.13. This update dives into core gameplay systems, revamping runes like Electrocute and Dark Harvest, and fine-tuning champion balance across roles.

The focus is on nerfing champions that use Fated Ashes items, while also sharpening the distinction between Electrocute's early burst and Dark Harvest's stacking power. AD carries will also continue to see adjustments to create a more balanced bot lane!

LoL Patch 14.13 Release Date

According to Riot’s official patch schedule, LoL Patch 14.13 is expected to hit live servers on June 26, 2024. It will first arrive on Oceanic servers at 10 AM AEST and gradually roll out to other regions throughout the day.

Here's a quick breakdown of the release times for different regions:

  • NA: 3 PM PST
  • EUW: 5 AM GMT
  • EUNE: 3 AM CET

LoL 14.13 Early Patch Notes

Riot Phroxzon has revealed the early patch notes for Patch 14.13, which focuses on rune adjustments and champion balance changes.

Two popular Domination keystones, Electrocute and Dark Harvest, are getting reworked. Electrocute is set to become the go-to option for early burst damage champions, helping them snowball their lead, while Dark Harvest may receive a cooldown reduction to better support its "stacking fantasy" playstyle.

The Fated Ashes items themselves are deemed balanced by the dev team, but some champions like Brand and Karthus are overperforming with them. These champions will be nerfed in Patch 14.13.

Kalista and Varus have been dominating professional play. Patch 14.3 aims to make them less dominant while preserving their core build options. On-hit Varus might get buffed to compete better with the currently stronger lethality build.

Here’s a preview of which champions, runes, and items are set to receive changes in the upcoming LoL Patch 14.13 update:

In 2024, Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends are once again commemorating Pride Month. Let's take a glimpse at the various pride cosmetics that are up for grabs and learn how to obtain them.

The annual Pride event is set to make a comeback on Summoner's Rift and the Convergence, accompanied by fresh cosmetics such as emotes, booms, and summoner icons. There is an abundance of items to collect while rejoicing in this year's celebration.

LoL 2024 Pride Cosmetics and How to Get Them

LoL will be reintroducing old emotes from previous years and debuting a new emote showcasing Neeko and Twisted Fate. To obtain the new emote, players simply need to participate in games as a premade group.

This event will commence on Patch 14.11, and participants will have until 26 June 2024, or the end of Patch 14.12, to fulfill the requirements of this quest.

In the same vein, you have the opportunity to acquire any of the previous Pride emotes from the store by spending just one Blue Essence, making them a convenient choice.

Additionally, the Pride Summoner Icons will be available for purchase, each offering a unique homeguard animation based on the one you currently have equipped. These icons can be bought individually or as a bundle for the price of one Blue Essence.

TFT 2024 Pride Cosmetics and How to Get Them

Similar to its MOBA counterpart, Teamfight Tactics is also commemorating Pride Month this year. Nevertheless, unlike League, TFT's Pride event will be limited to just one patch, as the developers have a fresh event scheduled for Patch 14.12.

Consequently, you will have until 11 June 2024 to acquire any necessary items or rewards.

Teamfight Tactics (TFT) introduces three fresh missions that will unlock past Pride content and introduce a new adorable emote to the collection. By equipping the latest High Five emote and utilizing it during a match, players can earn 25 Star Shards along with Pride booms from previous seasons.

Additionally, using a Pride boom in a match will also reward players with 25 Star Shards and the Dip K’sante Emote.

Pride Trails will also be reintroduced this year, but they will now be linked to the boom you currently have equipped. This adjustment aims to cater to mobile players, who previously did not have the option to select a summoner icon.

All Changes Coming to Arena in LoL Patch 14.10 - Main Image

The fan-favorite game mode, Arena, has just returned to LoL, and is already set for some massive changes in the upcoming Patch 14.10!

After being available for a full patch cycle, Riot has identified the major issues and is prepared to make necessary adjustments. Lead Gameplay Designer has shed light on the major challenges that Riot will address in LoL Patch 14.10 on Arena.

All Arena Changes in LoL Patch 14.10

RNG Experience Changes — Prismatic Anvils

The inclusion of Prismatic Anvils in this iteration of the Arena was intended to introduce an element of unpredictability into the game mode, guaranteeing a unique and fresh experience with every match. However, their introduction seems to have resulted in an excessive level of randomness.

Riot will be making adjustments to the Anvils in the next patch to make sure that players have a better chance of success. Phroxzon stated that the goal of the balance team is for the ideal prismatic to be challenging to achieve, without pushing players towards AP Darius if they fail.

Jhin Adjustments

Riot is planning to implement certain modifications to Jhin, who has garnered significant attention as one of the most discussed champions following the introduction of Arena in LoL Patch 14.9. The upcoming LoL Arena patch will see adjustments in terms of his missile speed and spawn location.

Riot will be decreasing his missile speed by 25% and adjusting spawn location to ensure a more equitable playing field for the opposing teams.

Time Before Revive

The player revival time has been modified in the upcoming patch, extending from 11-8 seconds to 12-8 seconds. Current statistics indicate that reviving a teammate is too effortless, prompting Riot to implement these adjustments.

