I didn't expect to find myself returning to PUBG: Battlegrounds at the start of 2026, although perhaps it shouldn't be too surprising given that you'll still find the battle royale game consistently ahead of even new powerhouse Arc Raiders on the Steam player charts. However, the new Erangel: Subzero variant of its most iconic map was an ironically warm reminder that it still has the chops to stand up to the latest contenders on the block. Now, PUBG update 39.2 makes it an even more compelling option, ramping up the risk/reward balance with a unique special zone.

PUBG: Blindspot, the PUBG spin-off previously dubbed Project Arc, is set to take the early access plunge on February 5th, 2026. In case you've understadably started wondering if this is the extraction shooter which prompted my last bit of newsing about a PUBG spin-off, it isn't. That's PUBG: Black Budget, PUBG: Blindspot's all about fights in which you're staring at the tops of folks' heads.
Most anticipated? Oh reader, you gentle, innocent child. Hark at you, ambling in here with supple joints, eyes clear as springwater, and the scent of hope in your hair. I have grown old, dear reader. I no longer feel this emotion called "anticipation", anymore than I remember the taste of strawberries in the Shire. Years of waiting for another Legacy of Kain game have broken my spirit. My heart is a sponge of sorrow. My beard coils round my ankles like a listless cat. All has become grey.

As if the mania around extraction shooters wasn't already big enough, Krafton has just waded in as well. A Steam page and X account have just gone live for PUBG Black Budget, an extraction spinoff for one of the biggest and best multiplayer games around that's been teased in financial reports and interviews for quite some time. While we've waited a while to see it get properly revealed, it won't be an age until you get the chance to play it. Krafton confirms that alpha playtests will be arriving next month, and best of all, they won't be under NDA either.

Is this what life is now? Witnessing massive, incredibly successful companies turning to AI to get advice on legal proceedings? You don't need to pinch me, I've already done it, and this world is real. The company in question here is Subnautica 2 publisher Krafton, who you might remember are being sued by three ex-leads of the game; developer of the game Unknown Worlds are (technically) also suing this trio of developers in kind. This all came about because Krafton delayed Subnautica 2, a decision that meant Unknown Worlds wouldn't get a $250 million bonus. And it seems that the publisher even asked ever-reliable ChatGPT for advice on how they could avoid doing just that.

UPDATE 4.07pm: Krafton has provided the following comment to Eurogamer regarding the claims about the recent pre-brief made by Unknown Worlds' former leadership:
