Resident Evil Veronica Announced For PS5 With 2027 Release Window

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake has been officially announced at Summer Game Fest after more than two years of rumours, with the survival horror game set to launch in 2027. It’s called Resident Evil Veronica and is coming to PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.

Check out the trailer below.

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake was originally outed by insider Dusk Golem in May 2024 alongside the as-yet unannounced Resident Evil Zero Remake. As you can see from the above trailer, the game has been completely revamped for modern consoles using the RE Engine, although at this point it remains to be seen how Capcom will change things up and what elements they will keep identical to the original version .

Capcom originally released Resident Evil CODE: Veronica in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast and later ported it to PS2 and GameCube. A HD version was released in 2011 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The game takes place in December 1998, around three months after the destruction of Raccoon City, and sees Claire Redfield searching for her brother Chris before being captured by Umbrella. The game is noted for reintroducing Albert Wesker as the primary series villain, and also features Chris playable for the first time since the original game.

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica Remake launches for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in early 2027.

Which faction should you join in Gothic 1 Remake

One of the most important decisions in Gothic 1 Remake is related to the factions, and you can pick one from three different choices. All three factions have their respective strengths and weaknesses, and your decision has an impact on the rest of the gameplay.

But before we get to the picks, let’s understand how the system works.

Gothic 1 Remake faction system explained

There are three factions in Gothic 1 Remake.

  • Old School
  • New School
  • Swamp School

Old School will be the earliest one you encounter, but it’s not compulsory for you to join. Your decision will have three major impact.

  • Your faction decides what quests you’ll complete. This is especially true for the first chapter when we complete the quest where we deliver a message for the Fire Mage boss in Old Camp. I decided that I would look to work for the Old Camp and chose decisions that aligned with it. However, you can pick different. However, certain quests will be lost once you pick a faction. That said, you can still do some quests from the rival factions (they will just be less in number).
  • Promotions you get will depend on your chosen faction. This is because your faction determines your archetype and playstyle. Hence, the promotions you receive will be aligned accordingly with your decision.
  • You get armor specific to your faction. Here’s the list of armor that comes with each faction.
    • Old Faction: Shadow Armor (upgrades to Warder Armor)
    • New Camp: Bandit’s Dress
    • Swamp Camp: Novice Robes

Let’s now figure out which faction is best suited for you.

Which is the best faction to join in Gothic 1 Remake

Unfortunately, all three factions have certain vices. They’re far from being saints, and they somehow appear to co-exist in the Colony. As I mentioned, you’ll sacrifice quests from certain factions and gain more from your chosen one.

Hence, you should pick your faction based on what type of character you want to build.

  • The Old Camp is ideally suited if you would like to go full mage. You can master different magical abilities and enhance their effects with your attacks. The location is also pretty convenient, and this is what I went with (also because I felt lazy). If you wish to go magical with your build, this is your best choice.
  • The New Camp will impart various skills of thievery. You’ll master abilities like lockpicking quickly, allowing you to get extra loot on your adventures. If you dream of becoming a mercenary, you can pick this faction.
  • The Swamp Camp’s earliest introduction in The Old Camp’s arena highlights what it is. The Swamp Camp is essentially like a cult that believes in their one true Sleeper god. While the trainers can teach you some useful skills, you can bypass the restrictions with bribes.

How to complete Snaf’s Recipe quest in Gothic 1 Remake

The Old Camp location in Gothic 1 Remake is a hub of activity, and you can complete the Snaf’s Recipe quest to earn some much-required rewards and experience points. This is one of the easier tasks to complete in the early stage of your adventure.

Let’s find out how to start and complete this quest.

Gothic 1 Remake Snaf’s Recipe quest walkthrough

To begin the quest, you’ll need to speak with Snaf. He is located in the southern part of Old Camp. Continue straight past Dexter in the camp, and you’ll eventually find Snaf by his cauldron. Speak with him, and he will ask you to find him three Meatbugs and five Hellcaps. Not the most delicious of ingredients, but needs must, I suppose.

The quest requires you to find the following items.

  • Three Meatbugs
  • Five Hellcaps

You can find three Meatbugs near the South gate of the Old Camp. It’s near the spot where an NPC usually mines (if it’s during work hours). Just stop the insects and get the meat to add to your inventory. If you stomped the two that roam near the starting mines, your job will be easier.

