Helldivers 2 has always featured multiple different kinds of planets and biomes, but it’s finally added an entirely new one alongside its Viper Commandos warbond that’s been a hit with fans. It is, of course, a jungle, perfect for everyone trying to relive their deepest Rambo or Predator fantasies.
One of Helldivers 2’s most powerful stratagems is broken. Actually, to be more accurate, the stratagem is actively breaking Helldivers 2, and players are officially being warned not to use it until Arrowhead manages to fix it.
For those who haven't been following this story, Helldivers 2 multiplayer originally required a linked PSN account in order to play. The PSN back end was not ready, so the developers turned off the requirement. Recently it came back on and several players were upset because their games stopped working. There was a review bomb and a lot of angry feedback, especially because PSN accounts are not available without a Playstation console in several geographic areas. [Sony posted yesterday] to say that they would no longer be requiring a linked PSN account for Helldivers 2 Multiplayer.
The situation is strange to me because there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason for any real controversy. Sony is making all PC games that they publish on Steam require PSN accounts. That in itself isn't that big a deal - lots of publishers require similar things. EA requires Origin accounts, Ubisoft has their UPlay ecosystem, Activision has Battle.net, Microsoft has XBox Live, and so on and so forth. Helldivers was always supposed to launch with this requirement but they ran into major technical issues at launch and had to disable the requirement (temporarily). I know that Ghost of Tsushima will also require a PSN account for multiplayer.
The second thing with PSN accounts not being allowed in various countries is an issue within Sony itself and has nothing to do with Helldivers. The Helldivers team did what they were contractually obligated to do - require a PSN account to play. Sony's internal PSN team is responsible for which countries are and aren't on the whitelist for account creation via PC. Most game sales are in North America, Western Europe, and Japan/South Korea. There just aren't quite as many players in Uzbekistan or Ukraine. When your customer count in those countries is in the dozens, it really doesn't rank very high on the priority list.
Early on, I think it should have been communicated to players that they would (eventually) need a PSN account to play multiplayer and possibly some other "here's something for your trouble" bonus in game to help provide some value to the player. Now that it's blown up so large, the decision to step it back is probably the right one. I think that, for Ghost of Tsushima PC, the PSN linking should be a requirement for the game from the jump so that people know exactly what they are getting.

Hra se odehrává ve vzdálené budoucnosti, kdy se lidstvo zajímá především o šíření své vize o demokracii a vše ostatní jde zcela stranou. Demokratické myšlení se lidé nesnaží vštípit jen již zmiňovaným broukům, ale taktéž i robotické rase. Ta má ovšem trochu jinou představu o podobě vesmíru a na řadu tak logicky přichází atomové bomby.
Ať už se rozhodnete ze své kosmické lodi vyskočit na plechovky nebo na brouky, tak vězte, že tak můžete učinit až se třemi dalšími hráči. Jakmile přistanete na jedné z řady planet, kterým chcete vštípit své politické názory, tak zjistíte, že Helldivers II jsou intenzivní řežba z pohledu třetí osoby, která klade nejen důraz na taktické myšlení, přesnou mušku, ale také rozumné využívání vašich hraček, jako autonomní samopaly, letecké nálety či útočné drony. Ve hře je totiž tzv. friendly-fire a na místě je tak dostatečná komunikace a sehranost. Nepříjemným nehodám se ale stejně nevyhnete. Tyto „nehody“ ale často působí spíše komicky, než že by se jednalo o stěžejní situace, na kterých by vysel osud vaší mise.
Misí a úkolů je zde relativně hodně. Na každé planetě máte předem dané questy a pokud se vám je podaří úspěšně splnit a následně se bezpečně vrátit do vaší vesmírné kocábky, budete bohatě odměněni. Za medaile a kredity si následně odemykáte odměny v Battle Passu a nové schopnosti. Utrácet můžete i přímo na své lodi. Tyto investice vám zvednou kvalitu vzdušné podpory, která je vám během všech misí poskytována.
