Included in the Galaxy AI suite for the Galaxy S24 series is a Generative Wallpaper tool. You may have heard of it, and it is one of the funner sides of Galaxy AI for Samsung's latest flagships. If you already have used Generative Wallpapers on your Galaxy S24, here's a neat little trick you might want to try.

Fun fact: The wallpapers generated by the AI on the Galaxy S24 are wider than they appear. They're not precise 19.5:9 rectangular images. They contain more AI-generated scenery than it seems, but they're cropped to fit the Galaxy S24's home screen.

Unfortunately, because Samsung doesn't offer an option to save these Generative Wallpapers as image files, and because they don't appear in the Gallery, you can't view the whole AI-generated picture at once. But if you are having fun with these AI wallpapers, there is a way to see more than meets the eye.

View Generative Wallpapers in landscape mode

It turns out that Generative Wallpapers for the Galaxy S24 series are optimized for both portrait and landscape modes. Better yet, landscape wallpapers are not just cropped versions of portrait wallpapers.

If you allow your Galaxy S24's home screen to show content in landscape mode and rotate your phone 45 degrees, you will see that your AI-generated wallpapers are wider than they appear in portrait mode. Take a look at the examples below.

Wallpapers viewed in landscape mode are cropped at the top and bottom, but they will show more content to the sides — content you'll never see in portrait orientation.

As far as we can tell, this is the only official way to get a more complete view of the wallpapers you can generate with the help of AI on the Galaxy S24 series. But hopefully, Samsung will add more settings and options soon.

Until then, if you want to have a bit more fun with your AI wallpapers, you can try this trick by pinching the home screen, accessing “Settings” by tapping the cogwheel icon, and turning on the “Rotate to landscape mode” option.

If you are going to generate more AI wallpapers on your Galaxy S24, keep in mind that there is a limit of 15 wallpapers you can create before old designs are replaced by new ones.

Samsung continues to be a global Olympic and Paralympic partner, and last month, the company revealed its slogan for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Now, in anticipation of the Olympics, Samsung has announced a new partnership with the Dutch Basketball Association.

Basketball is the fastest growing sport in the Netherlands. Now, the Dutch Basketball Association has entered a 3-year partnership with the Korean tech giant Samsung.

The company will support basketball in its entirety as a sponsor. But interestingly, Samsung says its main focus in the run-up to the 2024 Summer Olympics will be 3×3 basketball.

Streetball is taking over, and Samsung is there for it

Not only is Basketball the fastest growing sport in the Netherlands, with the country earning eleven medals at the European and World Championships over the past two years, but 3×3 basketball has also become the number one urban team sport globally.

3-on-3 street basketball, or streetball, puts two teams of three players against one another in matches that last up to 10 minutes or until one team scores 21 points.

Because streetball has a different set of rules than court basketball, it makes for a dynamic and spectacular game with innovative moves and great teamwork, where quick decision-making skills can make the difference between winning and losing.

Samsung is supporting all the Dutch 3×3 basketball teams at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris. The men's teams have at least two chances to qualify for the Olympic Games, while the women's teams can participate in three qualifying tournaments as European champions.

Exactly how Samsung will support the basketball teams in the Netherlands isn't entirely clear, and we don't know if the players will get money and/or Samsung devices out of this partnership. However, the director of the Dutch Basketball Federation, Maarten Hoffer, says:

“Our sport is growing in every possible way. The fact that a leading, innovative brand like Samsung is committed to our sport as a partner shows where Dutch basketball stands: we are proud of that. Samsung has all the knowledge and technology in-house to help make basketball, and 3×3 basketball in particular, even better and more popular in our country.”

This year, Samsung continued its three-pronged strategy for Galaxy S flagships and released three variants of its S24 series, including the base model, the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the middle-of-the-road Galaxy S24+. Now, it's time to present our video review of the latter.

We believe the Galaxy S24+ might be the default choice for many prospective Samsung flagship buyers who don't want a foldable phone or the Ultra model with an S Pen. And thankfully, for these customers, this year's Plus model just got a bit more premium flavor, separating itself further from the base variant.

Ultra-grade screen, great design, fantastic battery life

Samsung's new S24+ has a higher QHD resolution, just like the Ultra model, and can achieve 2,600 nits of brightness, again, just like the Ultra.

The phone is decently sized and has the same high-quality build you'd find on the rest of the series, save for the fact that it doesn't have the Ultra's titanium frame or Gorilla Armor glass. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S24+ looks and feels exquisite.

On the more practical side of things, the Galaxy S24+ is bigger than the base model, which makes it a better multimedia device. Besides, it is a battery monster. The 4,900mAh battery with 45W charging really stands the test of time and offers fantastic autonomy on a single charge.

Without further ado and spoilers (assuming you haven't read our full written Galaxy S24+ review), check out our video review below for all of our thoughts and conclusions on this device.

On a final note, in case you might be wondering, the Galaxy S24+ does ship with One UI 6.1 and the same Galaxy AI tools as the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

These Galaxy AI features open up new possibilities and even break down language barriers. They let users translate voice calls in real time, transcribe audio, summarize documents and webpages, edit photos faster than ever, and search the web for anything on their screens through Circle to Search.

If all this sounds tempting and you're considering buying the Galaxy S24+, make sure you dig into Samsung's online shop for potential discounts, trade-in deals, and bundle offers. You may also want to try the Shop Samsung mobile app, where the company sometimes offers exclusive deals.

Intel has made a return to the foundry business and the company is making significant investments to give incumbents like TSMC and Samsung a run for their money. Samsung's already been having a tough time dealing with TSMC's dominance of the contract chipmaking segment, it now has to keep looking over its shoulder because of Intel as well.

