(For Southeast Asia) Marvel’s Wolverine: new gameplay, story details from State of Play

The wait is over! We have an all-new gameplay video for Marvel’s Wolverine, along with details about our gameplay, characters, and story from the recent State of Play. We’re also excited to announce you can pre-order Marvel’s Wolverine starting today.

But first, dive into our new trailer.

(For Southeast Asia) Marvel’s Wolverine: new gameplay, story details from State of Play

Setting the stage: our gameplay trailer

Let’s not mince words: Marvel’s Wolverine is a brutal, violent, and action-packed single-player adventure from our team at Insomniac Games, in collaboration with Marvel Games. It cuts deeper than claw combat alone, with an emotionally charged original story centered on a comic book icon: James “Logan” Howlett, aka Wolverine.

To set up our Extended Gameplay Trailer, Logan is tailing a group of mutants that have been hunted and captured by the Reavers, a guns-for-hire cybernetic militia. The Reavers have plans to deliver the mutants to their client, Bolivar Trask – a billionaire industrialist driven by a fanatical belief in human superiority. We also introduce another major player in Logan’s journey: Jean Grey, a powerful telekinetic and emergent leader of the captured mutants.

Jean lifts her right arm in front and left hand up to the side of her face as a bright, purple aura illuminates her hands and eyes. She’s gearing up to use her telekinetic powers.

The situation is dire and help is limited. Mutants live in the shadows fearful of those hunting them, while the rest of society lives unaware of their existence. The only ones potentially capable of protecting their own is Team X, a last-stand mutant task force facing its darkest hour, which Logan rejoins after leaving three years prior. For the mutants, the fight for survival is theirs alone.

Wolverine angrily slashes his right arm, fist, and claws upward; he’s splitting a Trask grunt’s gun in half. Meanwhile, Jean fights a Reaver on top of a truck just off in the background using her telekinetic powers.

A slice of the action

In his search for the mutants, Logan crosses paths with unsuspecting Reavers. They’re armed to the teeth with advanced technology, equipped with lethal weapons and cybernetic implants. They’re ready for a fight… but so is Wolverine. He can stalk enemies, ambush from above, or shred through them with fast, fluid, and brutal claw attacks.

Drawn in by a frantic plea for help, Logan and Jean are compelled to team up against Trask’s hired guns, and they prove to be more than capable. Logan can carve into foes with special combat moves called “Techniques” such as the Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. Meanwhile, Jean obliterates enemies with her powerful telekinetic abilities, which presents a few opportunities for Critical Strikes. These are devastating finishing moves that Wolverine can execute solo or with other characters; they’re takedown opportunities worth looking out for during a frenzied fight.

Every successful attack, parry, and kill will build up Logan’s Rage. This allows for stronger attacks or activating his Healing Factor to survive grievous body damage. If Logan’s Rage is pushed too far, he can unleash Rage Tier 3: a stylized monochromatic explosion of savagery inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood series.

The overwhelmed Reavers retreat. But Logan can take this fight to go. In one of many set pieces, Wolverine tears through the highway on a motorcycle where he can take out trucks, slash tires, and hurl enemies off the road. He also leaps to different vehicles fighting anything the Reavers throw at him, including powerful Brutes. Bloodied, battered, and on the brink of defeat? Wolverine can channel his rage and kick into Last Stand to activate his Healing Factor; he can live to fight another day and show everyone why he’s the best there is.

Wolverine lunges forward, claws at the ready, at a Reaver. Both are fighting on top of a truck. The rest of the Reaver convoy surrounds them in the background.

First look at God of War Laufey

We’re thrilled to finally share what the team at Santa Monica Studio has been working on, the next mainline entry to the God of War series: God of War Laufey

First look at God of War Laufey

Wishlist God of War Laufey here

God of War Laufey

Death was supposed to be the end, but for Laufey (Faye), warrior and wife to Kratos, a new adventure is just beginning. Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her funeral, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus are now at risk.

To save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods — the Everywhen — where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic.

God of War’s next chapter

Intimate, brutal combat.