Arena God Games Required

Arena also offers a variety of distinctive Challenges that allow you to customize your League of Legends profile and banner with a title. However, it appears that the Arena God challenge was excessively difficult to achieve, prompting Riot to adjust the requirements to make it a more attainable goal.

Players who achieve 60 first-place finishes will have the opportunity to acquire the title and showcase it on their profile. Phroxzon disclosed that up to this point, only 160 players have managed to secure over 20 first-place finishes. In order to make the Challenge more attainable for players, they have decided to reduce the number of required first-place finishes from 168 to 60.

Ranked Reset For LoL Patch 14.10

The second ranked split for Season 14 is set to begin with the release of LoL Patch 14.10. Alongside this, the ranked Arena split will also begin. Higher Elo players can expect a soft reset from their previous rank in other Arena modes, aiming to improve matchmaking for newcomers.

In addition, various adjustments will be made to the balance of specific champions, augments, and items. Furthermore, Riot will provide teams with hats during the later stages of the game, as teams are allocating their resources towards juices and anvils rather than hats.

Riot will be closely monitoring the Koi Pond map and making slight adjustments by adding new blast cone placements. However, they have no plans to remove the map from the pool at the moment. The team still intends to gather data on it.

This LoL Midseason update is also set to bring sweeping changes to core gameplay systems. If you're interested in learning more, here's a comprehensive rundown of all the upcoming new, reworked, and removed items and runes!

Are you itching for a new look for your main but holding out for the perfect deal? Your patience is about to pay off as the LoL Your Shop event has made its triumphant return, offering players the opportunity to snag coveted skins at discounted prices!

Although luck plays a role, don’t worry about ending up with a skin that's completely unrelated to your champion pool. The event takes into account your most frequently played champions, making sure that you have a chance to show off your skills with flair – all without breaking the bank!

LoL Your Shop is Now Open

LoL's Your Shop is a beloved periodic sale featuring champion skins at reduced prices, and it has just received its second run in 2024, on May 9. Offers are set to expire on June 5, 2024.

In this event, each player is offered six discounted skins (ranging from 20 to 70 percent), tailored specifically to them. Your Shop uses your in-game history over the past 6 months to curate these deals, prioritizing champions you play most. So there’s a high chance that you’ll be able to obtain a skin you’ve been eyeing at a discounted price!

How to Access Your Shop in LoL?

Look for the Your Shop tab in the LoL client. It's located at the top menu, with an icon shaped like cards, next to your Blue Essence and Riot Points. Click on it to reveal six cards, each hiding a discounted skin. Simply click on a card to reveal the offer underneath!

The listed price includes both the skin and the champion (if not already owned). Should the champion be part of the offer, its icon will be displayed on top of the skin. You can purchase the champion separately, which will then reduce the overall price.

What Skins Won’t Be Included In Your Shop?

While Your Shop offers fantastic deals, there are a few exceptions. Here's what you won't find:

  • Legendary Skins (Note: An in-game event may offer the chance to acquire a Legendary Skin in Your Shop, but this isn't typical. No Legendary Skins will be featured this time around.)
  • Ultimate Skins
  • Champions or skins released within 90 days of Your Shop's start time.
  • Limited Skins
  • Loot Exclusive Skins
  • Currently discounted skins
  • Skins not purchasable with RP (bundle exclusives, Victorious skins, Prestige skins, etc.)

When is the Next Your Shop?

In a recent announcement by Live Pod Design Lead David "Phreak" Turley, the upcoming LoL Patch 14.10 update will bring a much-needed rework to the beloved old-timer, Corki!

The Daring Bombardier has experienced fluctuations in his presence within the LoL meta, bouncing between the mid and bot lanes. Riot Games intends to revamp his kit to reposition him primarily in the bot lane, introducing significant changes to his abilities.

All Corki Changes in LoL Patch 14.10

Corki's mid-scope update promises to transform him into a short-range aggressive champion who relies heavily on cooperation and teamwork to excel. Emphasizing basic attacks over abilities will result in players being rewarded more readily, especially in the early phases of a game.

For instance, by continuously auto-attacking enemies, Corki's missiles can be replenished, creating an incentive for shorter duels. Riot also aims to encourage players to equip Corki with regular auto-attack AD items, as his kit now favors this playstyle more than his previous AP-heavy approach.

The existing plans may undergo alterations prior to the launch of Patch 14.10 on May 15. Here are the initial adjustments made to Corki's kit, with updates to follow as more information is provided by the developers.

Passive – Hextech Munitions

  • The Package is being removed from his kit
  • Will deal 15 percent bonus true damage, including Sheen

Q – Phosphorus Bomb

  • 10 percent missile speed increase
  • AD ratio buffed for ranks four and five
  • Cooldown is changed
  • Mana cost buffed

W – Valkyrie

  • Damage profile being rescripted and buffed
  • Particle VFX updates

E – Gatling Gun

  • E cooldown decreased from 16 seconds to 12 seconds
  • Shred cap and rate have been buffed
  • Damage converted from half physical and half magic to purely physical damage
  • Damage and AD ratio nerfed

R – Missile Barrage

  • When R is ranked up, you get free ammo
  • You’ll get ammo refunds off of auto-attacks on enemy champions
  • Ammo rate and max stacks are being nerfed
  • Mana cost nerfed
  • R will now deal physical damage; the total AD ratio is being changed to the bonus AD ratio
  • Bonus AD no longer scales on your rank

That was everything you need to know about the Patch 14.10 Corki rework! This Midseason update is also set to bring sweeping changes to LoL's core gameplay systems. If you're interested in learning more, here's a comprehensive rundown of all the upcoming new, reworked, and removed items and runes!

