However a non-Hollow Knight game from Team Cherry might look, there's a particular through line you can still expect

Right now, Team Cherry's future is pretty unclear. There is some kind of Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC that'll be coming somewhere along the line, but understandably the developer is keeping their cards close to their chest in terms of what's actually next. They certainly do have some ideas on how they would expand Hollow Knight, i.e. by not making any direct sequels, much like how Silksong isn't one. But in a recent interview, Team Cherry spoke (ever so slightly) more openly about their own future and how the thing that might get in their way most is, well, death.

After Soulslikes and Survivors-likes, we seem to be finally getting Hollow Knight-likes

20. Listopad 2025 v 20:06

Platforms in Crowsworn.

Crowsworn, announced during the Xbox Partner Preview show on Nov. 20, is looking strikingly similar to Hollow Knight, from its style to movement to the flashy combat. Though a roguelike more than Souls, the game takes liberal inspiration and might be paving the way for Hollowlikes to come.

Crowsworn combines numerous genres to produce a unique, flashy, and fast-paced 2D side-scrolling experience, obviously taking liberal inspiration from the formula that made Hollow Knight into the phenomenon that it is.

Though we've only seen one trailer, the game immediately struck a chord with every fan of the Hollow Knight series who might have completed Silksong recently and was back to yearning for more after seven years of drought.

From its art style, color palette, lighting, and just about every possible aspect, Crowsworn screams Hollow Knight at every single point of its presentation. Look at this picture and tell me you don't see it.

However, where it appears to diverge sharply is its speed of combat, roguelite elements, and generally a more visceral approach that is far removed from what Hollow Knight has gone for. Guns, blades, and glory are the name of the game in Crowsworn, it appears, and though it bears a striking resemblance to its source of inspiration, the overall gameplay loop seems to be markedly different.

We will have to wait to get our hands on the thing to actually see how dissimilar the game is from Hollow Knight, but one thing remains true: we might be entering an era where merely imitating Metroidvania and Souls elements is not enough. New games must serve as reference points, in turn spawning their own subgenres, which I will now call Hollowlikes. I would've said Silksongs, but I kinda think that's copyrighted.

Either way, Hollow Knight-inspired games are going to rise sharply following the success of Silksong, and it seems Crowsworn is the first of many to open the gates. But it may have stuck too close to the source; we'll see.

If you want to learn what else was shown during today's preview, you can do so here.

Team Cherry says Hollow Knight Silksong pricing was simply “reasonable”

23. Listopad 2025 v 12:26
Team Cherry’s excellent Hollow Knight: Silksong was a steal at $20 with many assuming before its release that it would be priced at a much higher price point. Team Cherry’s co-lead, Ari Gibson, has said in ACMI’s paperback Hollow Knight: Silksong guide, said the team thought that the price point was “reasonable” for most people… Read More »Team Cherry says Hollow Knight Silksong pricing was simply “reasonable”

The Daily Grind: What single-player game would you love to see in an MMORPG?

23. Listopad 2025 v 14:00
I would love to see Hollow Knight: Silksong crossover material in an MMORPG. That’s not the same as saying that I want an MMORPG set in that world; while I wouldn’t say no to that, I don’t think it’s inherently necessary. But a crossover in an online game that lets you dress up in masks and shells […]

Who knows if we'll ever get another Hollow Knight, but if we do, you can expect it to be as standalone as Silksong

Let's get something real clear here right off the bat: I couldn't possibly tell you if Team Cherry are planning to make any more Hollow Knight games. That isn't to say there isn't more Hollow Knight on the way, as Silksong will be getting… something, at some point, in the future. However! Studio heads William Pellen and Ari Gibson have at least floated a hypothetical idea around how the world of Hollow Knight might get bigger.