Exploration of a rich, beautiful world.

Story at its heart.

Right from the start, we knew Laufey needed to contain all the core elements that define a God of War game.

Faye has always been a formidable warrior in our story. She and Kratos can both hit hard and take hits, so one of our top priorities throughout the development has been handcrafting a uniquely fresh feel for Faye’s gameplay that will also meet the high expectations fans have for the series.

Combining the movement and fluidity of the Greek era with the Norse era’s approach to world-building and close ties with characters — we’ve crafted an experience that has given our team incredible opportunities to take exciting creative swings, while staying true to the pillars of the God of War series.

Interview with Game Director Ariel Lawrence

Santa Monica Studio’s Head of Creative Cory Barlog and God of War Laufey’s Game Director Ariel Lawrence sat down for an extended interview speaking about the reveal, how the idea of a Faye game first came to be, and the long-term creative vision for the franchise.

Watch the full interview with Ariel and Cory below!

First look at God of War Laufey

Introducing Faye

Faye has long been one of the impactful characters in God of War’s Norse saga. A legendary warrior and leader — her impact was left on the Nine Realms long before she ever met Kratos.

God of War Laufey brings Faye to the forefront — exploring the humanity, strengths, and flaws of the person whose legacy was beloved in the minds of many.

To set the stage for Faye’s introduction, God of War Laufey’s Narrative Director and Lead Writer discuss what we know about her going into this journey and give a taste of what awaits her in the afterlife of the gods.

First look at God of War Laufey

Afterlife of the Gods

Odin was haunted by the prophecy of his demise during the events of Ragnarök, obsessively pursuing knowledge of something beyond the afterlives of mortals.

In God of War Laufey, we explore the answer to that question: What happens to the gods when they die?

The Everywhen is the birthplace and endpoint to which all magic returns, a transcendent realm above those we’ve come to know. A location in which gods and creatures from different mythologies come together, and not always in harmonious coexistence.

We’ve shown a brief look at two of the gods Faye will encounter in the Everywhen — Sekhmet and Begtse, both decidedly less than friendly towards a new face suddenly appearing in their midst.

Faye quickly discovers that despite the impossibility of awakening from death in a place that defies everything she thought she knew, it may prove even harder to leave while the natural flow of magic has been disrupted.

Paradise or prison — Faye will need to uncover hidden mysteries about the true nature of the Everywhen throughout her journey if she is to have any hope of finding her way home.

Adventuring party

Reprising her role as Faye after appearing in God of War Ragnarök, we’re thrilled to have the fantastic Deborah Ann Woll lead the cast of God of War Laufey.

Faye will not be venturing into the Everywhen alone, as she meets two companions shortly after she first wakes up.

First look at God of War Laufey

Phranque, played by Jack Quaid, is a curious cosmic cube with an earnest disposition. He will do whatever it takes to protect his friends and the creatures of the Everywhen.

Rue, played by Perlina Lau, is the enchanted ribbon guardian tasked with keeping the devastatingly powerful sword in her care from falling into the wrong hands.

Together they will embark on a journey deep into the Everywhen that will pit them against a fantastic cast of gods and creatures from across mythology, as well as beings native to the Everywhen itself.

Lethal agility

As the Golden Hand of the Jötnar, Faye has deep roots as a warrior and has proven equal to even the likes of Thor, one of the strongest gods in the Nine Realms.

From the beginning, we’ve built her combat to maximize lethality, power, and fluidity.

Building upon the strengths of the modern God of War combat system while injecting some old school, classic DNA of the Greek era — Laufey will feel fresh, yet familiar to fans of the series.

By allowing Faye to move easily between ground and air without halting the action, we’ve refined a hyper-responsiveness to her combat that we can’t wait for players to experience when they get their hands on the controller for the first time.

Her increased mobility adds a ton of offensive and defensive tools to turn battles against even the fiercest gods to her favor.

We’ve given you a taste of what Faye’s gameplay will look like at the start, and that’s just scratching the surface. There’s so much more we can’t wait to share further down the road — and plenty we’ll leave for fans to discover on their own!

