Just when Geoff Keighley had started to fade from your memory, he comes rubber-banding back with a vengeance - snap! It's Gamescom week and it kicks off with Opening Night Live this evening from 7pm UK time (other Opening Night Live timings here). A pre-show with additional announcements will begin at 6.30pm UK. We'll be watching and reporting on it live, as always, right here, so you can either keep abreast of announcements while you do something else, or you can join in with your thoughtful and amusing comments. Please keep us company. Please.

What do we expect to see today? Well, probably Geoff Keighley, but also the new Indiana Jones game, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dune Awakening. We're also expecting Little Nightmares creator Tarsier to unveil its new project, which could be exciting. On top of that: Diablo 4 expansion Vessel of Hatred, Civilization 7, hero shooter Marvel Rivals, Lost Records (the project made by the creators of Life is Strange), Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (which was recently delayed), and Black Ops 6. Keighley's best pal Hideo Kojima has also been tweeting enigmatic silhouetted pictures of actors who are presumably playing roles in Death Stranding 2.

And before you ask, "Yes, there will be new game announcements," Keighley said on X.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gets New Trailer Revealing New Monsters

During the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live livestream, Capcom released the third official trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. The trailer shows off both gameplay segments and cutscenes, cooking, as well as new monsters. This includes the  spider-like monster known as Lala Barina and the region’s “apex predator”. Monster Hunter Wilds will launch sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

The full details via Capcom:

The latest footage for the highly anticipated action RPG showcased the Scarlet Forest and a spider-like monster known as Lala Barina, who patrols this lush woodland. Capcom also presented the first extended look at a region’s apex monster and explored exciting new gameplay details, including how to clash with larger-than-life foes head-on, hunt as a group even in single player, and enjoy unprecedented freedom in the seamless world of the Forbidden Lands.

The next evolution in the award-winning Monster Hunter series is gearing up for a simultaneous worldwide release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam with cross-play support.

New Hunting Ground – The Scarlet Forest, a newly revealed locale in the Forbidden Lands, is a lush setting with towering greenery contrasted by waters dyed a crimson hue. Like the other ecosystems in Monster Hunter Wilds, the Scarlet Forest is a dynamic environment that undergoes periods of Plenty, Inclemency, and Fallow that transform the landscape and wildlife residing within it.

New Monster – One creature that calls the Scarlet Forest home is Lala Barina. Part of the Temnoceran class of monsters rarely seen in the series, the Lala Barina possesses sharp, spindly limbs and can unfurl its thorax into a massive, rose-like form that is as treacherous as it is beautiful.

Apex Spotlight – Each region in Monster Hunter Wilds is ruled by an apex monster. Downstream from the Scarlet Forest in the previously revealed Windward Plains, a monster known as Rey Dau reigns supreme. Initially glimpsed at Summer Game Fest, the Flying Wyvern was unveiled today in its full glory. The apex predator of the Windward Plains is adapted to the harsh conditions of the Sandtides that transform its dusty grassland and can unleash destructive electrical strikes that pose a threat to even the most experienced hunters.

Support Hunters – Whether playing solo or online, Support Hunters can fill openings in players’ hunting parties. These helpful NPCs include Olivia, a hammer-wielding member of the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, who will also play a key role in the story along with her elite Palico, Athos.

More Moves – In addition to new allies, hunters can also engage with adversaries in fresh ways. These include the Power Clash, where blocking certain attacks can lock hunters into a physical struggle, and Offset Attacks, where a well-timed hit can interrupt a monster. Succeeding with these new abilities can knock monsters off balance to provide critical openings or trigger powerful special attacks.

Windsong Village – The latest trailer also introduced Kunafa, a settlement hunters will visit in the Windward Plains. One of multiple communities in the Forbidden Lands, this village has existed here for generations and possesses its own unique culture. Shaped by its surroundings and local wildlife, Kunafa raises livestock for cheese production and is also home to Seikrets, the trusty mounts hunters will soon discover to be indispensable companions when exploring the wilds.

Seamless Exploration – When away from base camp, hunters can embark on expeditions with a number of objectives in mind. Quests can begin by targeting a monster in the area using their map or simply by striking one when out in the field. Players can also prepare for their next hunt without returning to base by using their portable BBQ grill for a stat boost or by taking a rest at a Pop-up Camp. These forward operating bases are convenient spots to manage items and equipment, serve as return points after fainting, and can be used as fast-travel destinations.

Capcom has shared a good long look at Monster Hunter Wilds for Gamescom Opening Night Live, featuring plenty of big beastie battling. Monster Hunter Wilds is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it’s coming out in 2025.

The third trailer for the game revealed the new Scarlet Forest locale, introduced us to battles with the Lala Barina, as well as the apex predator, the Rey Dau. Oh, and of course there was some new ways to cook and camp on show. Everybody loves cooking in games.

Capcom recently ran through the gamut of weapons and abilities that you’ll have available to you with a series of short and pithy individual video trailers – see the first of those here.