Arena has made its grand return in League of Legends, and looking at current trends, here are the top 5 best champions to play in Patch 14.9! This game mode features four pairs of players competing against each other on a variety of new maps.

In this iteration, both new and returning players will enjoy Arena with fresh champion items, hexgates, revival mechanics, and augments, ensuring that the 2v2v2v2 game mode feels more exciting than ever before.

Top 5 Best Champions for Arena in LoL 14.9

Shaco

Shaco mains have found great success with the AP assassin in Arena's tighter maps. The Demon Jester's kit allows for impactful trades and the ability to eliminate vulnerable foes. His Q serves as a strong engagement tool, while his ultimate offers peel and disruption in crucial team fights.

With Augments like Contract Killer enhancing his abilities, Shaco excels at isolating opponents and remains a top pick in Arena. Recent buffs to his AD ratio, Q damage, and cooldown reductions further solidify his position as a formidable champion.

Aatrox

Aatrox instills fear in the hearts of his enemies, serving as a self-sufficient, crowd-controlling tank who ranks among the top bruisers in the game.

Possessing sufficient mobility to pursue weakened foes and offering essential crowd control, the Darkin Blade stands out as an excellent choice for those seeking a secure (albeit requiring high skill) pick in the Arena.

Currently, Aatrox remains a prominent figure on our list due to the recent percentage healing enhancements on his ultimate and E skill, rendering the Darkin Blade an exceptionally powerful selection for Arena battles.

Mordekaiser

Mordekaiser's adaptability in building and high AP in the late game make him an exceptional choice for the Arena. Additionally, his tankiness as the Iron Revenant and his ultimate ability "Realm of Death" allow him to effectively isolate a weakened opponent in a 2v2 situation.

Furthermore, his E ability can be used to protect your vulnerable teammate while you become an even greater threat. In terms of scaling, Mordekaiser would have been the most difficult champion to defeat if it weren't for the strongest Arena champion on this list.

The Augments "Willing Sacrifice" and "I'm the Juggernaut" are particularly excellent choices for enhancing Mordekaiser's performance in the late game.

Sett

Sett holds a prominent position on our ranking due to his exceptional bruiser abilities. As a self-reliant top-laner, he possesses ample shielding to endure the early stages of the game, rendering him a formidable opponent even in his most vulnerable state.

Nevertheless, teams equipped with significant true damage capabilities can swiftly neutralize Sett when his speed enhancement is unavailable. To optimize Sett's performance, it is recommended to select the Augments "Dawnbringer's Resolve," "Celestial Body," and "Perseverance."

Akali

Akali's significant enhancements to her HP growth per level and total damage on Q make her an excellent choice for executing intelligent strategies in the Arena minimaps.

Her skill set encompasses all the necessary tools to transform into a formidable assassin, including a smoke ability that renders her untargetable, exceptional mobility, and a long-distance dash that swiftly eliminates adversaries before they can even react.

Whenever the opportunity arises, equip yourself with "The Brutalizer" and "Contract Killer" augments to fully unleash Akali's deadly persona in the Arena.

Arena provides a refreshing change for veteran League of Legends players who have primarily been engaged in the traditional 5v5 format. The cherished Riot MOBA has experienced a lack of diversity in its game offerings, with the prominent ones being Teamfight Tactics and the Ultra Rapid Fire (URF), a game mode that was initially introduced in 2014.

The LoL mid-season update, Patch 14.10, is poised to be a game-changer. Sweeping system changes are on the horizon, including comprehensive item and rune reworks. Brand new additions will be introduced alongside the removal of some older ones, promising a complete shakeup to the meta.

As always, Riot Games aims to maintain balance by reining in overpowered champions while making underperformers viable for ranked and pro play, all while keeping gameplay fresh and exciting. Patch 14.10 tackles all these goals head-on. With that said, let's dive right into what awaits us in the upcoming LoL Patch 14.10 update!

LoL Patch 14.10 Expected Release Date

According to Riot’s official patch schedule, LoL Patch 14.10 is expected to hit live servers on May 15, 2024. It will first arrive on Oceanic servers at 10 AM AEST and gradually roll out to other regions throughout the day.

Here's a quick breakdown of the release times for different regions:

  • 3 AM PT (NA)
  • 5 AM BST (EUW)
  • 3 AM CEST (EUNE)
  • 8 AM KST (Korea)

LoL Patch 14.10 Highlights

ADC Item System Rework

Design Lead Phreak acknowledged that ADCs felt their items were weaker compared to other classes since Season 14 began. This, combined with the weak state of the ADC role overall, has led to a complete overhaul of the entire ADC item system in this upcoming patch! The key changes are as follows

  • Legendary items that give Critical Chance will always give 25% instead of 20%
  • No "perfect" item: Items will now only provide two stats, such as Attack Damage-Critical Strike, Attack Speed-Critical Strike, or Attack Damage-Attack Speed (no longer all three)
  • Movement Speed becomes a core stat for ADCs
  • New non-Crit items will be introduced

Rune system overhaul

Patch 14.10 brings a major rune rework. Several runes, including Lethal Tempo and Predator, will be removed to make way for new ones. The removal of Lethal Tempo, in particular, goes hand-in-hand with the ADC system overhaul. Since Marksmen can’t rely solely on this rune for Attack Speed anymore, Attack Speed purchases through items become more important.

LoL 14.10 Patch Preview

It's important to note that these are preliminary changes based on early patch notes. The final adjustments and their specifics will be confirmed once the patch finishes its testing on PBE!

League of Legends’ ranked climb is notorious for its rollercoaster of highs and lows, demanding immense dedication from those who strive for the top. To recognize players on this arduous journey, Riot Games has a tradition of gifting exclusive Victorious skins to high achievers. Since these skins can't be bought, they're highly coveted!

The Victorious skin line imagines a world where champions have reached their ultimate potential. Here, they've conquered enemies, ascended to new heights, and achieved their wildest dreams; their blue and gold attire showcasing their hard-earned glory. For Season 14, the Victorious skins for the first two splits have already been revealed. Here's how you can claim your own piece of victory!

How to Get Victorious Kog'Maw and Sona in LoL?

In a recent dev update video, Riot Games revealed that Victorious Kog'Maw will be the ranked reward skin for Split 1 of Season 14, with Victorious Sona following in Split 2.

Traditionally, Victorious skins were granted to one of the most impactful champions of a given ranked season and were awarded to League players who reached Gold rank or higher. However, the system was revamped in 2023.

Now, earning Split Points is key. These points accumulate after each ranked game, allowing you to unlock the Victorious skin regardless of rank, though reaching Gold reduces the required points. Here's the breakdown:

  • Iron, Bronze, Silver: 1,600 Split Points
  • Gold and Above: 800 Split Points
  • Achieving Honor Level 2 or above is also mandatory to claim the Victorious skins

To earn Split Points, simply play Ranked Solo/Duo or Ranked Flex during the Ranked Split season. Victories grant 10 points, while losses award 6. Every game contributes to your progress!

Deadlines for Victorious Kog’Maw and Sona

The time to climb for Victorious Kog'Maw is almost over! Split 1 ends on May 14, 2024, at 11:59 PM (your server's local time). Make sure you've accumulated enough Split Points to claim this exclusive skin before the deadline hits.

Victorious Sona arrives in Split 2, which starts on May 15, 2024, at 12:00 PM (your server's local time). While an exact date isn't confirmed yet, Victorious Sona is expected to be unavailable around mid-September.

In an effort to improve the ranked experience and speed up the ranked climb, Riot Games has introduced a three-split ranked structure in 2024: January, May, and September 2024. This means that, from Season 14 onward, there will be three ranked resets per year, instead of just one.

Riot Games has acknowledged that the previous year-long ranked structure can feel like a real grind, with a long gap until a fresh climb. They also recognise that there is a down period at the end of the year where a lot of players want to play ranked but can't.

Another perk of the three-split system is the chance to earn three Victorious skins with every season. It's a fantastic way to showcase your dedication and collect these prestigious rewards!

For those who conquer all three splits and unlock all Victorious skins, Riot has prepared a special surprise! League players who achieve this feat will receive a unique border at the end of the year for each skin, reflecting their highest rank attained in Season 14. It's a badge of honor that celebrates your ranked journey in League of Legends.

LoL Patch 14.9 is Out Now!

LoL Patch 14.9 is Out Now! - Main Image

LoL Patch 14.9 has arrived, bringing the long-awaited Art & Sustainability Update (ASU) for Lee Sin alongside a wave of gameplay and champion balance adjustments. With this patch, Riot cracks down on hitbox inaccuracies and re-tuning a bunch of fighter itemization, giving items a clearer identity and opening up itemization options.

This big Season 14 update affects 23 champions and over 6 items, promising major gameplay shifts and a potential shakeup in the meta!

LoL Patch 14.9 is now live!

Adhering to Riot’s patch schedule for League of Legends, LoL Patch 14.7 went live on May 1, 2024.

Fighter Items Get Sharper Focus

While Patch 14.8 was more buff-heavy, Patch 14.9 veers to the opposite, aiming to “pull power out of the champions” who have been dominating in Season 14. However, the biggest balance changes target items.

Fighter itemization has been muddled, and Riot is taking steps to reshape these items into clear aggressive purchases. Patch 14.9 completely reworks Maw of Malmortius, transforming it into a powerful item for light fighters like Riven or Fiora. Omnivamp replaces lifesteal, and added Ability Haste sweetens the deal.

However, the reduced Magic Resist pushes it towards burst resistance, making it less effective for shutting down mages in extended duels. Ideally, mages can wait out the shield and then resume their assault, while light fighters gain a more attractive offensive option.

Death's Dance also receives a rework. Similar to Maw of Malmortius, Riot aims to make it a clear choice for aggressive, high-attack damage fighters. Buffs include increased Attack Damage and healing. While Riot is cautious about snowballing fighters, being in melee range already comes with risks that have hindered that.