First look at God of War Laufey

Legendary sword for a legendary warrior

As the previous owner of the Leviathan Axe, Faye is no stranger to legendary weapons. Upon her arrival in the Everywhen, she earns the trust of the sword’s guardian Rue enough to use the blade in their fight to escape imprisonment.

Wielded in Faye’s expert hand, its full potential is unleashed.

Speed, control, and relentlessness define the tempo of Faye’s combat. Building and maintaining momentum from one attack to the next, across the ground or into the sky, she creates a relentless onslaught against her foes.

Golden Hand of the Jötnar

The Giants of Jötunheim had access to powerful magic, so much so that even Odin viewed them as one of the greatest threats to his rule over the Nine Realms.

As the Golden Hand of the Jötnar, the most powerful protector of the Giants — Faye wielded fearsome powers, including the ability to manipulate souls.

After arriving in the afterlife of the gods, a place steeped in the oldest of magic, Faye’s own soul related abilities are greatly amplified.

In the Everywhen, Faye can strike her golden palm at a foe with such force it detaches their soul from their body. From there, Faye can attack the soul directly, knock it into other enemies, and more — opening up combos and creative uses that we hope players will have a lot of fun mastering.

Back for more!

As we get closer to release, we’ll be back to share more details about the afterlife of the gods.

On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio and all our partners working on God of War Laufey, thank you so much for watching the announcement video. We appreciate all the support fans have shown this series over the last two decades and hope you enjoy what we’ve got coming next!

Wishlist today

God of War Laufey is available for wishlisting today on the PlayStation Store.

Coming soon to PlayStation 5!

Until Dawn 2 is coming to PS5 in 2027

Back in 2015, Until Dawn arrived on PlayStation 4, and we all fell (and screamed) in love with this instant classic. Now, we’re beyond excited to finally announce an all-new sequel for PS5… and if that’s not enough, we’ve got the world’s first trailer, right here, just for you.

Until Dawn 2 is coming to PS5 in 2027

Until Dawn 2 is a standalone experience, featuring a brand new cast, a whole new world to explore, and true to form, a modern horror experience packed with intrigue, emotion, twists, and the kind of choices that will keep you up at night. Your decisions still shape the story: who falls victim, and who survives Until Dawn…

Brand new story

Our cast this time is a crew of ghost hunters, the faces behind the wildly popular paranormal channel, Dead True.. Only, well… they’ve never actually seen anything supernatural. The scares they are known for are, let’s say, a little staged. But all that changes when for the very first time, they come face-to-face with real horrors and must start living up to their reputation to survive until dawn.

Having just signed a deal with a big TV network, the crew gets shipped off to an abandoned tropical island for their first fully funded episode.  At first, it’s all sun, sand, secrets… plus some very not-safe-for-the-workplace drama as their complicated relationships bubble to the surface.

Of course, there’s more to this beautiful island than meets the eye.  Beneath this blissful exterior, hide dreadful and heartbreaking secrets – centuries old and hungry for vengeance… and our crew have landed right in the middle of it.

Chasing likes might have brought them here, but survival quickly becomes the only metric that counts. Will you help them escape to tell the world their story, or will they become just another haunted legend, claimed by the island?

Choice and consequence

Would it even be an Until Dawn game without gut-wrenching decisions? Will you risk injury to save a cute baby boar from a gnarly bear trap? Keep a scandalous affair going, even if it could blow up the group? Push someone to their breaking point, all for the sake of content that your intimidating boss says you need to get?

This time, how you manage relationships within the crew matters more than ever, with some branches based on where things stand between characters. It’s not just the huge moments, even small character moments can set off a Butterfly Effect, sending your story spinning off towards unforeseen consequences…

Stay tuned for more

Here at Firesprite, we took the reins on Until Dawn 2 as our first release since Horizon: Call of the Mountain, where we collaborated with our friends at Guerrilla Games. Like many of you, a bunch of us on the team are massive fans of the original Until Dawn, so getting to build the sequel has been a dream come true.  Part of our mission from day one has been honoring that core DNA: character drama, tough choices, and those unforgettable horror moments that made the first game so special.

