Summer Game Fest 2026 everything announced for PC

And with that the Summer Game Fest is over. At least, the official Geoff Keighley showcase - there are still many more streams over the weekend. I wouldn't say there were many surprises, but it was excellent to get a first look at games like Alien Isolation 2, Fumito Ueda's genAtlas, and Guild Wars 3.

Rayman Legends was a timeless 2D platformer with beautiful art, but I'll grudgingly admit that its remake is an improvement

In my memory, Rayman Legends is a timeless classic. Released in 2013, it arrived at a moment when Ubisoft were becoming best known for po-faced games like Assassin's Creed and innumerable Tom Clancy spinoffs, yet Rayman Legends was a gorgeous 2D platformer brimming over with silliness and slapstick that showed off the publisher's creative talents and uniquely French humour.

So the news that Ubisoft is remaking it as Rayman Legends Retold, dropping its 2D art for 3D animation was not well received in the Benson household, I can tell you.

Silver Pines is a rotoscoped side-scrolling survival horror game that splices Silent Hill with Flashback, and it's out on October 8th

Set in a town that's equal parts Silent Hill and Twin Peaks, Silver Pines puts you into the gumshoes of private investigator Red Walker as he tracks down missing musician Eddie Velvet. The investigation hits a slight hiccup when ravenous monsters that want to eat your flesh down to the bones start to impede your enquiries.

We've known about the sidescrolling metroidvania for a while, but it's now got a Steam demo you can play and a release date you can hunger for. October 8th, the creepiest 8th day of the month in the year.

Tekken 8 game director bids goodbye to Bandai Namco following series boss Katsuhiro Harada's exit last year, but doesn't do an hour-long DJ mix

Tekken 8 game director Kohei Ikeda has left Bandai Namco, kicking his way through an exit door that had long-time series producer and general advocate for the virtual graps Katsuhiro Harada pass through it late last year. Harada's since set up a new studio, dubbed VS Studio, under Fatal Fury publishers SNK. All Ikeda's said about his future plans so far is that he'll "continue taking on new challenges as a game developer".

"It felt like we had needed couples therapy": Dishonored devs Arkane making Thief or Blade Runner games sounds ace, but might have sparked a creative director scrap

Dishonored co-directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith seem like good mates. In a newly published YouTube let's play of their creation, they sit side by side, both dressed in black t-shirts like a married couple who've gone to great pains to coordinate their threads. Would that still be the case if their efforts to make Thief 4 and a Blade Runner game respectively hadn't ended up being mashed together to form 2012's sneaky holiday to Dunwall? Perhaps not, given Smith said it felt as though the pair needed couples therapy by the time they wrapped up a game which wasn't based on a single established work one director would have loved more than the other.

Ubisoft cut staff at Splinter Cell devs Ubisoft Toronto, as part of their push to save €200 million

Ubisoft are laying off around 40 people at Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind the forthcoming remake of the original Splinter Cell. That’s approximately eight percent of the studio headcount. It’s all in the service of Ubisoft’s drive to cut costs after restructuring their operations around a big dollop of Tencent funding, which has elsewhere seen Ubisoft propose to lay off up to 200 people in Paris, and chop fixed costs by €200 million over the next two years.

Slay the Spire 2 locks in its early March early access release date, and will deliver a four player co-op mode

You don't have to wait too much longer to murder the steeple for a second time, with Slay The Spire 2's early access release now set in stone. Following the delay which pushed it back to this previously secret Thursday, it'll arrive on March 5th, 2026.

Cyberpunk platformer Replaced catches another delay for "final tweaks" based on demo feedback

Replaced, the long-in-development dystopian platformer from Sad Cat Studios, has had its release pushed back a little further. The studio have taken on feedback from the demo they recently released on Steam - that's the one which kept surnaming me - and reckon a few more weeks of acting on it are in order to get the game ready to go.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown's survival RPG retelling inspires many emotions, but mostly makes me feel old

Back when Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown was announced, we knocked it for offering zappy muzak in place of the TV show’s official theme. Gamexcite and Daedalic have added the theme, now, and I sort of wish they hadn’t. “Help!” I screeched to my bedroom walls, as the rousingly sorrowful opening bars wafted from the speakers like nitrous oxide. “A videogame is making me feel something! It is making me feel like 31 years have passed, and I can still remember Neelix getting drunk on water. I still remember the Doctor’s first words. I still remember blowing up the Caretaker Array rather than using it to insta-warp home.”