Samsung has been trying to speed up commercialization of highly advanced chipmaking processes in a bid to leap TSMC. The company previously confirmed that its 1.4nm fabrication process would be ready by 2027. Looks like it Intel might be ready by then to give Samsung some competition.

There won't be much smooth sailing for Samsung in the foundry business

Intel has announced that it will start making chips on the cutting-edge 1.4nm process in the coming years. The announcement was made at Intel's first foundry event where Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced Intel 14A for the first time, the company's name for its 1.4n process.

While Samsung and TSMC have both started making chips on the 3nm process, Intel is currently on 5nm, and it's racing to start 2nm production alongside both incumbents by 2025. The US-based chipmaker has a late start in the foundry injury but it's hoping that an increased focused on advanced processes will help it bridge the gap.

Samsung is looking to commercialize 1.4nm chips by 2027 while TSMC is also aiming for 2027-2028. Intel might be looking to get its chips out by the same time. TSMC currently accounts for almost 60% of the contract chipmaking market whlie Samsung is in a distant second place with 13% of the market.

Intel's already signing up big clients, Microsoft has become its first foundry customer by choosing Intel's 1.8nm process to manufacture chips. Intel's CEO has reiterated the company's goal to become the world's second largest foundry by 2030. This all but confirms that Intel is looking to overtake Samsung in the market, which might throw a spanner in Samsung's plans to expand its share.

Now that all the hype around the launch of the Galaxy S24 has reduced, it is time for Samsung to focus on the launch of its next-generation foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are expected to debut in the second half of this year. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 5 was an iterative upgrade, people have high expectations of seeing something radically new with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The first set of Galaxy Z Fold 6 specifications have now been rumored.

Rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6 specifications

It is rumored by tipster @chunvn8888 that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be much thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. A previous report claimed that the phone will be just 11mm thin, making it Samsung's thinnest foldable phone. If this report is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be even thinner than the OnePlus Open (11.7mm). Moreover, the phone is rumored to be a little wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is said to have sharp edges and a titanium build, just like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. We can expect the phone to continue to feature an IPX8 rating for water resistance.

Another tipster, Yogesh Brar, claimed that the cover screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 6.4 inches diagonally, up from the Galaxy Z Fold 5's 6.2-inch screen. He also claimed that the cover screen has an aspect ratio of 20:9, while that of the inner screen is 1.08:1. If this information is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a wider cover screen and an almost square aspect ratio, exactly like the OnePlus Open. This should cheer up Samsung fans, and it looks like the South Korean firm has finally listened to its fanbase. But this rumor also brings some disappointing news. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 reportedly misses out on a built-in S Pen slot. If you were expecting to see a built-in silo for the S Pen stylus, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might disappoint you.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 reportedly features a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. It is said to come with an improved under-display camera on the cover screen. It is rumored to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a 4,600mAh battery. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 4,400mAh battery. A more power-efficient processor and a bigger battery should result in longer battery life. The phone is expected to come in three color options.

Samsung has announced that it will start rolling out the One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series at the end of March 2024. This update will bring several Galaxy AI features seen on the Galaxy S24 series to older high-end phones through a hybrid approach. Some AI features will work on-device, while others need an active internet connection.

By the end of 2024, Samsung aims to bring Galaxy AI features to over 100 million Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

List of AI features coming with One UI 6.1 to older Galaxy devices

The One UI 6.1 update will bring Browsing Assist, Chat Assist, Circle to Search with Google, Generative Edit, Instant Slow-Mo, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, and Transcript Assist to the devices mentioned above.

The Browsing Assist feature allows users to create summaries of articles or webpages, and it only works with the Samsung Internet web browser. It helps users read content and understand it faster.

The Chat Assist feature will enable users to adjust the tone of their language while messaging. Users can get grammar and tone improvements, and the feature works with messaging apps in 13 different languages. With the Circle to Search with Google feature, users can circle anything on the screen to get more information about it online.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra One UI 6.1 Samsung Notes Summarization

With Generative Edit, users can select and erase unwanted objects from images. They can also choose and realign/reposition objects to make an image look like a great shot. They can also adjust images with bad angles and fill the remaining space with matching content created by Generative AI. The Instant Slow-Mo feature lets users turn any regular video into a slow-motion video. It uses AI to generate intermediate frames to double the frames in a video.

The Interpreter mode allows people to converse with others who don't speak their language. This mode opens in split-screen mode on conventional phones, foldable phones, and tablets. Words spoken by a Galaxy device user are transcribed and converted to any other chosen language. Translated text is then converted to voice so the other person can hear it in their language. Similarly, the Live Translate feature translates languages in real time during voice calls. It also works in supported messaging apps, including WhatsApp.

You can check out all these features in our in-depth video below.

The Note Assist feature helps users summarize the text in a note inside Samsung Notes. Summaries can even be used with certain text formatting templates. The Transcript Assist feature works with Samsung's stock Voice Recorder app. It transcribes voice in the recording to text and can even tag up to ten speakers so that users can understand things better. All that transcription can then be summarized, which is great for classes and meetings.

In our video below, you can watch other non-AI features introduced with the One UI 6.1 update. Some of those features, such as wallpaper support on Always On Display, will not be coming to any Galaxy smartphone or tablet launched before the Galaxy S24.

As for other Galaxy phones, many will receive One UI 6.1, but the AI features are currently expected to be exclusive to Samsung's flagship devices launched in 2023 and beyond.

TM Roh, President and Head of the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible. This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI.