Hitbox Inconsistencies Addressed

The dev team is adjusting the game’s Selection Radius, which determines the size of a champion's hitbox when you hover over them with your mouse. This doesn't affect attack range or skill shot accuracy, just how easy it is for players to target enemy champions. Most champions have a Selection Radius between 100 and 140, but some outliers are being adjusted to better match their size and improve gameplay consistency.

On the other hand, there’s Gameplay Collision Radius, which affects gameplay mechanics like auto attacks and dodging skill shots. This radius is being adjusted as well, with the goal of making these interactions feel smoother and more intuitive. These changes are purely for clarity and consistency – no champion is getting stronger or weaker.

Overall, these adjustments should make targeting champions feel more natural and responsive, reducing those frustrating moments where you feel like you should have hit an enemy.

LoL Victorious Skins Revealed for Season 14 Ranked Splits - Main Image

Riot Games has officially announced in their most recent Dev Update video that two new Victorious skins will be included in the LoL 2024 season ranked rewards.

Players can look forward to obtaining an ADC skin for Split 1 and a support skin for Split 2 by earning sufficient ranked split points. Notably, Gold tier and higher players will have the opportunity to acquire these skins for a reduced number of points.

Below is everything you must be aware of regarding the ranked rewards for League of Legends Season 2024.

League of Legends Season 2024 ranked rewards revealed

In a recent Dev blog named "Ranked Rewards in 2024," Riot Games recognised the modifications implemented in the previous seasons, such as the ranked rewards system and its rollout.

The blog also mentioned: "So we wanted to show you what we have planned as there are now three splits each Ranked season, as well as how the rewards are going to look for 2024 and onward for now."

Players must be aware that the publisher has increased the reward track by introducing two splits and distributing Victorious Anivia and Tryndamere in 2023.

In 2024, Riot decided against merely tripling the rewards, as it was deemed insufficiently impactful. Consequently, the company reevaluated the reward structure for both individual splits and overall participation.

They stated: "Don’t worry you’re not getting LESS, we made sure of that—but we did make some slight changes to how the rewards usually look like."

The Victorious skins for 2024 are Victorious Kog'Maw and Victorious Sona.

What are the changes?

The modifications are outlined below:

  • The split icon's end has been shifted to the conclusion of the season instead of the end of the split
  • Riot Games has decreased the Split Point requirement for the Victorious Skins for players below Gold from 1600 to 1000
  • Players will receive the chromas corresponding to their rank at the conclusion of every split
  • Riot Games has introduced a fresh feature called the "End of Year Experience," offering players a new Ranked emote to display their highest rank achieved. It says: "As a bonus, if you complete (obtain the Victorious skin) all three splits all of the skins will receive a splash art border denoting the highest rank that you reached for the year on the splash art for each Victorious skin. This will immediately apply to all three earned Victorious skins for the year once it's granted."

Returning to the topic of Victorious skins, players who achieve 80 Split points and are ranked Gold or higher, or 1000 Split points if they are below Gold, will be rewarded with the Victorious Kog'Maw skin. Similarly, achieving the same requirements in Split 2 will grant players the Victorious Sona skin in LoL.

LoL Legend Faker Rumored to Get First Hall of Fame Skin - Main Image

To no one’s surprise, Faker, widely regarded as the greatest League of Legends player of all time, is heavily rumoured to be the first to receive a skin in the upcoming LoL Esports Hall of Legends.

Earlier this year, Riot Games announced a special pantheon dedicated to celebrating and honouring the legacies of pro players who have shaped competitive League. With over 14 years of esports history, countless players and team staff have inspired millions with their talent and dedication!

Faker rumoured to be the first LoL Esports Hall of Fame inductee

Throughout LoL esports' incredible 14-year history, pro players from around the world have left their mark, displaying incredible resilience, mastery of gameplay, and inspiring millions of fans across the globe. To honour their legacies and lasting impact, Riot Games plans to establish the LoL Esports Hall of Legends.

It is rumoured that, following a vote by an independent panel of esports veterans and experts, Faker was chosen as the first inductee. He will most likely be immortalised with a special Ahri skin.

According to reliable leaker BigBadBear, these "Hall of Legends" skins are rumoured to have a predominantly red colour scheme with gold accents, evoking a “glorious" vibe. The price point remains unconfirmed, but speculation suggests it might be either a Legendary or a new skin tier altogether.

A full circle moment for Faker

On 19 November 2023, amidst the electrifying atmosphere of the Gocheok Sky Dome, T1 emerged victorious over LPL's Weibo Gaming in a decisive 3-0 sweep, claiming their fourth Worlds title after seven years of near misses. As is tradition, each member of the team received a Worlds skin to commemorate their hard-fought victory and remarkable journey to the pinnacle of League of Legends esports.

In 2013, Faker’s request for an Ahri Worlds skin was rejected, and unfortunately, the same happened again in 2023. However, this special Ahri skin from the Hall of Legends serves as a fitting tribute, not only marking him as the first inductee but also completing a symbolic full circle in his legendary career.