In the coming months, we’ll be rolling out more story details, diving into Until Dawn 2’s gameplay, and of course, introducing our new cast. Amongst the characters in today’s reveal you’ll have spotted the return of the enigmatic Dr Hill, played once again by the fantastic Peter Stormare. We’ve still got plenty more to share leading up to the launch of Until Dawn 2 in 2027.

Thanks for reading!

Did this week's PlayStation State of Play host the largest number of games running on PS5 Pro? Not technically, but close

For a while after it launched, I never felt like the PlayStation 5 Pro ever actually came out. You could argue Sony hasn't been promoting it well. The initial Ghost of Yotei reveal took place in a September 2024 State of Play, yet its trailer didn't include Pro footage, and the accompanying PS Blog post makes no mention of whether or not the game would support it. At that point, the Pro was mere days old - but you'd think the first major first-party title to be announced after the Pro's reveal would, you know, reference it?

Legacy of Kain: Defiance is back, and the camera finally stopped defying us

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered

Fate is at it again. The long-awaited remaster of Legacy of Kain: Defiance is coming, and the stars have foretold it will arrive later this year.

Much like the remasters of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and its sequel, the Defiance redux boldly reimagines key elements of the original game. One of these deviations, a complete overhaul of the game's camera system, has convinced me Destiny's wheel isn't as unstoppable as it seems.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance's camera made Kain's last journey hard to follow

Most fans of Crystal Dynamics' Shakespearean vampire fantasy saga look back on Legacy of Kain: Defiance with fondness. The game brings Kain's bloody battle against the forces that shaped his fate to a satisfying finish, answering almost every philosophical riddle raised throughout the series with grace and nuance. Sadly, the game's camera system was a few clowns short of a circus.

In their eagerness to showcase the game's impressive graphics and atmospheric level design, Defiance's development team drew inspiration from Resident Evil and opted for a fixed camera system. While this setup lends the tortured world of Nosgoth a cinematic flair rarely seen in games of the time, it can make actually playing the game quite an unpleasant ordeal.

Defiance's core gameplay boasts a healthy mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combo-focused combat, and the game's camera has a knack for messing up all of them. Paths forward, puzzle solutions, and enemies readying to hit you all have a nasty habit of hiding just out of frame, and even when they are visible, the wonky perspective can make it hard to gauge how close or far they are from you. Automatic lock-on in combat and less-than-ideal collision detection don't make things any easier.

The "bold" decision to immobilize Defiance's camera tarnished the game's reputation for years after its release. Legacy of Kain's fans love Defiance's story, but they hate its camera with a bloodlust worthy of the man himself, if Reddit posts like this one are anything to go by.

Defiance Remastered's new camera system blesses classic Kain with a modern perspective

While showing Definace: Remastered off during Thursday's State of Play, Crystal Dynamics made it painfully obvious they didn't brush aside players' opinions of the original's camera. The remaster trades fixed camera angles for a free-floating camera that the player can control independently. From what little we've seen of the remake's gameplay, this change could fix everything wrong with Defiance.

Terrible as the pun may be, Kain fans are eating well right now. Not only do we now have a complete, remastered version of the Soul Reaver saga, but we also have Legacy of Kain: Ascendance, a side-scrolling prequel that brings back most of the original cast. Sometimes, fate smiles on us mere mortals.

Octopath Traveler 0 demo out today on PS5 and PS4

Octopath Traveler 0 comes out for PS5 and PS4 on December 4, 2025… but who wants to wait that long? You can start your adventure today in the new free demo!

This generous chunk of game lets you play through the opening prologue, and play through the first chapter of multiple story arcs… or for three hours. Whichever comes first.

And yes – progress does carry over to the full game.