Hellcaps can grow in the open fields, but they’re easier to find in caves. The easiest way to get the five is via another quest. When you speak with Sly, he will inform you about Nek, who has gone missing. This starts The Vanished Warder quest, and you have to find Nek. You’ll eventually find him in a cave outside the South gate of the compound.

You’ll also find all five Hellcaps in the same cave. Now there are other areas where you might also find Hellcaps, but this is the best spot. You get the right quantity and also finish two different quests simultaneously.

Once done, return to Snaf and provide him with the ingredients. He will then supply you with the Meatbug Ragout dish, and you’ll also unlock its recipe. You will also get 100 XP for your efforts, which is substantial when you’re starting out. Finally, you can now speak with Snaf daily to get free food items that will help you to recover lost health.

How to get a map in Gothic 1 Remake

The world of Gothic 1 Remake is vast, and your first task is to get a map. There are two NPCs that can help you with this task, and you encounter both of them early in the game. However, one of them will sell you the map for a lesser price, so let’s find out how to get to the NPCs.

How to obtain a map in Gothic 1 Remake

Once you have created a new save, follow the main route to reach the Old Camp. This is the first proper settlement where you’ll meet several NPCs. You’ll also find more clues about the mage that you’re looking for here and start new quests.

Head inside through the northern entrance and go past the guard. Tell him that Diego asked you to meet him, and he will allow you to go inside. Reach the entrance of the castle, and take the path that goes right. First, you’ll meet Graham.

Graham in Gothic 1 Remake
Screenshot by Destructoid

Graham will offer you two different maps: one for the Old Camp and another for the Colony. The prices of both maps are different, and this isn’t the best place to get the Colony map (since you’ll find it cheaper elsewhere).

Once you’re done with Graham, head past him. Follow the water trough and continue on the path. Turn left, move straight, and you’ll come across a location with several shops. You’ll find another NPC named Dexter over there. He was easy to find; just look around for the name.

Dexter in Gothic 1 Remake

While Graham sells the Colony map for 44 Ore Nuggets, Dexter will sell the same item for 20 fewer resources. Hence, you should always buy the Colony map from him to save your hard-earned resources. Additionally, you’ll be able to buy regional maps later in the game. These will mark specific locations on the map. Whether you need them or not depends on you.

I advise avoiding spending on the Old Camp map. It’s a small location, and you’ll find all the key spots easily. There’s no need for a map at all to move around the place, so it’s better to save your Ore Nuggets for other things.

Capcom confirms Resident Evil Veronica remake coming next year

As we kick off tonight’s Summer Games Fest showcase, we’ve already gotten one of the most exciting confirmations that’s certainly going to set the tone for the rest of the evening: Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is official and comes out next year.

Capcom revealed a cryptic trailer featuring a female main character entering a strange apartment building and following an old lady, stranger still. The tone is immediately set: oppressive, atmospheric, and weird, which is precisely what is to be expected of Capcom in 2026. The trailer later confirms that this is in fact Code Veronica, though I have to admit I had no idea it was a Resident Evil game until they clearly stated it at the end.

Currently, we do not possess more details or information about the remake, as the show has just started and is currently ongoing, so we’ll update this article with any information we come across as soon as possible.

The release window is set for 2027, as the next year is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most packed years for video games ever.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation announced with three trailers!

The third and  final part of Square Enix’s remake of Final Fantasy VII has been announced as Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

The central theme of game is ‘resolve’, as Cloud and his friends move to the conclusion of the game, a giant meteor hanging above their heads.  The Highwind airship will allow you to travel across the map, and you can jump off with a parachute to any location at any point.  New characters include Vincent Valentine and Sid Highwind, and there’s a new costume armour system called FITS which gives you different boosts and abilities.

The game will launch simultaneously on all platforms, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2, in Spring 2027.

In our 10/10 review for Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tuffcub said, ” How do you remake one of the most beloved video games ever made? Why would you even risk it? It would be like remaking Jaws, Casablanca, or the original Star Wars film. Final Fantasy VII was a sprawling saga spanning eighty hours of memorable characters, lengthy battles, and tearful heartbreak. There is no way Square Enix could do it justice… and yet they have. An utter joy to play from start to finish, packed with memorable scenes, moustache-twirling baddies, and epic battles. The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t just polished, it’s opulent.”

Our review for the next instalment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was equally well received, scoring 9/10 in 2024. “Really the biggest problem you’ll have once the credits roll is knowing that it will be far too many years before we can finish the trilogy,” noted Nic.

