ESAC Reveals Top Selling Games In Canada in 2025, With Many Made in Canada

20. Únor 2026 v 19:00
Battlefield 6 (PS5) Review

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) has officially released its listings for the top-selling games in Canada in 2025.

The full list of 20 games included in the rankings is surprisingly diverse, with many genres included. In fact, four of the top six best sellers are made—at least in part—right here in Canada. Even though other games like the legendary Grand Theft Auto V and the recently released Borderlands 4 made it onto the list, Canada still holds the top two ranking spots. So let’s get into some Canadian highlights listed in the rankings.

Sitting at number one in the whole country is Battlefield 6, which some people probably did not know was made partly in Canada. Partly meaning that Battlefield 6 was a four studio conjunction of production with Motive Studio out of Montreal, tagging into the design team to work on story elements, along with development in general. Along with Motive, there was also DICE out of Stockholm, Criterion Games located in Guildford, UK, and Ripple Effect Studio from Los Angeles. All of these Studios worked together to develop the newest game in the franchise’s long history under the “Battlefield Studios” banner.

Borderlands 4 (PC) Review

Moving one rank down to number two is NHL 26, which was developed exclusively by EA Vancouver. EA Vancouver is also responsible for numerous other hit games included under the EA Sports branding. FIFA, NBA Live, NCAA March Madness, and the exquisite SSX were all made by EA Vancouver, and they even helped Konami develop ports of the original Castlevania for the Commodore 64 and MS-DOS operating systems.

Without further ado, here is the full list of every top-selling game in Canada for 2025 according to ESAC.

  1. Donkey Kong Bananza, Nintendo
  2. Grand Theft Auto V, Take 2 Interactive
  3. Red Dead Redemption II, Take 2 Interactive
  4. Civilization VII, Take 2 Interactive
  5. Elden Ring: Nightreign, Bandai Namco
  6. Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft
  7. Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Nintendo
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Microsoft (Canadian)
  9. Minecraft, Multiple Manufacturers
  10. Split Fiction, Electronic Arts
  11. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Plaion
  12. Ghost of Yotei, Sony
  13. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered, Microsoft
  14. NBA 2K26, Take 2 Interactive
  15. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Microsoft (Canadian)
  16. EA Sports FC 25, Electronic Arts (Canadian)
  17. Borderlands 4, Take 2 Interactive
  18. Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom USA
  19. NHL 26, Electronic Arts (Canadian)
  20.  Battlefield 6, Electronic Arts (Canadian)

Every one of these games has its own merit to be included, and most of them can be bought for a steal right now. For instance, Grand Theft Auto V is only $26.86 CAD on the PlayStation Store right now, and Monster Hunter Wilds currently has a sale on Steam, discounting it to just under $50. The Canadian gaming industry contributes 5.5 billion dollars to the Canadian GDP, so make sure to go sit on your couch and contribute to the economy.

Battlefield 6 sets out to rally flagging player numbers with a big dose of hallucinatory gas

Battlefield 6’s Season 2 thunders onto PC today, a three-month festival of Battlefoolery that begins with a new map, Contaminated, new modes for the Redsec battle royale component, a dinky yet deadly helicopter, and some new guns and gadgets. The EA shooter’s Steam playerbase has slumped following its chart-topping release last year, but don’t worry, ye Battlefaithful, because Season 2 has officially recaptured my interest by filling my lungs with psychoactive vapours.

In new limited-time mode VL-7 Strike, available in regular multiplayer and Redsec, you must wear a gas mask and replenish its filters to avoid falling victim to clouds of funky fumes. Idiot! Why would you want to avoid falling victim to clouds of funky fumes. It’s got to be more intriguing than flipping the objective yet again.

Massively Overthinking: If you could delete one class or skill from your favorite MMORPG…

20. Únor 2026 v 01:00
This week’s Massively Overthinking is inspired by a tweet I saw from SMITE, of all games, where the Hi-Rez devs asked players to propose one god to delete from the game. Obviously, this is not a serious proposition, but in the aggregate, the answers can kinda show a trend in what people are tired of, […]

Monster Hunter rival Wild Hearts might have been left to die, yet I can't help but love it

22. Únor 2026 v 17:00

Over the past few weeks, I've finally been playing Wild Hearts. Built by Koei Tecmo's Omega Force (the team behind the Warriors series) and published by EA, it showed a lot of promise as a contender to the might of Monster Hunter. Its launch in February 2023, however, was plagued with performance woes eclipsing even the early problems faced by Monster Hunter Wilds. Three years on, I'm giving it a proper chance, and while I would recommend it to hunting enthusiasts, the whole experience has only made me more sad about the way it was seemingly left adrift.

Here's the real story of the Apex Legends character that never was, and how he was born from "pure frustration"

17. Únor 2026 v 11:00

Apex Legends' early days were a simpler time. There was a smaller roster of characters, fewer weapons, and it didn't seem like people had 'solved' the meta in quite the same way they have now. The Wingman took heavy ammo and Skull Town was the hottest drop - like I say, life was simple. However, it all changed in Season 4, when Respawn announced the next legend, Forge, and promptly killed him off. It was a move that fans didn't see coming, and an ambitious piece of storytelling that hasn't been seen before or replicated since by any major live-service game.