Players will have access to new gadgets and companions like the Seikret, a new creature that you can mount and ride across the open world. The Seikret can also automatically follow the trail to get you to the target monster, and give you time to heal, sharpen your weapons and grab useful items and materials that you meander past. It also has a holster to let you swap between primary and secondary weapons.

Then there’s the Slinger, which is standard gear for hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds and will replace the Wirebug from Monster Hunter Rise. It can shoot out ammo gathered in the environment, and can grapple to draw in distant items (even while riding the Seikret), or interact with certain parts of the environment.

And you have Focus Mode, a new mechanic and combat technique, letting you aim your attacks and guards more precisely. They will now go in the direction the camera is facing, giving you more manual control. Focus Mode will highlight wounds on monsters, which you’ll then want to directly target to deal extra damage. It also enables Focus Strikes, which are particular special attacks.

Behold the reveal of a new locale submerged in scarlet colored water, new characters pivotal to the story, and of course, ferocious new monsters, all part of our 3rd trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. We’re excited to share this first breakdown of the details below, straight to all our hunters on PlayStation.

Watch the brand-new trailer and read on to learn more about the Forbidden Lands, the inhabitants of hunters’ base camp in the Windward Plains, as well as the mysterious monster that stirred up a storm in our previous trailer.

Monster Hunter Wilds: all the news from Gamescom Opening Night Live

Step into the Scarlet Forest and stand against a new foe

Together with members of the Research Commission, we step into a new locale in the Forbidden Lands and come face to face with the new large monster that calls it home. This new spider-like monster is part of the rare Temnoceran classification of monsters, which have been few and far between throughout the series.

The Scarlet Forest

Follow the river from the Windward Plains to enter the verdant Scarlet Forest, lush with tall trees and abundant water. This isn’t your ordinary forest, however. As the name suggests, the towering greenery above is offset by water colored with a deep red hue.

Lala Barina

New to Monster Hunter Wilds is the Temnoceran Lala Barina, which inhabits the Scarlet Forest. Normally covered in white fur, Lala Barina can unfold its thorax at will, revealing a dazzling yet dangerous blooming rose appearance.

Massive, ever-changing environments

The vast and dynamic environments of Monster Hunter Wilds can radically change on the fly. During the harsh Fallow period, hungry predators roam the diminished land for food, resulting in more aggressive and dangerous herds of monsters.

The Fallow period is typically followed by a locale’s Inclemency: a harsh ecological event which may drastically alter the ecosystem altogether. Expect to encounter the area’s dangerous apex monster during Inclemency. In the Windward Plains, the specific Inclemency is a great rolling sandstorm with thunder known as the Sandtide.

A semblance of harmony returns to the land following the end of Inclemency with the Plenty period, where the land teems with life once again.

Expect the unexpected in the dynamic locales of Monster Hunter Wilds, where no two hunts are ever the same.

Fallow period of the “Windward Plains”

In the “Windward plains,” an unusual Inclemency occurs, with thunderous Sandtides

The Plenty period of the “Windward Plains”

A Thunderous Apex Reveal

In each locale in Monster Hunter Wilds, apex monsters reign at the top of the ecosystem.

Rey Dau

While only briefly sighted in our previous trailer, the mysterious monster Rey Dau is no longer a flash of lighting, now appearing in full form. This flying wyvern reigns as the apex monster of the Windward Plains.

Rey Dau most often appears during the Sandtide Inclemency in the Windward Plains and is fully adapted to its harsh weather conditions. Accompanied by large-scale lightning strikes, Rey Dau possess a mastery of the elements by unleashing earth-shattering electrical discharge attacks of its own.

Beware its spectacular aerial dance as it takes to the sky to deliver destruction from above.

More new faces join the Forbidden Lands Research Commission

Olivia

Meet Olivia, a hammer-wielding member of the Hunter’s Guild who joins the Research Commission. She previously served the Guild by taking on special missions, and now joins the hunter and their crew into the Forbidden Lands.

If summoned, Olivia can also assist as a Support Hunter during quests.

Athos

Olivia is joined by her trusty long-haired Palico, Athos. Having accompanied her through many missions, this Palico is considered elite amongst its peers.

Hunt in a group, even in single-player

Like previous games in the Monster Hunters series, you’ll be able to fire off an SOS flare to request aid from up to 3 other hunters online.

However, if you’re looking to hunt in a group while playing in single-player, the new Support Hunter system is may be just what you’re looking for. New to Monster Hunter Wilds, you can now call-in aid from NPC Support Hunters while playing in single-player.

Support Hunter

SOS flare settings can be customized to be either “player only” or “support hunter” only, as well as the number of players in multiplayer. NPC support hunters can also join if no players have answered your SOS flare after a certain amount of time.

The Base Camp: your home away from home

Base Camp of the Windward Plains

The Base Camp of the Windward Plains serves as your base of operations. Prepare for hunts by visiting the smithy for new weapons and armor, buy items, prepare food, and more. At the base camp, you can communicate with members of the research commission.