The demo’s not the only thing that’s dropped today – as part of today’s reveal we also released a brand-new trailer that gives you some enticing insight into the game’s brilliant story. Take a look:

Octopath Traveler 0 demo out today on PS5 and PS4

Read on and we’ll tell you what you can do in the demo – and how you can get it. First, though, we should introduce the game itself:

What is Octopath Traveler 0?

Octopath Traveler 0 is an HD-2D RPG that offers a fresh take on the acclaimed series.

Rather than eight separate characters and stories as in previous games, Octopath Traveler 0  follows your customizable protagonist on a journey to find those who destroyed your hometown Wishvale – and bring them to justice!

Not only that, but you’ll also have the opportunity to rebuild your town, placing buildings, decorations and more to make it feel like… well, a home.

It’s a stirring tale of revenge and retribution, with more than 30 allies to recruit, each with their own stories. Not to mention thrillingly strategic turn-based battles with up to eight party members at a time, and beautiful visuals thanks to the series’ signature HD-2D graphics.

Oh, and in true Octopath fashion, it also has one of the best soundtracks you’ll hear this year.

You can get a taste of all of this, of course, in the new demo!

What’s included in the free demo?

One of the first things you’ll do in the Octopath Traveler 0 demo is make your protagonist! For the first time in the series, you get to design the main character yourself, choosing an appearance and a few other features that suit your personal style.

Then, you play through the game’s prologue. The town of Wishvale is celebrating its annual Day of Reverence and about to light the blue flame that protects peace. The festive atmosphere is brought to a sudden stop when the town is attacked and engulfed in red flames.

In the aftermath, your plucky protagonist sets out on a mission to find those responsible.

Once you’re done with the prologue, you have a lot of freedom in what you do and how you explore. The game features three antagonists, known as Masters, who each have their own story arc. In the demo, you can play through the first chapter of all three ‘Master of’ arcs, as well as the ‘Kindlers of the Flame’ story, which introduces the restoration of Wishvale and its town-building mechanics.

The demo lasts for three hours – and you can play through as much of that content as you like in that time.

What can you expect from the battle system?

Whichever arc you choose to play, you’ll get to experience the game’s super satisfying turn-based battles.

The game uses the acclaimed ‘Break & Boost’ battle system, which is based around exploiting enemy weaknesses to whittle down their Shield Points and break them. Once broken, an enemy is stunned and vulnerable to attacks.

Each turn, characters in your party also accumulate Boost Points (BP). These can be spent to attack multiple times in a single turn, strengthen certain attacks, increase the potency of healing and buffs and more.

The key to success is knowing when to use BP and when to hold them. For example, is it worth using multiple attacks to break an enemy now, or should you save them for when your foe is vulnerable so you can maximize damage? Each fight is a fun, strategic challenge.

You’ll meet some allies in the demo, and the combat system only expands further in the main game. You’ll be able to recruit more than 30 characters to your team, and battle with up to eight of them in the party at a time.

You’ll have a front and back row in battle, and have the ability to switch between them even mid-fight. That means more BP to play with, and faster battles with even more strategic depth!

How does town-building factor into the demo?

Your journey’s not just about retribution – it’s about restoration as well.

During the demo, you’ll be able to start rebuilding Wishvale and explore the new town creation mechanics. You can place buildings, decorations and more as you start to build a settlement that feels uniquely yours.

As you build Wishvale in the demo and in the full game, you’ll add more residents and facilities, which can supply items and equipment, train your party with new skills and more to help you on your adventures.

As you adventure, you’ll collect valuable resources and potential residents that you can use to expand and improve Wishvale.

There’s a lot of depth to the town-building in the game, and you’ll get to lay some strong foundations in the free demo, before you unleash your creativity in the final game!

Do you need to have played Ocopath Traveler I or II to play this?

Octopath Traveler 0 is set in Orsterra – the setting for the original Octopath Traveler. However, the game starts before the events of that game, and tells its own, unconnected story, so you’re not missing any vital narrative if you’ve never played an Octopath game before.

That said, If you do have save files on the same console for Octopath Traveler I, Octopath Traveler II (and even Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake or Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake!), you’ll also earn some useful items or customization items for your town in the full game.