Untitled John Wick Game is a gun fu Baba Yaga brawler, and a weird cousin to Untitled Goose Game until proven otherwise

A goose with your skillset must be able to honk freely, unconstricted. They must be versatile, capable, adaptable. They must be grounded, stable, constant. I believe you are ready, goose. Honk.

That isn't quite what Keanu Reeves' talkative tailor says in the reveal trailer for Space Marine 2 devs Saber's Untitled John Wick Game, but it's what I heard. The stubbled and suited hitman's latest journey into videogamedom is touted as an uber-faithful putting of Wick's cinematic martial arts brawling and gunfighting into your hands, but until Saber prove otherwise, I'm treating it as a spiritual twin to House House's Untitled Goose Game.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse sees Dead Cells' devs bring back vampire whippage, and Konami say it's just the start of a revival

Sharpen your fangs and chuck out all of the garlic bread in your house, Castlevania's back with a new game co-developed by the folks who made roguelike-Metroidvania Dead Cells. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is the name of this fresh bout of vampire whippage set in medieval Paris, which publishers Konami have teased is just the first of many Castlevania things they have coming as the series turns 40.

Cyberpunk platformer Replaced has a demo out, and it's wonderfully atmospheric when you're not plummeting a short distance

Warren! Warren! Warren!

ARRGGHHH! WHAAAA! HUHHHH! Replaced, the long-in-development dystopian platformer from Sad Cat Studios, keeps shouting my last name at me. It might because the game's main character, a jacketed gap jumper and baddie shooter, is called Warren. It might also because I did plenty of falling and accidentally got shot by a robo-sniper in Replaced's demo, which is now live ahead of the full thing's release next month.

Come shout down dystopia in the demo for Amanita's fancy cardboard mind control puzzler Phonopolis

Czech indie developers Amanita Design – creators of Samorost, Creaks and Machinarium, among other marvels – have released a demo for Phonopolis, their 3D cardboard adventure about a young man called Felix who is trying to save a city brainwashed by massive loudspeakers. Protected by his headphones, Felix is on a mission to stop the authoritarian Leader from issuing the Absolute Tone, which will “strip every citizen of their humanity forever”. Seems like a thing to avoid!

Pretty platformer sequel Planet of Lana II gets a pretty good Steam demo tomorrow, ahead of its surprise March release

Planet of Lana II, Wishfully’s followup to their tremendous puzzle-platformer original, punched our news mouths with a double hit of announcements last week. First, it’s got a release date of March 5th 2026, a mere three weeks from now, and second, there’s a Steam demo coming even sooner, on February 11th. An embargo lift means I’m now at liberty to share my thoughts on said demo, and can report that it’s exactly the same as the demo given to press last year, and as such, you can already read what I said about it here and here. Still, eh? Release date, eh?

The Dark Rites of Arkham review - pure Lovecraftian point and click fan service

Cthulhu games are a dime a dozen these days, with everything from JRPG parodies to well-meaning but flawed efforts that bear the official Call of Cthulhu license. But there aren't many point and click adventures showcasing H.P. Lovecraft's sanity-twisting mythos. Two very dated Infogrames efforts in the early 90s come to mind, but if you haven't played 1993's Shadow of the Comet and 1995's Prisoner of Ice, you're not missing much.

The Dark Rites of Arkham, by indie developer Postmodern Adventures, rectifies this with a well-rounded effort filled with odes to all of Lovecraft's best stories. It has the quality of a Call of Cthulhu tabletop campaign assembled by a well-read fan.

Riot reportedly lay off around 80 devs on League Of Legends spin-off fighter 2XKO less than a month after launch

2XKO, Riot's League of Legends fighting spin-off, is having its development team significantly cut back not long after release. Game Developer report a Riot spokesperson as stating the publishers have put plans in motion to lay off around 80 developers on the game, about half of the global team who've been working on it, with the potential for some of the affected workers to land in new posts at Riot.

Fortnite's latest collab with an adult animated series that's somehow still going is none other than South Park

You know what South Park feels like to me? It feels like randomly waking up in the middle of the night, looking around your bedroom as you think "cripes, it's still not morning yet?" A feeling of waiting for the inevitable, the end, or the beginning. Not so much the contents of the show, none of that needs all that much thought, more so its very existence, which is now apparently transplanting itself into Fortnite.

The RPS Selection Box: Jeremy's bonus games of the year 2025

In the grand spirit of Christmas, I want everyone to know that for this year's RPS Advent Calendar, I nominated a bunch of games about Japanese assassins and at least one point and click thriller featuring a netherworld of torture devices. Some of those assassins appeared on the final calendar, but not all, and the point and click didn't make the cut.