A jak se vlastně Helldivers II hraje? Jak jsem již zmínil, jedná se o third-person střílečku pro 4 hráče od studia Arrowhead. Všechny mise začínají tak, že necháte vystřelit z vašeho vesmírného křižníku kempícího na oběžné dráze směrem k povrchu planety. Jakmile vylezete z ocelové kapsle, tak se instantně ocitáte v ohrožení vašeho virtuálního života. Pomocí L1 a správné kombinace šipek si přivoláte zbraně, které jste si navolili před začátkem mise. Stejným způsobem pak přivoláváte raketové nálety a další podporu, kterou vám poskytuje vaše loď, která na vše dohlíží z vrchu. S pomocí vašich kolegů následně plníte rozmanité mise. Odpalování raket, ničení hmyzích hnízd nebo sbírání materiálů na vylepšení lodi jsou jen skromným výběrem z celkového arsenálu. Proti vám se ve valném počtu staví brouci různých druhů a velikostí. Někteří umí plivat kyselinu, jiní jsou menší a mrštní, někteří vypadají jako obrněný tank, další pak jako šestinohý mrakodrap. Podobná rozmanitost je i u robotických nepřátel, jen s tím rozdílem, že souboje s roboty mnohdy připomínají frenetickou laser-show. Jakmile splníte vše co potřebujete, vydáte se na místo vyzvednutí, kde si pro vás přiletí evakuační tým.
Až na nutnost týmové souhry a jasné komunikace působí Helldivers 2 jako celek extrémně přímočaře. Ve hře vlastně nenajdete ani žádnou klasickou kampaň. Prostě jen bráníte naši planetu, Super Earth, před nebezpečím z vesmíru a přitom šíříte vaše politické názory. Nic víc, nic míň. Vývojáři slibují dodat příběhovou kampaň až dodatečně. Prozatím se ale musíme obejít bez jakéhokoliv data a pokusit se hru užívat ve stavu, ve kterém ji vývojáři vypustili ven.
Po dobu mého testování jsem se se hrou mnohdy trápil. Nemohla za to herní náplň, ale servery hry, které nebyly připraveny na extrémní úspěch hry. V době největší krize jsem se více jak den do hry nedostal. A komu se to náhodou povedlo, tak ten měl následně problém s matchmakingem. Tento problém se ale paradoxně týkal jen konzolí PlayStation. Díky postupnému navyšování kapacity severů se hráčům na Steamu tyto problémy převážně vyhýbaly. Není tak divu, že studio si tento úspěch vytrpělo do poslední kapky a kromě slibů o brzké nápravě se vývojáři nechali na sociálních sítích slyšet, že není úplně vhodná chvíle hru kupovat. Svou odvahu ale následně pohřbili nesmyslným 2XP eventem, který krvácející servery opět zaplnil. V době vydání této recenze již vše běží jako po drátkách. Pozdě, ale přece.
Čestný odstavec si bezesporu zaslouží soundtrack hry. Skladba A Cup Of Liber-Tea se mi velmi rychle dostala pod kůži a i přesto, že se nejedná o nikterak originální song, tak velmi přesně vystihuje premisu hry a vše tak do sebe perfektně zapadá. Chytlavá melodie ale není vše, co bude lahodit vaším uším. Sound-designu obecně se dostalo značné péče a i díky tomu působí všechny přestřelky, exploze a skřeky skomírajícího hmyzu velmi uspokojivě a zábavně.
A právě v těchto aspektech hra v mých očích boduje především. Na to, jak moc lineární hra je, tak je až překvapivě zábavná a jakmile hrajete s přáteli a ne bandou náhodných hráčů, tak se Helldivers II jen velmi těžko vypíná a mnohdy tak padne i klasická hláška: „Ještě jednu misi.“ Především kvůli problémům se servery jsme s vydáním recenze příliš nepospíchali a čekali jsme, až bude veškerá neplecha napravena. A to se stalo. Nic vám tak nebrání usednout do křesla a obohatit naši galaxii o špetku demokracie.

Ten minutes into a mission on the planet of Malevelon Creek, my squad and I emerge from a swampy treeline to finally catch sight of our target. This time it's a scientific base, and we're here to destroy it entirely. After clearing the area of enemies, I summon a hellbomb – one of the largest payloads in our arsenal – and manually arm the device.
We quickly move away, making space for the massive explosion that is to come. Yet as we scurry back towards the bushes, I spot a neighbouring facility that could be destroyed with a simple airstrike. The temptation of completing two objectives within twenty seconds proves difficult to resist, and I bring up my stratagem list to input the combination.
As I pull back my arm to throw the beacon, several things happen at once. The hellbomb behind us explodes, triggering a massive shockwave that rocks my screen. This diverts the aim of my throw ever-so-slightly to the left - instead of gracefully arcing through the air towards the robot facility, the beacon bounces off a large rock, drops to the floor, and lands at the feet of my squad. Before we know it, explosions are raining down around us, and we're all swiftly turned into jam by my airstrike.