As Anthem breathes its last, I still find myself mourning just how close it came to being the BioWare game of my dreams

10. Leden 2026 v 17:45

The end of this week spells the final gasp for BioWare's Anthem. I suspect most people won't think too much about it - that's why, almost seven years after it first launched and five since EA pulled the plug on development, the Anthem servers are due to be shut off on Monday January 12. But I can't help feeling a real pang of sadness; Anthem as it launched wasn't the game it needed to be, and ultimately it never got there. But for me, it was so close that I could taste it - and now all that's left are the bitter memories of my favorite mech RPG that never quite was.

Apex Legends hackers wrestle control of characters from other players, but Respawn urges that it's under control

10. Leden 2026 v 13:10

Decided to kick off your weekend with a couple of rounds of Apex Legends and a couple of cold brewskis? Well, if you ended up heading to bed early when your Ballistic lived up to his name by slamming every bullet you own into a cliff face without your involvement, don't go blaming the ol' liquid courage. Turns out someone has managed to find a way to "control the inputs of another player remotely," says Respawn Entertainment. While the studio says it was able to curb the issue within a few hours, it's never a good thing for the reputation of one of the best FPS games with a huge competitive following.

Apex Legends' latest update adds fan favorite Titanfall mechanic, but there's a catch

6. Leden 2026 v 15:12

Have you ever wanted an Apex Legends x SSX crossover? Me neither. Who would ever come up with a concept like that? Respawn, apparently. But I've seen Lifeline snowboarding across World's Edge, there's nothing I want to do more than pop Misty 900 no-scope headshot from across the map. With the addition of pseudo-wall running and buffs for some fan favorite characters on the cards, too, there's only one question left on my lips: where's the snow?

Last Chance to Play Controversial PS4 RPG Before It Disappears

9. Leden 2026 v 13:48
PS5 PS4 RPG Anthem disappearing for good

It’s almost time to say goodbye to a divisive BioWare PS4 action RPG (playable on PS5) as it prepares to shut down for good. Frankly, we’re surprised that Anthem stayed live for seven years despite its development being canceled five years ago, but here we are.

PS4, PS5 users can play doomed BioWare RPG Anthem until January 12, 2026

PS5 and PS4 players are reminded that they have until Monday, January 12, 2026 to enjoy Anthem and/or mop up those trophies. PlayStation LifeStyle’s own Tyler Treese managed to pop the Platinum trophy just in time. Don’t miss out on your final opportunity this weekend to earn that rare Platinum!

Anthem was a departure for BioWare that ultimately led the studio down a dark path, but much of the blame for this live service disaster fell on publisher Electronic Arts. The company infamously decided that games-as-a-service was the way to go, and gutted single-player projects along the way.

Anthem was a critical and commercial failure, and at one point, the game’s discs were being sold for pennies. For its part, EA acknowledged the misfire, but not before Anthem’s troubles took their toll on BioWare.

The PlayStation Store‘s Holiday Sale continues on, bringing great prices to some of the best PS4 and PS5 games the digital storefront has to offer. That includes this action-adventure game based on one of the most popular media franchises ever created.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is 85% off on the PS Store

Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition is currently 85% off on the PS Store. That brings its usual price of $49.99 down to just $7.49. PlayStation players who wish to take advantage of this offer should act fast. The deal ends on January 22 at 2:59 a.m. ET.

Here is a description and trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, giving PS4 and PS5 players an idea of what to expect from the game:

“A galaxy-spanning adventure awaits in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a 3rd person action-adventure title from Respawn Entertainment. An abandoned Padawan must complete his training, develop new powerful Force abilities, and master the art of the lightsaber – all while staying one step ahead of the Empire.”

Here is everything included in the Star Wars Jedi: Deluxe Edition:

  • The Crimson BD-1 skin
  • The Crimson Mantis skin
  • Digital Art Book
  • “Director’s Cut” behind-the-scenes videos, featuring over 90 minutes of footage from the making of the game.

When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was originally released for the PS4, it was met with decent review scores. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it received an average score of 79 across 70 critic reviews. This was mostly due to technical issues that plagued the game well after launch. However, it seems some of those issues have been ironed out, and it is now in a decently playable state. In our review, we gave it a 9 out of 10.

“Without question, this is exactly the kickstart that Star Wars has been missing for far too long,” reads our review. “There’s no need to consult Yoda, Fallen Order absolutely deserves to appear in your immediate future.”

As The Sims Project Rene switches to being "mobile-first," EA vaguely tease the series' "next evolution"

I think as long as you make a new year's update post before the incredibly arbitrary date of January 13th, you're still able to do so without me thinking "come on, it's almost February", which is exactly what EA did with their new years Sims update post. Perhaps reassuringly, after word came last year of EA's concerning acquisition, the post opens by doubling down on what the team has previously said regarding staying committed to their values (those values including inclusivity is welcome though I wish they'd be more explicit about who is being included). But the post also, sort of, goes into what's next for the series.

If you’re an RPG fan, you  owe it to yourself to play Inquisition, and somehow, I don’t think you’ll regret it.”