Kunafa, Windsong Village

Areas in the Forbidden Lands contain established settlements inhabited by the local population for generations. Experience their culture and community that has been greatly shaped by their environment.

The Windsong Village, Kunafa, is one such settlement in the Windward Plains. The village is known as the home of the Seikret and is also renowned for the cheese produced by the milk of their livestock.

We hope you look forward to the interesting interactions between the members of the Research Commission and the villagers.

Explore and hunt in new ways

Larger and more dynamic locales mean new ways to hunt. Embark on Expeditions in Monster Hunter Wilds with multiple objectives in mind. Hunt seamlessly by targeting monsters on the field and attacking them to start a new quest. Keep in mind that some monsters cannot be set as targets during specific story progression situations.

Meals

Tasty food is a must in every Monster Hunter game, and Monster Hunter Wilds takes things to new heights by allowing you to cook anywhere, without returning to camp. Cook and eat delicious food while in the field by using a Portable BBQ Grill, increasing your strength and stats temporarily.

Portable BBQ Grills can also still be used to grill meat. Get your grill timing right to cook a well-done steak that will increase your maximum stamina and restore your health and stamina.

Pop-up camps

Keep an eye out in the field for places where you can set a Pop-up camp. A limited number of these camps can be created in fixed locations throughout the vast locales, allowing you to fast travel, manage your items and equipment, start new quests, return after fainting.

An Evolved Hunt

Monster Hunter Wilds retains the signature feel of the hunt, challenging hunters to master a wide variety of unique weapons and use everything at their disposal to achieve victory. Whether it’s taking advantage of the terrain, weather, endemic life, or items in your kit, every advantage is key while in a hunt. Monster Hunter Wilds further layers onto the core hunting mechanics with all new ones.

Power Clash

Clash in an intense power struggle when guarding against certain monster attacks. Go all out and push the monster back to make it stagger, then close in for a powerful follow-up attack.

Offset Attack (*available for some weapon types only)

When your attack clashes with a monster’s attack at the same time while using certain weapon types, an Offset Attack can occur. The attack will send the monster reeling, allowing you to follow up with a unique attack.

Be sure to visit the official Monster Hunter Wilds website to catch up on our videos summarizing the new Focus Mode, as well as our Weapon Overviews for all 14 types.

We hope you’ve enjoyed all the Monster Hunter Wilds details we’ve revealed today! Before we go, we’ve got two more details to touch on.

Your Palico is a dedicated partner that will support you in your hunt in various ways, from attacking to recovering your health, and more! Stay tuned in the future to learn more about their unique support behaviors.

It wouldn’t be a Monster Hunter game without lovingly crafted cooking scenes! The team has gone the extra mile to present food with as detailed and mouthwatering presentation as possible to make everyone say “So tasty!” We hope touches like these, alongside the rich world, story, monsters, and action show the level of detail and care being put into the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for global release on PS5 in 2025! Be on the lookout for more news to come.

Latest Trailer

The latest Monster Hunter Wilds trailer, “The Hunter’s Journey,” gave Summer Game Fest live stream viewers a deeper look at the Hunter’s foray into the Forbidden Lands, including the colorful characters and a mysterious crescent-shaped mountain players will encounter as story moments seamlessly blend into gameplay. As the hunter delves deeper into unknown territory, local wildlife including the treacherous new Balahara Leviathan monster demonstrated how hunters must adapt and harness new techniques to coexist in the Windward Plains region’s volatile conditions. In the ferocious lightning storms that herald a change between the harsh dry season and abundant monsoon season, an even greater threat was glimpsed bolting behind the billowing sand clouds.

Cross-Play and Next Trailer

Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto joined Geoff Keighley on stage to confirm Monster Hunter Wilds will support crossplay across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Please visit the official site for more information. Tsujimoto also notified fans eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated title’s 2025 release that Capcom will debut its next trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and Monster Hunter Wilds will be playable for the first time on the Gamescom 2024 show floor.

The Wild Beauty of the Windward Plains

While traversing the sandy dunes of the Windward Plains, hunters and local wildlife alike must be cautious of falling victim to the quicksand traps of the newly revealed Balahara. The Forbidden Lands play host to multiple packs of large monsters such as the Balahara, who can be seen in the trailer tracking and overwhelming the previously announced Doshaguma. These Leviathans secrete mucus along their serpentine bodies to deftly maneuver through the earth, hurl attacks at their foes, and create pitfall traps capable of shifting the sands of battle in their favor. As these formidable monsters seek to scrape out a niche within this harsh ecosystem, territorial disputes with other large monsters can erupt at a moment’s notice. Hidden within the region’s frequent sandstorms, a mysterious apex predator lurks, waiting to shock its prey with an electric fury.

A Seamless World of Extremes

Monster Hunter Wilds seamlessly flows from story sequences to gameplay to tell the dynamic and engrossing story of the hunter leading the Forbidden Lands Research Commission as they explore vibrant ecosystems filled with monsters and extreme environments. After stepping off their ship headed for the Windward Plains, hunters begin to unravel the many mysteries contained within Forbidden Lands, such as the massive crescent-shaped mountain dominating the landscape. That journey will compel players to team up with other Hunters to discover the relationship between this world and the people who inhabit it, standing shoulder to shoulder against new and fearsome foes.

