You can now play Avowed as Small Person With Big Magic Stick

Avowed now has a bunch more possibilities when it comes to one of the most important fantasy RPG build archetypes, thanks to the deployment of its anniversary update. Three new character races are on offer alongside the established humans and elves, and you can arm them with a quarterstaff which caters to mages who think puny wands and books aren't quite showy enough.

As you might recall, some of the stuff included in this anniversary update was orignally supposed to arrive in Avowed late last year, but ended up being delayed by Obsidian.

"Step into the shoes of NPC man" with this Fallout New Vegas mod that lets you get faction cronies to do your dirty work

Rubbing shoulders with factions is a big part of the Fallout: New Vegas charm, even if it often devolves into you doing a bunch of favours if you don't want to risk ending up on the vilified naughty list for one too many accidental grenade pickpocktings. You do get some nice perks for keeping the likes of the NCR or Legion on side, but a new mod aims to take that to a new level, letting you send faction cronies out on handy odd jobs while you kick your feet up.

RPS verdict: The Fallout TV Show season 2

The second series of Amazon’s Fallout adaptation has now fully emerged from the vault, its eight episodes having been plinked out gradually, rather than whipped out in one fell swoop. Naturally, one of us has taken in the show how its distributors intended, injecting a stimpak a week in calm and measured fashion. The other waited until all the episodes were out, and then injected them all at once like an unhinged adventurer blowing through half their chem stash in a mid-fight panic. I’ll let you try to work out which is which, here’s our verdict.

Major spoilers for season 2 of the Fallout TV Show lie ahead.

Avowed was overlooked - it's a double-A blast of gaming sunshine

I feel for Avowed. It's a bit like an athlete that goes to an Olympics and makes it to a final but doesn't place. It's a great achievement, a success by many people's standards, but history doesn't care.

The 50 best games of 2025, ranked

It's been another strange, difficult, and yet somehow also brilliant year for video games in 2025. Triple-A releases have been sparse again, compared to the boom times of old, with a great big GTA 6-shaped hole left in the final few months of the year. And yet once again, every gap left by the established order has been filled twice over with something brilliantly new.

RPGs Avowed and Towerborne are the next Xbox games headed to PS5

Microsoft has confirmed that a pair of RPGs will be the next Xbox games to release on the PS5, and both of them will be out on the platform in February 2026. Obsidian Entertainment‘s Avowed will launch on PS5 first, followed by Stoic’s Towerborne.

RPGs Avowed and Towerborne are the next Xbox games headed to PS5

Action RPG Avowed will be available on PS5 on February 17, along with its Anniversary Update. The update will add New Game Plus, Photo Mode, new character appearance, new weapon, new character options, and more.

“You are the envoy of Aedyr, a distant land, sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague throughout the Living Lands — an island full of mysteries and secrets, danger and adventure, and choices and consequences, and untamed wilderness,” reads an official overview. “Can you save this unknown frontier and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them asunder?”

Stoic’s Towerborne is a side-scrolling action RPG that’s currently in early access. The full game will launch on PS5 on February 26.

“Rise again as an Ace, an immortal warrior reborn to defend the Belfry against the darkness beyond its walls,” a description reads. “Journey across a crumbling world, uncover the mystery of the fallen City of Numbers, and push back the corruption threatening humanity’s survival.”

Fortnite's latest collab with an adult animated series that's somehow still going is none other than South Park

You know what South Park feels like to me? It feels like randomly waking up in the middle of the night, looking around your bedroom as you think "cripes, it's still not morning yet?" A feeling of waiting for the inevitable, the end, or the beginning. Not so much the contents of the show, none of that needs all that much thought, more so its very existence, which is now apparently transplanting itself into Fortnite.

Fallout season 2 is fuelling another Steam player bump, as folks once again remember they like Fallout

While it hasn't taken as commanding a stranglehold over the world's collective consciousness as its debut series did, the second helping of Amazon's Fallout TV show is succeeding in helping drive a number of extra Steam players back to the wasteland. That said, a number of said wastelands being heavily discounted as part of the platform's recently concluded winter sale likely hasn't hindered those efforts.

Avowed's new game plus, fresh kind of weapon and photo mode are now coming in a beefy anniversary update

Avowed won't be getting the final update devs Obsidian had planned for this year. Instead the studio have opted to save putting out the new game plus mode they'd planned for this autumn for a big update to make the RPG's first birthday in February. To make up the extra wait, the anniversary update'll be adding some mystery extra bits alongside the already announced features.

The autumn patch was originally set to be the third update delivered to the nature-rific blunderbuss adventure this year. The last one to arrive was the summer update, which aimed to round out the fighting skills of non-magic users so that wizards weren't having all of the fun.

Fallout season 2 still sounds like it won't commit to a New Vegas ending, but for the love of all that's Housely, I hope it will

Prime Video's Fallout TV series has been followed around by a buzzing swarm of canon chatter hornets since the moment its first series emerged from the vault. Such a thing's natural and healthy - people care enough about the games to have thoughts about how this adaptation portrays the world in which they take place. It goes double when when you head to locations which have played host to entries especially beloved for how much say they let the player have in how their stories play out.

Enter Fallout season two, debuting next month and set in (clears throat) NEW VEGAS. Will it set one of Fallout: NEW VEGAS's endings in stone as the canon option?

Pre-release builds of Fallout: New Vegas recently unearthed at a shop in Utah contain rare files which could be "incredibly useful" to expanding what modders can do with the RPG. Well, at least they doe in the estimation of the folks who claim to have found them, a group of preservationists whose current online presence only looks to have popped up last month.

Avowed Photo mode and New Game Plus delayed, as Obsidian makes the update something bigger

Obsidian Entertainment, one of gaming's busiest developers, has announced a delay for this year's remaining Avowed update. This was to include a Photo mode and New Game Plus mode, among other things, and it will now be held back - as well as enlarged - for the game's anniversary on 18th February 2026.

Fallout: Long 15, a huge NCR-themed New Vegas mod, could end up being this December's coolest Fallout thing

With season two of the Fallout TV Show and a Fallout 76 expansion going all-in on Goggins, December's not short of Fallout things. Yet, on the day that sees Fallout 4 be re-released in proabable mod-messing up fashion, I'm sitting here looking at a different Fallout thing and thinkling it might be the one of the four I'm most interested in checking out. It's a beefy New Vegas expansion mod called Fallout: Long 15 and it's set to release on December 12th.