Fans are already speculating who the next inductees may be. Many hope to see legends like Uzi (Vayne), MadLife (Thresh), and Rekkles (Sivir) enshrined.

Looking to the future, the Hall of Legends will stand as a testament to the triumphs, individual brilliance, and lasting legacies etched by pro players and teams in the ever-evolving world of competitive League of Legends.

Briar Jungle Dominance Continues in LoL Patch 14.5 - Main Image

Briar has been an undisputed queen of the jungle in LoL and it seems this won't change in the foreseeable future. While she remains a top pick among players throughout different ranks, many also opt to ban her.

Her global ultimate and aggressive playstyle has made her a formidable force. However, what pushes her forward and above all other junglers currently is Eclipse, but only if you rush the item on her. It comes as no surprise that many decide to ban her, and question when this reign will end. With no major changes to Briar in the 14.5 patch, the community is furiously asking, did Riot forget about Briar?

Briar's Eclipse build is "breaking" the meta in LoL 14.5

The undeniable synergy between Briar and Eclipse is at the heart of the matter within the community. The community grapples with the question: did Riot overlook the overwhelming power of this combination in LoL's recent patch?

Players discovered a surprising interaction between Eclipse and Black Cleaver. Eclipse's bonus damage and shield proc now activate in just one auto attack thanks to Black Cleaver's armour shred up to 25%. This unexpected synergy significantly boosts Briar's damage and survivability in fights and ganks.

Gank powerhouse

Briar's ultimate is a game-changing teleport and has always been a key tool for surprise ganks. The Eclipse build just adds another layer of power, giving her extra burst damage and sustain, making her ganks even stronger.

Briar's kit revolves around her frenzy (W), a powerful stun that fuels her aggression. With Eclipse in the mix, landing her stun becomes even more rewarding. Not only does it disable enemies, but it also triggers Eclipse's healing passive, keeping Briar in the fight longer. This potent combination of stunning, healing, and dealing amplified damage in a single auto has propelled Briar to the top of the jungle food chain, especially in lower ranks.

This has further led to a high win rate, especially in those lower ranks.

Is she too strong?

However, this dominance has raised concerns about Briar's potential imbalance. "Turbulent_Grand7208" argues that she feels "unkillable" in some situations, while others highlight that strong counters and proper itemization can shut her down. Regardless of the opinion, the discussion highlights the need for potential adjustments to maintain a balanced jungle.

Building the beast

Beyond the balance debate, the community is exploring optimal build paths for Briar. Two main approaches have emerged: bruiser and lethality. Players recommend building Titanic Hydra and Sundered Sky for a bruiser build in addition to Eclipse and Black Cleaver, focusing on staying alive and dealing sustained damage. Lethality builds prioritise burst damage with items like Youmuu's Ghostblade and Collector.

Taming the threat

While Briar may be strong, the community has identified ways to counter her. Early invades can disrupt her jungle routine and slow down her itemisation. Anti-heal items like Bramble Vest and Mortal Reminder can significantly reduce her sustain in fights.

On top of that, champions with strong crowd control (CC), movement speed boosts, or abilities that can cancel her frenzy (W) can also effectively neutralise her threat. Briar must be stopped, and if Riot is not doing its job nerfing her, the community can help you understand her weaknesses.

Skill still matters

While she does boast a high win rate in lower ranks, players like Milenyus suggest this might be due to a lack of awareness and counterplay knowledge. As players climb the ladder and face more strategic opponents, Briar's dominance seems to lessen, indicating that her true strength lies in a combination of champion mastery and understanding the current meta, as highlighted by "DrKersh."

Briar's rise is still a hot topic within the community and whether the adjustments are made or not, Briar's impact on the jungle is sure to be felt for some time to come.

LoL Patch 14.5 hits the Rift! This patch builds upon changes made in previous patches by refining champions like Seraphine, Rek'Sai, and Smolder, while addressing overperforming champions like Twisted Fate. The dev team continues to fine-tune support items, aiming for balanced power curves, while also promoting more diverse itemisation options for AP assassins.

A substantial patch affecting 20 champions and 9 items, Patch 14.5 brings a host of gameplay changes. Without further ado, let's dive into some highlights!

LoL Patch 14.5 is out now

Adhering to Riot’s patch schedule, League of Legends Patch 14.5 went live on 6 March 2024.

AD Twisted Fate receives massive nerfs

One champion has been flourishing a bit too much in the current meta: Twisted Fate. He's surged to the top across multiple roles, including mid, top, and even bot lane. Despite previous nerfs, the card-slinging mage remained dominant in Season 14, particularly when built with the recently popular AD build, surpassing other champions in their intended roles.

Patch 14.5 aims to curb his power with targeted nerfs to his AD scaling. This includes reducing the bonus attack damage and attack speed scaling on his Stacked Deck ability. Ultimately, The dev team wants to ensure AP Twisted Fate is the stronger way to play him while also placing AD Twisted Fate into the “viable” category of champion builds.

Support and AP items see further adjustments

Furthermore, the dev team is making further adjustments to support items, aiming to achieve a balance in their power curves and promote greater parity among them. Additionally, this patch aims to offer more diverse itemisation options for AP assassins.