Playable at Gamescom 2024

More information regarding Monster Hunter Wilds will be revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, alongside the title’s first playable demo on the Gamescom 2024 show floor.

Capcom has released a trio of short explainer videos for Monster Hunter Wilds, the next game in the hit monster hunting series, showcasing both core gameplay fundamentals for the Seikret and Slinger, as well as the new Focus Mode.

Let’s start with the basic mechanics:

This video digs into the absolute basics, such as how hunter have both sheathed and drawn weapon states, with the former allowing faster movement and the use of items. It also shows off the Seikret, a new creature that you can mount and ride across the open world.

Pretty handy!

Focus Mode is a new mechanic and combat technique, letting you aim your attacks and guards more precisely. They will now go in the direction the camera is facing, giving you more manual control. Focus Mode will highlight wounds on monsters, which you’ll then want to directly target to deal extra damage. It also enables Focus Strikes, which are particular special attacks.

And finally, there’s a look at the Great Sword, one of the many weapons that will feature in Monster Hunter Wilds. A series staple, this is at the slower, heavier end of the scale, but the weapon overview video shows how it can be used with hit-and-run tactics, can guard, and then how Focus Mode can deal massive damage.

Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025. With two big trailers for the game shown so far – see them here and here – the next is expected to be released during Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2024 later this month.

Monster Hunter Wilds might not be out until next year, but Capcom has just given the hype handle a tiny tweak with the release of three new videos detailing some of the mechanial additions and refinements players can expect when this latest series entry shows up in 2025.

Video number one, titled Basic Mechanics Overview, whizzes through some of the most fundamental aspects of Monster Hunter gameplay before introducing Wilds' new bird-like dino-mount, the Seikret. This (alas) replaces Monster Hunter Rise's awesome dog-like Canyne, serving as a new way to speed about the place.

The Seikret can automatically guide Hunters directly to their target if desired, and players are free to gather items from the environment, drink potions to recover their health, sharpen their blade, or switch between primary and secondary weapons ready for battle while in the saddle. The returning Slinger has also had a bit of an upgrade in Monster Hunter Wilds; as well as being able to launch different ammo types found around the map, it can gather items from a distance, and yank loose bits of scenery (rock, for instance) onto monsters' heads.

Monster Hunter Wilds Greatsword

Capcom started releasing overview videos showing off the new features and returning weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. The first two to drop include a look at how the Greatsword will play in this entry alongside a video on the new Focus Mode mechanic.

The Monster Hunter Wilds trailer about Focus Mode outlines its use as a precision tool for hunters looking to target the weak spots that emerge as you strike the same monster part repeatedly. It locks the player character onto the monster to make aiming and guarding easier. It also highlights weak spots and enables special Focus Strikes, which appear unique to different weapons.

You can see the video on Focus Mode here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v3lnXyNFhI

While Focus Mode is an entirely new addition, the Greatsword is a returning weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds. The trailer goes over the traditional big, but slow, style of the sword that is able to knock monsters out of their attack animations if timed right. However, the video also shows an increased focus on guarding and a possible new counter attack, as well as how the special Focus Strike can target multiple weak spots with a lengthy slash.

You can watch the Monster Hunter Wilds Greatsword Overview video below:

In July 2024, Capcom and Urakita celebrated Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary by unveiling wooden tankards based on those seen in the game. In June 2024, Capcom released a new trailer for Wilds that featured a winding, snake-like monster called the Balahara.

Monster Hunter Wilds is expected to launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2025.

Back in 2018, Monster Hunter World’s immediate success propelled the game, and the Monster Hunter franchise, into the global spotlight. Its lush maps, deep combat, and memorable monsters helped it become one of Capcom’s most successful projects ever. Today, millions of players now eagerly await 2025’s follow-up, Monster Hunter Wilds.

New footage from State of Play and Summer Game Fest has given players lots to dissect, from new monsters and abilities to harsh, dynamic weather. But a recent hands-off presentation during Summer Game Fest allowed me to see live gameplay, and crucially how the game’s new features impact the experience.

Monster Hunter Wilds interview: How Capcom is evolving its apex franchise

In just those 30 minutes of demo gameplay, I saw several things that got me stoked for Wilds. The new map is much more detailed, particularly regarding verticality. Some maps in World were pretty dense and could overlap or even turn back on themselves. Perfect for a monster’s den, but sometimes confusing for players. This time around, between the map and new UI elements that tell you which direction the target monster is (and how far away they are), it’s much easier to keep track of your targets.

The target monster was the Doshaguma, new to Monster Hunter Wilds. In Wilds, players can select a monster on their map and begin a quest by engaging that monster in combat out in the field (Capcom did not confirm other ways players can begin quests, or other quest types in the game). Upon that first hit, an incredible piece of music swells to usher in the quest with full orchestral might and a driving, dramatic sense of conflict. As the hunt goes on, the sand leviathan Balahara appears with a deep pit that pulled Doshaguma down. They brawl in a classic Turf War scrap, with smaller monsters scurrying all around. Chaotic and intense, and about to escalate even further.