Best Gothic 1 Remake graphics settings for no lag and max FPS

Gothic 1 Remake is now available on PC and consoles, and it recreates the classic Valley of the Mines in a modernized way. However, you’ll need to make some tweaks if you’re on PC to get the best possible results. I have already encountered stutters, but thankfully, changing a few settings solved the problem.

Best Gothic 1 Remake graphics settings

Before I dive deep into the settings, here’s my current setup.

  • 32 GB of DDR4 RAM
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB

My system requirements are comfortably over the recommended specifications. However, I still encountered stutters in a few areas. Thankfully, the following settings will help you enjoy the best gameplay. Furthermore, I have focused the settings to ensure that devices on the lower end of the power curve can run Gothic 1 Remake. If your system is strong and meets the recommended settings, chances are that you won’t need to make many changes.

  • Display mode: Fullscreen
  • Resolution: Go with the native resolution of your monitor
  • VSync: Turn this on if you’re suffering stutters. Enabling VSync will limit the FPS, but the results will be smoother.
  • Frame rate limit: 60 FPS is a sweet spot for now. This is an RPG, where you truly don’t need to go above 60 FPS as long as there are no fluctuations.
  • Gamma: 2.2
  • Field of View: 75
  • Motion Blur Intensity: 0 (I hate Motion Blur)
  • Bloom Intensity: 100
  • Depth of Field Intensity: 100
  • Ambient Occlusion Intensity: 100
  • Sharpening Intensity: 100 (Reduce this if you encounter lags)
  • Saturation: Default
  • Contrast: Default
  • Brightness: Default
  • Upscaler: Off (If you’re getting less than sufficient frames, turn this on. This will reduce the visual fidelity to some extent, but the gameplay will improve significantly).
  • Quality Preset: Custom
  • View Distance Quality: Medium
  • Anti-Aliasing Quality: Medium
  • Shadow Quality: Low (spending GPU resources on shadows makes little sense)
  • Reflection Quality: Low (Same logic as Shadow Quality)
  • Post-processing Quality: Medium
  • Texture Quality: Medium
  • Effects Quality: Medium
  • Foliage Quality: Low
  • Shading Quality: Medium
  • Landscape Quality: Low

Resident Evil Veronica Reimagines The Classic Entry In The Series in 2027 on PC and Consoles

A female character with blue eyes is held by a gloved hand in a dimly lit scene from the game Resident Evil Veronica

Following the successful release of Resident Evil Requiem earlier this year, the beloved survival-horror series by CAPCOM will return in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 with Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the classic entry in the series originally released on the SEGA Dreamcast back in 2000. The rumored remake was announced during today's Summer Game Fest showcase just as previously rumored with a deceptive trailer that only showed the modern recreation of Claire Redfield at its very end, alongside the game's name, which will drop "Code" from the original. Unfortunately, a precise […]

Beloved Action RPG Remake Is Out Today on PS Store

Gothic 1 Remake
(Credit: THQ Nordic)

It may be the week of reveals, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an exciting game releasing during the festivities. The PlayStation Store continues to add great games to its digital shelves. That includes the Gothic 1 Remake, a “from the ground up” remake of the classic action RPG.

What is the Gothic 1 Remake?

Developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, the Gothic 1 Remake is a “faithful” remake of the classic action RPG that was originally released in 2001. Players will explore the Valley of the Mines with an enhanced combat system, branching story, and dynamic living world.

Here is a description and trailer of the Gothic 1 Remake, giving PS5 players an idea of what to expect from the Action RPG remake:

“Gothic 1 Remake remains faithful to the original experience, rebuilding the game from the ground up while preserving its distinctive sense of unrestricted exploration and satisfying progression. The dark and gritty world of the Colony is richly detailed and immersive, with NPCs and wildlife following realistic daily routines independent from the player.

“While the core pillars of the game remain intact, the remake enhances the experience with expanded and more detailed questlines, additional NPC routines and reactions, new traversal abilities, and a fully modernized combat system.”

The Gothic 1 Remake for PS5 is available right now on the PS Store. There is only a Standard Edition, and it costs $59.99.

The original Gothic, developed by Piranha Bytes, is a cult classic and was well-received by critics. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 81 based on 14 critic reviews. The PS5 version of the original, titled Gothic Classic, will launch on July 28 for $29.99. However, players who preordered the remake will receive it right now as a free bonus.

Make sure to check out more of the new PS Store releases, as well as the sales we highlight, here.
