What we've been playing - "Have you ever downloaded a game on Steam just to boot it up and delete it five minutes later?"

Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little about the games we've been playing. This week, Bertie and Connor break the rules slightly, but it's okay because Bertie organises What We've Been Playing and Connor regularly contributes to it, so they both get a pass. Elsewhere, believes again that another game has been tailormade for them - I'm beginning to sense a pattern - and Hitman fan Kelsey rolls credits on Bond and gets a bit emotional.

Did this week's PlayStation State of Play host the largest number of games running on PS5 Pro? Not technically, but close

For a while after it launched, I never felt like the PlayStation 5 Pro ever actually came out. You could argue Sony hasn't been promoting it well. The initial Ghost of Yotei reveal took place in a September 2024 State of Play, yet its trailer didn't include Pro footage, and the accompanying PS Blog post makes no mention of whether or not the game would support it. At that point, the Pro was mere days old - but you'd think the first major first-party title to be announced after the Pro's reveal would, you know, reference it?

Resident Evil Requiem producer suggests the legendary horror series could finally visit Japan in the future - "I think every member [of the team] has given it some thought"

Despite coming from a Japanese studio, the Resident Evil series has never dipped its toe into Japan, at least in terms of a game's setting. However, Resident Evil Requiem's producer thinks every member of Capcom's development team has at the very least considered the idea, and the series could well go there in the future.

The pure and scattered beauty of modern Zelda

I was in the gift shop of a small art gallery the other day when I bought a postcard depicting a bunch of different keys. The postcard turned out to be a reproduction from the six-volume dictionary and encyclopedia Larousse du XXe siècle (me neither) and the keys come in a gorgeous range of shapes and sizes. The Roman key is broad and boot-shaped. The Merovingian looks like part of a crank.

The director of the new Resident Evil movie was allowed to do "whatever he wanted" with the IP following Weapons' success

The Resident Evil franchise is the bad kind of nightmare when it comes to adaptations. The movie series kickstarted by Paul W.S. Anderson back in 2002 found tonnes of success, but it's hard to suggest it was quality blockbuster filmmaking. Then came an even worse (despite all the reverence for the source material) movie in 2021, that failed to create a new continuity. And let's not talk about Netflix's 2022 series... Now, in 2026, we're waiting to see whether Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger can right this ship.

What we've been playing - "I think my brain might be cooked"

Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little about the games we've been playing. This week, Bertie plays a classic but finds himself getting a bit bored; Marie adopts a black cat called Salem; Tom can't get out of the menus; Victoria makes a young child cry; Dom Platinums a game and feels very smug about it; and Connor finds an inventive way to play two MMOs at once.

Reanimal doesn't exactly disprove co-op is the enemy of horror but it shows there's a place for human connection too

Silence. Two crouched shapes silhouetted in the moonlight, breath held tight as something stirs. A torch beam slices through the shadows; strange grasping limbs slide into view; tension mounts, hearts pound, and then suddenly a voice cuts in, "Hang on a minute, I'm just gonna run to the loo."