Not long into the battle, an imposing wall of dust and sand forms on the horizon. It soon blankets the area with a blue/black darkness, illuminated by stray lightning strikes. These weather events change which monsters may appear on the map, including a mysterious new Apex creature that fires lightning right out of its head.

Immediately following the demo, I was able to speak with the game’s leadership trio for more on what I just saw: Series Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, Director Yuya Tokuda, and Art Director/Executive Director Kaname Fujioka.

PlayStation Blog: Monster Hunter World was a huge success when it launched in 2018. How did its unprecedented success inform your approach to Monster Hunter Wilds?

Ryozo Tsujimoto: What we did for World, both the base game and the expansion, really impacted Monster Hunter Wilds. Our approach to keeping players continuously interested in World helped us learn what players wanted to see in the future. That doesn’t just mean things we wanted to improve within the game, but also how we release information to players, and how to ease them into the game as well.

Speaking of easing players into the game, Monster Hunter Wilds features a lot of quality-of-life improvements. For example, the map seemed much more detailed and useful to navigate. Things like tracking quests and monsters, where items are located, and the great sense of verticality to the map. Any other new things that returning players could look forward to?

Yuya Tokuda: You’ve picked up on how much easier it is now to get to monsters, and finding monsters on the map. We received feedback that they were kind of difficult to get to sometimes, especially in maps that are very vertical where you have lots of different geographical elements. And, with the introduction of the Seikret, it’s easier for players to figure out where to go, and where to find monsters on the field.

In terms of things we improved on, one example is that it’s much easier now to select items. We really put an eye to giving more options for players with different kinds of item preferences, because selecting and navigating through items was something that can be difficult in the moment of a hunt. But hopefully, by giving players more options and more customization, we’ve improved this experience for returning players.

The phrase “living breathing ecosystem” was used to describe Monster Hunter World. The maps were large and full of life, you could get monsters tangled in vines, creatures would interact with each other, and so on. How are you expanding on that idea, and make it feel even bigger and more interactive?

Kaname Fujioka: We’re focusing on designing monster herd behaviors that are really tuned to each environment and their ecology. So, we want to have well designed, detailed monster behavior as they move in these larger packs. How the player interacts with them during their hunt is our first little step there toward enhancing the livable, beautiful environment.

I noticed in the demo, the hunter used both the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun. So you’re able to take two weapons into a quest now. Previously a player would have to commit to a weapon, take it into a quest, that’s your weapon. How did this change come about for Wilds?

Yuya Tokuda:  One of the big things about Wilds is that the environments themselves are so much more dynamic and adaptable. Things are changing so often, and even the monsters that are available to hunt can change moment to moment. It was important for us to give players the ability to adapt to that, and switch their own kind of playstyles. So they can carry different weapons, or the same weapons but with different elements for those kinds of situations. We’re really designing the game around allowing players to adapt to the environment.

Focus Mode and wounds are new for Wilds. Can you talk a bit about how these work, and how / when a player might want to engage with these systems?

Yuya Tokuda: So, you don’t need to be in Focus Mode to create wounds. Attacking the monster naturally causes damage or wounds to happen. As long as you’re attacking the wounds, you’ll be doing more damage to the monster.

Entering Focus Mode does highlight monster wounds so you can target them a lot easier, and there are special attacks you can perform in Focus Mode that do more damage to wounds. But, Focus Mode isn’t really just for targeting wounds.

A cursor that appears on the screen allows you to aim your attacks and also to aim your other moves like guarding and blocking attacks. The real merit of Focus Mode is to help players in their positioning and their distancing from monsters, so that even players who are maybe not as experienced with action games, or games similar to Monster Hunter, have an easier time honing in their attacks.

To wrap, if you could say anything to Monster Hunter World players who were really into it, but maybe they fell off years ago and they’re curious about Wilds, what would that be?

Ryozo Tsujimoto: We’re really just trying to make an amazing game for everyone. We hope Wilds is going to be the experience that tops anything before in the Monster Hunter series, and really gaming in general.

Yuya Tokuda: For players that didn’t gel with the action [of World], we’re planning a really thorough support system for players to learn about the game and play it from start to finish. We’re hoping that allows players to experience the best that Wilds has to offer.

The hunt begins when Monster Hunter Wilds comes to PS5 next year.

Fudžioka vysvětlil: „Je to vlastnost lovu, ale slouží k takovému tomu, aby měla dramatický prvek a zvýšila ponoření hráče do okamžiku lovu.

Monster Hunter Wilds supports cross-play, but Capcom still insists cross-save 'not possible'

Following Monster Hunter Wilds' latest trailer reveal during Summer Game Fest, Capcom has been sharing more on what players can expect from the latest game in its hugely popular creature-battling series - confirming cross-play is in for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, while still insisting cross-save is 'not possible'.