The overperforming tank support item, Solstice Sleigh, receives severe nerfs in this patch, while Celestial Opposition is getting buffed to make it a more viable alternative. These buffs target melee champions without overpowering enchanters.

Solstice Sleigh's cooldown increased from 20 to 30 seconds, movement speed went from 25% to 35%, and bonus health changed from 7% total health to 50-230 (Levels 6-18). Conversely, Celestial Opposition gained a cooldown reduction (20 to 18 seconds) and an improved slow (60% for 2 seconds, compared to 50% for 1.5 seconds).

Since the Season 14 item overhaul, AP items have seen numerous adjustments. Patch 14.5 addresses concerns about limited itemisation options, especially in high-skill brackets where players often default to the same build paths. The goal is to promote more diverse choices by adjusting the power disparity of three key items: Lich Bane (AP damage decreased), Stormsurge (movement speed increased) and Hextech Protobelt (total price has been increased slightly to accommodate an increase in AP.)

Overall, Patch 14.5 strives to achieve greater balance across champions and items within their respective roles.

How to Roam in League of Legends and Dominate the Game - Main Image

Roaming in League of Legends is not simply aimless wandering on the map. It is a strategic move that can significantly influence the outcome of the game in your team's favour. This comprehensive how to roam in League of Legends guide aims to provide clarity on effective roaming techniques, whether you intend to support your team or establish dominance over the map.

By the conclusion of this article, you will possess the knowledge and skills required to roam proficiently in League of Legends and make a substantial impact. Additionally, we will delve into the intricacies of roaming as a support player, a pivotal role that can turn the tide of the game.

Prepare yourself to elevate your gameplay and enjoy the journey of improvement.

What is roaming?

Roaming involves departing from your designated lane to support allies in different areas of the map. When done effectively, it becomes a valuable skill that can exert pressure, open up chances for your team, and interfere with the opponent's strategies.

Having a good grasp of roaming in League of Legends is essential for players aiming to influence the game's result.

When should I roam?

Understanding the optimal timing for roaming can have a significant impact. Key opportunities arise when your opponent in the same lane is absent or when you have successfully pushed the wave towards their turret, allowing you to move freely without sacrificing much.

Additionally, it is advisable to roam when there is a chance to secure important objectives like Dragon or Rift Herald, or when you need to provide assistance to struggling lanes. By roaming to establish or clear vision in the jungle, you can effectively prevent enemy ganks and maintain your team's advantage.

For support players in League of Legends who are learning how to roam, it is crucial to choose moments when your ADC is in a safe position, enabling you to make a meaningful impact elsewhere.

Pre-roaming checklist

Prior to commencing your roaming expedition, guarantee that all aspects are in proper order by adhering to this comprehensive checklist:

  • Assess your lane position: Examine the positioning of your lane. Is it closer to the enemy tower, enabling you to retreat without significant losses? This strategy helps reduce the loss of minions and experience.
  • Evaluate the condition of your teammates' lanes. Are there any lanes that are pushed towards the enemy, creating a favourable chance for a successful gank? Alternatively, is there a teammate who is struggling under their tower and would benefit from your assistance in shifting the momentum?
  • Be aware of the enemy jungler's whereabouts by regularly checking the minimap. Having knowledge of their last known position can help you avoid falling into a trap and turning your roam into a disastrous situation.
  • Evaluate your vision and prioritize safety. Have you placed enough wards to guarantee the security of your roaming path? If there is a deficiency in vision or the possibility of the enemy jungler's presence, it would be wise to postpone your roam until you have a better understanding of the situation.

By adhering to this checklist, you guarantee that you are making well-informed choices regarding the timing and manner of roaming, thereby minimizing risks and maximizing potential benefits.

Choosing your target

Choosing where to roam requires skill and strategy. Seek out opportunities where your presence can make a significant difference. Perhaps there is a lane slightly behind that could benefit from your assistance or an enemy laner who is vulnerable due to lack of vision.

Additionally, consider the objectives of the game. Is the Dragon about to spawn? Roaming to the bot lane could provide your team with the advantage needed to secure it.

Alternatively, roaming to the top lane could help secure the Herald. Analyze where you can have the greatest impact and make your move. It is important to remember that roaming in League of Legends is not solely about securing kills, but also about applying pressure where it is most crucial.

Roaming routes and techniques

The route you choose can determine the success or failure of your roam. Utilize the jungle and river strategically, manoeuvring through areas where the enemy is unlikely to have vision.

Occasionally, the shortest path can catch them off guard. Incorporating blast cones and other jungle plants can introduce an element of surprise to your roam.

Additionally, prioritize speed and take the most efficient route to reach your target and return to your lane without sacrificing too much.

The most effective roam is often the one that catches the enemy completely unaware. Keep them guessing, and you'll constantly keep them on edge.

Your match will start soon error in League of Legends can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you're eagerly waiting to join a ranked game or have some casual fun with your friends. Unfortunately, this error has persisted in the game for several years now.

Essentially, it prevents you from entering the game even after you and your teammates have selected your champions. This error typically appears after the champ is selected, while players anxiously wait to enter the Summoner's Rift.

In this article, we will delve into everything we currently know about this error. There are a few potential solutions to help you resolve it.