That information comes via a new update on the Monster Hunter website, which explains players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam will all be able to match with - and become friends with - each other, regardless of platform. However, cross-play can be disabled if players prefer.

The news is considerably less positive for anyone hoping Capcom might finally pull its finger out and implement cross-save for Monster Hunter this time around. The publisher confirms save data - including the likes of game progress and paid DLC - will be managed separately on each platform. As such, it insists it will "not be possible" to share save data across platforms.

Before we get started though - no, there was no new GTA 6 trailer. Sorry, nothing I can do about that. With that out of the way, let's take a look at what did make an appearance.

Summer Game Fest began with Lego Horizon Adventures showing off how you can play as Aloy from the Horizon series and transform the robotic wastelands into a Lego paradise. It will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5 and even Nintendo Switch during "holiday" 2024.

Don't they roll around quickly? It's Summer Games Fest time again! Yes that's right: 10 hours of Geoff Keighley showing us every gaming trailer he can get his hands on. It takes place tonight, 7th June, at 10pm UK time, and you can both watch it and read our blow-by-blow account live, right here on this page.

Clarification: I was being silly when I said it would last 10 hours. It will last two.

As for what to expect, Keighley has tempered expectations by saying this year's show will focus more on updates to existing games rather than new releases, which isn't terribly exciting. But Capcom will be there to show Monster Hunter Wilds, we'll probably get a look at Star Wars Outlaws, and Remedy's Sam Lake seems to be there so there's a suggestion of something for Alan Wake 2. Five Nights at Freddie's company Blumhouse has got something new to show, Bandai Namco's action game Unknown 9 looks like it's going to be there, and the creator of Gravity Rush and Silent Hill is going to premiere his new game Slitterhead. I'm not sure about that name, Toyama-san.

PlayStation fans! We’re back again with another exciting look at Monster Hunter Wilds, coming to PlayStation 5 in 2025. In the trailer just revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024, we’re sharing how we’ve evolved the hunting experience to seamlessly connect the tense storyline and gameplay, resulting in the most immersive and cinematic hunting experience in the series.

If you haven’t yet, take a look at our latest trailer below, which we’re calling “The Hunter’s Journey.” It shares a peek at an intense narrative-driven hunt through the Windward Plains and introduces brand new monsters making their debut in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Embark on the Hunter’s Journey with a new look at Monster Hunter Wilds

New Doshaguma artwork revealed

Take a look at our newly released artwork! Here we see a hunter encountering a fearsome pack of Doshaguma in the vast Windward Plains, providing a taste of the harsh environments and ferocious monsters you’ll be confronted with in the world of Monster Hunter Wilds.

A new Leviathan slithers into Monster Hunter Wilds

Balahara
Leviathan

The Balahara, a leviathan-type monster found in the Windward Plains, makes its debut in Monster Hunter Wilds.

This leviathan uses its serpentine body to slither through the normally impassible jagged landscape with ease. The Balahara secretes a slick substance that allows it to greet any creature unfortunate enough to wander into its territory with a salvo slung from afar.

Ever the cunning predator, the Balahara will often burrow into the smooth desert sand and coil itself in wait, using its flexible body to create a pit of quicksand that will ensnare its prey.

Monstrous Turf Wars

The Forbidden Lands are an unforgiving region–Sparse in resources and plentiful in those competing for them. Violent clashes over territory are an everyday occurrence in the desert and not just between the titans that inhabit it.

In the released footage, a pack of Balahara can be seen attacking a large Doshaguma, and we can see a Chatacabra under attack from a group of small monsters. Yes, even small monsters can be observed defending themselves against larger predators if they feel threatened. Knowledge of this type of behavior can be used to your advantage. Be sure to keep a keen eye on your surroundings so you can act appropriately when the time comes.

Immersive, seamless connection between story and gameplay

The development team is working to craft a story unlike anything seen before in the Monster Hunter series, blending a compelling and intriguing narrative with interesting characters to meet during your journey.

Here’s a glimpse of the story told through a few cutscenes and gameplay segments.

You’ll enter the role of a hunter appointed to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission.

Members of the research commission, including the mysterious boy Nata, embark on an expedition into the Forbidden Lands.

Upon entering the Windward Plains, the research commission encounters a pack of Balahara that call the sandy soil of the Windward Plains home.

In the next shot, we see the Hunter joining up with an unknown man under attack from the Balahara.

As the Balahara attack, we see the action seamlessly flow from cutscenes to gameplay.

Hunters can brandish their weapons while mounted atop their Seikret to deter an approaching pack of predators, or the Seikret can be directed to avoid monsters automatically.

A hunter swallowed by quicksand.

The Balahara tracks down the hunter and the battle begins.

A mysterious large monster approaches…

The Windward Plains is a locale that showcases a rich and vibrant ecosystem full of monsters, contrasted by the harshness of nature. During your adventures, you’ll discover the mysteries of this land and the monsters that inhabit it.

Amongst these harsh conditions, you’ll need to be wary of the Sandtide, a violent sandstorm rife with lightning. Also in the trailer, there was a scene where a large mysterious monster was attacking a Doshaguma with lightning.

Monster Hunter Wilds promises to deliver the most cinematic and immersive story in the series’s history, where story and gameplay are seamlessly connected. We’ll have plenty more to share with you in the future, so we hope you stay tuned ahead of the game’s launch on PS5 in 2025.

Crossplay CONFIRMED!

As announced at Summer Game Fest, crossplay is coming to Monster Hunter Wilds!

When is the Monster Hunter Wilds release date? With the recent resurgence of Monster Hunter World and Rise in late 2023, there's naturally a bit of a buzz regarding the first sixth-generation Monster Hunter. The first trailer had a hunter riding his bird friend as they desperately tried to escape a horde of armored beasts like Simba weaving between the stampeding wildebeest in The Lion King.

However, we recently got to see a significant amount of Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay, as well as some brand-new monsters and all the characters you meet on the expedition. We had already seen some big changes to the RPG game series, not least of which is the sheer level of mobility the mount offers, but some newly revealed mechanics excite us greatly. With the power offered by new-generation consoles, perhaps this will be the first in the series to embrace a fully open-world game concept. We can all but estimate here, but here is everything we currently know about the Monster Hunter Wilds release date and all the game features shown off so far.

Greetings, PlayStation fans! Today during State of Play, we revealed some exciting new information for Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s been some time since we first announced the game last December, so the team is thrilled to show off our newest trailer to everyone. It’s still a small taste of things to come, but we hope you can pick up on one of the game’s main themes: “the living world.” Beyond the new trailer itself, we’d also like to introduce some of the monsters, characters, and even share some info about the hunter’s new mount.

Monster Hunter Wilds: new gameplay details from today’s State of Play

Breathtaking Immersion

This image shows hunter astride their mount as they race past a herd of monsters. This image shows an oasis in the middle of sandy dunes.

Every locale, monster, and person acts with their own thoughts and motivations, combining dynamically to bring an immersive and constantly changing Monster Hunter ecosystem to life.

This image shows two characters astride their mounts on a grassy field, observing a monster herd nearby.

When you encounter a large monster while out exploring a locale, you’ll be able to begin that quest seamlessly, allowing for deeper immersion. Your hunter will also engage other characters in fully voiced conversations, deepening your connection with the many people you’ll meet along the way.

Changing Environments

This image shows a night time scene of a herd of monsters resting.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, locales are dense, deep, and three-dimensional. Let’s start with the Windward Plains shown in the trailer, which is a vast, untamed land ready to be explored. While exploring this new locale, hunters will discover harsh environments contrasted by abundant landscapes teeming with life, and even extreme weather conditions that transform the locale in unexpected ways.

This image shows a sandy landscape in which herds of monsters roam. This image shows a grassland landscape in which herds of monsters roam.

Windward Plains

A vast sand plain and the first locale that the investigation team will explore after setting foot into the Forbidden Lands. The locale consists of a variety of unique areas made up of sandy deserts, swaying grasslands, and twisting rock formations.

This image is a wide shot of numerous dunes on which monsters roam.

This is just one such region that awaits you, and rest assured that a world full of countless surprises and discoveries to be made awaits.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, environments will change drastically. Monsters and organisms will change and adapt according to changes in the environment, resulting in a world that feels truly alive.

A Believable Ecosystem of Monsters

A crouched hunter watches on as monsters attack each other.

Monsters act independently to survive in these harsh environments. In Monster Hunter Wilds, hunters can expect to immerse themselves in a vibrant ecosystem of monsters living in nature, including large-scale groups of monsters that move in herds and packs and interact with one another.

Doshaguma

Fanged Beast

A monster with a tough, strong-looking build. Doshaguma are highly territorial, have a wide habitat range, and can be very aggressive. Large packs of this monster have sometimes been spotted.

This image shows the artwork of a Doshaguma, hunched over on all fours, huge thick mane running up its back. Two large tusks protrude from its mouth. This image shows a hunter and his mount race away from a pack of four Doshaguma.

Chatacabra

Amphibian

This amphibian species uses adhesive saliva to attach ore and other substances to its forelegs to strengthen itself.

This image shows a Chatacabra, hunched over and leaning on its massive forearms, a huge tongue slithering from its mouth. This images shows a hunter faces off against a lone Chatacabra.

Ceratonoth

Herbivore

This image shows a male Ceratonoth flanked by two Ceratonoths. All amble on four legs, but the male has huge dorsal horns that end in three large spikes on its back.

Ceratonoth males protect surrounding females of their species from lightning by catching lightning strikes with the well-developed dorsal horns on their backs and releasing them to the ground. They form large herds with the male Ceratonoth at the center.

Dalthydon

Herbivore

This image shows three, two-legged Dalthydons, two adults flanking a younger one

This herbivorous wyvern changes its habitat depending on the season. When it senses danger, it will sometimes take a defensive posture and fight back with its well-developed head shell.