What is the Your match will soon Start error in League of Legends?

It is important for players to comprehend that this mistake prevents both teams from engaging in the intended game. Instead, it confines the players after champion selection. Many players, after enduring a considerable wait, ultimately abandon the game by closing the client.

This issue was reported several years ago. The notification displayed simply states: "[System Notification] Your match will start soon. Please wait as we load up your game. This process should not take more than a few minutes."

Why are you getting this error?

Players must be aware that they have no control over the Your match will start soon error, as it is related to the game's servers. When there is a server outage on Riot Games' end, this error message appears, particularly for those who are in the process of loading into a match.

One possible solution is to exit the League of Legends client and log back in. This action may prompt the game to reload and potentially allow you to connect to the match you and your friends or teammates are attempting to join.

How to Fix Unknown Player Error in League of Legends

Prior to troubleshooting the Unknown Player error in League, it is recommended to verify your internet connection. This error may be caused by problems with your Wi-Fi router. Attempt to resolve this issue by resetting your modem - power it off for 10 seconds and then power it back on.

Additionally, unplug and plug back in your router after 10 seconds. Restart your computer and proceed to launch the game to check if the problem persists. If the error persists, consider resolving it by flushing your DNS cache or adjusting your DNS server settings to alternative servers.

To flush your DNS cache, follow these steps:

  • While on the desktop, press the Windows Key and type CMD.
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
  • Close the command prompt and attempt to make a connection.

To verify your network configuration, access the Run dialog on Windows by typing Firewall.cpl. Disable any proxies that might disrupt the login module.

Additionally, ensure that you update or create exceptions for League of Legends in your security programs. Lastly, attempt to resolve any software conflicts by closing background applications.

If you are encountering any further errors, please submit a ticket through League of Legends Support. In your ticket, provide a detailed explanation of the issues you are facing and the solutions you have attempted using the repair tool.

To assist Riot support in better understanding the problem, make sure to select the 'Gather System & LoL Logs' option in the Hextech Repair Tool and attach the .zip folder generated by the tool to your ticket.

This concludes all the necessary information for resolving the Unknown Player error in League of Legends.

The LoL dev team team offered their insights on Season 14 in a recent Dev Update video. Executive Producer Jeremy "Riot Brightmoon" Lee, Game Director Pu "Riot Pupulasers" Liu, and Lead Gameplay Designer Matthew "Riot Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison discussed their thoughts on the season so far and gave players a sneak peek into what’s to come.

From removing Mythic Items to being able to ride Shelley into battle, Season 14 saw a whirlwind of adjustments in terrain, map objectives, and item overhauls. At the same time, Riot revamped several major systems within the game, including the introduction of a three-split ranked structure to speed up the ranked climb. It’s undeniable that Season 14 has been a breath of fresh air for LoL, injecting a renewed sense of excitement into the game!

LoL devs reflect on Season 14

In late 2023, Riot Games decided to remove Preseason altogether. This decision stemmed from two key factors: one, the novelty of changes fading by the time the new season arrived, and two, aligning player excitement for new mechanics with the start of their ranked journey.

Overall, the League team is pleased with the removal of the Preseason and the shift of gameplay changes to the beginning of the season, as well as the current state of the game.

However, they acknowledge that while many changes were well-received, some inadvertently paved the way for unhealthy meta-defining strategies. For instance, certain item changes resulted in burst damage becoming insanely powerful. The team has taken steps to address this imbalance and aims to scale damage back down to its levels following the Durability Update.

Addressing LP gains and smurfing in ranked

Last season, roughly half of Emerald players and 85% of Master+ players experienced extended periods of negative LP gains. This issue has been rectified, and LP gains/losses should feel more consistent this season!

Additionally, bug fixes have been implemented to address legitimate new players placing in Gold or Plat ranks. The dev team continues to refine their ability to distinguish between smurfs (experienced players in low-skill lobbies) and genuine new players.

More on Vanguard

League's version of the anti-cheat system, Vanguard, will be customised to specifically target in-game cheaters, scripters, and bots. The system will be rolled out initially in a single region for close monitoring before wider implementation.

Riot Vanguard is an existing anti-cheat software used in Valorant. It aims to ensure competitive integrity by employing various measures to detect and prevent cheating. It's composed of two parts: a client that runs while you're playing a Riot game, and a kernel-mode driver that runs at the deepest level of your system.

It has been confirmed that players will be required to install Vanguard to play League of Legends.

Other exciting updates

League of Legends is finally introducing new introductory, beginner, and intermediate bots! More details about these bots are available on the official dev blog.

Yuumi and Leona are scheduled to receive Prestige skins in July. Additionally, a brand-new Mythic theme, "Crystalis Indomitus", will launch in March. Kha'Zix, Xerath, and Nautilus will be the first champions to receive these skins, with Kha'Zix taking the lead! Lastly, the team hinted at "cheesy surprises" arriving in April.

That was everything discussed in the recent LoL "Dev Update" video! Interested in learning more about LoL? We've got you covered. Check out all the champion and item changes planned for the upcoming LoL Patch 14.5.

It's hard to miss, because the entire screen fills up with rows of damage numbers beaming down onto your hapless little spaceship.