Seikret, an essential mount for traveling through vast fields

This image shows the player’s mount, the two-legged, feathered Sikret. This image shows a hunter riding their mount, the two-legged, feathered Sikret.

Say hello to your trusty new mount—the Seikret! These small but nimble monsters are ridden by hunters and other members of the Research Commission. Using their strong sense of smell, they can automatically take you to destinations that you specify on your map.

This image shows a hunter and their mount racing through a grassy plain. This image shows a hunter and their mount in mid-air, looking over a plain filled with monster herds

You’ll be able to use certain items and even your slinger while on the move, allowing you to recover your health, sharpen your weapon, or even gather materials all from the safety of your Seikret.

This image shows a hunter and their mount dashing past an enraged herd of Doshaguma. This image is in the same sequence as the previous image, but shows the hunter raising their weapon while astride their mount.

In addition to acting as a rideable mount, the Seikret enables hunters to access and switch to a secondary weapon without returning to base! Use this brand-new ability to adapt quickly to the ever-changing hunts in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Ultimate hunting action

The 14 iconic weapon types make their return in Monster Hunter Wilds. Choose from the Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow.

While series veterans should find themselves right at home, there’s plenty of new actions for each weapon type that will take your hunt to the next level. We shared a small look at a few of these for the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun, and we look forward to sharing more information on all the new actions in the future!

This image shows a hunter clashing directly with one Doshaguma while another two ready for attack behind. This image shows a hunter using a Heavy Bowgun against a herd of charging Doshaguma.

For now, let’s go over a few of the new abilities and systems that will make their debut in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Focus Mode

This image Showa a hunter guarding against a Chatacabra. This image Showa a hunter striking a Chatacabra.

In Focus Mode, hunters will have more precise control over how they guard, aim, and attack in order to target a monster’s weak points for big damage. Focus Mode makes it easier to adjust your distance to the monster and aim your attacks, making the distinctive Monster Hunter hunting action more accessible to a wider variety of players.

Some weapons will also feature distinctive moves that can only be used in this mode.

Hook Slinger

This image shows a hunter using their Hook Slinger to grab a far away item.

A new version of the slinger has been added to the hunter’s standard equipment in Monster Hunter Wilds. Use it to collect items from a distance, even while on the back of a Seikret. Some contextual actions using the slinger can also be activated from a distance.

We can’t wait for you to see how all of these systems come together to make for a truly evolved hunting experience that retains the depth the series is known for, while providing new and exciting ways to hunt.

The next entry to the beloved Monster Hunter series is on its way, continuing the hunt that started from the original. Here's everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds, including a release window, platforms, and more.

When does Monster Hunter Wilds come out?

As of now, Monster Hunter Wilds does not have a set release date, but it is slated for a 2025 launch. Some rumors have been floating around regarding an early 2025 debut, but these should be taken with a grain of salt. Hopefully, Capcom will make an announcement soon to give us a better time frame.

What platforms will Monster Hunter Wilds be on?

Monster Hunter Wilds will be available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It's currently available for wishlist via the PlayStation Store and Steam. The Xbox version has yet to make its own store page, so we'll need to wait for this specific platform.

As for Switch, Monster Hunter Wilds isn't currently planned for it. Monster Hunter Rise did appear on Switch, but it currently looks like PC and beefier consoles are where Wilds is staying for now.

Monster Hunter Wilds trailers

The Game Awards 2023 revealed the very first trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. It gave us a short sneak peek of various monsters and the formidable Forbidden Lands.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyoBA0aCRNk&t=1s

We also see the playable character riding the new mount, Seikret. Not only is this creature used for traveling, but it can be an excellent asset for hunts. You can utilize it to stash away multiple gear, allowing you to heal and equip several weapons.

The PlayStation State of Play 2024 also gave us a first look into gameplay. It focuses more on the game's combat side, presenting several brutal showdowns.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u6VmVmhh-k

The trailer shows creatures like the Doshaguma, a fanged beast that lingers in the Windward Plains. We also get a glimpse of the reptilian-like Chatacabra, which uses its saliva to power up its attacks.

Will Monster Hunter Wilds be open world?

Since there is little information about Monster Hunter Wilds' gameplay, it needs to be clarified whether the game will be open-world or not. However, the trailer may hint at this feature, mainly because it includes changing environments.

The Monster Hunter Wilds page mentions two hunting locales: a formidable location with challenging monsters and a much more peaceful area. Creatures also have designated ecosystems, where you'll primarily start in the Windward Plains.

Due to these unique environmental attributes, an open-world feature may pan out for Monster Hunter Wilds. We'll have to wait and see what Capcom confirms.

Monster Hunter series has sold over 100m copies as anticipation grows for Monster Hunter Wilds

14. Květen 2024 v 12:08

Capcom's Monster Hunter series has now sold over 100m copies.

Monster Hunter: World, released in 2018, is the main driver of this, with sales now totalling over 25m units globally. The game has consecutively sold over 1m units each year since release and is Capcom's highest selling game ever.

The company attributes this new series high to the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds at last year's The Game Awards.
